David and Rachel discuss the eccentric illusionist duo Siegfried & Roy and the abrupt end to their longstanding Las Vegas residency.
On this episode of the world famous Sofa King Podcast, we talk about the magical kings of Las Vegas, Siegfried and Roy. Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Horn were a magician and animal handler who moved from crappy cruise ships to Sinatra's Vegas and then dominated the town for over thirty years with their insane, extravagant illusions. They were known for their magical pets, the legion of white tigers and lions that they raised, trained, lived with, and included in their magic. This duo were at times romantic partners, at times business partners, and always—somehow—friends with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Their empire came to an end, however, when a tiger named Manticore attacked Roy on stage one night. How much damage did the attack do? What did the main animal trainer say? What was their reputation in the magician community? What happened to the tiger? Listen, laugh, learn. Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Horn rose to international stardom while performing with their many jungle cats, The duo then had their live career immediately ended when a tiger named Montecore unexpectedly attacked Roy on stage, nearly killing him.
On October 3, 2003, a horrified audience looked on as Roy Horn, one-half of the famous German magician duo Siegried & Roy, was bit by a 400-pound white tiger named “Mantecore” and dragged offstage. After many years in residency at the Mirage Las Vegas and more than 30,000 performances over their career featuring exotic animals, one of the big cats finally turned on their handlers. On May 8th 2020, the entertainment world was rocked by the news that legendary Las Vegas illusionist Roy Horn had become a victim to the coronavirus pandemic. As one half of Siegfried and Roy, he was the animal-tamer who helped re-invent the magic act as multi-million-dollar spectacle. It was during a traumatic childhood in post-war Germany that Roy developed a unique ability to communicate with animals. In partnership with budding magician Siegfried, he took his talent to the stage – and the pair developed a live act that starred cheetahs, lions and tigers. They went from touring the clubs of Europe - to scoring their own headline residency as the hottest act in Vegas. They performed over 30,000 shows, becoming one of the most successful live acts of all time – and the official ‘Magicians of the Century'. But in 2003 tragedy struck – when Roy was mauled onstage and almost killed by one of his tigers. He was left permanently paralysed – but his strength to survive and recover from the incident was heralded as close to miraculous. Then, at the age of 75, he died from complications due to coronavirus. It's a highly contagious disease, but has a low mortality rate – and 94 per cent of those who die have at least one other pre-existing health condition. So what made Roy's infection turn fatal? World renowned forensic pathologist, Dr. Michael Hunter needs to analyze every detail in the limited available information to piece together what else was going on in his body to find the answers.

Había llevado a cabo 5.750 representaciones.
This week Erika covers the Spahalski Brothers. Robert and Stephen were twins and grew up in Elmira, New York. What they say about the TWIN bond is true when it came to these two. They knew where the other one was at all times, they knew what they were doing and they were both gifted gymnasts and had the chance to go far with their skills. Unfortunately, they also had more similarities that sadly weren't so great. They were both gifted gymnasts and had the chance to go far with their skills. Instead they both chose a life of crime. They would both become murderers, they would kill at different times in their lives, but they would also end up serving time together. Im Januar ist Siegfried Fischbacher gestorben. Letztes Jahr starb Roy Horn an Covid-19. Auftritt in Las Vegas.

On May 8th, 2020, Roy Horn, one-half of the famous Las Vegas entertainment act, Siegfried & Roy, died from complications of COVID-19 at the age of 75. For the past 17 years, Horn had been suffering from health issues related to a tiger attack that severed his spine and likely caused a stroke. While initially responding well to treatment for COVID-19, Roy sadly passed a little over a week after his diagnosis. Siegfried and Roy were already on my list for future episodes, but with Roy's surprise passing, I thought I would expedite their story. One of the reasons why I wanted to explore their relationship is because I realized I knew very little about them and I had the suspicion that their story was more interesting than I assumed. I was a right. Many people wonder if Siegfried and Roy were once romantically involved. The answer is…you'll just have to listen to the podcast.

FANS: He was Robbie Freeling in Poltergeist (1982) and Poltergeist II: The Other Side (1986) and few cult films get bigger than this! Yes, the great Oliver Robins joins us to discuss his biggest fears--cue lots of bees, trees and clown talk--the alleged Poltergeist "curse," and working with Sonny Bono in Airplane II: The Sequel (1982). Then we get the exciting scoop about the new horror/black comedy that Oliver wrote, directed and stars in: Celebrity Crush (2019). It hits VOD this month, and you won't want to miss it! FILMS: We get so deep into Poltergeist (1982) that we almost cross over to the other side. This review is NOT clean. Or is it? And will Oliver use his film school background to assign it an unbiased rating on the Cult Filmometer, or will he let his "Freeling feelings" take hold? Is this episode a blessing or a curse? Listen and decide. FINDS: Development news, Hamilton on Disney+, Together Apart with Josh Gad goes Back to the Future, the new docuseries Prop Culture is right up our alley, and we lost Jerry Stiller, Little Richard and Roy Horn. And the not-so-subtle shade from one of Jon and Kate Gosselin's kids! But there's more than just Mom news this week, of course. Tyra Banks is apologizing for past problematic ANTM moments, and in between revisiting those memories and talking college cheating scandal updates we’re picking sides, of course! We're firmly #TeamTeigen when chef Alison Roman speaks so rudely of our Cravings queen. We're also still mourning the loss of the late kings Jerry Stiller, Roy Horn and Little Richard. Plus, we dive into our chat with RHOBH's Kyle Richards, asking about her calling Denise Richards "ragamuffin" and who she believes, Brandi Glanville or Denise, when it comes to the ladies' juicy upcoming did they or didn’t they storyline. So join Us Weekly’s Brody Brown and a crew of the mag’s very opinionated staff to hear about this and more from the biggest celeb news stories of the week!
