We skip the first Wednesday of the month to give me time to pay the games for RTG, but fortunately we have a backlog of about 1,000 podcasts on Patreon to draw from to fill in the gaps. And this week, we have a big one for you. Back in 2023, Mark McCue joined me to talk about The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. We kept the base review pretty spoiler-free, and then tacked on a spoiler cast at the end to talk about the finale of the game and some other stuff. Mark loves Zelda, I know most of you love Zelda, and I hope you love this podcast. Let's go! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
In our third Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom episode we delve deeper into the plot of the game and take a look at all four elemental temples. We also discuss just how much of a good thing is too much. In part 4, we'll be discussing the rest of the game up to and including the ending. In the digital equestrian justice system, the gamers are represented by two separate yet equally important groups: the farmhands that spend time nurturing the majestic beasts; and the game developers that program the horses in the video games that gamers enjoy so much. These are their stories. DUN DUN Oh, wait, this is for a different show. Uh, ignore all this I guess? Call of Duty Black Ops 6 is here! We never thought we'd have a Call of Duty game on this podcast again, but Treyarch and the other teams behind this game outdid themselves. Call of Duty Black Ops 6 is the full package. The campaign is solid, the multiplayer is super addicting and the zombies mode is a blast. Best of all? This is all available on Xbox Game Pass.We also dig into Alan Wake 2's new DLC called The Lakehouse. This one follows a Federal Bureau of Control agent through The Lakehouse. Jason played this game and shares his thoughts of this creepy return to the Alan Wake world. Brett plays Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Bioware returns with a different art style, a more linear world and several gameplay changes that provide a differnet, but fun direction for the game. Is this the best Dragon Age ever? Maybe not. Is this a great game? It definitely is. Despite the sometimes poor script, the gameplay is great, the world is gorgeous and the game plays better than any game in recent years. We also get our hands on Deadlock, the 3rd person MOBA from Valve. This game is incredibly well designed bringing all the best of MOBA's with a true hero shooter twist. We can't wait to get our hands on the full release.Lastly, Austin dove back into Tears of the Kingdom. In this, he highlights the well-designed starting area. Tutorials are varied in our games and sometimes hold your hand too much or are too annoying you want to ignore them. This tutorial does it just right having you discover as you play. You can follow their Kickstarter here when it goes live or wishlist it on Steam.Show Notes:1:14 - Housekeeping2:36 - Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Early Review35:22 - Alan Wake 2 The Lakehouse DLC48:05 - Dragon Age: The Veilguard Early Review1:21:39 - Deadlock: A Fun Twist on the MOBA from Valve1:37:24 - Tears of The Kingdom 1 Year Later: A Masterclass in Starting Zones1:57:46 - Upcoming Video Game Releases Become a part of the conversation! We're back for part two of our Breath of the Wild / Tears of the Kingdom hot takes (and a few Age of Calamity ones in there too!). This week, we're tackling subjects like: was Yunobo the best character across the Wild era games? Do the Divine Beast dungeons offer a more welcoming for new players puzzle experience? Was it disappointing the Pirates in Lurelin were just Moblins? Are Remote Bombs the best rune/ability? Is Colgera seriously the most disappointing boss in the game? Was Calamity Ganon more interesting than Ganondorf? All this and so much more, PLUS our thought on the Nintendo Museum and strange American geography! Come have a blast with us! One of our favorite segments returns this week! We asked for YOUR spiciest hot takes regarding Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, and boy oh boy, you guys delivered, SO MUCH SO that this will be PART 1 of a two part episode! We're reacting to all sorts of takes, including: is Tears a great experience, or just glorified DLC? Is Cece's Mushroom hat better than the Couples Mask? Would Kohga have been a better choice of villain than Ganondorf? Do fighting bosses again in the Depths diminish the impact of fighting them in a dungeon? Speaking of, are the dungeons of Tears and Breath of the Wild better than many traditional dungeons? All this and so much more! If you want to contribute next week, feel free to do so, and we can even get Age of Calamity in on the action! Until next week! Support The Zelda Cast on Patreon! This week, we are building our own open world game! By taking various elements of different games in the genre, each of us put together what we think would be the next big event in video games. Want to build your own? These are the categories! Story (not the exact story, unless you want it to be. It can be a story like or comparable to, share the same structure, or just be the vibes of) Combat System World/map/location Characters/NPCs Side Quest (again doesnt have the be exact, can just be structure or vibes) Collectibles Mini games Traversal Aesthetic/graphics "It" factor. A unique thing about the game that sets it apart from other games in the genre (e.g. nemesis system in Shadow of Mordor, base takedowns like Far Cry, etc.) And if you'd like, you can utilize 1 wildcard pick. This would be pulling from 1 singular game that doesn't fall within the open world genre. So maybe you want the story vibes of something like Super Mario 64, or the music from Persona 5. Something that you think would fit so well it doesn't matter it's not technically an open world. ALSO, we are Twitch Affiliates now, so subscribing to our Twitch channel will really help us out to support the podcast!

It's hard to believe, but it's been one year since the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, so this week, we're reflecting back on the game and talking about how our thoughts or opinions have changed or been cemented now that the dust has settled. We discuss Tears' legacy as a sequel, as a standalone Zelda game, and where it ranks among our favorite Zelda games. Andy and Al both have strong opinions on the game, and they don't necessarily agree either, so get ready for a killer show! All this, PLUS we touch on Nintendo's announcement of the Switch 2 coming this fiscal year, what that means for the rest of 2024 and 2025, and our thoughts and fears surrounding that.
