Alexa please play ‘Who Can I Run To' by Xscape because at this point, the pickings are slim. On today's episode, Dewey kicks it with Dey and Brandi, 2/3 of Take Control Podcast, to discuss the infamous question of who can I run to when it comes to relationships, friendships, and even just life in general. Dey shares that she more impulsive when it comes to seeking advice and just needs to get it out, while Brandi is more of a person who overthinks & sits with herself before calling for help. Dewey argues that you have to know your personnel because most friends who give advice are miserable and bitter. The three also discuss how they give advice, wanting to square up with their friends partners, and who in their family won't ever get the tea. If you to are trying to figure out who you can run to, get into this episode. We actually recorded this some time ago...but with the recent police shooting of another unarmed Black man, I needed a break (This is DB by the way...) so blame me if some of the topics are a little outdated. I felt like the world didn't need another distraction and I was honestly depleted. With that being said, we’d like to dedicate this episode to Jacob Blake. That he recover from his wounds and his attackers receive the justice that many feels he deserves. But listen to today's episode featuring the amazing talented Brandi Hale from the Take Control Podcast. She comes on to drop some gems and keep us straight with the woman's perspective. Also we have a great conversation about are men truly loved if they aren't providing resources. Listen to Brandi over on the Take Control Podcast found wherever you listen to your podcasts!!! Welcome to Episode 140 of the Sheep Dressed Like Wolves Podcast. In this week's show I explore how we find meaning in the world according to Brian Little's definitions of personal projects. In his latest book, Me, Myself, and Us, Professor Brian Little says that we no longer think in terms of nature vs nurture as two sides of a debate. Rather consensus is emerging to say that the key thing to think about is how we nurture our natures. And so "third natures arise out of the personal commitments and core projects that we pursue in our daily lives. Under this new perspective genes influence us as do our circumstances, but we are not hostage to them." Building Our Reality We all build a picture of the world using a set of personal constructs. This is how we make predictable paths through the complexity of the world, for example seeing people through simple filters (male or female, introvert or extrovert, psychopath or normal). These constructs influence the way we interact with the world and once another and may lead to us having skewed or closed-minded views. As Professor Little points out, we can't escape constructs. They are a fact of life, an inevitability of human consciousness. Without them we would be completely overloaded and overwhelmed by information. But we do have a choice as to how we interact with them and how open we are to empathically developing them. Covered in this episode: Examples of constructs we might use to filter the world The negative implications of having two few constructs Why the world is not quite what it seems The reality of broken constructs Why introverts and highly sensitive people need to beaware of the constructs they create around their understanding of these temperaments Over to You Have you ever had one of your personal constructs broken? Either by a change in your own circumstances or by meeting someone who completely changed what you thought to be true. Please leave your response in the comments below. I'd love to hear your stories.
