A Grand Jury has decided that there is no evidence of criminal wrongdoing in the Nolan Wells case, meaning there will not be a state-led investigation into his death. In response, the Wells family and their attorneys have released new evidence, which shows that the Grand Jury’s ruling is nothing short of malpractice. Nolan Wells was the 18-year-old who drowned off the coast of Mississippi while hanging out with his all-white friend group on 4th of July. *Originally aired July 17th, 2026 In this bonus episode of Selective Ignorance, Mandii B is joined by super producer A-King and Jason “Jah” Lee for an entertaining conversation covering concert culture, hip-hop, nostalgia, addiction, celebrity headlines, relationships, and modern social dynamics. The episode kicks off with a debate about "cultural credit" and whether it's ever appropriate to ask artists and industry friends for concert tickets or backstage access [ 01:43 ]. The crew shares insider tips on navigating smaller concert markets and maximizing live music experiences [ 03:26 ], before discussing the tours they're most excited about, including J. Cole's The Fall Off Tour, Usher, Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, Vince Staples, and even unexpected performances at venues like SeaWorld [ 06:01 ][ 08:33 ]. From there, they examine how nostalgia continues to fuel the booming live music economy, with legacy artists drawing massive crowds decades into their careers [ 10:18 ], before reflecting on T.I.'s career resurgence, retirement conversations, and evolving ambitions [ 11:49 ]. A brief detour into stand-up comedy and future creative plans keeps the conversation moving [ 14:37 ], before the crew turns its attention to Future's latest album and the current state of Atlanta hip-hop, debating whether the city's sound is entering a new era of "reconstruction" [ 16:05 ]. The discussion then shifts toward addiction, public perception, and substance use, beginning with reflections on methamphetamine, the struggles of former Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum, and the realities of addiction [ 19:39 ]. The hosts share candid personal stories about encounters with cocaine and nightlife culture [21:40 ], before discussing changing attitudes toward marijuana, mushrooms, and recreational drug use [ 25:29 ]. A humorous internet rabbit hole involving podcasters and alleged cocaine use [ 26:18 ] quickly gives way to a more serious conversation after reacting to Ray J's viral comments about sexually transmitted diseases [ 28:14 ]. The crew separates fact from fiction by discussing sexual health, misinformation, and the dangers of spreading inaccurate medical claims online [ 31:21 ], while also examining the public conversation surrounding Princess Love, accountability, and relationship dynamics [ 32:25 ]. Closing out the episode, Mandii, A-King, and Jah explore the emotional complexities of "savior" mentalities in relationships, discussing why some people feel compelled to rescue partners at the expense of their own well-being [34:50 ]. They debate male-centered relationships, unrealistic expectations shaped by pop culture and Disney princess narratives [ 36:19 ][ 37:28 ], before turning to lighter conversations about declining wedding and baby shower invitations, changing social obligations, and evolving friendships in adulthood [ 43:12 ]. The crew also weighs in on internet debates surrounding fashion, masculinity, and bedazzled men's clothing [ 48:25 ], before wrapping up with a playful discussion about Mandii's New York roots versus her growing Florida identity [ 51:03 ]. The episode concludes with final thoughts, upcoming announcements, and the team's signature sign-off [ 56:38 ], delivering another candid, hilarious, and insightful bonus conversation that effortlessly blends music, culture, current events, and everyday life. Chris Brown was honored with a congressional record at a concert in Dallas by Rep Jasmine Crockett and Texas State Rep Venton Jones. It has become a debacle after outraged victims of domestic abuse spoke out against Mr. Brown, who infamously beat Rihanna and other romantic partners. 9/11’s 25th anniversary should be about the victims, their families, and reflecting on an event that altered the course of our history. Of course, Trump is using the anniversary to aggrandize himself, and Republicans–especially former NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani–are furious at NYC’s current mayor Mamdani for attending the 9/11 memorial because Mamdani is muslim. Apparently, we’re The Ops for supporting bipartisan politics... On last week’s show, NLP defended House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries after he met with Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner. As a leader, you have to talk to the other side. Many of y’all were calling NLP “bought and sold,” “AIPAC,” etc., and others had more serious critiques. We’ll respond to all. Welcome to another in our Backstage episode of Roots Music Rambler. These are short interviews Frank and Falls are able to grab backstage (or just somewhere in person rather than on our virtual, longer-form interview episodes) and catch up briefly. This week, Falls caught up with his fellow Pikeville, Ky., product Brandon Scott Coleman, a multi-genre virtuoso guitarist who plays said instrument for the new Cincinnati-based folk rock band Barnweaver. They released their self-titled debut album this summer and it is fantastic. Coleman told us the story of how the band started in a chance meeting between singer/guitarist Kyle Swensen and bass player Bennet Miller in a Kroger. When they brought Coleman and drummer Andrew Gillum in to be session players for what was to be an album for the duo, the chemistry clicked and they knew instantly this was a four-piece band instead. The “guitar virtuoso” label isn't just a hyperbole, either. Coleman regularly plays with Kentucky-based cellist Ben Sollee, has toured with Grammy-award winner Dan Pugach, plays in his own jazz fusion trio, and has worked as a producer, arranger, music publishing house editor and free-lance musician for many years. Two Pikeville boys talking on a podcast will inevitably bring up some inside-Pike County references, so prepare yourself for that. (Do you know how to pronounce “Marrowbone,” properly?) But you'll enjoy getting to know Brandon and Barnweaver today. Barnweaver anchors their online presence on Bandcamp for now. You can also find them on Spotify, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube. Falls also pulls back the curtain to reveal that Roots Music Rambler is building a Patreon community for our biggest and best fans which will feature exclusive content. An ad-free show feed, outtakes, more frequent commentary from Frank and Falls (separately and together) on topics of the day, album reviews, articles and more. You will be able join the community for free to see what content is available in the exclusive feed, then upgrade to a paid subscription to access that content. We'll be sure to make it cheap, but chock full of value. That's coming soon, so keep your eyes open on our social channels, our website at rootsmusicrambler.com or just keep listening and we'll update you when the Patreon community is ready to join! Send us Fan MailWe are well into the era of artificial intelligence and TikTok, and both are having dramatic impacts on our lives. Trial practice, and criminal defense practice, are not immune from that influence, which is perhaps unsurprising given that trials and criminal defense are a mirror, in some ways, of the state of our society at large. We had the opportunity to catch up with David Oscar Markus to discuss artificial intelligence and TikTok, and its impact on criminal trials. David is a highly regarded and respected criminal defense lawyer, host of the wonderful “For the Defense” podcast, and has represented celebrity defendants and politicians in cases of national import, among them Florida gubernatorial nominee Andrew Gillum, and Ghislaine Maxwell.

Join Jim and Greg for the Thursday 3 Martini Lunch as they discuss how the U.S. Secret Service smuggled President Trump out of Turkey on a different plane without the media or his staff knowing, Texas Republicans getting very worried about Ken Paxton losing the U.S. Senate race, Abdul El-Sayed becoming the latest Democrat to hate Thanksgiving, and the cautionary tale of former rising political star Andrew Gillum.First, they dive into how the Secret Service used covert moves to get President Trump onto a different plane when he was leaving Turkey last month due to the threat of an Iranian attack. Some in the media are crying foul because they or their colleagues were left on the original plane. Jim and Greg walk through what criticism is fair and what is not.Next, they get nauseous as Republicans in Texas openly worry that Ken Paxton is on track to lose his U.S. Senate race against James Talarico. GOP operatives tell Mark Halperin that Paxton is being lazy in his campaigning and evasive in addressing his many scandals. But this is Texas. Against Talarico. Is it really that dire? Then, they throw up their hands as Abdul El-Sayed becomes the latest Democrat in this cycle to express his hatred for Thanksgiving. Black men are highly visible in American culture, but increasingly absent from the places where long-term economic security is built: college campuses, stable employment, homeownership, and wealth. Why is that happening, and what do we do about it? Dr. Wes Bellamy joins Angela to discuss the new report, The Economic State of Black Men and Boys in the United States, and what the data reveals about the economic path Black men are navigating from childhood into adulthood. This is a conversation about more than unemployment numbers. It is about education, work, wealth, opportunity, and whether the institutions responsible for supporting Black men are actually meeting the moment. There is a coordinated effort to suppress the votes of Black folks. SCOTUS weakened the Voting Rights Act in their Louisiana v.
