Focusing on that inner work is a challenge to most.. and a habit to others. But most people should learn to understand that even though you can put all the work in on the outside and change your appearance, doesn't necessarily mean that you will be happy with those results. & when that is the case, that should tell you that you need to work on that inner beauty and strength. Danni did that with the bright colors. She was never so adventurous before. I think it has everything to do with her new love of self. Thanks to the therapist she is learning to lean quietly into herself. But the guilt of her telling Zac that Karen was giving it away with a double coupon in college is eating up the lining of her stomach. Unlike Karen, Danni is fully equipped to be a mother...at least not to Toni's kids. I like them together, but this "keep my kids for the summer" and ain't for Danni. Who knows? She revealing who she is sheet by sheet (thanks to her journal) and she may conform to being at least a helpmate for Toni and his little ones. I am here for it! Well, well, well...Andi mentioned Robin. Is he on his way back? Fingers crossed, toes crossed, eyes crossed too! I am here for it! The ladies had lovely meeting at Andi's and Fatima was not there...sure Karen enjoyed that. It was Sabrina's birthday. They had a round table about things they are going through on a high note. When it came down to Karen...she turned the moment until her moment to talk about all of stuff. Oh joy! I hope Sabrina gets her baby via frozen eggs. I also hope she knows that she will be exactly what she said.."Single but not solo." Boyfriend does not want any children! Pam is doing her thing bringing life to the salon. I love it! Karen is dragging along trying to convince herself and others that the baby she is carrying is father by Zac. The jury is still out. I'm not sure what will become of this visit to the hospital. Only time will tell! Why are the feds suddenly so quiet? Gary is walking around with blood trickling out of his nose because he is on that booger sugar. He is pissed that he can't have is way. But he is up to something. He has been watching Tamara since she got involved with Hayden. And now they are in a heated conversation that leads to a kiss. Gary is such a stain on my sole because go lay down in traffic. I kinda like Tamara though. And she's from my town. She's a D girl. "What up doe?" So Fatima has gotten accepted into law school just as Zac was receiving custody of his son. And she is now apprehensive about telling him in the midst of all this. Angie came to be her voice of reason. She's is such a sweetie...and who designs Angela's clothes. My hat goes off to him or her. Fatima is caught in a corner. I hope she does what is right for her while loving Zac and his child at the same time. But let's move away from that. Is Jordan who they allege that he is? We will see. Stay turned!!! --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/doris-a-johnson/message

When they were just thirteen and eleven years old, sisters Chloe and Halle Bailey started posting videos of themselves singing on YouTube and quickly built a following. Their covers often went viral—their version of Beyoncé's “Pretty Hurts” even caught the attention of Beyoncé, who brought them on tour as her opening act. Now, with two albums and five Grammy nominations behind them, the sisters are for the first time working on separate projects: Halle is starring as Ariel in an upcoming remake of “The Little Mermaid,” and Chloe is releasing a solo album, “In Pieces,” later this month. Chloe Bailey spoke with the contributing writer Lauren Michele Jackson at the New Yorker Festival in October about the mixed blessing of social-media stardom. “When we program our minds to think about being No. 1 … it really suffocates you and it stifles the process,” she says. “Right now, I'm just creating to be creating, and I have never felt more free.” Plus, the lost New Jersey photographs of Henri Cartier-Bresson. In 1975, the French master photographer spent a month documenting New Jersey, which he called a “shortcut to America.” Why did the pictures disappear?
in this episode we get real and vulnerable with ashley about eating disorders and depression.
Jordan, Damon & Tony are curious – why are men afraid to embrace beauty? If you walk away with one thing from this episode, know that if beating that face makes you happy, do it! We welcome Sir John to our Surface Level Family. Sir John, Creative Director and global make-up artist, brings a fun and insightful perspective to this conversation. As men, we tend to shy away from things that make us feel soft. This episode highlights ways in which we can be more confident in those parts of ourselves with some advice from a world-renowned expert. Remember, it's not about what you're doing, but why, so find joy through whatever it takes. We know a lot but we don't know it all, so join the conversation on social and let us know your thoughts.

Holly Neville, MD, FAAP, FACS is the division chief of Pediatric Surgery at Joe Di Maggio Children's Hospital and also serves as associate program director for the general surgery residency at Memorial Regional. Previously, she served as Professor of Clinical Surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine from 2006-2019. Holly attended Emory University (92) where she received a BS in Biology and served as Co-Captain of the varsity swim team, followed by the University of Florida College of Medicine (96). She completed her surgical residency at the University of Texas at Houston and Pediatric Surgery at the UT Southwestern. Holly has and continues to serve nationally on various committees, including the Educational Committee for International Pediatric Endosurgery Group, she chairs website development for American Pediatric Surgery Association and serves on the obesity surgery committee. She also serves on the Association of Women Surgeons and AAP. Recently, in collaboration with Kerri Palamara, MD (MGH) and Eunice Huang, MD (Vanderbilt), she developed a national coaching program for pediatric surgery trainees. This year they began their 3rd year of coaching. Holly has also brought the coaching program to the residents at Memorial Regional Hospital. Inspired by this program, Holly completed her coaching certification through Wellcoaches in 2021. Outside of work, Holly is the mom to 3 children: Zack (21), Camille (17) and Chloe (13). She is an avid sport enthusiast, enjoying paddle boarding, yoga, jogging, swimming, and Otillo racing. She also is a home chef, and due to Celiac disease, specializes in gluten free and vegetarian cooking, occasionally publishing her recipes and ideas in her blogs hollysglutenfreehome.com and www.hollycutstothechase.com. In this episode Dr. Neville talks about her goal as a woman in medicine: to be happy! What most of us want is just to fit in, be professionally satisfied and find joy in what we do. Our purpose gets lost in what everyone else wants us to do. The reality is that medicine is based on an apprenticeship model and a “one size fits all” approach. In reality it needs to be more of a , “What do YOU want and how can we get YOU THERE” approach. Otherwise we risk losing the passion and the purpose that brings us to our jobs. We cannot all be expected to fit a cube, irrespective of which shapes we come in. People come into medicine with a lot of purpose, intent on changing lives, and somewhere along the way we get lost. Acknowledging that moment can be a “game changer”. Dr. Neville believes that one can find joy in work and life but we might have to find ways to get re-inspired to do that and rekindle the joy. "Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater". Finding what works and what doesn't and taking a pause is imperative. Finding and reminding ourselves of our why .... Holly encourages getting coached and not just mentored. Coaching helps us leverage our strengths to get to where we want to be. Specifically, physicians need the guidance to give themselves permission to meet their own chosen outcomes. Holly urges us to get organized, have clear cut goals, written down, lay out a plan and have a timeline on a daily basis for personal and professional life. Intentionally choosing to be happy and occasionally refueling one's ego is a good thing. We need to get rid of our self-incriminating mentality. Holly's Happy Place: Her backyard, playing with her kids, Paddle boarding in nature. What's on her nightstand? Define your Why: Own Your Story so you can live and learn on purpose by Barbara Bray. One pearl to share: BE AUTHENTIC! If you forget your why, you forget your what and your how too. Listen to: Pretty Hurts
What happens when someone who has never heard Beyoncé before listens to one of her best-known albums? This episode, we're discussing Beyoncé's 2013 self-titled album, which comes in at #81 on the Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums list. It seems impossible, but our lead host Eamon O'Flynn has never knowingly listened to Queen Bey's music, which should make this review even more interesting. Don't worry, our other two co-hosts are well-acquainted with what one could conservatively describe as "one of the biggest music superstars alive today." Where do they land on Beyoncé? Does her self-titled album deserve to be among the greatest of all time? When did you realise that self-worth was attached to looks? Have you been told “you're so pretty - you don't need to work as hard”, or thought to yourself “If I look ‘better', I might get the job”? For every side of this surface-level coin, this episode is for YOU!Let's talk about another side of the glass ceiling: the one where you're too pretty to be smart, you only got the job because you're “beautiful”, and you get compliments based on outside, out-of-your-control elements. We dig into the dark side of the “pretty” compliments for young girls and how they combined with affection can end up linking girls' self-worth to appearance rather than things in their control such as intelligence or humour. Looks in general hold so much weight in society (pun intended), so we want to encourage you to show up as YOUR best self. So let's get real, here: from Mowgli to Erin Brokovich, from Barbie to Gigantor, we get into the weeds with the ‘unsaid side' of ‘pretty', and highlight some of the impactful compliments we've given and received that highlight the shine from within! Today's dose of “Vitamin D” is dedicated to doing the inner work. The kind of work that takes time, takes courage and requires self love. It's the kind of work that may involve you falling down to your knees, shedding a few tears and shutting out the noise from the rest of the world. As humans, we are so quick to want to ‘change' in order to meet someone else's standards, but we're unsure of what we stand for ourselves. Damn what other people have to say and what other people believe! What do you believe? Who do you say you are? What do you stand for? In Beyoncé's hit song, “Pretty Hurts,” she gets to the heart of the matter. We all desire to be happy, and sometimes it's by any means necessary. Whether it's a ‘nip/tuck' or popping a pill, we're constantly trying to escape reality in hopes of creating some ‘perfect' illusion. Constantly trying to “shine the light on whatever's worse. Tryna fix, but you can't see. It's the soul that needs the surgery.” Failing to realize there “ain't no doctor or therapeutic that can take the pain away. The pain's inside.” So it's time to do the work! The first step is to declare the love that you have for yourself. If you need to cry, you cry. If you need to scream, you scream. Take a pen and write it down if you have to. If you have to exclude yourself from certain people and certain situations, you do that. That's what I call "putting in the work!" So the next time someone asks you if you're happy with yourself, let the answer be, "yes!" You are be-YOU-tiful! That's it for your dose of "Vitamin D." be sure to follow me on all social media @DawnDaiSpeaks and until next time, always remember, "you are your greatest asset!"
