Stu Watts chats with Dylan Ollivierre, who is an award-winning songwriter, producer, and musician based in Perth, Western Australia. Dylan's story began when his parents met on Bob Dylan's yacht. They named the son after him and a life in music was soon to follow. Ever since then, Dylan has been inspired to create records that will stand the test of time. Launching the Money War, the band he shares with wife Carmen Ollivierre, successfully worked as a CV to gain further music production work. Then working as a touring musician for over a decade allowed Dylan to experience both sides of the studio glass. Notable credits so far include grentperez, Meg Mac, Great Gable, Jae Laffer (The Panics), Joan and the Giants, Siobhan Cotchin, Tia Gostelow, and Holy Holy, Highlights of Dylan's career include placing #2 on the ARIA chart, two feature albums and a dozen playlist additions on Triple J, over 20 million streams, nomination for the Australian Music Prize, 10 plus WAM Song of the Year wins, and signing to Mirror Music/ BMF on a worldwide publishing deal. Neil Finn of Crowed House declared that Dylan ‘is a great songwriter'. Dylan is currently collaborating with Jae Laffer (The Panics), Joan and the Giants, EDIE, Bri Clark, and Matt Gresham. Topics discussed include: Taking the time to figure out how to make music work within your life Different approaches to getting the most out of the artist Having difficult conversations that can lead to better outcomes ...and more Make sure to subscribe or follow this channel and share it on your socials! Tia has only just turned 21 and has released two albums with the song “Strangers” just shy of 12 million streams and certified GOLD, 2 Triple J feature albums and the Queensland Music Award for album of the year for “Thick Skin”. The most exciting thing for Tia is that she has really settled in with her family of bandmates Jordan Bain, Sebastian Jennings-Hingston & Izzy De Leon. Her live achievements already include a UK tour, SOLD OUT Australian headline shows, performances at Falls and Groovin In The Moo festivals and sharing the stage with the likes of Bernard Fanning, Boy & Bear, Ball Park Music, Frightened Rabbit, Lewis Capaldi and Gomez. After the success of her award winning 2018 debut album Thick Skin, Tia Gostelow changed her home base, her producer and ultimately her sound for Chrysalis. In 2016, Tia Gostelow was finishing high school in Mackay, Queensland. The confidence of her early songs like ‘Vague Utopia’ attracted the interest of our Unearthed team, which led to her being nominated as a finalist for the annual Unearthed High, as well as taking out the Indigenous Initiative Award as part of that competition. Her debut album Thick Skin followed two years later, resulting in Tia becoming the youngest ever winner of Album of The Year at the Queensland Music Awards. In the lead up to her second album though, Tia changed her home base, her producer and her sound. With the release of Chrysalis, Richard Kingsmill spoke to the 21yo about how hard she found relocating to Brisbane, and how she has gained a stronger sense of her indigenous identity over the last few years.
Today I’m joined by singer-songwriter Tia Gostelow, on the eve of her new album release, to wax rhapsodic about the 2013 debut LP by friend of the show Melody Pool, ‘The Hurting Scene’. We unpack Melody’s wielding of emotional restraint to create tension, her unaffected skill as a vocalist, her literate lyrics, the emotional impact of songs like ‘Henry’, Tia’s history covering Melody’s songs and how she inspired her songwriting, why Tia makes me feel like an old man and I dig into the archives to revisit a classic conversation with Melody herself about the recording of the album.
The "featuring" phenomenon in music explains that combining artists of different genres increases a song's popularity. The greater the difference or cultural distance between the genres of the artists involved, the more likely the song is to reach the top of the charts! In this week's episode we give you guys a run down of our top features and artist collaborations of 2020. From international album collaborations like those on Joji, Amine, Omar Apollo and Disclosure newest album releases, to our home grown aussie favourites on new works from Cosmo's Midnight, Alice Ivy, Tia Gostelow, Baker Boy and many more!
