We've said it before and we'll say it again, vodka is having its moment and to prove it, we're sampling two bottles of the good stuff in this episode. Hoefling, while the name of this week's bar might need a bit more explaining, it's All My Gods, a new take on the classic dive bar, which opened in London last week. And on to the tonic part: we're joined by drinks powerhouses Iain McPherson and Millie Tang talking all things Schweppes Pioneers, the new advocacy programme they're proudly spearheading along with Vasilis Kyritsis and Simone Caporale for Schweppes. For more from The Cocktail Lovers, visit thecocktaillovers.comFor the products featured in this episode, see websites below:What we're drinkingCampari & IPA or IPA & Campari (the ingredients say it all!)45ml Campari180ml IPATwist of lemon to garnishMethod:Pour ingredients into an ice-filled Collins glass. Send us a textWhat happens when the veil between worlds grows thin? Both birth and death represent profound thresholds where we're asked to surrender while somehow maintaining our power. After returning from maternity leave, host Elena Box welcomes her birth doula Alexandra Monahan for a raw, intimate conversation about resilience during life's most challenging transitions.Alexandra shares her journey of walking her mother through end-of-life care after a long battle with cancer and addiction. This profound experience directly influenced her approach to supporting birthing families, especially in creating sacred space during transformative moments. The conversation reveals why Elena specifically sought a doula who understood death transitions to guide her through birth—recognizing the spiritual connection between these universal human experiences. Then Elena opens up about her own dramatic birth experience—a placental abruption that forced her to abandon her carefully crafted home birth plans. With continuous bleeding, medical interventions, and moment-by-moment life-or-death decisions, Elena faced her greatest fear while still maintaining agency in her care. Through their shared recollections, we witness how resilience manifests not in controlling circumstances but in how we respond when plans crumble. The most powerful revelation? Surrender does not mean giving up bodily autonomy. Even in the most challenging circumstances where options seem limited, we always retain the choice of how to meet the moment. Both women emphasize that difficult experiences don't diminish the beauty of life's transitions but highlight our capacity to find strength in unexpected places. Their wisdom extends far beyond birth and death, offering profound insights for navigating any of life's challenges with grace, presence, and what Elena calls being "badass about it."Ready to build your resilience for life's transformative moments? Gin & Tonic. Salt & Pepper. Fish & Chips. Done & Dusted. Bread & Butter. Sonny & Cher. Earth Wind & Fire. Lock Stock & Barrel. Signed Sealed & Delivered. All of these examples are what are called Irreversible Binomials & Trinomials. The cute phrases or names that ALWAYS appear in the same order. That sound really stupid if switched–”Jelly and peanut butter anyone?” Jon and Kurt, feeling this is truly excellent smart drivel, delve into the world of irreversible binomials and trinomials. Some they think have it wrong, others they agree are culturally accepted, while still others just seem right to our co-hosts. Yet, as always, they also disagree on a few. Ladies and gentlemen there is no rhyme or reason why you shouldn't listen to this episode hook, line, and sinker. Rock and roll….

Jen is a design powerhouse with a journalism background, and she's here to show you how to incorporate your story into every corner of your brand. We talk personal newsletters, visual branding, and how to make your audience feel like they already know and trust you—before you even make the ask. This conversation will help you step into the next version of yourself as a business owner. You'll learn how to evolve your brand as you grow, stand out in a crowded market, and connect with your audience in a way that feels both strategic and authentic. His short, sharp, educational videos don't just sell vitamins; they get people talking, thinking, and making better health choices. In this conversation, Sunna reveals:*How he built a market-leading brand from scratch (despite launching just as COVID shut down retail).*The power of content-first brand building—and why he ignored investors who told him to stop.*The myths and misinformation in the vitamin industry—and why most supplements don't work.*What's next for Tonic Health as they scale at lightning speed?- Tune in, take notes, and get ready to rethink everything you thought you knew about vitamins, content, and brand growth. Ahhhh g'day mate! We're heading down under for one of Australia's finest. When Queen told us we had to look out for the planet, we really weren't fans of being preached at by rocks stars, so how will we find this politically-charged chart topper? We get another question in our #AskUsAnything channel from Barry and there's a little bit of Britney involved.... what a time to be alive! If Kev were to title this episode, he'd probably call it "How do we sleep while our beds are burning?", or possibly, "Get out of the building you idiot, your bed is on fire!"The twelfth episode in this podcast-within-a-podcast covers a song submitted by the marvellous Mocca Smith and is the song that pushed Midnight Oil into the global consciousness; "Beds Are Burning".The poem, titled "Tonic" is by a fantastic fella Kev served with in the military, named Paul Cather, who performs poetry under the name BAMPOeT. Sometimes being naive is the superpower. Just ask Sophie Hood. This week on The Lazy CEO, Sophie—founder of Seoul Tonic—shares how she turned a side hustle into one of Australia's most innovative beverage brands, now stocked in Woolies, BWS, Dan Murphy's, and over 2,000 independents—all without a single full-time employee. With a background in finance and strategy at EY, LVMH, and Red Bull, Sophie had the big-brand experience—but it was her gut instinct, bold thinking, and scrappy execution that set Seoul Tonic apart. She and Jane talk about trusting your gut, getting to market quickly, and why waiting for perfection is often just fear in disguise.Sophie and Jane also dive into the advantages of launching in Australia—why it's a slower, more forgiving market that gives founders the space to test, learn, and pivot on the go. Sophie shares how working full-time allowed her to reinvest every dollar back into the business, how she took calls from the Red Bull office to build credibility, and why prime checkout placement can be more valuable than shelf space. From bootstrapping to winning Food Stars with Gordon Ramsay and Janine Allis, to expanding, this is a crash course in starting scrappy and scaling smart.Note: This episode was recorded at the start of April. #146: In this episode, Frauke sits down with award-winning writer and biologist David George Haskell to talk about his book Thirteen Ways to Smell a Tree. David explains how trees smell, reveals what aromatic language they use to communicate with other living beings, and spells out how we should smell a tree. He then shares what made him decide to write the book, including how we can re-engage with trees and rebuild connections to the natural world. David gives an inspiring answer to the question of which one tree we should smell, and reveals which tree smell is most meaningful to him. They then go deep into two of the thirteen smells in the book, the Green Ash tree and Gin & Tonic, where David reveals some intriguing aromatic stories. He also shares why it's so important to pay attention and invites the listener to engage in practices of smelling (especially with others). David also explains why he chose to include the link between sound and smell to remind us that all of our senses are connected. He reveals what he hopes people will take away from the book, what gives him hope for the future, and what's next for him (hint: it involves flowers!). This is a truly inspiring conversation that you'll want to come back to again and again.
