Today we welcome Oxford Kondo (http://twitter.com/oxford_kondo) to discuss whether it's racist for Game of Thrones to be so white, and on the flipside the trend of casting minorities to play white characters, including racebending (changing traditionally white characters to black, or even using nonwhite actors to play white historical figures in biopics). I talk with the founders of Stranger Comics: Sebastian Jones, Darrell May and Joshua Cozine. We discuss what it takes for them to create a rich fantasy world in their comics, with black characters up front! We also talk about the debacle of the Legion of Superheroes character, Tyroc. Ha, you'll have to check that out for yourself: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyroc This interview was right after Denver Comic Con 2018, at Mutiny Information Cafe. Remember to support Stranger Comics' latest Kickstarter, starting September 20th: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1182319554/1183580091?ref=484825&token=f2a99888 This interview also features my brother, Mason, who remains mysteriously silent until the end, when he feels moved to ask a question: https://ravencliffmedia.com

This time on the Couch: It's three white people teaching the world about racial tolerance when Mike, James, and Shée lightly tread through Superboy no. 216, starring the Legion of Super-Heroes! It's a thousand years in the future and bigotry still exists in the form of Black Panther ripoff Tyroc hating on whitey (and greeny, in the case of Brainiac 5) for failing to help his people. Is what follows a thoughtful lesson in bridge-building and understanding, or just the catalyst for three podcasters verbally squirming for 30 minutes? Plus, in a backup tale nobody asked for, pudgy ex-Legion member Bouncing Boy won't stop bragging about how his wife can split into two women. Dude, you're already way out of your league, just keep your mouth shut and try not to ruin this for yourself.Find out more at http://darkseidscouch.com
The Subs dig into Superboy and the Legion of Super Heroes issue 222. Tyroc’s been framed for a crime he didn’t commit, but who framed him?
The Subs take a look at Superboy and the Legion featuring the return of Tyroc to the pages of the Legion. As well as the first appearance of the Legion’s most tolerant member ever, Earth Man!
The always excellent Alan White, creator of The Power Principle, joins the Subs to welcome a new Legionnaire to the team. Tyroc meets the Legion, while elsewhere, Bouncing Boy and Duo Damsel run afoul of some 30th Century hoodlums.
It’s like two episodes in one, as the Subs talk Legion of Super Heroes Vol. 6 #2, and dig into the penultimate chapter of The Great Darkness Saga in Legion of Super Heroes #293. Kirby Krackle abounds as the Legion fights the servants of darkness. Meanwhile the new Legion issue heralds the return of TYROC! […]
