Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universesIt's been a busy week for the MCU starting with a potentially big leak where costumes from Avengers: Doomsday were revealed. With filming now wrapped, an image from the wrap party gifts showed those who want to look what our characters may look like in the upcoming blockbuster. In other “oops” news, Spider-Man actor Tom Holland suffered a mild concussion while filming a stunt for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, halting filming for several days. Here's hoping Spidey's bump on the noggin heals fast! Daredevil: Born Again has already been renewed for a third season. The return to Charlie Cox's outing as the Man Without Fear was well received this year on Disney+ and season two will premiere next May. Lastly, Marvin Jones, III will appear as Tombstone in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. On Monday, Lucasfilm dropped the long-awaited teaser trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu - Star Wars' newest feature film coming out in May 2026. As we've discussed before, this will be Lucasfilm's first feature film for the franchise since 2019's The Rise of Skywalker and it seems like a lot is riding on Grogu's tiny green shoulders.James Gunn didn't leave us hanging this week as the writer/director/co-chair of DC Studios shared an Instagram post of his second draft of the script for Man of Tomorrow. An image taking up most of the cover shows an anatomical cutout of a human head and brain leading to speculation that Brainiac will be the villain Superman and perhaps Lex Luthor have to team up against. Matt Reeves also chimed in on the same topic, though separately, and shared that the villain for The Batman: Part II will be a character that has “never really been done” in a film before. Reeves also confirmed his films are Elseworlds projects not part of the DCU.The first trailer has been released for Sony's comedic reimagining of the 1997 film Anaconda which stars Jack Black and Paul Rudd. The film will hit theaters on December 25.Director Shawn Levy posted a photo to Instagram last week of Ryan Gosling in costume on the set of Star Wars: Starfighter, offering the first look from the film's shoot. Gosling and co-star Flynn Gray are seen posing with the Mediterranean Sea behind them.Paul Walter Hauser is joining the cast of director Zach Cregger‘s new Resident Evil movie.DC announced last week that its Batman No. 1, a relaunch of the Caped Crusader by writer Matt Fraction and artist Jorge Jiménez, has sold over 500,000 copies, making it the top selling comic of the year by far.Stan Lee will posthumously return to L.A. Comic con, this time as a hologram that will use AI to have conversations with fans. Fans will be able to speak with the hologram at the Stan Lee Experience section of the con, a 1,500 ft. enclosed booth which costs between $15-$20 to enter, depending on whether you buy tickets ahead of time. And like meeting a celebrity or getting autographs, there will be paid opportunities to take photos with the hologram or have a three-minute, one-on-one conversation with it.Taylor Swift is returning to theaters from Oct. 3-Oct. 5 for her album release. Swift is partnering with AMC theaters for the event film which will feature behind the scenes making of her new album Life of a Showgirl, as well as a music video premiere. The Eras Tour film was a phenomenon two years ago, becoming the top grossing concert film of all time with $261.6 million globally. After rumors last week that Paramount was looking into making a bid for Warner Brothers, Puck News is now reporting that a well placed inside source has verified that Netflix is preparing to make a bid for the studio as well.

In the second half of my conversation with Matt Fraction, we shift gears to talk about his ever-evolving writing process, from Batman to his Eisner-winning work on Jimmy Olsen and other standout projects from across his career.Fraction digs into how his approach to storytelling has changed over the years, balancing structure with spontaneity, and what keeps him inspired as both a writer and a fan.We also dive into today's movie and TV landscape—what's working, what isn't, and how the comics medium continues to shape (and sometimes outshine) its Hollywood adaptations. To wrap things up, Matt and I swap some of our favorite cult film recommendations—deep cuts and offbeat classics that deserve a spotlight. It's a wide-ranging, candid discussion that blends comics craft, pop culture commentary, and cinephile passion.

In this exclusive conversation, Matt Fraction joins me to discuss the launch of Batman #1 and the beginning of his ambitious new run at DC Comics. Fraction pulls no punches as he talks about his bold reinterpretation of Gotham City and its darkest corners. We dig into his surprising new take on Killer Croc, explore the emotional fallout of Batman's ongoing struggle without Alfred, and break down the striking redesign of Gotham as a city under siege.Fraction also teases the shocking status quo shift for Jim Gordon—demoted to beat cop—and how Vandal Savage has twisted his way into control of both the Gotham Police and the city itself. This is the start of what promises to be a sweeping, character-driven saga that redefines the Dark Knight's world from the ground up.

Toward the end of our conversation with Matt Fraction, he mentions how his upcoming Batman book with Jorge Jiménez represents where his Hawkeye series would have gone if he and David Aja had continued. What does that mean, exactly? It's complicated, and you'll just have to listen to this week's podcast to fully understand. And that's what we call in the biz, a big ol' tease. Our chat with Matt Fraction concludes our San Diego Comic-Con International coverage, and we're so frickin' excited that we get to do so with this writer and this creation. As longtime listeners know, Batman is one of our boys, and the character has never been in as many good hands as he is right now at DC. Beyond this new Batman relaunch with Fraction and Jiménez, we have stellar titles in Absolute Batman, Batman and Robin, Batman and Robin: Year One, Batman: Dark Patterns, and probably a half dozen books we're forgetting about at this moment. Batman, created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane, first appeared in Detective Comics #27, published on March 30th, 1939. The character's longevity makes him indestructible. He won't break, no matter what Matt Fraction and Jorge Jiménez do to him. This comes with tremendous freedom, allowing Fraction and Jiménez to throw everything of themselves into the character, and their longevity on the line will ultimately be determined by us, the readers. Having read the first two issues in the new series, we can happily report that Matt Fraction and Jorge Jiménez's take on the character is very much our jam, and rather unique from the other excellent flavors you can find on the stand every month. Their Batman operates in a semi-one-and-done structure, embracing the medium of comics while still satisfying those who crave long-haul storytelling. Mostly, it's a fun as hell ride that looks slick. These are superhero comics that are not afraid to be superhero comics. They're damn proud of it, in fact. However, before we dive into all the Batman talk with Matt Fraction, we must regale you with our recent comic shop road trip to Richmond and Virginia Beach, Virginia. We did it, gang. We've already completed our mission to visit fifty comic book shops in fifty-two weeks. We've learned a lot from this experiment, and we need to discuss both the wonderful and not-so-wonderful aspects we've observed in these stores. Strap in for some serious retail talk. Batman #1 is written by Matt Fraction, illustrated by Jorge Jiménez, colored by Tomeu Morey, lettered by Clayton Cowles, and published by DC. The first issue arrives in comic book shops on September 3rd. They're constantly snagging rockstar creators like James Stokoe, Tom Scioli, Andrew MacLean, Louie Joyce, Jake Smith, Eric Powell, Rosie Knight, and Oliver Ono to unleash their talents on cinema's most significant kaiju universe. And this July, IDW is taking their Godzilla books to the next level by introducing the Kei-Sei era. This new shared universe line begins with Godzilla #1 by Tim Seeley and Nikola Čižmešija. There's a new Godzilla design, a mess load of Kaiju antagonists…and protagonists - plus, superpowered human characters. Thanks to IDW Publishing, it's a good time to be a fan of the Big G and quality comics. In Part 1 of this epic creator roundtable, Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming dive into their long-awaited return to Powers, now published by Dark Horse. They reflect on the legacy of the groundbreaking series, why now was the right time to bring it back, and what's in store for Deena Pilgrim and a new generation of police officers.Meanwhile, Matt Fraction joins the conversation to share insights on launching his new Batman run, It's a deep, candid, and funny chat among three of comics' most influential voices.
Jace sits down with Matt Fraction at SDCC 2025 and talks about Batman. Matt touches on how he was approached for the job and whether he had a Batman tale he always wanted to tell. Plus they touch on Gotham City and how Matt sees it versus how it's been depicted for the last decade plus, which actually lead to Matt creatign a map of Gotham and it's neighborhoods. Also, since it wouldn't be a Batman comic without the incredble villains that Batman faces time and again, the talk touches on the Batman Rogues as well. Perhaps the most intriguing things about this take on Batman from Matt may be the return of the grey and blue costume along with exploring the relationship between Batman and Bruce Wayne.

For "Hush 2," with Jim Lee, which will be released as a 12-part story split into two six-issue arcs.Loeb emphasized that the story will not interfere with Matt Fraction's Batman run and will end with a cliffhanger. He also noted that "Hush 2" will be released monthly, with the second half likely coming out after a few month's break

On this episode, Eric leads Ryan into the "Reign of Blood". This crazy Thor one shot from 2008 is penned by Matt Fraction who would a few years after this do his own run on the main Thor title. This book reads like a death metal album! It has everything ... ice giant slaying, dwarf orgies, undead legions, and Thor controlling something called the BLOOD COLOSSUS!Consider supporting the show on PATREON: https://www.patreon.com/user?u=65477484Join the conversation on DISCORD: https://discord.gg/XHA3a2b2uHCheck out our INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/manypathspodcasts?igsh=Nm15MjQ2dW10cXZ3&utm_source=qr

GET YOUR MULTIVERSE NEWS MERCH HERE:https://multiverse-news-shop.fourthwall.com/Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universesMarvel Studios is returning to its roots and the source of its inspiration – the comics! For the first time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's history, the studio and the comic publishing arm of the company are collaborating to create a tie-in comic for The Fantastic Four: First Steps. While there have been official tie-in comics to the films before, it was a case of the comics working within the confines of what was already planned and established for the films, not a true collaboration from the ground up. To that end, Marvel has pulled out all the stops by bringing talent the likes of writer Matt Fraction, who was allowed to visit the films set along with other creators working on the comic. The comic, a one-shot that releases July 2, ahead of the film's July 25 release, is said to be designed to act as media that exists within the film's continuity.20th Century Studios released the teaser trailer for Predator: Badlands, the highly anticipated sequel to Dan Trachtenberg's Prey. The trailer, while brief at just over a minute, is jampacked with footage that includes vistas, locales, creatures and technology never seen within the franchise, including two mysterious characters: one being what seems to a Predator protagonist and Elle Fanning in an enigmatic, humanoid role who begs more questions than answers.A couple weeks ago we discussed the casting of several key figures in HBO's upcoming Harry Potter series, including John Lithgow as Hogwarts Headmaster, Albus Dumbledore. Now, while speaking the London Times last week, the actor revealed that he was not prepared for the resulting public outcries and backlash in response to his participation - given series creator J.K. Rowling's involvement; as Rowling's public transphobic stance and comments in recent years have been the subject of controversy. Elsewhere, David Tennant, who played Barty Crouch in the films, offered his appropriately timed insights on the author while receiving an allyship award at the British LGBT Awards, saying, “We shouldn't live in a world where that is worth remarking on — I don't wish ill of her, I just wish her to shut up.” The lines between the worlds of make believe and our real one are often blurry and the decision to separate art from a problematic artist is a complicated and personal one. The review embargo has lifted on Thunderbolts* and from 107 total reviews, the film currently has a certified fresh rating of 88% on Rotten Tomatoes. The upcoming prequel Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping has cast Joseph Zada as Haymitch Abernathy and Whitney Peak as his girlfriend, Lenore Dove Baird. Mckenna Grace will play District 12 tribute Maysilee Donner, Jesse Plemons will portray a young Plutarch Heavensbee, and the film is set for release on November 20, 2026.Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming Jenna Ortega-led series Wednesday. The series will follow a split release schedule with part 1 dropping on August 6, and part 2 to follow on September 3.Sydney Sweeney is set to star in a film adaptation of hit video game “Split Fiction” with Jon M. Chu directing, Variety has learned. The script for the movie is being written by “Deadpool & Wolverine” screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.Emma Mackey has been cast as the White Witch in Narnia, Greta Gerwig's adaptation of C.S. Lewis' The Chronicles of Narnia fantasy novels.Over the weekend, “Minecraft” collected $37.8 million overseas and $60.5 million worldwide in its fourth weekend of release. Meanwhile, “Sinners” added $13.5 million internationally and $58.5 million globally in its second week. For the second consecutive weekend, Warner has nabbed the No. 1 and 2 spots on international, domestic and global box office charts.
Marvel is bringing a fresh twist to its storytelling strategy by officially connecting its comics to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Announced today, The Fantastic Four: First Steps #1 will serve as a direct prequel to the upcoming Fantastic Four movie, giving fans a look at the team's earliest days before they hit the big screen next year.Set four years before the film's events, First Steps is penned by acclaimed writer Matt Fraction (Hawkeye) and illustrated by Mark Buckingham (Fables). The one-shot promises to dive into the Fantastic Four's first mission, offering a grounded look at how Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm became the world's most famous superhero family. One of the standout elements is the comic's cover, crafted by Phil Noto, which pays tribute to the iconic 1961 debut of the Fantastic Four by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. It is a respectful nod to the team's rich comic book legacy while also establishing them firmly within the MCU's expanding canon. While Marvel has occasionally released tie-in comics for past MCU films, First Steps feels like a bigger step toward fully fleshing out the universe between movie releases. Matt Fraction even teased in a statement that this project could be “the start of something big,” hinting that more MCU-connected comics might be on the horizon. With the Fantastic Four film expected to largely skip over the team's traditional origin story, this comic fills an important gap for fans eager to see how Marvel's First Family got their start in this new cinematic timeline. The Fantastic Four: First Steps #1 hits comic book shops on July 2, 2025, just weeks ahead of the movie's release.

This episode is a real treat because I get to talk about one of my favorite ongoing series at a time where the ongoing series is becoming increasingly rare. I had legendary comic book artist Terry Dodson on awhile back with Pornsak Pichetshote talking about their Horizon Experiment project The Manchurian and Terry mentioned there was a new Adventureman arc coming out in early 2025. I jumped at the chance to lock him in again for a chat, and he's brought along long time co-creator and comics writer Matt Fraction to the party and what a party it is. Rarely do I get to talk about the intersection of comics and architecture but Adventureman's pages are coated with art deco rich adornment. We get into why New York is such a special setting for the book, some of their inspirations behind the project initially, and how the landscape of art deco manifests in different places as this volume, Family Tree, takes us out of the Big Apple and around the globe with three unique stand alone stories. What do luchadores and French sailors have in common? You'll have to see what's in store as the stylish epic pulp adventure series hits comic book shop shelves. Adventureman Family Tree will be released on March 19th. From the publisher As the Connell family reels from the shattering events of ADVENTUREMAN: GHOST LIGHTS, they'll need to tap into the roots of the Adventureman family tree of heroes to make the world right again, starting with a luchador dynasty, savage savate kick-fighting, and the star-crossed teenage romance that brought Adventureman and Mme. Chagall the Superscientist together! PATREON We have a new Patreon, CryptidCreatorCornerpod. If you like what we do, please consider supporting us. We got two simple tiers, $1 and $3. Matt Fraction really should be writing the new Batman comic, but instead he made the mistake of wondering, "What exactly is this comic strip Jeff and Brooke are talking about?" It's a dangerous question to pose to yourself. Even more so, as Matt discovered, if one makes the mistake of Googling this comic strip. It kind of opens a Pandora's box. Which is what happened, and the next thing Matt knew, he was reading years' worth of Chickweed Lanes. Seriously guys, he took pages of notes! After the deep immersion, he agreed to join us on the podcast to talk about the things he witnessed. That includes: couples going to TGI Fingerbang's, something known as "ffawnky mozm fimps," curious children who lift mommy's skirt, hetero-curious ballet dancers, buttholes that look like clown's mouths, falling in love with Nazis, vaginas (with and without crawfish), "knockout gams," how much Brooke Mc-El-Dee knows about menstruation (not much!), elderly men who produce ink when startled, the hypnotic sexiness of cat's buttholes, and a final strip so surprising, it floors Brooke Dillman, almost literally. And this after two of the earlier strips nearly killed her already! Along the way, we talk about Dilbert, Alan Moore, Gene Simmons, and Kansas City's most famous serial killer. Also Matt makes a really good point about Raiders of the Lost Ark. It's our largest episode ever and for a good reason! Drake! Dillman! Fraction! Let's go! The Chickweed strips we discuss this episode: You can find all of the strips on Instagram by clicking here (https://www.instagram.com/p/DHPuijSRw0C/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==).
