You stepped in for Tom Taylor on this annual—can you walk us through how that came about? Was this a story you had to write quickly, or did you have some room to breathe and make it your own? 2. The story kicks off with a classic locked-room mystery—an impossible murder in a high-tech safe room. What drew you to that kind of puzzle, and how did you approach building a detective narrative worthy of Batman?3. There's a moment where Batman's costume subtly shifts from black to blue once he's in London. Is that just a visual cue, or is there something more symbolic going on there?4. What's your take on the annual format? Do you see it as a chance to tell something self-contained and weird, or a pressure cooker to do a lot in a single oversized issue?5. You're working with a trio of incredible artists—Stefano Raffaele, John McCrea, and Fico Ossio. How did you decide who handled which parts of the story, and what did each artist bring to the table stylistically?6. This annual flirts with the idea of Batman not just solving crimes but confronting the nature of reality. How far is too far for Batman, in your mind, when it comes to stories that push past the physical world?7. UK mythology and angels? John Dee's magic - Elizabethan 8. Maybe the most important question of them all, what is Batman's favorite tea and how does he take it?

Jace is joined by Al Ewing to chat about Detective Comics 2025 Annual. Al has a locked room murder mystery for Batman to solve in three acts. He talks about collaborating with three different artists, one for each of the chapters. Plus he gets to bring Batman across the pond to his own stompling grounds. The guys also chat about what makes Batman such a versatile character and the incredible roster of villains Batman has. It's a great story and Jace is exceptionally happy that on his first Batman story, Al didn't do the cliched thing and use the Joker.

We have another One Bad Day as we head to Hollywood with Batman's shapeshifting foe, Clayface! We go back to 1940 for the first appearance of Basil Karlo aka Clayface then to James Tynion IV's revamp of his origin story (with a nod to Batman: The Animated Series). And we trade gloomy Gotham for sunny LA as Basil leaves a muddy trail of destruction through Tinsel Town in the truly amazing take from Collin Kelly, Jackson Lanzing and Xermánico in the One Bad Day series. We wrap up by speculating what is next for Clay including a potential role in The Batman 2. Ep. 96 What if Batman's villain Clayface had one bad day in Hollywood?Earth of an unknown designation as seen in Batman - One Bad Day: Clayface #1We have another One Bad Day, this time with Batman's shapeshifting foe Clayface! We provide backstories to the four primary Clayfaces (there are over eight of them in total including Clownface!) before diving into the initial appearance of the first Clayface (aka Basil Karlo) before he even had powers, back in 1940 from the minds of Bill Finger and Bob Kane. We jump to 2018 to see the current DC Universe's origin story for Basil/Clayface with Detective Comics Annual #1 from James Tynion IV and Eddy Barrows. We then center our conversation around the truly stellar multiverse story in One Bad Day that sees Basil travel to Los Angeles for a one day homicidal stroll in the sun from the minds of writers Collin Kelly & Jackson Lanzing and artist Xermánico. But what's next for Clayface? We chat about Alan Tudyk's hilarious turn on Harley Quinn and whether Clayface will turn up in The Batman 2 from Matt Reeves. We also chat about the connections to Boris Karloff and Mike Flanagan's would-be take on this iconic character(s).
