None of us could have failed to be moved by Meghan’s op-ed for the New York Times in which she shared her miscarriage story. As well as giving us a frank insight into what it feels like to go through a miscarriage, prompting many other people to feel safe in sharing their own stories of loss, Meghan has again came back to the theme that she and Harry often speak about, that of asking people Are You OK? and of genuinely wanting to hear the answer. What Meghan’s article brings home to me, as well as highlighting the issue of miscarriage and making this topic one that can be discussed without guilt or taboo, is her continued willingness to talk openly and unashamedly about things either not talked about or talked about in hushed tones. In an article on the Australian news site SBS journalist Natalie Reilly said of Meghan’s article "that it shared important information not just for women but also for men about emotional effects of grief." This move away from being stoic and away from putting on a brave face, to openly discussing how we how feeling does not come easy for everyone. In an article by Brendan O’Neill the editor or Spiked-online titled ‘Do we really need to know about Meghan’s miscarriage," O’Neill speaks of his discomfort in reading of the intimate details of what Meghan and Harry went through, adding that he felt like a voyeur in reading the piece. What Harry and Meghan and William and Kate have been championing is a movement where it is OK to say how you feel. It is not weak – it is not odd - it is alright to say how you are honestly feeling and not to be judged on that. It is OK to talk openly about emotions and mental health. The more people who talk about these things the more normal they become. Please take a second to rate my show... And check out my blog at www.kindthoughtsformeghanmarkle.com
This week, Mark is delighted to welcome Harry Hargrave, the Chief Executive Officer for the Museum of the Bible, to the podcast. After spending over 45 years in finance, marketing and business operations, Harry found the site, obtained DC approvals and oversaw the planning and development process for this incredible Museum which is 430,000 square feet of rare and fascinating artifacts spanning 4,000 years of history. It is among the most technologically advanced and engaging museums in the world offering visitors an immersive and personalized experience with the Bible and its ongoing impact on the world around us. Harry is also the chairman of the Miracle of Nazareth International Foundation, chairman of the Christian Workers Foundation, and a founding elder of Park Cities Presbyterian Church in Dallas. The passage he has chosen to discuss is Psalms 19. Harry begins by sharing his summary of the passage, and its meaning for both himself and the Museum. He then describes how the Museum came to be created, the impact it has upon visitors, and its continued operation throughout the current pandemic. The artifacts, their ongoing discovery, and the process of establishing their provenance is discussed as well as the Museum’s extensive American Heritage section. Harry concludes the episode, as all guests do, with the lessons he has learned about humanity. As Mark notes, the work that Harry does through this remarkable Museum is “opening the Bible and opening the hearts of the Bible by making it so interesting and so accessible and so fun” - a noble achievement. Episode Highlights: · Harry’s summary of his selected passage and why it’s meaningful to him · The Museum of the Bible and why this passage is important it · How the Museum came to be created and its purpose · What surprises Harry about people’s responses at the Museum · How it is staying open during the current pandemic · Bible artifacts and their ongoing discovery · What Harry observes in people being introduced to the Bible · How the Museum acquires artifacts and establishes their provenance · The Museum’s American Heritage section · The lessons that Harry has learned about mankind Quotes: “That’s a beautiful passage for people of all faiths, but especially the Jewish and Christian faith.” “It’s the gift that keeps giving.” “Would you come be a tour guide for us?” “It’s the book that keeps talking to you.” “It’s our job to show them the Bible, and encourage them to read the Bible, and give them reasons for that.” “Archeological discoveries are still finding the Bible to be true and fulfilling the promises that God made to all of us.” “It makes the Bible come alive when you go to Israel and spend one or two weeks there.” “We want to tell the stories of how people see the value of the Bible throughout our world.” “It’s an important part of the nation’s history and, of course, an entire subculture of the United States, and the world now.” “What I see in mankind is a great ability to make mistakes, and a great ability to forgive themselves and one another.” “It’s truly the Living Word…it seeks out your soul and just pierces you.” Psalms 19 - https://www.sefaria.org/Psalms.19.1-15?lang=en&with=all&lang2=en Links: The Rabbi’s Husband homepage: http://therabbishusband.com/ Mark’s Twitter: https://twitter.com/markgerson?lang=en
A mixed response to this episode, with Tash thinking the Queens are being criminally undersold so far this season and Harry thinking it was... fine? We debate who the real villain is, and how much production has gone into the villainy. We also get angry at some of the judging this week. What Harry and Tash both agree on, however, is that Shea Coulée. That's it, that's the sentence.

It’s official. Harry and Meghan have left the royal family to become financially independent. They can now "Chip and Joanna Gaines" their way into brand royalty, à la the likes of former presidential couples Barack and Michelle Obama and Bill and Hillary Clinton. And of course, the Broadcast Queen herself - Oprah. Trust me; there is a lot of money to be made off of their new role as royal brand ambassadors to themselves. In this episode - who is winning the PR battle of public opinion and why the H&M royal exit matters to you. They brought a very specific trend front and center that’s worth paying attention to. You’ll want to listen to this episode if you own or operate a business. I share some interesting generational consumer trends that are on the rise, and how to deal with change in a way that works for everyone. [1:55] The PR of it all. (#everythingisPR) Who wins the battle of public opinion? Naturally, I asked Twitter. I could guess that the younger generation was going to favor the couple while the older generation would back the Queen. Listen here to find out who won my poll and some insightful feedback from followers. [6:12] Why we shouldn’t be surprised. It’s clear they’ve been planning this for a while. From a shiny new website to working with a Hollywood level PR machine, this decision wasn’t made overnight. Find out what else the couple has had in the works over the past year to prepare that Buckingham Palace seems to have been paying very little attention to. [7:40] Reading between the lines of the official press statements. The statement from the Queen has a very personal and grateful tone, which is a stark contrast to how Buckingham Palace reacted to Princess Diana’s death. Was this new tone a lesson learned from that highly criticized reaction? Learn how you can put this lesson to use in your communication. [11:18] What Megxit means to you, the business person. In a word: Disruption. What Harry and Meghan did signaled a shift in how we have to look at our consumer. It represents the “in demand, on-demand” generation. Learn more about how this cultural shift can apply to both internal operations and demands from your customers. I’m going to help you find the balance and recognize the change, and discuss the importance of meeting someone “halfway.” [16:17] The royal social media strategy. You won’t find H&M on Twitter and you won’t find them on Facebook, and this was all very intentional. It’s all about lead generation and funneling the right people to the right place. These platforms also let them step away a bit, as opposed to a platform like Facebook. Learn more about the thought process behind keeping communication on Instagram and their website only.
