Coming up on this week's episode, the story of Operation Varsity Blues. An FBI investigation into a criminal conspiracy to influence undergraduate admissions at American colleges. It is estimated that more than $25 million exchanged hands between thirty three parents – including actors Lori Laughlin and Felicity Huffman – and William Singer, a College Adminissions Coach. You have often heard me speak about risk being agnostic. That some of history's biggest monsters – Adolf Hitler, Che Guevara, Josef Stalin – they were all superb risk practitioners. But they used our discipline for the most evil of purposes. Operation Varsity Blues is a great example of the opportunity side of the risk coin, being used for malevolent intent. To gain privilege at the expense of others. On this week's episode of the Risktory Podcast, I look at how the wealthy and powerful used risk, to grasp what was not theirs to have. The Risktory Podcast is created, written, hosted and produced by Jacinthe A Galpin. All rights reserved.Bibligraphyhttps://www.monstersandcritics.com/movies/rick-singer-update-where-is-he-now-and-what-was-the-key-on-operation-varsity-blues/https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/operation-varsity-blues-detailed-timeline-192801210.htmlhttps://themilsource.com/2020/05/24/who-is-william-singer/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_college_admissions_bribery_scandal
Operation Varsity Blues was the code name given to the investigation of parents that spent millions of dollars to increase their children's chances of getting into universities like the University of Southern California. Many of the parents who were charged entered guilty pleas, but the first two to stand trial were convicted earlier this month. Patricia Hurtado covers the courts for Bloomberg News. She has been following the Varsity Blues cases since the indictments were announced more than two years ago. She says the convicted parents may have a strong case at the appellate level. One of their arguments will likely be that they didn't receive a fair trial because the man who orchestrated the bribery ring, William Singer, never took the stand. Hurtado joins our weekly legal news podcast, On The Merits, to talk about the significance of the Varsity Blues case and the issues that are likely to come up on appeal. Frå 1913 budde dei fast her i lange somrar fram til dei døde. Bibliotek.

Following a brief tribute to the legendary surf rock guitarist Dick Dale and some other opening comments, two-time Emmy-award winning producer and journalist JP Sottile of Newsvandal returns to discuss the Mueller Probe, the college admissions scandal, the Democrats' freshman congresswomen, rising Islamophobia in culture, and the Christchurch terror attack. The conversation begins with JP and I discussing a recent poll showing the Americans may be turning on the Mueller Probe. JP gives his take on the Mueller Probe and cautions against saying anything definitive about the report until we can see it. Additionally, we discuss how disastrous the Mueller Probe could end up being for the Democrats in the 2020 elections, Glenn Greenwald's infamous criticisms of Russiagate, if it does not deliver the goods on Russian collusion. We then segue into the topic of what could be called "The New Gilded Age" in which wealth inequality and the rigging of the system for the mega-rich continues to grow. In particular, JP and I cover the college admissions scandal that has ensnared celebrities like Felicity Huffman and Full House's Lori Loughlin. We discuss how this case is emblematic of the "rich people gone wild" age that we live in. JP details the main player in the case, William Singer aka "Rick". We delve into how Singer's college admissions scheme ties into branding culture and creating a side-door to get wealthy parents into prestigious colleges. We also relate how the college admissions scandal is only one of many scandals and discuss the Trump family fortune's equally sketchy background. From there we delve into the Christchurch Mosque shooting, which JP recently wrote about. We go over how the rhetoric behind the neoconservative's "War on Terror" has influenced Islamophobic sentiments. Then we delve into JP's thoughts on the shooting and what it says about the alt right's mindset and philosophy. Various countries and airlines have grounded the 737 MAX planes and there are growing calls for the FAA and the US to do the same. While we won't know what caused the crash in Ethiopia for months, Boeing is already making adjustments after the Lion Air crash by issuing a software update. Andrew Freedman, science editor at Axios, joins us to break down everything we know about these two crashes, Next, Operation Varsity Blues.
