It's incredible that they can do this major surgery and just two weeks later I am walking. I mean, I am still working hard every day to strengthen my leg, but just wow. Nevertheless, I only had two episodes in the can. And I'm struggling to stay on top of the podcast, let alone launch a Kickstarter. But the Kickstarter is designed to promote the podcast, so it makes sense to launch it as soon as possible. In this episode, I discuss the tragic collision between a Black Hawk and an American Airlines flight on January 29, 2025. While reflecting on this heartbreaking event, I address my disagreement with President Trump's attempt to politicize the tragedy by linking it to the broader debate over Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).I share my own experiences with DEI and explain why I believe it's wrong to use the victims of such a disaster as a platform for political agendas. This episode isn't about politics—it's about respecting those affected by the tragedy and resisting the temptation to turn their suffering into a talking point in an ongoing culture war

Recently, my best friend, James, and I visited the Orpheum Theatre here in Wichita, a historic venue that's been entertaining audiences since 1922. Originally, it was a vaudeville stage graced by iconic performers like Al Jolson and Harry Houdini. They still have many great shows and events, but I'd heard over the years that it was quite haunted.  So, we sat down with the Executive Director, Stacee Olden, in the heart of the theatre and talked about the spirits of this grand old theatre just waiting for their next encore. We stayed for a ghost hunt that night and didn't experience anything paranormal, but it did seem like we weren't alone during our talk about the theatre. Today, on the Grave Talks, a conversation about the historic Wichita Orpheum Theatre with executive director Stacee Olden. Count me in. Don White, A new fan from Oregon " Wolbert van Wageningen emailed: "Hi Marc, My name is Wolbert van Wageningen. I live in the North of the Netherlands. Several years ago I started listening to your Irish and Celtic Music Podcast. I liked it a lot because of all the independent music. But sometimes it was a bit too independent according to my taste. I forgot to listen regularly and it got out of sight and mind. In the meantime I started working (volunteering) at a small regional broadcasting company in my hometown of Winsum. I got the possibility to make my own programmes and one of them I titled " Highlands and Islands" a reference to Scotland of course, but also a reference to the region where I live (het Hogeland  -  Highland) and the Waddensea with small islands. Due to illness I was not able to make the show in our radiostudio, but my homestudio was good enough to make broadcastings. I started broadcasting at Mixcloud and posted my recordings there. Looking for music I discovered your Irish and Celtic Music Podcast at Mixcloud. Nice surprise! Started listening again. Thought it would be nice to reach out to you. Want to make my compliments for your shows and your perseverance in making them. Way back you were in the 100 - 200 range; now almost 700!! I promoted your show to my small group of listeners (Celtic Folk is not that big in the Netherlands) and will do so in the future. Keep up the good work! Kind regards,"

Mike Macchiarola from Olden Lane discusses NCUA-assisted credit union mergers and why we may see more of them in the near future.2. Current industry challenges:   - 10% of credit unions are now CAMEL 3, 4 or 5   - ROA is at 69 basis points, lowest in a decade (excluding COVID dip)   - 764 credit unions have zero or negative ROA   - Rising cost of funds, asset quality concerns, fee compression3. Importance of pursuing mergers while credit unions still have "self-determination" rather than waiting for NCUA to dictate terms.4. Overview of the NCUA's Merger Partner Registry and how it's used when an assisted merger is needed.5. Process for NCUA-assisted mergers:   - NCUA identifies potential acquirers from registry   - Interested credit unions sign NDA and receive bidder's package   - Acquirers evaluate opportunity under time pressure   - NCUA seeks lowest-cost alternative but considers multiple factors6. Advice for credit unions considering assisted mergers:   - Hire experienced advisors to help navigate the process   - Be prepared to make decisions with imperfect information   - Understand NCUA's preference for full mergers over purchase & assumptions7. Importance of maintaining strong capital position to be an attractive merger partner.8. Discussion of how NCUA balances cost considerations with ensuring long-term stability when selecting merger partners.Key Quote: "Don't get yourself to the place where the NCUA is dictating terms because your option set is closing. You owe it to your membership, your staff, your management team, your legacy of your institution, its brand and its community not to get there." - Mike MacchiarolaCall to Action: Credit unions considering mergers or concerned about their long-term viability should visit www.oldenlane.com to learn how Olden Lane can assist with strategic planning and merger navigation.

I have started listening you podcast for some time now, a bit by accident when I was searching for music podcasts. For a long time I've been attracted by Celtic culture, that has influenced by some way the culture of northern Portugal, where I was born. My wife, though she was born in the south of the country  -  its a small country : - )  -  also enjoys Celtic art, and suddenly our eldest son was playing Galician bag pipe, what came by a surprise because there's no tradition of instrument playing in our families. By the way, we now we live in Sintra (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sintra). Usually, I listen to you and the good music that you share during the weekend, while I take care of our garden or during my chores. About the end of Google Podcasts, there's a quite good alternative that I have been using at least for the last couple of years. Mexican Americans have often fit uncertainly into the white/non-white binary that has goverens much of American history. After Colorado, and much of the rest of the American West, became American claimed territory after the Mexican-Americna War in 1848, thousands of formerly Mexican citizens became American citizens. Flash foward a century to post-war Denver. In the spring of 1969, Mexican American students staged a walk out in protest of poor quality education, racist teachers, and school segregation - they were met by police in riot gear, to beat and arrested dozens of peaceful protestors. Denver thus became ground zero for debates over race in the American West, a city as important to conceptions of whiteness, "minority" status, and colorblindness as any place in the South. In the award winning book, Racial Uncertainties: Mexican Americans, School Desegregation, and the Making of Race in Post-Civil Rights America (U California Press, 2022), University of Utah historian Danielle Olden tracks the history of Chicano, Latinx, and Mexican American identities through Denver's history, focusing on the lead up to the 1973 Supreme Court case, Keyes v. Denver School District No. 1. Olden tracks the remarkable and complicated story of that city's Chicano, Black, and white communities through the halting process of school desegregation, and in doing so provides an explemary lesson in the social mutability of the concept of race. In this episode of With Flying Colors, host Mark Treichel and guest Mike Macchiarola, from Olden Lane, delve into strategies for passing NCUA exams and optimizing credit union operations. They discuss the roles of Olden Lane in supporting credit unions, trends in subordinated debt and M&A activities, insights from the NCUA's 2023 annual report, and the impact of the macroeconomic environment on credit unions. ABOUT THE NEW ADS IN THE PUBLIC FEED If you've been listening to the show over the last couple of weeks, you will have noticed something new to the show. Ads placed at the beginning and ending of each episode. The show has been published regularly for almost 19 years with very few ads, outside of those for my Celtic Invasion Vacations and Patreon. I'll be honest. I'm not a huge fan of advertising…or corporations in general. And I'm still deciding whether I'm gonna continue having ads in the show. The fact is that this podcast costs a decent amount to produce as I'll tell you about later. We've built something incredible here. We have a large number of Patrons of the Podcast who support this show each and every week. It's mind - blowing the amount of support this show gets. But it doesn't cover all of my expenses. And there's so much more I'd like to do to reach more Celtic music fans, which requires money. This would be one way to help us grow our podcast. So if you don't like those ads, please become a Patron of the Podcast, because they are not included in any of the Patreon shows. THANK YOU PATRONS OF THE PODCAST! You are amazing. It is because of your generosity that you get to hear so much great Celtic music each and every week. Your kindness pays for our engineer, graphic designer, Celtic Music Magazine editor, promotion of the podcast, and allows me to buy the music I play here. It also pays for my time creating the show each and every week. As a patron, you get music - only episodes before regular listeners, vote in the Celtic Top 20, stand - alone stories, and you get a private feed to listen to the show. The episode starts with a refresher in identity and access management, then introduces identity orchestration and some of the challenges it helps to address, such as integrating disparate identity management systems after company mergers or acquisitions; managing identities in situations where some of the IAM systems are unreachable; and implementing more secure identity management in legacy applications. Are you successfully managing identity security in a multi-cloud environment? Today, I'm talking about that with Eric Olden, who is the CEO and Co-Founder of Strata Identity, which is a leader in identity orchestration. Eric talks about why technology companies should be concerned with application identity modernization. He discusses how to handle identity security when operating in a multi-cloud environment.  He also talks about how to move legacy applications to the cloud while maintaining security and compatibility. And, Eric shares his thoughts about creating a strong company culture from the very beginning of the company.  He also discusses how the culture can evolve as the company grows and talks about how he's done that with the companies he built. I think you will enjoy this conversation and get some valuable insights to implement in your own business. “The most common thread throughout the startup and the enterprise experience has been how critical it is to develop a very deliberate culture.” – Eric Olden Today on the Tech Leader Talk podcast: - The importance of application identity modernization for technology companies - Developing and evolving a company's culture - Edge computing trends - Successfully moving legacy applications to the cloud  Resource: Get help solving your toughest challenge:  https://strata.io/podcast Book: Artificial Intelligence – A Guide for Thinking Humans by Melanie Mitchell - https://www.amazon.com/Artificial-Intelligence/dp/0241404835 Connect with Eric Olden: LinkedIn:  https://www.linkedin.com/in/boughtnotsold Website:  https://strata.io Thanks for listening! In this episode of the Thoughtful Entrepreneur, your host Josh Elledge speaks to the Co-Founder & CEO of Strata Identity, Eric Olden.Eric broke down the concept of identity orchestration. He explained that it falls within a new software category designed to enable organizations to maintain identity management across multiple cloud platforms consistently and automatically. This software ensures secure access to websites, applications, and data, effectively eliminating the need for manual and repetitive processes. From a user's perspective, identity orchestration often operates seamlessly in the background. For instance, when someone logs into a website using their Google ID, it exemplifies identity management. While this process may appear straightforward for individual users, complexity arises when managing identities for numerous users or a substantial workforce numbering in the thousands. This is precisely where identity orchestration steps in, simplifying the entire process and promoting interoperability.Strata Identity primarily collaborates with large enterprises like Kroger, 3M, and the State of Minnesota, managing identity for their customers, employees, and partners. Eric's experience running Oracle's security and identity division gave him insights into big enterprises' challenges in managing identity across multiple clouds. This led him to establish Strata Identity and develop software to address this issue.Strata Identity's pricing model is unique. Instead of charging based on the number of users, they focus on securing applications and the number of identity providers used. This allows organizations to pay for their needs, making the service more accessible and cost-effective.Key Points from the Episode:Introduction of Eric Olden, co-founder and CEO of Strata IdentityExplanation of identity orchestration as a new category of softwareImportance of identity orchestration in managing identity across multiple cloud platformsStrata Identity's focus on large enterprises and their experience in managing identity for customers, employees, and partnersUnique pricing model based on securing applications and number of identity providers usedBenefits of deploying Strata Identity's software, including cost savings and system upgrades without changing applicationsSpecialization in solving complex use cases, such as mergers and acquisitionsImportance of using standards like SAML or OpenID ConnectAbout Eric Olden:Eric Olden is a visionary technical leader known for his profound contributions to internet security and identity management. With a career spanning innovation in web security and cloud technology, he co-founded and served as CEO of Symplified, a pioneer in cloud identity and access management. At Symplified, Eric played a pivotal role in developing one of the earliest cloud identity management solutions and forged integrations with major cloud platforms like AWS, establishing a global cloud service for Identity and Access Management (IAM).His journey in identity management began as the CTO and co-founder of Securant/ClearTrust, where he co-authored AuthXML and contributed to its incorporation into the SAML standard, a cornerstone in modern identity management.
