La Mtra. Mónica Ivonne Hurtado, educadora en diabetes por la Federación Mexicana de Diabetes y especialista en promoción de la salud y desarrollo social, reflexiona sobre los factores que determinan la calidad de vida de la población mexicana. Explica que la salud debe entenderse como un estado de bienestar físico, mental y social, y no únicamente como la ausencia de enfermedad, por lo que resulta indispensable considerar múltiples dimensiones que influyen en el bienestar de las personas. Durante el desarrollo del programa, analiza la influencia de hábitos cotidianos como el descanso, la hidratación, la alimentación, la actividad física y el manejo de las emociones. Señala que, aunque la esperanza de vida en México se ha incrementado, este avance no siempre se ha traducido en una mejor calidad de vida, debido al aumento de enfermedades crónicas como la obesidad, la diabetes y la hipertensión desde edades cada vez más tempranas. En concordancia con lo anterior, destaca que la salud también está condicionada por factores sociales y ambientales, entre ellos el estrés, las condiciones laborales, la seguridad, el acceso a espacios para realizar actividad física y las posibilidades reales de adoptar hábitos saludables.

La Lic. Mónica Hurtado, egresada de la Licenciatura en Nutrición Humana de la Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana Unidad Xochimilco, explica el concepto de promoción de la salud y su importancia para prevenir enfermedades y mejorar la calidad de vida de la población. Señala que se trata de un proceso social y político que busca fortalecer las capacidades de las personas y las comunidades para intervenir sobre los factores que influyen en su bienestar. Este enfoque, sustentado en los principios de la Carta de Ottawa, impulsa el desarrollo de habilidades personales, la adopción de estilos de vida saludables y la implementación de políticas públicas que favorezcan entornos más saludables. In a conversation led by Regina, they talk about differences that occur as women head through menopause, the role of HRT at mitigating some of these changes and the findings from their paper looking at how hormone therapy might enhance the therapeutic effects of tirzepatide in a postmenopausal population - discussing sex related differences.Maria Daniela Hurtado Andrade, M.D., Ph.D., is from Ecuador where she completed her medical degree at the Pontifical Catholic University. Her curiosity about the causes of obesity led her to pursue doctorate-level training in Physiology and Pharmacology at the University of Florida. Her research focused on the brain's regulation of food intake. After her doctoral training, she completed Internal Medicine training at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, PA, and Endocrinology Fellowship specialty training at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. She joined Mayo Clinic Staff in 2019.Dr. Hurtado Andrade is interested in understanding obesity's pathophysiology to develop more effective therapeutic interventions. She is part of the Mayo Clinic Precision Medicine for Obesity program. This program aims at developing an individualized approach to the management of obesity and its complications with the goal of improving outcomes. To facilitate the generation of this new knowledge, she has focused her clinical and research efforts on specific populations: perimenopausal women and breast cancer survivors.
