In this episode, Clearing the FOG brings back excerpts of a discussion from November 2018 with the now-deceased Glen Ford, the co-founder and Senior Editor of Black Agenda Report, and Kevin Zeese, the co-director of Popular Resistance, about fascism in the United States. This interview covers the origin of fascism in the United States and how it was emulated by European Nations and brought to Latin America through US intervention as well as how fascism is manifest today with support by some who would consider themselves on the Left. Ford and Zeese talk about the rise of fascism in Brazil and how consent for war with Russia and aggression toward China was manufactured. They end with suggestions for what we need to do now that is just as true today as it was four years ago. For more information, visit PopularResistance.org.

We begin this episode with an announcement about a horrifying roundup of anti-racist activists by Denver-area police departments. As of the time of this recording, five organizers in Denver were being held without bond, having been snatched from their homes, parking lots, while driving, and around the city for protests held earlier this summer. They have since been released on bond, but are still facing the ludicrous charge of "kidnapping." The Party for Socialism and Liberation is demanding that that all charges be dropped. We later talk with Houston-area organizer Caleb Granger about environmental racism, abdication of responsibility for civic preparedness, and disaster capitalism following the hurricane that hit Louisiana earlier this month. Finally, we are re-airing an interview with the late Kevin Zeese, co-founder of Popular Resistance, who passed away suddenly September 6. We talked with Zeese last year about the Embassy Protection Collective, which stood in defiance of Trump's coup and assault on the Venezuelan embassy in DC.

In this episode of By Any Means Necessary, hosts Sean Blackmon and Jacquie Luqman are joined by Andrea Mérida, Campaign Manager for the Green Party's Howie Hawkins/Angela Walker presidential ticket, to discuss the 4-3 decision by the Wisconsin Supreme Court barring the Green Party from running in the state, how the mainstream media is papering over the apparent attempt at widespread voter suppression, and the recent legal victory restoring the candidacies of Green Party members and Texas. In the second segment, Sean and Jacquie are joined by Ollie Vargas, writer and journalist with Radio Kawsachun Coca, to discuss the new large-scale poll suggesting MAS presidential candidate Luis Arce could win an outright victory in the first round of Bolivia's Oct. 18th elections, what explains the lack of apparent political success by Arce's closest rival, Carlos Mesa, and how the MAS party is navigating ongoing attempts by the coup government to disqualify some of their most popular candidates amid the all-out assault on opposition. In the third segment, Sean and Jacquie are joined by Carlos Ron, Venezuela's Vice-minister of Foreign Affairs for North America and the President of the Simón Bolívar Institute, to discuss the recent launch of the Institute, and the importance of international solidarity in the historic struggle to achieve a Bolivarian Republic.Later in the show, Sean and Jacquie are joined by Brandon Sutton, host of The Discourse podcast, to talk about FBI Director Chris Wray's testimony before the House Homeland Security Committee today, the latest attempt by the FBI to prop up the long-debunked "Russiagate" myth, and how the belief that far-right candidates are more easily defeated leads to the Democratic Party elites elevating racist candidates like Donald Trump.

In this episode of By Any Means Necessary, hosts Sean Blackmon and Jacquie Luqman are joined by Jason Dzubow, an immigration attorney, partner at Dzubow & Pilcher, PLLC and blogger at www.asylumist.com, to talk about the disturbing new testimony from a whistleblower at an ICE facility in Georgia revealing an apparent effort to force detainees to undergo hysterectomies, the long history of sterilization campaigns for those deemed "undesirable" by the US government, and how efforts by ICE to crack down on protesters in DC generated a COVID-19 outbreak at a Virginia facility which has already claimed at least one life.In the second segment, Sean and Jacquie are joined by Anthony Rogers Wright, Policy Coordinator with Climate Justice Alliance, to discuss how Big Oil spent decades and millions of dollars convincing Americans to recycle plastic waste which would ultimately be discarded in landfills, how major US oil corporations work to greenwash their own reputations while guilt-tripping consumers, and why it's often so difficult to hold multinational corporations responsible for their crimes against working people. In the third segment, Sean and Jacquie are joined by Arnold August, a Montreal-based writer, journalist, lecturer, and author of several books including "Cuba U.S. Relations: Obama and Beyond," to discuss how the new shipment of Iranian crude to Venezuela demonstrates an increasing willingness to resist unilateral economic aggression, how the development may help to bring about a multipolar world, and why the heavily-armed former marine captured near Venezuela's most important oil refinery increasingly appears to be a US-backed saboteur and spy.Later in the show, Sean and Jacquie are joined by Eleanor Goldfield, a creative activist, journalist, co-host of the Common Censored podcast with Lee Camp and the filmmaker behind the new documentary “Hard Road Of Hope," to talk about the legacy late, widely-beloved activist Kevin Zeese, the right-wing attempts to shift the blame for the shooting of two Compton sherriffs by an unknown assailant onto the broader movement against police terror, and why the latest horrors exposed in ICE facilities remind us that an injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.

Welcome to the radio magazine that brings you news, commentary and analysis from a Black Left perspective. I’m Glen Ford, along with my co-host Nellie Bailey. Coming up: Is it Colin Kaepernick versus Jay-Z, or rich capitalists versus a Black movement against racist police killings? And, white supremacist gunmen have slaughtered hundreds of people in the U.S. in recent decades, prompting some to demand extra powers for the FBI. But does the Bureau really want to catch the racist bad guys? We’ll explore that issue. Three months ago, four U.S. activists were arrested for occupying the Venezuelan embassy in Washington, with the express permission of the Venezuelan government, after the Trump administration recognized the pro-coup politician Juan Guaido as that nation’s leader. The four Americans face up to a year in jail and heavy fines, if convicted. One of them is Kevin Zeese, a co-founder of Popular Resistance. We asked Zeese how the case is going.  Black Twitter has been buzzing about rapper Jay-Z’s recently announced collaboration with the owners of professional football. Jay-Z cut a deal to produce entertainment for the NFL and to consult on League racial policies. The move is widely seen as a betrayal of sidelined player Colin Kaepernick. We spoke with James Hill Jr., a writer and doctoral candidate at Northwestern University, who two years ago wrote an article for Black Agenda Report about Kaepernick and his “take a knee” initiative. Hill has some thoughts on the Jay-Z deal. The constant drumbeat of mass shootings, many of them carried out by white supremacists, has prompted some people to call for giving enhanced powers to the FBI. But civil liberties activists disagree. Chip Gibbons is with the advocacy group, Defending Human Rights and Dissent. Gibbons says the FBI has plenty of authority to investigate and cause the prosecution of violent white supremacists, but chooses not to do so.

King Downing joins Clearing the FOG for the full hour to discuss the criminal justice system, from police encounters with citizens through mass incarceration. Jean Casella of Solitary Watch joins the program to discuss the extreme form of incarceration, solitary confinement, which is very common in the Untied States, Anywhere from 80,000 to 100,000 people are held in solitary confinement on any given day in the US. Downing and Zeese discuss the Stop and Frisk program in New York which is a form of racial profiling.  There is a trial challenging the practice currently underway. Last week, two police officers described how they were ordered to target young black men ages 14 to 21. We also discuss police encounters that have resulted in the killings of young black men by undercover police.  We end the show discussing the 166 people remaining at Guantanamo Bay, 86 of whom have been cleared for release three years ago but remain incarcerated.  At least two dozen inmates at the prison are in the seventh week of a hunger strike to protest prison conditions. Witness Against Torture is holding emergency actions this week in solidarity with the Guantanamo prisoners. For more information, visit ClearingtheFOGRadio.org.
