Darkhan Studios, LLC - Quinn Johnson, Robert Atkins, Troy Johnson
Quinn and Robert get down to business with a great Picks of the Week episode. In addition to IDW's smash hit "My Little Pony" comic book debut, the dudes discuss Weebly.com, "Danger Girl / G.I. Joe," "Ghostbusters," and even cult favorite "Miami Connection." And don't forget that issue #1 of "Elders of the RuneStone" is officially available for download at ArtistAlleyComics.com! Happy Holidays from the Pantyhose Ninjas!
Guest Pantyhose Ninja Elaine Atkins Manley joins Quinn and Robert for a round of Picks of the Week! In addition to shout-outs for "Warrior," "Young Justice," "Wrath of the Titans," and other awesomeness, Elaine gives an in-depth review of the recent "New 52" Batman story arc, "Batman: Court of Owls." If we share, there's certainly enough pantyhose for all of us.
Sometimes it's difficult to record episodes on a regular basis because producing comic books is crazy work. In those cases, we steal other podcasts and play them as our own. Like this one: Quinn and Robert were recently interviewed on the "Star Joes" Podcast with Chuck and Ryan, where they talked all about "Elders of the RuneStone" and even got to discuss their "TMNT" love. Sonic Boom!
We're not sure how this keeps happening, but Ben showed up to host along with Robert and Quinn again. Luckily, he doesn't entirely ruin the dudes' "The Dark Knight Rises" spoiler-filled review. With a brand new segment, the return of old favorites, and one more surprise special guest, this episode will have you exacting vigilante justice in no time!
No longer content with only two hosts for these episodes, Quinn and Robert scrape the bottom of the barrel and find podcast nemesis Ben Johnson to join them. Along with their thoughts on the recently released "The Amazing Spider-Man," the dudes also discuss "Tron: Uprising," Quinn's unexpected boost in fame, and the fate of upcoming-yet-delayed blockbuster films. Don't expect too much from these guys, though.
Somehow, Quinn and Robert manage to keep from being long-winded in their praise for several awesome properties and productions. Besides plugging "Avatar: The Legend of Korra," "Snow White and the Huntsman," and other coolness, they host (and welcome further) discussion about the enduring nature of childhood entertainment. It's "Adventure Time"!
If you haven't seen "The Avengers" yet, here's our review: It is incredible! And awesome. Go see it. This episode is loaded with spoilers, as it is more of a discussion about what made the movie so great--from plot points to the tiniest cameos and hilarious moments. In other words, the Pantyhose Ninjas hold back very little in speaking of why "The Avengers" is the perfect culmination of the previous years' summer films. Avenge it!
Dreams come true! Thanks to all our amazing fans, followers, and friends and to the genius of Kickstarter.com, Elders of the RuneStone is on its way to full production and release! With fellow SCAD alumnus and successful Kickstarter.com beneficiary Bryan Tillman, the Pantyhose Ninjas discuss how to make Kickstarter.com work for you. Now THAT's better than eight simultaneous Chuck Norris boots to the face.
This follow-up episode hits you right in the ear with Part II of our interview with video game designer and artist Alan Tew (check out episode #79 for Part I)! Alan gives tips on how to improve your skills in both art and game design, as well as how to network professionally. It all concludes with a discussion on games that inspired him with bold and polished design. What we didn't expect was a surprise visit from Jet Li...
With Troy subbing for Robert, the Pantyhose Ninjas hold their first video games industry interview with veteran artist and designer Alan Tew! In addition to discussing his work on "Van Helsing," "Chicken Little," an unannounced Disney project and more, Alan reveals his philosophies on comics art, storytelling, and how video game experiences are far more than the sum of their parts. Happy Valentine's Day!
Happy New Year! First off, Quinn and Robert bid a fond farewell to 2011 as they discuss the last of its blockbuster movies: "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" and "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol." Then, to ring in the new, they build up the hype for 2012's announced action films. Just don't let the ninja juice your fruits.
Please welcome Brian Atkins to the microphone, brother to Robert and fellow artist, as this week's guest host! He joins Quinn and Robert as they discuss the upcoming "The Dark Knight Rises" and review the recently released "Batman Year One" animated film. With such a focused theme, you'll be happy that another Swift Kick adds some variety. And some hospital visits.
Quinn and Robert are at it again with mini reviews of "Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell," "Avenging Spider-Man," "Be Kind Rewind," and "Science Dog." Besides the reviews, we've got horror anecdotes and a podcast friend shout-out to boot! What kind of facial hair does Chuck Norris allow YOU to keep?
In this “spooky-scary” episode, Robert provides a return to the Comic Nook with reviews of Marvel’s “Avengers Prime” and DC’s universe relaunch. Plus, get “Swift-Kicked,” and hear a brand-spankin’-new “Good Idea, Bad Idea”! Happy Halloween!
Quinn and Robert combine their powers for another “Picks of the Week” episode! “Troll Hunter,” “Aquaman,” “12 Angry Men,” and “Invincible” await you--all in under 33 minutes! Now THAT’s impressive.
After the longest episode delay yet, the Pantyhose Ninjas have finally escaped Techno-Diffitron’s clutches and are ready for action once again! While Troy is tied up on his honeymoon in Hawaii, Quinn, Robert, and a “swift-kicking” surprise guest hold a retrospective on two of summer’s final comic book flicks: “Captain America” and “Cowboys & Aliens.” HO-O-O-O!
We’re back! After a six-week hiatus, the Pantyhose Ninjas explode into action with a discussion about J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series, focusing on the recently released movie “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.” In addition, Ye Olde Mail Bag contains revelations from the future, and Troy gives a big announcement!
As you can expect from the title of this episode, Quinn and Robert suggest a fair number of properties as their “Picks of the Week.” From a discussion of how “Green Lantern” is faring at the box office to the voice actor behind He-Man and TMNT favorite Leonardo, this episode has a little something for everyone. Even Skeletor would be proud.
The Pantyhose Ninjas’ mutant power would be the ability to overuse redundant praises. That is far less cool than the effects on display in the newly released “X-Men: First Class.” Listen in as Quinn and Robert review and discuss the movie-- from the acting to the costumes to the conflict between mutants and men. Don’t forget your cast iron cup!
The Pantyhose Ninjas weigh in on Superman’s recent citizenship decision, then suggest checking out “The Girl Who Leapt Through Time,” “The Rocketeer,” and BBC’s “Sherlock.” What they don’t suggest is wearing nothing but a bathrobe while another of Ben’s “Swift Kicks” is lurking about.
Once again, the Pantyhose Ninjas rattle off a few of their recent favorite ways to spend an afternoon. Come for the mini reviews of Marvel’s “Fear Itself,” Miyazaki films, “Portal 2,” “Death Battles,” and more. Stay for the soul-crushing brutality of Ben’s latest “A Swift Kick to Ye Olde Maile Bagge”; it’s sure to give you a case of the floppies.
Robert and Quinn chat with Cartoon Network and Adult Swim alum Merrill Hagan. As a writer, producer, and director, Merrill has worked on such awesomeness as “Teen Titans,” “Harvey Birdman,” and “Robot Chicken.” Besides his particular works, Merrill also gives valuable tips and advice for landing a career in entertainment media (not to mention his ideas for a gritty re-boot of “Inspector Gadget”).
In celebration of the one day each year during which it’s completely acceptable to embarrass, lie, or otherwise do mental and emotional damage to others, the Pantyhose Ninjas (and Ben) treat you to another “A Swift Kick to Ye Olde Maile Bagge” along with their “Picks of the Week.” (Caution: Partial male nudity may or may not be mentioned in this episode.)
In another episode based around just chatting about cool stuff, Robert and Quinn dig into the past for their “Picks of the Week.” Also, meet this week’s special guest, Emma Atkins--she doesn’t say much, but she sure is a cutie.
Though they may be a couple weeks late to the party, the Pantyhose Ninjas still want to weigh in with their thoughts on “Marvel vs. Capcom 3.” Beyond that, listen in for Troy’s attempt after inappropriate attempt at another edition of “Quote of the Week.” M.O.D.O.K. ...harumph.
The Pantyhose Ninjas take a slightly more casual approach to this episode (is that even possible?) as they ramble about awesome stuff you should check out. How is this any different? Well, these intermittent casual episodes may just end up replacing the “Picks of the Week” segments in future standard episodes. Let us know what you think! P.S. Despite Quinn’s claim that he’ll “be brief” about the cool stuff he mentions, well...you probably know how that will turn out...
The Pantyhose Ninjas shoot the breeze with up-and-coming comics-colorist-extraordinaire (perhaps “colourist” is more appropriate in this case) Simon Gough! Simon reveals his origin story (comics industry reference, FTW!), his artistic techniques, and what it takes to break in professionally. Are you ready to be the belle of the ball?
A lot has happened in the video games industry over the past few years, and 2010 was no exception in the trend. Join the Pantyhose Ninjas as they discuss the recent highlights and developments of video gaming--but don't forget to endure the return of A Swift Kick to Ye Olde Maile Bagge! Aaaauuugh...
2010 was a year full of awesome entertainment productions, new releases, and general news. Just in case you missed any of it, the Pantyhose Ninjas have taken it upon themselves to give you one-minute-or-less reviews on everything that they could possibly fit in under an hour. How's that for efficiency?
Rebekah Isaacs returns for the final awesome episode of 2010! Gain new insight as the crew discusses the unique details of and differences between individual creators' comics art production processes. Also, witness the glorious return of Ye Olde Mail Bag, Good Idea Bad Idea (three of them!), and Picks of the Week. It's a Christmas miracle!
The Pantyhose Ninjas once again welcome Gabe Ostley to the DCACCP, this time for an in-depth discussion on effective methods of self-marketing and promotion. Today's tips will help creative minds share their work through any avenue, from social networking sites to conventions to online art forums. This ain't no poppycock!
Quinn and Robert catch up with an old friend from their college days in this fantastic interview with Hong Kong resident and comics artist extraordinaire Gabe Ostley! Find out how Gabe first became interested in comics, the best skills he learned at art college, and how he came to be the artist for such titles as "The Hammer" and "Kung Fu Monkeyface." Awesome!
Have you ever wanted to be a "Super Spy"? Well, Matt Kindt's "The Lost Dossiers" might be just what you need! Listen in as Quinn and Robert review and discuss this companion book to Kindt's award-winning graphic novel. Also discover just how hard Chuck Norris rocks the political boat. Sweaty!
Guess what, kids?! School is good for you--just ask Rebekah Isaacs, professional comics artist and fellow Savannah College of Art and Design alum. Listen in as Robert and Quinn shoot the breeze with Rebekah, touching on everything from her time in Japan to her published works and the upcoming productions she has a personal stake in...and whether or not she likes the "TMNT." Happy Halloween!
Join Quinn and Robert for the conclusion of our incredibly insightful interview with Scott Allie, senior managing editor for Dark Horse Comics. In addition to details on a few new books from Dark Horse, the horror comics guru also offers tips for honing your creative skills and getting yourself noticed by seasoned professionals...just in time for Halloween! Got your costume ready?
Quinn and Robert make their best attempts to infuse some soul into this episode with a sensational review of the comic book, "Black Panther: Bad Mutha." If that's not enough for you, then stick around to hear what all the hype for "Batman: Under the Red Hood" is about. I can fly TWICE as high!
Dark Horse Comics is the best in the industry when it comes to horror books, and nobody knows what it takes to create something truly frightening like Senior Managing Editor Scott Allie does. In Part I of our interview, Scott tells his story and offers some great previews on Dark Horse's upcoming killer productions. Sweet!
It's been a few week since "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World" released in theaters and on game consoles--just enough time for us to recover from the explosion of awesomeness that we experienced. Bottom line: Go see the movie and play the game. Now. For a detailed review (and the usual smattering of other radness), listen today! Butt-kicking for all!
Some dream of love, some of power, some of giant ticks infesting our neighborhoods. This episode, the Pantyhose Ninjas discuss all things dreamy, including the ins-and-outs of Christopher Nolan's dream-themed blockbuster "Inception." Yeah, we're a little late...we got distracted by the internet.
San Diego International Comic Con is a massive affair. The sheer amount of upcoming entertainment reveals and general awesomeness is staggering (as is the number of dudes in Slave Leia costumes...). In this SDCC 2010 recap, we discuss what made this year's show stand out and review some choice news that you might have missed. Innocent laugh AND style!
San Diego Comic-Con comes but once a year, so listen in for tips on how to make the most of your experience while you're there. Robert dishes out advice on what tools you'll need to produce top-notch pencil art, as well as how to best spend your time and effort at the show. Chafing!
Rarely do the Pantyhose Ninjas discuss a production that is NOT awesome. If, however, such a creation is an adaptation of a property that IS awesome, it is our responsibility to warn you not to fall into its trap. Enter M. Night Shyamalan's "The Last Airbender." Oh well. At least we've got another childish word of the day to help cheer you.
With Robert missing, Quinn and Troy are free to push the censor boundaries to their limits. As part of their foul play, they offer their unbridled opinions on the newly released "Sin and Punishment: Star Successor" for Nintendo's Wii console. Plus, they make a lot of terrible jokes (but you're used to that). Oh, this is sinful!
Even without Troy, Robert and Quinn manage to put together a fantastically informative episode. After giving you (somewhat) unsightly rashes with the usual fixin's, Robert goes in-depth about the recent Heroes Con, from his own experience to tips for making the most of your professional convention adventure. Rock your body!
A good videogame movie released alongside a (related) good videogame? Holy crap! It's actually happening! Listen in for the Pantyhose Ninjas' reviews of both "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" and "PoP: The Forgotten Sands." Lunges!
To begin, the Pantyhose Ninjas get personal as they divulge their votes for "things that must go." The downward spiral continues with the expected rants of "A Swift Kick to Ye Olde Maile Bagge." To save the show, however, the main attraction is the final segment of the interview with Andy Schmidt, senior editor of IDW Publishing. Enthusiasm!
While debatably insignificant, the Pantyhose Ninjas also discuss things other than Chuck Norris in this episode. For example: "Titans," "Real American Hero(es)," and slapping people in the face. But let's be honest--our review of "The Official Chuck Norris Fact Book" and a Chuck-themed "Chop-Saki Justice" steal the show. Or perhaps roundhouse kick it.
We all have frustrations in life--some more or less dramatic than those of our associates--so take a load off by tuning into the second part of our interview with Andy Schmidt, senior editor of IDW Publishing! Find out what's in store for the "G.I. Joe" comic book series as he graciously answers questions from devoted fans. Pour some talcum on me!
Fulfill your desires with our review of the jive-talkin', tall-walkin', comic-shop-stockin' graphic masterpiece "Afrodisiac"! But there's more! Does "Axe Cop" pray? You bet he does! Throw Satan into the lake of fire!
Please make welcome Andy Schmidt, senior editor of IDW Publishing and one of the main minds behind such comic book series as "G.I. Joe" and "Transformers"! Learn valuable tips to becoming a successful comics editor in the first installment of our three-part interview series with Mr. Schmidt. This jive mother is OUTTA SIGHT!
Having recently acquired a very special sponsor, the DCACCP will now focus on sensitive, touching, and otherwise boring things. So listen in! We've got a little something for everyone, including references to Oprah, a brief e-mail interview with Christopher Nolan, and more house pets wearing sweaters than you can shake a stick at. How adorable!
