In this episode, Jill interviews Ohanga featured artist: Robert Chas. Robert is a watercolorist based in Matunuck, RI. Robert's web site is Robert Chase Gallery. With Robert's own words "Watercolor painting to me is a beautiful way to capture people and places at a particular place in time and being able to share it with others. My interest is in painting people and places doing everyday things; swimming, boating, fishing, wildlife habitats with a “paintbrush of color”! If I can make one person smile and feel that living here in southern New England is a blessing….for everywhere I look there are wonderful sights to see and paint…then my art holds meaning."

KOOL & THE GANG HISTORY LESSON WITH ROBERT 'KOOL' BELL Lara Avetoom interviews the legendary lead member of 'KOOL & THE GANG' Robert 'Kool' Bell.Formed as a jazz ensemble in the mid-'60s, Kool & the Gang became one of the most inspired and influential funk units during the '70s, and one of the most popular R&B groups of the '80s after their breakout hit "Celebration" in 1979. Just as funky as James Brown or Parliament (and sampled almost as frequently), Kool & the Gang relied on their jazz backgrounds and long friendship to form a tightly knit group with the interplay and improvisation of a jazz outfit, plus the energy and spark of a band with equal ties to soul, R&B, and funk. Robert "Kool" Bell and his brother Ronald (or Khalis Bayyan) grew up in Jersey City, NJ, and picked up the music bug from their father. A professional boxer, he was also a serious jazz lover and a close friend of Thelonious Monk. With Robert on bass and Ronald picking up an array of horns, the duo formed the Jazziacs in 1964 with several neighborhood friends: trombone player Clifford Adams, guitarists Charles Smith and Woody Sparrow, trumpeter Robert "Spike" Michens, alto saxophonist Dennis Thomas, keyboard player Ricky West, and drummer Funky George Brown (all of whom, except Michens and West, still remained in the group more than 30 years later).
Financial advising is a profession that draws in an eclectic mix of individuals who come from different backgrounds and whose career paths haven’t always been straightforward and predictable. Today’s guest formerly served in the military as a forensic accountant; now he not only runs his own financial practice, he’s also the world’s first (and probably only) forensic accountant blockchain professional. He joins the show to share what he’s learned from his military experience that has helped him serve his clients and grow his practice on referrals alone. Robert Watterson is the owner of Watterson Financial Solutions, a firm that handles financial planning, accounting, compliance, insurance, asset protection and tax services. Listen to hear what Robert has to say about how working in forensic accounting informs his current work, how he remains focused with so many different areas of practice, and how his interest in blockchain technology helped him develop an audit-ready bookkeeping system. What You’ll Learn in This Episode: How Robert moved from military forensic accountant to advisor (5:00) How his military experience informs the way he acquires clients (9:10) Staying focused while providing different offerings (18:40) How the different parts of Robert’s business build on one another (21:40) The blockchain’s impact on the financial industry (23:40) Robert’s audit-ready bookkeeping system (30:30) Robert’s biggest challenge in growing his practice (35:10) Why service is the most important part of running a practice (38:00) Links and Resources: Watterson Financial Send Robert an email Quotes by Robert: “In the military, one of the things that they taught us was never look for what’s good for you; look for what’s good for the overall project you’re working on. And if you’re working with a client, that means the overall good for the client.” “Make yourself referable… If you are referable, they will come back to you for work or they will have somebody come to you for work.” “If you don’t worry about making money off every client, the client will worry about making sure you make money.” With Robert’s different interests and areas of expertise – forensic accounting, blockchain technology, compliance and financial planning – it can be difficult to see how everything fits together. And yet, he’s able to pull knowledge and skills from different areas to create a unique practice in a way that we can all learn from. Welcome to the very last episode of the year, and the decade. With Robert in Ghana, it's the heavy hitters reporting for duty joined by the absolutely lovely and incredibly insightful Jemz. Sorry not sorry was a bit of a wild West situation with everyone taking a turn in the hot seat! With the decade nearly over, instead of just looking at the next year, or decade as we normally would around this time, we chose to look at what we want our legacies to be. We especially considered how this would flesh out for our kids and it was indeed some very reflective conversation. Of course, in talking about leaving something behind we couldn't leave the episode without leaving some final hookups. Jems wanted to leave you all with the thought to write a letter, the gesture, she's found, can be a refreshing reminder to folk that you care and can take the time to dedicate some thought to them! So write someone a letter soon! Mo suggested checking a old favourite of the podcast, Khalil Gibran's The Prophet, definitely a piece of his incredible legacy this has been a book that's certainly affected a lot of us. Check it out here The Prophet [https://g.co/kgs/etzadw](https://g.co/kgs/etzadw) And in speaking about books that have affected us, Peter suggested, again, commiting to reading the entire Bible again next year with one of the podcasts from. The Daily Audio Bible community, it'll be his second year in a row going through the entire Bible and with a new year beginning it's a perfect opportunity to subscribe to one of their various themes and spend a little time in the Bible each day for the next year Check it out here https://dailyaudiobible.com/ We hope you enjoy the episode and if you do please let us know in the comments and let your friends know by sharing, and if you don't, please let us know in the comments and let your friends know by sharing. “What’s With Robert?” (January 10, 2000) Drew had never seen an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond before Glen pulled a gun on him and forced him to watch this one. To Drew’s surprise, this ostensibly family-friendly CBS sitcom handles gay panic a lot more thoughtfully than other shows of the era, even if it hinged around the ridiculous proposition that a man as tall as Brad Garrett might be homosexual. Mark Zeff: Interior Design Hall of Fame Today in The Lounge, Nick interviews Mark Zeff, a recently inducted member of the Interior Designers Hall of Fame. Mark tells us how he got started in interior design and how moving to New York was the best business decision he's ever made. Find out on the episode how he has created a full-service firm, from branding all the way to designing fabrics. Getting to Know Mark Mark was born in Johannesburg, South Africa and moved to Cape Town at the age of five. He attended University in London and moved to Australia after finishing school. Soon after, Mark decided that New York is where he really wanted to be. His favorite vacation spot is Bay Beach in the Hamptons and this is where the inspiration for his New York shop came from. When Mark is asked beer, wine or cocktail, he responds “definitely a cocktail.” How Mark Got His Start Mark first became interested in interior design when he attended an industrial design school in Johannesburg. He soon found that interior design wasn't enough, he wanted to be an architect. Mark loved art and machinery so architecture was the perfect career to marry the two together. He landed a job at a firm in Sydney but New York seemed like the place to be in the 80s. So, Mark took off to NY in 1982 to have a little fun. Three weeks later he was out of money, called Ken Walker up on a whim and got a job with him the following week. Ken Walker worked with some of the largest retailers in the industry such as Bloomingdales and Macy's and the firm had 300 people working for it. Mark's first big project was with designing a toy store. Later he was invited to work with Ken's product development team. After 2 and a half years with Ken, Mark went to work for Robert Gerson, whose firm specialized in industrial design. With Robert, Mark worked on the control center at NASA as well as on the machines. While working there he met some people who asked him to design their fashion showrooms. That's when Mark left to start his own firm in the late 1980s. The Business Today Mark runs his business from Dumbo, ‘Down Under theManhattan Bridge Overpass,” in New York. He fell in love with the interior of this 1920s building and converted it into his studio and store. Over the years Mark's firm has had various employees, but now he staffs only about 25-30 people with backgrounds in branding, interior design, and architecture. They work all over in the industry including on homes, restaurants, condos, spas, rental units, townhomes, and apartments. Mark loves working all over and having a small firm. They do about 20 projects a year and some projects can last between eight months to three years. Branding is one of Mark's passions. At fourteen he wanted to be a graphic designer so he looks at the world through a graphic eye. Mark runs a business that services everything you need designing furniture to fabrics and wallpaper. He uses branding as a huge tool in his business. When Mark first started his firm he began by doing residential projects. The jobs he got were from people he met in nightclubs. His first big job was with Ann Baton, who came from a wealthy family and hung out with Andy Warhol. His transition to commercial design was by opening up a furniture store, that was similar to Design Within Reach. He imported furniture from Germany and Italy and also started designing his own furniture collection. A hotel business took notice and wanted to partner up with him. Mark's first restaurant was the Red Cat on 23rd street. Later he worked on the Night Hotel, which really put him the map as a commercial designer. No else had done this kind of project before and to this day it is still called the sexiest hotel in New York City. Mark opened a store in the 90s called Zeff Style but closed it after 9/11. He knew he wanted to open up another store again, so he gave a try in Brooklyn. BLACKBARN's brand is to develop a home brand that has soul.

Chef Robert has become a tradition here at DiabetesPowerShow, and once again, he is going to help us get through the Holiday Season, avoiding those extreme high blood sugars that often ruin our holiday fun. The Good Chef has lots of great advice, that will keep us off the blood sugar roller coaster, so we can enjoy our family and friends during this wonderful time of year. He is a Chef, Author, Speaker and a Person Living with Diabetes. Growing up in Los Angeles offered Chef Robert a culinary experience he will always cherish. Chef Robert graduated from the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in 1976. In 1998, he was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Thus began his motivation to create great tasting dishes, that are easy to prepare. Much of what he heard in those early days was about the foods that were prohibited. He suspected that his days of good eating were over. This motivated him to attempt to create delicious, diabetic-friendly dishes that were also easy to prepare. Chef Robert is a nationally-recognized author, public speaker, and spokesperson for all people affected with diabetes. He travels the country speaking on the benefits of healthy eating, not only for people affected with diabetes, but also for anyone who would like to eat and live a healthy lifestyle. With Robert missing, Quinn and Troy are free to push the censor boundaries to their limits. Plus, they make a lot of terrible jokes (but you're used to that). Oh, this is sinful!
