    Ivy Insights

The Diary of a Mad Black Man podcast is an incredibly engaging and thought-provoking show that tackles topics that society often shies away from. Hosted by Blake, this podcast delves into various subjects, with a particular focus on mental health, especially within the black community. From the very first episode, I was captivated and found myself smiling along as I listened to each episode unfold.

One of the best aspects of The Diary of a Mad Black Man podcast is Blake's honesty and authenticity. He fearlessly discusses topics that many people are too afraid to address openly. His passion for mental health shines through in every episode, particularly in his focus on addressing the struggles faced by black men in this regard. It is refreshing to hear someone be so open and real about their own experiences, which creates a relatable connection with the audience.

The conversations facilitated by Blake are enlightening and educational. Each episode provides valuable insights and promotes personal growth. One standout episode for me was "Side Effects of being a dream chaser," where Blake offers sage advice such as "try getting rejected more" and encourages listeners to take responsibility for their own health and happiness. The show also delves into topics like digital presence and its impact on one's professional life, providing valuable nuggets of wisdom throughout.

While it is difficult to find any significant flaws in The Diary of a Mad Black Man podcast, one potential downside is that there may not be enough episodes available to binge-listen if you discover the show later on. However, this can also be seen as a positive since it leaves you eagerly anticipating future seasons while giving you time to reflect on past episodes.

In conclusion, The Diary of a Mad Black Man podcast is an absolute must-listen for anyone seeking honest conversations about mental health and personal growth. Blake's openness, along with his ability to create meaningful dialogue around important issues, makes this podcast truly exceptional. Whether you are looking for inspiration, relatable stories, or advice on navigating life's challenges, this podcast is a valuable resource that deserves your time and attention.

In this diary entry, I discuss accepting the difference between relatives and family. Having been in Chicago recently, I've learned that there are certain people who know how to love unconditionally and others that don't. I've been rejected and neglected by relatives, but loved and embraced by family. A recent lesson learned: learn what you can and cannot control. you cannot control people, places or most things. But you can control who you show up for, where you show up, and the things you allow in your space. Sometimes, even people who claim to love you will not go out there way to help you. It's really me, God & the universe in this thing called life… --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/diaryofamadblackman/message

Cheers to 3 years of podcasting. This has been a journey that I feel so many emotions about ending. I found hope, lost hope and found it again over the past 3 years. In this moment, I still do not have it all together, and honestly, I am not sure if I ever will. However, I am glad that I was able to tell my story. I just hope someone else finds the ability to overcome and find a way to live with their mental health and wellness challenges. I may not be the change that makes a great impact on the world, but I hope to be the spark that ignites a flame of change. I'm tired, still challenged and I do not know what the future holds. I know the best thing for me to do is to end this and move on. Thank you for listening, -Blake --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/diaryofamadblackman/message

I recorded this episode 3 days after my birthday. I had been recording daily diary entries of me just unpacking my thoughts and this is one of the earlier entries. In this diary entry, I recognize a friend & our friendship no longer existed in the capacity it once did. I grieved the loss of a really good friend, someone I trusted, loved, confided in, and found real friendship with. I will always respect when someone is honest and truthful with you; yet the loss of a friendship hurts like death, because it is. the death of a friendship. And as they say... truth hurts. What I've learned here is you want to always check in with someone before you emotionally dump or unpack your thoughts with somone. Even if said person has expressed they are open to being a listening ear, you should ALWAYS ask for permission. Some example phrases are: "do you have the emotional space to hear this?" "can I share something with you that may be triggering? "do you have the mental bandwith for me to share something with you?" "you feel like hearing this bullshit?" "can i tell you what I've been going through for real? you cool with me unpacking this with you? Asking for permission is simultaneously protecting you and the other person's mental health. Creating a safe space for unpacking whatever you may share is an important step in the healing process. It also giving the other person the opportunity to check in with themselves, to be sure they are best prepared to listen, hear you, & support you. Thanks for listening... After listening, you'll have a better understanding of why its important to put yourself first and believe in you; trusting and believe that everything will be alright. It can be tough to make decisions in life that you NEED to do, especially when they are not what you WANT to do. Recently I have had to make decisions that are best for my mental health, although I did not want to make them deep down inside. As important as money is to my life and mental wellness, my mental wellness still takes a priority over money and anything else. It's literarily a matter of life or death for me if I don't. Life got hands bro, and I'm tired of fighting… it seems like the more I push forward, the harder and more difficult life becomes. I was at the top of the mountain a few weeks ago; energized, motivated and inspired. The opposite of that is now my reality; I feel like I'm at the bottom, once again, of the lowest valley and it's very dark down here. This journey to wellness started long before this podcast; The thoughts, behaviors and feelings I thought I had a handle on, are showing up in a way that shows, I really don't. I need help. I'm dealing with some serious mental health issues & no one around me seems to understand. Nor is anyone around me capable of helping. People lack the skills to actually support someone like myself. I'm Lowkey in a crisis right now and it really hurts. Slick, not gunna lie, I'm scared. All people say is “push through,” “It will get better” “Your so strong” … And all the cliche “just be happy & positive” shit people say to someone who is depressed. I'm sick and tired. I often feel betrayed by my community, and often times my family, for not being what I need. I'm more angry with myself for not being able to get ahold of this shit sooner because my challenges are amplified by the results of my own actions and poor decisions. At this point, I'm 31 years old and this is my responsibility to deal with. I find myself very angry lately… with aggressive, hostile thoughts. My irritation level is very high. I find myself doing self destructive things; and it's difficult to do the day to day tasks of life like cooking, cleaning up and getting out of bed. My therapy sessions are not consistent enough; it sucks because I also don't have insurance and cannot afford therapy. I went so hard for all of this over the past few years because I see the vision what this will be and I believe it will come; But at the end of the day, I have to survive all this shit to see that vision come to reality. I often feel like I'm crying out for help snd no one is listening. Life happens so fast and at this point, I can't keep just reacting out of desperation to survive. I gotta try something new; and while I figure this out, I'll be taking a major step away while I figure out what's next. You'd think I'd be going hard right now but the reality of my life right now is, I need help. I literally cannot keep working myself this fucking hard to build and create something. & no one is going to help or save me but ME. So I have to truly go at my own pace and do what is best for me. Over the past week, I find myself irritated when people say positive things like “you'll get through it, things will get better, it won't last long,” and to be quite honest, I'm tired of hearing that shit. I been challenged with this long before this podcast, it's been over 10 years; hell the majority of my life. Talking is only doing so much right now. I need to take action. Unfortunately, I know I have to take action alone. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/diaryofamadblackman/message
