In this episode I share strategies for navigating the frenzy of social media these days. There is so much fear, anger and negativity throughout almost every thread I read. We must learn how to manage our minds effectively so we can stay in leadership energy and have a ripple effect on the people around us.I also talk about a podcast I recently listened to called the Hidden Brain. They did a Wellness Series 2.0 and in it an episode called When It's All to Much. The host, Shankar Vedantam, interviewed an educator and researcher named Sarah Jaquette Ray about the impact of overwhelm, hopelessness, and despair on student's in her class who were learning about climate change from her. I couldn't help but notice the similarity to how many American's are feeling right now about politics. I love what she concluded from her research and will give you a hint that it might have something to do with the name of my podcast:) I'm sharing the link to this episode here.https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/wellness-2-0-when-its-all-too-much/id1028908750?i=1000684745656We must stop getting so easily triggered and falling into hopelessness and despair about the state of our world. Host: Darryl S. Chutka, M.D. Guest: Tara Schmidt, RDN, LD It's not uncommon to gain a pound or two each year as we get older. For many, most of our annual weight gain occurs during the holidays. It's a time of celebration and is filled with parties and events, often with high calorie foods and drinks. Holidays can also be stressful, and many find some relief of stress by eating. Weight gain during the holidays occurs so easily and quickly, yet losing this weight can be quite challenging and can take months. In fact, some studies have shown that weight put on during the holidays never comes off. How do we deal with the abundance of food we're exposed to over the holidays? How should we approach holiday parties? How can we avoid contributing to the problem when we bring food to holiday events? With the holidays approaching, today's podcast is directed at our own personal health in our “Holiday Stress and Wellness Series” as we discuss “How to Avoid Gaining Weight During the Holidays.” My guest for this podcast is registered dietician and nutritionist Tara Schmidt, RDN, LD, from the Mayo Clinic. Check out our guest's podcast, “Mayo Clinic on Nutrition” Here https://mcpress.mayoclinic.org/podcasts/on-nutrition/ Connect with the Mayo Clinic's School of Continuous Professional Development online at https://ce.mayo.edu/ or on Twitter @MayoMedEd.

Many allergens are in your home so be sure to clean your carpets, rugs, floors and curtains regularly. A HEPA vacuum cleaner can help as it has a special filter to trap very fine dust and allergen particles. Reduce Clutter. There could be places in your home where dust, pet dander and other things are collecting. Reducing the unnecessary items can lessen the amount of hard-to-reach places dust can collect. Wash your sheets and liners. Wash your linens weekly with hot water to keep down pet dander and dust mites. Use air and window filters. This extra layer of protection can screen out dust and pollen. Reduce mold. Clean your shower curtains, trash cans, and damp areas with a mix of water and chlorine bleach. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/keisha-blair/support

Coaches Jess and Melissa are back with the third and final episode in their Women's Wellness Series. Jess, Mindset and Wellness coach for YogiTriathlete, has practiced and educated others on the ancient sciences of yoga (the mind) and ayurveda (optimal health) for decades. Melissa, Herbalist and Triathlon/Running Coach for Team YogiTriathlete, trains and races while supporting herself and her athletes with herbal medicine and wellness practices. Their inspiration to begin this series was to serve and spread the good word about what remains a mystery on a mass level. Many have lived decades navigating hormonal imbalances, cramps, cycles, and symptoms without a community, but now we have one. These episodes are important for women and their partners to better understand the full scope of the feminine entity. Today, based on feedback and some questions, the coaches dive in a bit more on the cycle from an Ayurvedic standpoint and also talk about support throughout the decades of our lives. Thank you for tuning in, and please help others find the show by leaving a review on your favorite place to listen. This month on the Amplify Good podcast, Aria continues her conversation with our guests around wellness. Let's take a brief look here at the organizations our guests are involved in! Common Ground Health: Located in Rochester, N.Y., Common Ground is the health research and planning organization for the nine Finger Lakes counties of Chemung, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Wayne and Yates. But our influence extends well beyond those borders. In recent years, we have provided support for clinical practices and other population health groups across the state. Research and analysis are at the heart of community health improvement. Common Ground maintains the region's most comprehensive collection of health and health care data and provides the expertise needed to make sense of that information. We document trends and measure progress for partners and the region as a whole. We drill down into the data to understand and bring attention to health inequities based on geography, socio-economic status, race and ethnicity. With a team of more than 35 analysts, clinicians, policy experts, community engagement specialists and other staff, Common Ground has built the capacity needed to spearhead health initiatives. Our collaborative tables allow decision makers, subject matter experts and residents to examine challenges together and develop solutions that work for all stakeholders. Our established reputation for neutrality gives competing organizations a place where they can find common ground and ensures that broader community needs are given a voice. Ubuntu Village Works: Ubuntu Village Works is an organization dedicated to creating Culturally Responsive healing spaces and helping organizations become more culturally responsive both inward and outward facing. A community where Black people can be their best selves physically, mentally, emotionally, and Spiritually. They have access to all the resources they need to find, achieve, and maintain their wellness as they define it. All disparities are eliminated, and Black people have unrestricted access to culturally responsive systems, services, and supports. Mindful Matters: Mindful Matters offers mindful education, counseling and coaching for anyone looking to find more balance, focus and peace in their lives. Mindful Matters offers classes, workshops and guided meditation both locally and internationally. Every program emphasizes a mindful approach through insight, practice and reflection to help people thrive, rather than survive. Whatever life throws your way, you can trust that Mindful Matters has an evidence based mindfulness tool to help you through. Our values of empathy, compassion, education and transformation serve as the foundation for our offerings. Baddass Bodies By Sean: Baddass Bodies by Sean is not your typical Rochester gym. It's an exclusive, members only boutique GYM & personal training facility for women, children and their families. All classes are personally instructed by Rochester's foremost female fitness instructor; Sean Smith, at the only black-woman owned gym in the City of Rochester. Our members are made up of a diverse group of amazing women, children and their families of all fitness levels and ages. Our gym family is a tight-knit group who know each other well. We support, uplift and care for each other and we roll together outside the gym walls too. Howdy! Who else can't stop listening to Beyonce's Texas Hold 'Em? Let's take to the floor now - In this week's In-Between, I'm talking about:Longer days are ahead! The sun will begin setting later in early March. Lookout summer girlys, we're close. Country music - Beyonce, thank you. Because I can't stop listening to her new music, I'm getting served some country, specifically Lainey Wilson. I go on about what I love about her sound.... but I also share my thoughts about why I've never considered myself a country fan (lol). Millennial confidence on social media Millennial insecurity on gen z slang (HAHA!), aka me trying to be relevant. I'm truly humbled by my geriatric millennial status. Listen to see what I'm giggling about. Are we buying a house?! No! Yes! Maybe! I'm giving you an update on that front, but I'm sharing my thoughts on the online rhetoric about buying a home versus renting. I do not have all the answers, nor would I ever tell you what to do when it comes to housing, but I'm offering a little perspective from what I've noticed on social media, and how that has played into my anxiety and decision making. Listen as we explore the role of nutrition in golf performance and the importance of proper eating and drinking habits on and off the course. We dive into the science behind glycogen activation in muscles, why he advises against eating too close to a round, the benefits of anti-inflammatory foods and hydration for golfers, and eye-opening considerations around substances like caffeine, alcohol, and marijuana. Will also debunks the misconception of needing excessive amounts of water while underscoring the importance of sodium. He discusses what it means to detox your organs, and how to curb dehydration from coffee and alcohol while playing a round. He even gives his thoughts on microdosing with psychedelic mushrooms to unlock their potential benefits for focus and clarity out on the golf course. Finally, Will talks about the benefits of walking, as compared to driving, from hole to hole. We share our personal experiences that illustrate how such a simple, deliberate change in how we play can enhance not only our golf game but also our overall health. Ever experienced a slump in your athletic performance that just happens to align with your menstrual cycle? Or maybe you've noticed a dip in your energy levels and productivity that seems to coincide with the onset of menopause? Today, I'm navigating this all-important topic with Dr. Erin Ellis, a naturopathic doctor with a wealth of knowledge about hormones and their impact on our wellbeing. Listen in as Dr. Ellis unpacks the ebb and flow of a 28-day menstrual cycle, discussing what it takes to harmonize our athletic lifestyle with our hormonal rhythms. Dr. Ellis explains what you have to consider if a golf tournament falls on an inconvenient week in your menstrual cycle, as well as how to tweak your training regimen based on your menstrual phase to maximize performance. We also discuss how hormonal fluctuations contribute to performance decline and how to alleviate common symptoms such as hot flashes and night sweats with a combination of sleep, supplementation and—potentially for some women—hormone replacement therapy. Dr. Ellis encourages women to listen to their body and challenge the all-too-common “everything is normal” narrative. From the benefits of cold plunges, infrared therapy, saunas, and curating your environment, Dr. Ellis shares a trove of wisdom that all women can use to create a holistic approach to their health. About Dr. Erin Ellis: Dr. Erin Ellis is a naturopathic doctor based in Gilbert, AZ. She has found her passion helping women fix crappy periods, helping with hormone imbalances, and addressing why you are constantly running on empty by getting to the root cause so you can be your best version. Dr. Ellis is dedicated to spreading the modalities of Naturopathic Medicine to the East Valley in January 2020 where she founded Hope Natural Health.
