Scottie Scheffler continued his historic run by winning the 2025 Open Championship at Royal Portrush, cruising to a four-shot victory at 17-under to secure his fourth major title in just over three years — matching Tiger Woods’ early career pace. His final-round 68 cemented a dominant performance, extending his streak to 11 straight top-10s and further solidifying his grip on World No. 1. The win also reshaped the Ryder Cup picture: Rory McIlroy remains the lone automatic qualifier for Europe, but Shane Lowry, Tyrrell Hatton, and Robert MacIntyre are closing in, while Sepp Straka’s recent surge adds intrigue. For Team USA, Keegan Bradley sits 10th and could become the first playing captain since 1963, thanks to a new rule allowing on-course advice from vice-captains. Meanwhile, Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy impressed with late Open charges, and with the Olympics and FedEx Cup playoffs looming, the summer golf calendar is just heating upSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Well we called it. Scottie monstered the field in The Open Championship.Okay, we didn't call it, in fact our Betr multi was a bust on every leg....we will make formal apologies at some point on today's podcast, you deserve nothing less.But.....Scottie was magnificent, and controlled the tournament, certainly over the weekend, and we start today with Nick and Mark discussing some of the most impressive parts of Scottie's performance: his putting, his recovery from poor shots, his composure. Exceptional. Nick says the player interviews post the tournament and prior to the final day reminded him of when he was playing and Tiger dominated, in that everyone felt that they were playing for second place, Scottie was that good. Then Mark makes a big call on Scottie and how many tournaments he will win, Mark doesn't believe he will win over 10 majors in his career, as he feels that his footwork will limit him at some point. Nick disagrees, and says Scottie has plenty of years left and will get to double figures.Nick talks about playing with Harris English who he said was exceptional then, and now, and highlights what the weakness in Harris' game was when he played with him. Mark raises the Ryder Cup and says that surely Chris Gotterup is a certainty to be picked now, Nick says no.We discuss the Aussies. A poor tournament overall, with Marc Leishman the only one to make the cut, ultimately finishing T52. Mark raises Cam Smith, and his consistent poor performances in the majors, and says that whilst LIV has been great for Bryson's game for example, it has not been good for Cams, and he just has to start hitting fairways. Nick comments that Brysons performance at the weekend was very strong after a terrible first day, and Mark predicts that we will see Rahm have a 'cracking' 2026 season and explains why. Both Nick and Mark loved how Royal Portrush looked, Mark is desperate to play it. Nick loved the drone shots. And we discuss how on the hardest hole on the course, Scottie birdied Calamity 3 days of the 4....Mark would like a plaque to be placed there to commemorate it.Then we apologise for our Betr multi, although Nick notes one leg would have come off were it not for Shane Lowry's 2-shot penalty, Mark wasn't aware of it, so we play the audio and discuss. But one person does win, wolfpacker Narelle Brunotte was drawn as our winner - she had a punt on our Betr multi and whilst the multi was a dismal failure, Narelle has won 250 bucks to spend at the Golf Clearance Outlet...congrats Narelle!Mark lists his Top 5 courses in Ireland that he'd like to play, has he missed any obvious ones?As you'd expect, the PING global results today have a big focus on The Open Championship, although we do digress for a moment with a video that contained an unusual sound.....we play the audio, and if you're watching on YouTube you will see the Shepmates take on it....very funny. During PING globals, Nick tells a great story that has come out of an Australasian Q-School in the US at the weekend.Feedback - lots of comments on last weeks Top 100 World Golf Course List with Jasper from the Top100 organisation, and plenty of comments - some in support, and some not - on LIV seeking OWGR points.Nick's masterclass today is inspired by Scottie Scheffler and looks at why aiming for the middle of the green is more effective than aiming for the pin.A fun pod today, and a feedback one to come later this week which we're looking forward to!We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. Scottie Scheffler is the 2025 Champion Golfer of the Year after securing his fourth major title with a Sunday 68 at Royal Portrush. Andy and Brendan spend the first half of this episode putting Scheffler's run into some historical context following his win, placing him a U.S. Open win away from the career slam at just 29 years old. The two break down his round and the skills he showed throughout the week that enabled him to separate from the rest of the field in Northern Ireland. The back half of this recap touches on basically the rest of the field, as Andy's "Storylines Nobody's Talking About" include Rory McIlroy winning "Low Holywood," a Sunday storm hitting Westy Island, plenty of Wikipedia Top Tens, and Kevin Kisner blaming the UGSA for Wyndham Clark's Oakmont incident. There's also plenty of course takeaways from Royal Portrush, and Brendan ends this week of coverage with a little game from his time on the grounds at the 2025 Open.

Scottie Scheffler cruised to his fourth major title on Sunday at Royal Portrush, in the *exact same* timeframe that it took Tiger Woods to win his first four majors. Smylie Kaufman and Charlie Hulme discuss Scottie's ascent to the undisputed best player on the planet, examine statistics framing him as the closest thing we've seen to prime Tiger, and hear quotes from Jordan Spieth and Xander Schauffele about Scottie's mindset and intimidation factor. SK and CH briefly look ahead to wonder ... could Scottie complete his career Grand Slam at Shinnecock Hills in 2026 ... on Father's Day ... which also happens to be his 30th birthday??? The script writes itself! Smylie and Charlie also offer a toast to the 2025 major season, discuss the day that failed to materialize for Rory McIlroy, and Bryson DeChambeau's incredible surge and mental fortitude to play Friday through Sunday at 16-under after shooting 78 on Thursday, while also reading quotes from Wyndham Clark in the wake of recent news about his ban from Oakmont. In what may come as a surprise to no one, Scottie Scheffler's bogey-free 67 has him four clear of the field heading into Sunday at Royal Portrush. Andy and Brendan recap more excellence from the No. 1 player in the world and set the scene for what could be his fourth major win on Sunday. They play a quick game of Contender/Pretender with Haotong Li and Matt Fitzpatrick before Brendan unpacks a day walking with Rory McIlroy in Northern Ireland. The two attempt to contextualize what Rory means to the fans at Royal Portrush and what playing this event in his home country may mean to him coming off the career slam. They wonder if Rory has a chance of chasing down the Sheriff tomorrow, but are unsure if anyone can even reach Scottie's current mark of -14. In "Storylines Nobody's Talking About," Andy highlights Matt Jordan's everlasting battle against par, Georgia Bulldogs feeling right at home, and a new musical heading to Broadway in September. Brendan wraps this show up with tales from the pub with Dick Teder and an update on Joseph LaMagna's TikTok stardom.

Moving Day at the 153rd Open Championship was everything we could have hoped for, and more! Smylie Kaufman spent the day listening to     roars (RORS?) echoing across Northern Ireland, as their native son Rory McIlroy mounted a charge that sees him in the penultimate group on Sunday. Smylie joins Charlie Hulme to explore any possible scenario that doesn't see Scottie Scheffler hoisting the Claret Jug, as the World No. 1 holds a four-shot lead, and has executed his gameplan to perfection at Royal Portrush. SK gives his notes on Haotong Li after watching him post a two-under 69 on Saturday to join Scottie in the final group, while exploring the possibility that two current Ryder Cup outsiders - Matt Fitzpatrick and Chris Gotterup - could find their way onto their respective teams with a top-five finish. Andy and Brendan return to recap the second round of the 153rd Open Championship following Scottie Scheffler's 64, the best round of the day at Royal Portrush. Most of this episode is focused on another brilliant round from the Sheriff, allowing him to take the outright lead by one shot over Matt Fitzpatrick. Brian Harman popped early, firing a 65 in the morning wave to have the lead for most of the day until the two policemen got hot. Shane Lowry was also discussed at length after cursing at Royal Portrush, the site of his lone major win, and being handed a two-shot penalty for causing his ball to move with a practice swing. Andy and Brendan run through notable missed cuts, including LIV stars Cam Smith, Brooks Koepka, and Patrick Reed, and American "stars" Patrick Cantlay and Collin Morikawa. Andy wraps up with some more "Storylines Nobody's Talking About" and is sure to mention Matthew Jordan's career-high Open round, the Sepptic Tank's first major made cut of 2025, and a retired golfer who found his way to the weekend.
