She was obsessed with movies and worked on the school news program. Oh btw, Tipper had an OLDER boyfriend. Devastatingly cool. You can catch Tipper now on The Mindy Project and see her BAND, Color TV perform in L.A. Miranda is joined by writer Ryan O'Connell (Awkward, Thought Catalog) for a dive into his exciting high school experience. Chris attended Winchester High School where he successfully brought back school dances (they were BANNED!), found out creative ways to "buy time" on papers, and participated in a billion school clubs. Chris' competitive ice skating training and high levels of school participation left him with little to no down time, which, spoiler alert - "kids shouldn't have anyway." Listen up and find out how Chris' experience was similar to Sabrina The Teenage Witch. P.S. Chris is a long time listener! Tweet us and let us know how many episodes you've listened to!
This week's amazing episode is with the lovely Xosha Roquemore (The Mindy Project, Precious). She went to Oakwood School before starting at the catholic private school, St. Bernard. Xosha's penchant for the "thug life" and good student sensibilities resulted in a "I can't get in trouble" loop hole that she definitely took advantage of. This episode is so fun. Take notes.
Today's episode we have our first boarding school attendee AND prom queen, Lang Fisher (30 Rock, The Onion, The Mindy Project). Lang attended boarding school in Colorado Springs where she almost got kicked out, lied about a drug deal, and was a part of The Hive. Lang was also very studious and probably had a little too much on her plate at once; her living on campus provided us a different take on the high school experience. For this week's episode, Miranda had our very first truant (but also he's a writer, stand-up, snapchat, and periscop-er) Yassir Lester! Yassir graduated (AFTER being detained due to truancy) in 2002 from Allen C Pope High School in Georgia. Despite being a good student on paper, Yassir's teachers used his truancy and penchant for back talk to grade him lower than he deserved. Yassir spent most of his time working almost every job from a used book store salesperson (and thief) to a sales associate (AND thief) at Wal-Mart. His connection with his friend's mom resulted in him doing things he really didn't want to like going to prom and applying and getting in to college. He also lied about not being a virgin and almost got caught in that lie several times. It's hilarious. Follow Yassir on all social media platforms starting with @Yassir_Lester on twitter. Don't skip class or this episode of High School With Miranda Berman.
High school with former alter boy, football player, and Thomas Guide master Edward Hansen at Loyola High School was full of ups and downs. Pressure to attend Loyola was on Edward about a decade before being high school age. Edward graduated in 2001, when the world lost a princess, Aliyah, and frosted tips were in. As mentioned, Edward was on the football team, against his wishes, but he quickly figured out to use his atheletic talent to his advantage (i.e. to get a car). Edward was teased on the Donnie Darko-esque campus of Loyola, but was not a stranger to the party scene, especially when flanked by his two friends Masha and Tasha. Despite not wanting to play football, the lessons Ed learned on the field helped him become the driven, hard-working, team player and business man he is today. Follow him on twitter @therealedhansen, intsagram @edwardhansen and tumblr Kinda Fabulous
Celebrate Labor day with this episode of High School with Lauren Greenberg! Lauren is an amazing writer {follow her on twitter, you will not be disappointed} (Late Late Show With James Corden) and a San Ramon Valley High School Alumni. Despite having a very apathetic high school career, and some awful teachers, Lauren attended junior college and transferred to NYU. So like, if you hate high school now, don’t lose hope, and LISTEN TO THIS EPISODE. Lauren was basically Lindsay Weir with friends who loved to get matching t-shirts for all the school functions (coincidentally, Freaks and Geeks was the show that inspired her to write for television). She found her “freaks” at her after school job at a gym. This is a tale of perseverance and a must must listen for everyone. Tune in, share, rate, and review!
This week's amazing episode is with writer (and in the cool group but not as cool as the others) Harper Dill. Birthed from two artists, Harper went to college-campuslike Harvard Westlake after going to arty school, Crossroads. By 10th grade, it became apparent to Harper that she was socially a little slower than her friends, #latebloomer. Miranda and Harper reveal that their "slowness" resulted in being left out and behind. Instead of transferring back to Crossroads, Harper got more involved in theater and one act festivals. This episode is super relatable and genuine and don't miss it!! Subscribe, share, comment, review.
Dear Diary, Today's episode with Annie Stamell (CW's Fan Talk, How To Survive High School) is so good I can't believe it. Annie is like this cool writer/producer nowadays and back when she was in high school, she was amazing! She went to high school in Maine, played field hockey, lacrosse and was a downhill ski racer, AND was voted "Most School Spirit"!!! I am so jealous, I wish I could be her! Even her relationship with her mom was cool, they were like the Gilmore Girls! Annie is so popular too, she went to a ton of house parties (WITH BOYS) and the Fallmouth Beer Team gave her this cool nickname "Stamos". Yes, like THE JOHN STAMOS. Even her nicknames are amazing. I wonder if I'll ever get into a food fight like she has. I started watching the X-Files because I heard she was obsessed. SHHH, don't tell anyone I'm copying her. Anyways, thanks Diary for always being here. Ciao!!! Xoxo High School With Miranda Berman
Attendance is necessary for this week's episode with Nichelle Hines!Nichelle is a Saint Ignatious College Prepatory alumni, former track star, and now Chief Ride Officer at Cycle House (as seen on Hollywood Cycle - season finale tomorrow, Tuesday August 11th on E!). Miranda and Nichelle dug in and talked about how it was being a non-catholic, black girl at a catholic high school in San Francisco and how her track coach fueled her competitve spirit. Nichelle's focus and "never suffer the opinions of fools" mindset kept her from falling victim to the often tumultuous self-doubt that many high schoolers go through. Whether you're in high school currently or not, this episode is a must listen.
Get in to your assigned seats and listen in to High School with Tracey Wigfield (30 Rock, The Mindy Project). Coming from ruling her class at a smaller middle school, Tracey entered her all girls catholic high school and quickly realized that a bigger class means giving up political status. After a failed attempt at the cheerleader life, Tracey moved on to the theater. Tune in and find out how Tracey found out how her rebellious, cigarette-smoking boyfriend was cheating on her, why a play she got the lead on was cancelled, and how a dinosaur ended up wearing a nun's habit. After graduating in 2001, Tracey had the honor of being invited to deliver the commencement speech at her high school recently. Probably because shes wildly successful and confident and so so funny. You're going to love this. Turn in your papers, it's time for High School With Miranda Berman.

For this week's episode Miranda gets introspective with Alexander Tarrant (artist, creative consultant, former basketball player). Graduating in '98, Alexander went to high school in a world pre- The Matrix but still managed to live in his computer. Alex wasn't too interested in school but one Jamaican teacher with a mustache really left an impression. What risque movie did Alex take the tall girl in school out on a date?
