Becoming your ideal self by having the daily reminders of who you were, who you are, and who you strive to be. Everyday we are bombarded by distractions and outside thoughts that we sometimes forget to stay authentic and keep it real. This podcast will motivate, inspire, and remind you that the small things in life gives you the biggest impact.
This episode of the Keeping it Real podcast is about embracing our greatness and not letting the actions of negative people get us down. Have you ever had an experience where you allowed a person of no real importance to you to have an extremely negative impact on you? Did you wonder why it affected you as it did? Did you attempt to ignore it or did you have a negative reaction/response? I believe that there are times in our lives when we may be more vulnerable or that we might be experiencing a defeated mindset. Either way, I feel this when we may 'react' to someone's unkindness rather than choose to remain positive or even ignore the negative actions of the other person. These are the times that I remind myself that 'two negatives will never ever result in a positive'! Some individuals are 'dream stealers.' You know, the people who put down our ideas or are negative about our hopes, dreams, or accomplishments. Words of wisdom for anyone like this that you may encounter: Distance yourself from their negativity! Work on remaining positive and remember your truth. Always embrace your greatness and don't let the turkeys get you down. “The truth is unless you let go, unless you forgive yourself, unless you forgive the situation, unless you realize that the situation is over, you cannot move forward.” ~Steve Maraboli ~ I believe letting go of a past relationship, our frustration or anger, can be one of the most challenging things we do. It seems that for some people, no matter how painful it is and how much suffering they go through, they don't want to give up the memories. Memories are OK, especially the good ones, but it's also important to remember that everything wasn't perfect. I hope today's podcast will provide some tips that can help you to let go of a past relationship or circumstances that you have had no control over. “Some people believe holding on and hanging in there are signs of great strength. However, there are times when it takes much more strength to know when to let go and then do it.” ~Ann Landers ~ A compassionate tomorrow begins with us today...
Standing up for ourselves requires courage, transparency, and authenticity. Staying true to oneself, no matter what others may feel or think. It can be easier to say than to actually do! Do you feel confident when standing up for yourself? Are you assertive when you do? Are you someone that doesn't like conflict, therefore you'll do almost anything to avoid the situation? Maybe you are feeling like no one really cares what you have to say or think? Are you true to your own values and position on how you feel about something? Develop enough courage so that you can stand up for yourself and then stand up for somebody else. ~ Maya Angelou ~ #takeastand #believeinyou #authentic #standup A compassionate tomorrow starts with us today...

This quote by Henry Ford certainly speaks to attitude and mindset! "Whether you think you can or think you can't, you're right" With 2023 upon us, have you made New Year's resolutions? How about setting goals? Have you made a plan? If you are looking to make positive changes in your career or you are working on self-improvement, with a positive attitude and by setting goals, you are on your way to achieving success. I have found that SMART goals (Specific - Measurable - Achievable - Relevant - Time-Based) created by George T. Doran have been immensely helpful in my remaining positive, working my plan effectively, and ultimately, being successful in achieving my goals. This is the first podcast for 2023! Happy New Year, and thank you for listening. What does it mean to 'hold space' for someone else? It means that we are willing to walk alongside another person in whatever journey they're on without judging the, making them feel inadequate, trying to fix them, or trying to impact the outcome. When we hold space for other people, we open our hearts, offer unconditional support, and let go of judgment and control. ~Author Unknown ~ Today's podcast provides tips on how we can work on not judging others and ourselves. "The final forming of a person's character lies in their own hands" ~Anne Frank~ "A compassionate tomorrow begins with us today" ~Glenda Sheard~
Welcome to the Keeping it Real podcast. Today's podcast is recorded on November 13th, 2022, World Kindness Day! World Kindness Day is an international holiday that was formed in 1998, to promote kindness throughout the world. There is no better way to connect with others and ourselves than by doing small acts of kindness. In fact, everyone can practice kindness without any cost or money, or even effort! I think Leo Buscaglia said it best: "Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” ~Leo Buscaglia~ A compassionate tomorrow begins with us today...
Earlier today, I made this post on social media. I was feeling down, sad, angry, frustrated, and alone. I didn't know how to help a friend that is struggling with something very challenging. "Often in life we become frustrated and sad because we don't know what to say or what to do for someone that we love and care about! Today is one of those days.. Today I send my worries and my prayers to the Lord above" It seems like there are so many times in life when our words seem shallow or when we just can't seem to comfort someone we care about. We often want to take the pain away from our loved one who is struggling, and we don't always know how we can help. It's in times like these that I put it upstairs to the Big Guy! Yes, I talk to God! I guess that's called praying... Now, someone may call me religious because I talk to the Big Guy. Others will understand because they talk to him too! Regardless, it is my sincere hope that no person ever feels unloved or alone. And if there is a time, I hope they/you/me will put it upstairs to the Big Guy. Thank you for listening to the "Keeping it Real' podcast. A compassionate tomorrow begins with us...
Welcome to the Keeping It Real podcast. It's been almost 4 months since the last episode. I'm back to chat about REAL life topics that matter to everyone. You may not have had some of these real-life experiences or feelings and emotions, but it is my hope that you can draw on this if you need to. It is my hope that the Keeping it Real podcast will always bring value to the listener. Earlier today I made this post on one of my social media platforms. My true intent for the post; is to feel proud for taking the time to respond to being hurt rather than reacting! Sometimes when we 'react' to being hurt, we may express our feelings in anger and make hurtful statements! "For the last several days I have taken time to think about how to respond to someone that I thought was a long-time friend/colleague, someone who treated me like I don't have anything of value to offer! I'm really proud of myself for not reacting because I'm extremely hurt by this self-absorbed individual! Today is the day that I will let this individual know that I'm a rock star too, one with a heart filled with compassion for others. Always learning, always growing…" #respondnotreact #respectyourself It takes time to learn how to embrace experiences that can be transformed into wisdom. I've learned that when I'm hurt or angry, it's always best to follow the 24-hour rule. "Wait 24 hours before we 'respond'. A compassionate tomorrow starts with you today...
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has” by Margaret Mead (1901-1978) Commitment is defined as a willingness to give your time and energy to something that you believe in, or a promise or firm decision to do something. Now, have you ever been on a committee where you were so passionate about making a difference and then life changed everything for you? Or maybe you've been on a Board where not everyone seemed to be committed to their role? Through my own experience, I've learned that if I can't commit to something that I promised to do, how important it is to let my Board, team or committee know as soon as possible. It may be a disappointment to other members of the team, but it also shows respect to those that are able to remain committed! There is no shame in saying, 'I'm sorry that I can no longer be committed to this project' OR 'I've had some changes in my life that no longer allow me the same time that I had before". If you remove yourself from a committee for whatever reason, remember that it allows another person to have the opportunity to get involved! Time is precious. Life changes. Do your best always... These are the people to surround ourselves with. A compassionate tomorrow begins with us today...
What does it mean to 'live every day like it's your last? Be BOLD - take risks. They will pay off in the end. Avoid PROCRASTINATING - Don't wait until tomorrow to do something that you could finish today. Do the challenging tasks first, and enjoy the easy tasks when you are all done. Live in the PRESENT - Seize this day, forget the worries of tomorrow and regrets of yesterday. APPRECIATE what you have - Don't focus on the negative pieces of your life. Try to think about how fortunate you are. When we are positive, life feels a whole lot brighter. TRUST your gut - Whatever your inner voice is telling you, it's usually right. If you still aren't convinced, try it with small decisions in the beginning. Get in TOUCH - The world is full of inspiring people just waiting for you to reach out. Whether it's meeting new friends or reconnecting with friends from the past, just do it! KINDNESS is the key - Every day, we have to deal with people. I genuinely believe there are far more good people than bad. Think about how you want to be remembered. As a kind person or ?? Grab OPPORTUNITIES - The next time somebody offers you an opportunity, or whatever you might be looking for, don't think twice. Say YES even if you don't know how because you can always learn as you go, or change your mind later if it doesn't fit you. REMEMBER, you only live once. “Living life to the fullest means continually reaching out for newer, richer, deeper, life-changing experiences. It means using those experiences as a means for personal growth and pushing the boundaries of yourself mentally, spiritually, and intellectually for the betterment of yourself and the world at large.” - Zero Dean - A compassionate tomorrow begins with us today...

"There is no power for change greater than a community discovering what it cares about." – Margaret J. Wheatley #shoplocal #supportlocal When we support our local businesses by shopping local and by volunteering our time at community events, we help to make our community a better place for everyone. Also, by supporting our local businesses, we are supporting our neighbors and friends. In turn, we are helping the businesses to support local causes that they are passionate about. In every community, there are many people and areas that need our support. Just some examples: the homeless or hungry, senior citizens, persons with special needs, neighborhood enhancements, and charitable causes. A community thrives when people who live there love and support their community. "In every community, there is work to be done. In every nation, there are wounds to heal. “For every door that's been opened to me, I've tried to open my door to others. And here is what I have to say, finally: Let's invite one another in. Maybe then we can begin to fear less, to make fewer wrong assumptions, to let go of the biases and stereotypes that unnecessarily divide us. Maybe we can better embrace the ways we are the same. It's not about being perfect. It's not about where you get yourself in the end. There's power in allowing yourself to be known and heard, in owning your unique story, in using your authentic voice. And there's grace in being willing to know and hear others. This, for me, is how we become.” - Michelle Obama, Becoming March 8th is International Women's Day, and the theme for 2022 is #BreakTheBias This day marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality. 'There are people in your life who will cause you to forget who you are, and then there are the people who will help you to remember. Be thankful for those people who are the gardeners of your soul, who tend to your noxious weeds, keep you nurtured and growing, and your face toward the sun. ~Anna White~ I believe that most people have experienced the feeling of being disliked. Whether it's during our childhood or as an adult, it's hard. It hurts regardless of our age. There are also times in our lives when we encounter an individual that WE dislike. There may even be times that we don't know why we dislike the person. Regardless, it's not a good feeling or something a person wants to carry around for very long. Either way, it creates negative stress that can be difficult to manage, but we can learn and grow from the experience. It's always our choice. Have you ever had an experience where you felt unwanted or not welcome? Like you were not invited to belong to a group? Like another person in the group didn't like you, and you had no idea why? Like that person was superior to you? It can really hard to manage one's feelings when something like this happens. Maybe you've had this experience before? Being the new kid at school, sitting by yourself in the playground and no one even notices you. As a mature adult, I am aware that not every person we meet will like us! We all have different abilities and talents to offer, and it shouldn't matter to us if another person does not acknowledge us or our talent. But it can matter, and it hurts! What is truly important is that we remember that self-respect and self-worth are an inside job! It has nothing to do with what another person may think of us. It's also important to not allow another person to rent space in your head. Drawing on our confidence, knowing our worth, and valuing what we contribute to the world is are qualities that no one can take away from us unless we allow them to... The definition in the dictionary for the word prayer: a solemn request for help or expression of thanks addressed to God or an object of worship. And some people may think the power of prayer is about religion, and maybe it is, for them. My thoughts on the power of prayer: it's about hope, people caring about people, and believing in something bigger than ourselves. I talk to God every day, sometimes many times a day and night. His nickname is Big Guy! NO disrespect intended ever! Today's podcast intends to ask the listener: Do you believe in something bigger than yourself? And it's okay if you don't. There is no preaching in this podcast, only thought-provoking questions. If you do believe in something bigger than yourself, I hope it brings you comfort knowing a Big Guy is always watching over you. Thank you very much for listening to the Keeping It Real podcast. For some people, I'm sure it will be. Where others may encounter challenges or tragedies that will make 2021 one of the most difficult years of their lives. What can we do about it? Everyone has bad days, even bad weeks sometimes. How can we get ourselves through times when we feel down or angry about everything? We work on developing an attitude of gratitude because when we are grateful, it's impossible to have negative feelings. A few suggestions on maintaining an attitude of gratitude: Write things down that you are grateful for in a journal. Everyone likes to know that they are appreciated, so express your gratitude to the people in your life. Remember to celebrate the things that matter most to you. When we focus on being grateful, we are much more aware of all the good things that surround us. Some people listen to positive affirmations daily on YouTube, where others will read quotes about gratitude and positivity. Make it a habit to express appreciation and thankfulness every day. It will change your life. A Compassionate Tomorrow starts with us, today...
