Often those with mental health problems are attributed as demon possessed which can lead to homelessness, death or imprisonment. The Bible does not call us to ostracize those that are “possessed” or simply pray but to actually support those of us with mental health issues. This can cause many to waiver in their fulfillment of “Loving thy neighbor” but it is in the face of these moments that we should double down. Humans need love and connection. Multiple philosophies around the world present the idea that identity and purpose is found in community. To do this we must practice Storge love, or familiar love. Discipline is diverse. Discipline should match the action not be a blanket punishment. Punishment as education is abuse.
