Quinn Ewers and Sark's Offense Didn't hold up their end of the Bargain against the TCU Horned Frogs

Going into Saturday, The Texas Longhorns had every opportunity to beat TCU at home and control their own destiny en route to the Big 12 Championship Game. College Gameday was in attendance, Arch Manning was in attendance as well as the creme de la creme of class of 2023 recruits. 100,000 fans loud and proud at DKR under the lights. Steve Sarkisian with a chance to get his first signature win as the University of Texas head coach and Quinn Ewers a chance to end his slump delivering the ball to playmakers such as Bijan Robinson and Xavier Worthy. When the smoke cleared, this Texas offense scored three points in a head scratching effort that once again ended with Texas on the losing end of a game they likely should have won. In the two biggest games of the year, Texas has been at home and their defense has allowed 20 points to Alabama and 17 points to the TCU Horned Frogs. Texas lost both of those games. With two games left to go in the season, it has become painfully obvious that the 2022 season has become a disappointment, like the 10-12 seasons before it. Yes, Texas is a very young team and there were to be some expected growing pains. But Texas has now gone out here atleast three times, (arguably four) and lost to teams they were clearly better than. Now for Texas, the likely scenario is watching a team you beat and a team you held to 17 points compete for a Big 12 Championship. But don't worry Longhorn fans, we got next year. Will Steve Sarkisian get his Signature Win against the TCU Horned Frogs? Quinn Ewers vs. Max Duggan

Imagine if I told you before the season that When TCU and Texas played on November 12th, it would be the biggest game of the weekend in college football. Imagine if I told you that one team would be undefeated and in the College Football Playoff race and it would be Sonny Dykes and his TCU Horned Frogs in his first year as head coach. That is the setting as Quinn Ewers, Bijan Robinson and Xavier Worthy face off against Max Duggan, Quintin Johnston and the Horned Frogs on Saturday. With TCU being 4th in the country, Texas has the opportunity to beat a top 5 team at home for the first time since 1999. With three games left on the schedule, Texas has the opportunity to play in the Big 12 championship game on December 3rd. With recruits like Anthony Hill and Javien Toviano scheduled to attend, Texas has the opportunity to prove to the 2023 class and beyond that the Longhorns have turned the corner. Breaking: Colton Vasek flips to Texas, Anthony Hill trends to the Longhorns, Javien Toviano visits

A wise man once said recruiting isn't for the faint of heart. For Oklahoma Sooner fans, you learned this week that Colton Vasek would no longer be attending your University. For Texas A&M University Aggie fans, you learned that Anthony Hill will no longer be attending your University. To drive the stake deeper into your heart, you learned that those players you lost are likely headed to play for your biggest rival! In a class already loaded with the likes of Arch Manning, Johntay Cook, Cedric Baxter and Malik Muhammad, it looks like the 2023 recruiting class for the Texas Longhorns is about to get a shot in the arm at two crucial defensive positions in this class: Edge and linebacker. Anthony Hill and Colton Vasek are two of the best defensive prospects in the country, two prospects who chose Oklahoma and Texas A&M over Texas respectively. With both of them announcing decommitments this week, and with Anthony Hill coming to Austin and Vasek having made multiple trips to Austin, both seem like only a matter of time before they are written in sharpie as John Garcia (who joins me) would say. Quinn Ewers and Bijan Robinson have this team at 6-3, controlling their own destiny to a Big 12 championship with three games to go and a huge top 5 matchup in DKR on Saturday. Seems like recruits are taking notice. Hook Em   Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! LinkedIn LinkedIn jobs helps you find the candidates you want to talk to, faster. Texas Longhorns control their Big 12 Championship destiny with a win over the Kansas State Wildcats

Victory Monday never gets old right? Your Texas Longhorns had not won a football game since October 15th ( I know) but that changed when they beat Adrian Martinez and Deuce Vaughn on the road in Manhattan, Kansas beating the Kansas State Wildcats 34-27 on Saturday. Elite performances from elite players like Bijan Robinson, Roschon Johnson, and Xavier Worthy helped ensure the Longhorns got their first true road win since 2021. Steve Sarkisian allowed his young quarterback in Quinn Ewers to settle in the offense and pick his spots, rather than being the savior. When there were opportunities for Quinn to make plays, he definitely did that and that is a big reason they left Kansas with a win. With that win, Texas now is back in the driver's seat with the destination hopefully being the Big 12 championship. Texas now has three games left against the TCU Horned Frogs, Kansas Jayhawks and Baylor Bears. If Texas wins all three of those games, they will be in the Big 12 championship on December 3rd. Pressure is a privilege, and now you have the privilege of welcoming a team into DKR on Saturday that is undefeated and has college football playoff aspirations. If Texas wants to get back into the upper echelon of college football, these are the games we have to win. Buckle up. This season is just getting started. Offensive & Defensive Schematics for the Texas Longhorns/Gameplan to beat the Kansas State Wildcats

@Texas Homer  joins the show to talk about everything we need to know about what has been good and bad for this Texas Longhorns football team schematically. On the offensive and defensive sides, there has been some good and some bad this season, which has led to a 5-3 record for Texas through 8 games. On the offensive side, what has worked in the passing game between Hudson Card and Quinn Ewers thus far this season? What are the concepts that have allowed playmakers like Xavier Worthy and Jordan Whittington to make plays in the passing game this year? In the run game, what schemes have allowed Bijan Robinson and Keilan Robinson to be amongst the best in the country in terms of runningbacks? How have the versatile tight ends in Jahleel Billingsley and Ja'Tavion Sanders affected this offense? On the defensive side, this is a team that has vastly improved from 2021. What schematically has worked for the Longhorns on that side of the ball in 2022 that has allowed playmakers like Keondre Coburn, Demarvion Overshown, Jaylan Ford and Ryan Watts to shine this season? On top of that, the Texas Longhorns have a tough matchup against the Kansas State Wildcats tomorrow. On offense, how can Quinn Ewers and Sark attack them to get a tough win on the road? On defense, how can Pete K and Gary Patterson stop Deuce Vaughn and Adrian Martinez or Will Howard? Texas needs this win in the worst way. Let's hope they can get it. Josh Neighbors from  @Locked On Big 12  stops by the show to talk about everything we need to know in preparation for this matchup. Bringing you part 2 of our exciting Good and Bad series, this time rolling with  @Nash Talks Texas  to discuss everything good and bad with this football team from an analytical perspective. Have Quinn Ewers and Hudson Card been good enough to transcend the 5-3 record Texas possesses analytically? Would the offense serve better if BIjan Robinson and Roschon Johnson carried us while Quinn Ewers complimented them? Why are we using Jordan Whittington and Ja'Tavion Sanders so sporadically? Why does Keilan Robinson only have 19 touches? Why don't we use anybody else at all? On the defensive side, they have made leaps and bounds compared to where they were a year ago. However, this Texas defense has been night and day at home and against Oklahoma, compared to how they have looked on the road at Texas Tech and Oklahoma State? There are a ton of metrics that say Texas should be better than the product that they have on the field. So why is Texas still on the outside looking in of returning to the glory days most of us grew up being accustomed to? These are just a few questions we try to answer by diving deep into the analytics of this Steve Sarkisian coached football team. Hook Em Learn more about your ad choices. John Garcia Jr. (Director of Football Recruiting at Sports Illustrated) joins me to discuss what impact the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners staying in the Big 12 until 2025 would have from a football standpoint as well as a recruiting standpoint. We also discuss a bit of some "breaking news" that we found out recently. Arch Manning, the crown jewel of the 2023 recruiting class for Texas will indeed enroll early. Yes, Arch Manning will be on campus in January and suddenly all those QB controversy stories that surfaced will surface again between Arch Manning and Quinn Ewers. Of course, that is not the case but you have to admit that Arch announcing it the week Quinn Ewers had one of the worst statistical passing games in two decades is *chefs kiss* Special bonus episode for you on this dear Saturday since we unfortunately or maybe fortunately at this rate, won't be watching our Longhorns play today. Steven Ngati from  @Fanatic Perspective  joins me on Locked on Longhorns for the first of a three-part series detailing what has been good and what has not been good for the Texas Longhorns. We talk about the offense, defense and the coaching staff thus far. Quinn Ewers, Bijan Robinson, and Xavier Worthy have been explosive at times, but at other times they have inept in the second half. Steve Sarkisian has done some really good things this year, and Rod Babers says all the time that Sark continuously wins the battle of preparation and gameplanning against teams. However, with some of the second half collapses, Rod has also maintained that Sark is losing the battle of adjustments. Finally, we talk about a defense that has by all accounts exceeded expectations. However, they have given up 78 points in two true road games, and 91 points total in the other 6 games. Steven and I break down everything in the first part of what should be a dynamic three part series. How does Texas Coach Steve Sarkisian compare to Josh Heupel and Shane Beamer in Year 2? Sam Ehlinger

Steve Sarkisian has done a lot of great things at the University of Texas. Thus far, he has brought in two generational talents at the quarterback position. (Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning). He brought Xavier Worthy to the University of Texas and he has brought in two top five recruiting classes. His offenses have been largely explosive and have had some of the best outputs in the country regardless of who is at the quarterback position. However, the on the field product has left some meat on the bone to some Texas fans. With Steve Sarkisian being in his second year, I wanted to compare him to two head coaches in the SEC who are in their second year as well. Much gratitude to Eric Cain of  @Locked On Vols  and Andrew Lyon of  @Locked On Gamecocks  for assisting me in measuring Josh Heupel and Shane Beamer to Steve Sarkisian in their first twenty games coached. Sam Ehlinger, former great Longhorn quarterback, will be the starter for the remainder of the season for the Indianapolis Colts, while some other lifetime Longhorns have been balling this year in the NFL. Steve Sarkisian and Quinn Ewers Shoulder the Blame for a Tough Loss to the Oklahoma State Cowboys

Raise your hand if you've seen this movie before. Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns are dominating a team in the first half. Then after the game, you're asking yourself what happened and how did they lose. That happened (again) at Oklahoma State. Quinn Ewers was God awful on Saturday and Xavier Worthy had the worst body language of anyone in the country. Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson did their thing but couldn't carry us to victory. Mike Gundy put Spencer Sanders in position to make plays and he made enough of them to win. On the defensive side, the Longhorns left a lot to be desired giving up 41 points and allowing this Oklahoma State Cowboys offense to be way too comfortable at times. Throughout the first 20 games of the Steve Sarkisian era, he is 10-10 with a losing record in true road games, conference games, and against Power 5 opponents. In my opinion, he deserves the majority of the blame. Following that I place blame on Quinn Ewers and Xavier Worthy respectively, and then the Texas defense. Outside of Xavier Worthy and Jordan Whittington, does Texas have a Wide Receiver problem?

The connection between Quinn Ewers and Xavier Worthy is *chefs kiss*. Jordan Whittington has been nothing but consistent even when Hudson Card was the starting quarterback. Ja'Tavion Sanders has been one of the best tight ends in the country through seven games and Bijan Robinson, Roschon Johnson and Keilan Robinson have all been great in the passing game. So what's the issue Jon? Well, this Texas offense has not been able to attack teams with three wide receivers and I'm wondering if they have a third receiver that they feel like they can count on or trust. But does it matter Jon? I'm not sure honestly. Through 7 games, this offense has been very explosive and this Texas team looks like one of the best in the Big 12. However, the toughest part of their schedule is coming up over the next five games. I have a feeling that the Longhorns are going to have to count on Casey Cain, Agiye Hall, Brennan Thompson, Savion Red or Tarique Milton are going to have to make a big play. Will they be ready in a big moment doing something they haven't been put in position to do all season? Quinn Ewers had three touchdowns and zero interceptions en route to a 24-21 victory and people like me are saying he didn't have his best game. Once again we are spoiled Longhorn Nation. Quinn Ewers didn't have to do much while Bijan and Roschon Johnson were carving up Iowa State to the tune of 250 yards from scrimmage. But it would seem as though Quinn Ewers is going to have to bring his A game to defeat Spencer Sanders and the Oklahoma State Cowboys. What I've learned and maybe what Steve Sarkisian has learned as well is that Quinn Ewers is a gamer. Maybe the Iowa State Cyclones and Matt Cambell just bored Quinn to death with their five-star culture. I promise he'll show up and show out against Oklahoma State (atleast I hope). John Garcia, Director of Football Recruiting at Sports Illustrated, stops by the show to discuss what Texas's victory over Iowa State meant, as well as helps us have a broader college football discussion. Are CJ Stroud or Hendon Hooker in the drivers seat for Heisman? Are Ohio State and Clemson the best teams outside of the SEC? How have Lincoln Riley and Caleb Williams fared at USC? Is Texas the best team in the Big 12? Yes. Hook Em Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! SweatBlock If you or someone you love is experiencing embarrassing sweat or odor try Sweatblock. 5 Star Culture vs. 5 Star Players? The Texas Longhorns use both to defeat the Iowa State Cyclones

Quinn Ewers, Bijan Robinson and Xavier Worthy led Texas to a tough 24-21 victory over the Iowa State Cyclones on Saturday to improve to 5-2 on the season. Hunter Dekkers and Xavier Hutchinson tried to do all they could to knock off the Longhorns, but Steve Sarkisian was able to get his third straight Big 12 win ahead of a tough road game against the Oklahoma State Cowboys. It had been a while since the Roschon Johnson and Jordan Whittington led Longhorns struggled on offense the way they did on Saturday, attributing some of that to Iowa State's top defense in the Big 12. What seems to be different about this 2022 team is their ability to find ways to win. Steve Sarkisian and Quinn Ewers admitted that they may have fell victim to the rat poison that was surrounding the Longhorn program. Although the defense led by Keondre Coburn and Demarvion Overshown held Iowa State to 21 points, the defense definitely had some missed assignments and allowed the Cyclones to convert 11 third and fourth down conversions. Nonetheless, they found a way to win and beat a team that had beaten them three times in a row. 5 star culture vs. 5 star players? I'll take the 5 star players please. How can Steve Sarkisian and Quinn Ewers avoid the Rat Poison in pursuit of a Big 12 Championship?

It feels so good to be a Texas fan right now that it's almost scary. Quinn Ewers looks like a NFL quarterback. The defense led by Demarvion Overshown and Keondre Coburn are giving up 18 points per game. Texas has won their last two games by 67 combined points. Every Texas win has come by atleast 18 points. Josh Pate says Texas is easily a top ten team in the country. Joel Klatt says it's a travesty that Texas isn't ranked in the top 15. People are saying that if Quinn Ewers never got hurt, Texas would be 6-0. So why is all of this scary? Nick Saban said it best, rat poison. It's easy when everybody is singing your praises to start to believe it. To become enamored with yourself. To read your press clippings. To believe all the hype. And when that rat poison seeps in you see losses like the one to Texas Tech. If Steve Sarkisian and this Texas Longhorns team want to win the Big 12 championship, they are going to have to avoid the rat poison seeping in through these next six games that include tough matchups between Kansas, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Iowa State, TCU and Baylor. This is largely unfamiliar territory for Texas, especially with this coaching staff and the majority of these players. We'll know in 7 weeks how they handled it. Quinn Ewers of the Texas Longhorns is a Top 5 Quarterback in College Football

I believe it was Unnecessary Roughness on Twitter that posed the question we will be answering on today's show. Quinn Ewers is a top _ quarterback in college football. My answer, Quinn is a top 5 quarterback in college football. Joining him in the top 5 are Bryce Young from the Alabama Crimson Tide, CJ Stroud from the Ohio State Buckeyes, Caleb Wiliams from the USC Trojans and Hendon Hooker from the Tennessee Volunteers. Having playmakers like Bijan Robinson, JT Sanders, Xavier Worthy and Jordan Whittington definitely helps. Having an offensive playcaller and genius like Steve Sarkisian certainly helps. But what is obvious to me is that Quinn Ewers is a NFL Quarterback playing in a burnt orange jersey. There is a reason that Quinn Ewers has been compared to Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers in terms of arm talent. His unique feel in the pocket, arm strength, timing, ball placement and anticipation are all elite for him to be so young and so inexperienced at the position in college. On top of that, Quinn possesses a swagger that is second to none. I mean, he's rocking a mullet in 2022. Doesn't get any more swaggy than that. As you'll see in the video, we are truly spoiled at the Quarterback position. Oh hey Arch, almost didn't notice you over there. Hook Em Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Oh my how the turn tables. Quinn Ewers and the Texas Longhorns absolutely destroyed Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners 49-0 on Saturday as Steve Sarkisian brings the Golden Hat back to Austin for the first time since 2018. After missing almost four full games due to injury, Quinn Ewers returned hitting on all cylinders with 289 passing yards and four touchdowns. Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson were absolutely exceptional on the ground while Jordan Whittington and JT Sanders took care of business through the air. Xavier Worthy had a quiet day but caught a touchdown pass on a RPO and great read by Quinn Ewers. On the other side, Oklahoma simply did not show up to play. Dillon Gabriel missed the game with a concussion and the rest of his offensive teammates might as well not have played either. On Saturday, we saw the largest margin of victory by the Longhorns in the Red River Rivalry, and Oklahoma, one of the most storied programs in college football suffered their worst shutout loss in the history of their program. Nonetheless, the Texas Longhorns are 4-2, back on track with their starting quarterback and looking to bring that same mentality against Iowa State. We've been telling you since January this Texas team was different. I'm glad you see what we saw. Hook Em Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Rivalries undoubtedly are what set college football apart from other sports. The passion that fans of all ages display on Saturdays for their favorite football teams and the traditions affiliated with each University make college football, and really just college athletics in general a special event. Tomorrow, one of the most special events in the sport takes place at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, where Quinn Ewers and the Texas Longhorns face off against Dillon Gabriel and the Oklahoma Sooners. Steve Sarkisian faces off against Brent Venables. Bijan Robinson faces off against Eric Gray (That was disrespectful I know). In recent memory, this is a matchup that the Sooners have dominated winning nine out of the last twelve matchups. But this Texas team led by JT Sanders and Xavier Worthy are almost touchdown favorites against a wounded Oklahoma Sooner team with no real identity five games through the Brent Venables era. The loser of this game is likely out of contention for the Big 12 championship in 2022. This would make this game a must win by all accounts. Good news for the Texas Longhorns and bad news for the Oklahoma Sooners. Texas by atleast one. Hook Em Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! How the Transfer Portal and Coaching Staffs will impact Texas and Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry

The transfer portal has changed college football forever and this game between the Texas Longhorns and the Oklahoma Sooners will be a prime example of that. For starters, the quarterbacks expected to start in this game came from the transfer portal. On the Texas side, you have Quinn Ewers who transferred to Texas from the Ohio State University. Dillon Gabriel transferred from UCF, and if he's not able to start than Davis Beville who transferred from Pitt will get the nod. Texas also features two prominent starters on the defensive side in Ryan Watts and Diamonte Tucker Dorsey who came out of the transfer portal. The coaching staffs will also play a huge role in the outcomes of this game. How will Steve Sarkisian bounce back from a devastating loss in the Cotton Bowl last year after taking a 25 point lead on the Sooners last year? Will Xavier Worthy and Bijan Robinson be able to match their performances last year? How will Jeff Lebby and Brent Venables prepare an Oklahoma Sooner team that has looked vastly underwhelming throug the first five games of the season. This is the first time since 1998 that both the Longhorns and the Sooners are coming into the Red River Rivalry both unranked. With questions at Quarterback for both teams, it's not hard to understand why. Hook Em Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! On to Cincinatti. Well in this case, Oklahoma. Remind me what a Sooner is again? Their record against us in recent memory probably suggests I shouldn't talk too much trash. The Red River Rivalry is upon us. The Texas Longhorns and the Oklahoma Sooners will do battle this Saturday. Steve Sarkisian and Brent Venables face off in this historic matchup for the first time. Playmakers like Marvin Mims, Xavier Worthy, Eric Gray and Bijan Robinson will be on display this Saturday. In the past, we've seen historic players such as Vince Young, Sam Ehlinger, Ceedee Lamb, Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray and more make plays in this matchup. Now is the time to add another chapter to this legendary matchup, but first we must ask a very important question. There is uncertainty regarding both teams at the quarterback position. Will Dillon Gabriel clear concussion protocol and be able to start? Will Quinn Ewers or Hudson Card start for Texas? Quinn Ewers looked great before being knocked out in the Alabama game and now his shoulder seems to be healed enough to play. On the flip side, Hudson Card is coming off the best game of his career and this offense is hitting on all cylinders. So who gets the nod? Guess we'll find out soon enough. Guess who's back (back back) Back again (back back) Texas is Back (not really) Tell a friend. Hudson Card, Bijan Robinson, Xavier Worthy and JT Sanders were dominant on Saturday en route to a 38-20 win over JT Daniels, CJ Donaldson and the West Virginia Mountaineers. Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns jumped out to a 28-0 lead against West Virginia and although they were outscored 20-10 after that point, the Longhorns did enough early to ensure that game was never in doubt. Sark was really creative as a playcaller utilizing Xavier Worthy all over the field, even at quarterback with a 33 yard touchdown throw to Jatavion Sanders. Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson continued to do Bijan and Roschon things and the explosive tight end, JT Sanders continued to make a strong case for being one of the best tight ends in the country, blocking and receiving wise. On the defensive side, they played fast and sound. This is a defense that had three sacks, four tackles for loss, and 7 pass deflections! Players like Demarvion Overshown, Jaylan Ford, and D'shawn Jamison were dominant on Saturday but really this defense was elite as a whole and have been in their four home games thus far, where the Longhorns are only giving up 17 points a game and haven't allowed more than 20 points to any of their four opponents. I was very vocal that this was a must win game for the Longhorns and win they did, ahead of arguably their biggest game of the season in the Red River Shootout against the Oklahoma Sooners and Brent Venables. However in football, you have to move on and that's what this Texas team plans to do against the West Virginia Mountaineers tomorrow. It doesn't seem as though Quinn Ewers will play, and the status of Xavier Worthy is up in the air. Will Hudson Card, Bijan Robinson and company be enough to hold off JT Daniels, Bryce Ford-Wheaton, and CJ Donaldson, or will Texas suffer back to back losses ahead of the Red River Showdown against the Oklahoma Sooners. There has been a lot of talk about Steve Sarkisian and his failure to assert himself as a great head coach 16 games in his tenure. Will he start to turn the corner tomorrow against Neal Brown who may be on the hottest seat in America. Although these two teams are at the very bottom of the Big 12, you should still expect to see a ton of fireworks in this matchup tomorrow. Luke Wiggs who grew up in Morgantown and attended West Virginia stops by the show to tell you everything you need to know about the team Texas will line up against tomorrow. We definitely had to take a little bit of a break and regroup after that Texas Tech loss on Saturday, so we decided to pivot to talk about recruiting in today's episode. John Garcia, Director of Football Recruiting at Sports Illustrated picked the perfect time to come back from "Paternity Leave". Texas has a strong 2023 recruiting class lined up with some heavyweight names committed such as Arch Manning, Cedric Baxter and Johntay Cook. Many Texas fans believe this will be the next iteration of the triplets, with the current ones being Quinn Ewers, Bijan Robinson and Xavier Worthy. Nonetheless, these talented players from the 2023 class are now in their senior years of high school and we have seen a ton of growth from a lot of future Longhorns. John Garcia Jr. stops by the show to talk about the leaps and bounds players like Arch Manning, Johntay Cook and Cedric Baxter have made from their junior to senior seasons. Additionally, we have to talk about Deandre Moore, the talented receiver out of John Bosco in California that is currently committed to Louisville but heavily considered the University of Texas before making his decision. After that, I ask John Garcia Jr. to give his honest assessment of Steve Sarkisian and this Texas Longhorn football team through the first four weeks of the season. How did Texas lose to Texas Tech?

I said when Quinn Ewers went down, that I didn't have enough data to be confident that Hudson Card or Charles Wright could go into Lubbock and beat the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Even though Hudson Card was named the starting quarterback on Saturday, I still could have not predicted that Texas would have lost to Texas Tech 37-34 on Saturday in overtime. Steve Sarkisian is now 7-9 in his first sixteen games at the University of Texas. This Texas team has now blown five halftime leads, five fourth quarter leads, and four double digit leads in his nine losses at the 40 acres. I love Sark but that is completely unacceptable. The running game with Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson has got to get going. Playmakers like Xavier Worthy and Jordan Whittington have got to get going on the outside. This defense led by Pete Kwiatkwoski and Gary Patterson are going to have to be better on that side of the ball. Demarvion Overshown and Keondre Coburn are going to have to be better at generating a pass rush and making teams uncomfortable. Coming into this game, Texas Tech fans were calling for Donovan Smith to be benched. So of course Donovan Smith, had the game of his career against Texas. Coming into this game Donovan Smith had thrown five interceptions with two pick sixes, and they didn't force a turnover. A quarterback that has been sacked 11 times, was only sacked twice on 56 passing attempts. Ultimately, this Longhorn team just has to be better overall if they want to make it to the Big 12 championship game. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Currently, Texas goes into this game with a big question mark. Will it be Hudson Card or Quinn Ewers at quarterback? One of the strengths of this Texas Tech team is their defensive line. How will Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson do in that matchup? Will Quinn or Hudson be able to hit Xavier Worthy on the deep ball when Sark draws up the shots? Can the Longhorns defense contain Donovan Smith, Tahj Brooks and Sorodrick Thompson tomorrow to win in a tough road environment? With the Texas Longhorns moving to the SEC, this may be the last time Texas plays Texas Tech in Lubbock for a very long time. Texas Tech has always been a very tough place to play, but tomorrow is going to have a little extra juice on it. How will this Texas team look in their first road game of the season against a team that wants nothing more to send Texas packing with a loss back to Austin, Texas. What we've learned about Texas Football

Ain't this what you been waiting for? You ready? *Beat plays* .. I used to pray for times like this to shine like this so I had to ... sorry I got carried away. The moment we've all been waiting for is hear, Texas has entered the Big 12 portion of their schedule and it opens up in Lubbock this Saturday against the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Before we can get to where we are going however, we have to look back at where we have been. Through the first three weeks of the season, Texas beat Louisiana-Monroe, UTSA and lost to the Alabama Crimson Tide. What did we learn about this football team during that time? We've seen Quinn Ewers, Bijan Robinson, and Xavier Worthy make splash plays but how have the rest of those units looked. Kelvin Banks has been heralded as one of the best freshman in the country, but how have Christian Jones and the rest of that offensive line done so far? How have players like Demarvion Overshown and D'shawn Jamison done on the defensive side of the ball? How has this team responded to adversity in comparison to last season? Are they playing harder? How have the additions of Gary Patterson, Brennan Marion and Tashard Choice impacted this football team? Find all of that out and more on the next episode of Locked on Longhorns. Texas vs. UTSA Preview

"Don't let Alabama beat you twice" - Locked on Big 12 host Josh Neighbors. Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns Football Team will try their hardest to not let that happen as Jeff Traylor and the UTSA RoadRunners led by Frank Harris come to town. What does Texas need to do to win what many are calling a "trap game"?  @Texas Homer  joins Locked on Longhorns to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of this UTSA team. If Texas has to start Charles Wright, how can Sark make sure he is the most comfortable and get out of this game with a win? This defense is currently ranked 50th in the nation and are only giving up fifteen points per game at this point. Can they bring the same intensity they had in the Alabama game and carry this team to victory until Quinn Ewers come back? How will playmakers such as Bijan Robinson and Xavier Worthy impact this team while their starting quarterback is out? Also, we have seen a few times in Steve Sarkisian's recent media availability that he has gotten a little snarky with the media. Homer and I react to Sark challenging the media for asking him who will be starting at quarterback on Saturday. The Longhorns have the lofty goal of making and winning a Big 12 championship in December. Although the game against UTSA doesn't ultimately affect that goal with a win or loss, you ultimately want to go into conference play, playing your best football. The Longhorns can get back to doing that tomorrow with a win over a tough Group of 5 team. Longhorns by 13 points. HookEm Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Quinn Ewers out 4-6 Weeks

When it rains it pours. Not only did Texas suffer an emotional loss against Alabama but they also suffered another emotional loss. Their starting quarterback, Quinn Ewers is scheduled to be out four to six weeks with a "clavicle sprain" and Hudson Card is dealing with a high ankle sprain that makes not having your top two quarterbacks against UTSA a real possibility and maybe even longer than that. Not to mention D'shawn Jamison and Bijan Robinson are also dealing with injuries suffered in the Alabama game. We know that Sark has said on multiple occasions that their goal this year is to play on Dec. 3rd in Arlington for the Big 12 championship game. To do that, this team is going to have to respond to adversity and continue to keep this team afloat without Quinn Ewers. Players like Xavier Worthy, Bijan Robinson and Jordan Whittington are going to have to carry this football team on offense. Kelvin Banks and Christian Jones are going to have to continue to dominate on the offensive line. The defense is going to have to continue to fly to the ball in ways that we have seen them do against Louisiana Monroe and Alabama thus far. Players like Demarvion Overshown, Barryn Sorrell, and Keondre Coburn have flashed thus far. Can they continue to dominate on that side of the ball until Quinn Ewers comes back and this football team can be carried by this offense again. Texas is clearly the most talented team in the Big 12. Although the Big 12 is going to be tough, with a healthy Quinn Ewers, there is no reason this Longhorn football team should not be in the Big 12 championship game in December. Can Sark steady the ship with Hudson Card or Charles Wright at QB? Can the offensive skill positions still dominate without a bonafide NFL talent at the helm? And how long will Quinn Ewers be out and how will this time perform without him. We'll find out soon enough. Hook Em Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! What a game and what a rollercoaster of emotions Longhorn Nation. Who would have thought that your Texas Longhorns would be 84 seconds away from beating the number one team in the nation in the Alabama Crimson Tide. We did. Nobody believed in us but us. That was an amazing experience and speaking from someone who was at the game I don't know if DKR has ever been that loud. It's also clear how much that crowd environment affected Bryce Young and the Crimson Tide on Saturday. The last time we played Alabama there was a ton of what ifs, starting with what would have happened if Colt McCoy would have stayed healthy in that game. Then in the craziest fashion, Quinn Ewers was knocked out of the game in the first quarter against the Alabama Crimson Tide and the offense was never the same after that. In a game where the spread for Alabama was 20+ points, Texas held Alabama to 20 points total. Xavier Worthy and Jordan Whittington made some big catches, and although Bijan Robinson could never get his dominant ground game going, he still finished the game with 130 yards from scrimmage. For all the talk about what Will Anderson and Dallas Turner would do to this offensive line, true freshman up front in Kelvin Banks and Cole Hutson more than held their own against a vicious Alabama front. Right tackle Christian Jones was the highest graded offensive lineman for the Longhorns. On the defensive side, the front 7 made a ton of splash plays. Alabama's offensive line isn't as great as it was in year's past but that doesn't change what this defense was able to accomplish against the Crimson Tide on Saturday. & we have to talk about the referees who ultimately decided one of the biggest games of the year. Battle of the Blue Bloods: Texas vs. Alabama

We are approximately 48 hours away from one of the biggest games of the year in college football. Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide face off against Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns on Saturday in DKR. The reigning Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young takes on the young redshirt freshman Quinn Ewers. Bijan Robinson takes the field against talented Georgia Tech transfer Jahmyr Gibbs. Xavier Worthy goes to battle against Jordan Battle and Koolaid McKinstry. Will Anderson and Dallas Turner look to sack Quinn Ewers by dominating their matchups against Kelvin Banks and Christian Jones. Alabama transfers Keilan Robinson and Agiye Hall look to validate their decisions to come to the Lone Star State by beating their old universities in this historic matchup between two blue bloods, Alabama and Texas. The last two times these teams faced off; it was in the 2009 National Championship game where Colt McCoy took the field for the last time as a Longhorn. Unfortunately, in this game Colt McCoy only threw two passes and the Crimson Tide rolled to victory starting a dynasty in which they have won five national championships and have never lost less than ten games in a season. Alabama has lost 17 games total since they beat Texas in the 2009 National Championship. Alabama has won more games by 24 plus points since 2009 than Texas has won total games in that span. Alright, I'll stop piling on. But since the Crimson Tide knocked Colt McCoy out of the game we haven't been right since. That's why Texas has to get revenge on Saturday. That's why this team has to reassert themselves as a force in college football. And that's why they'll shock the world on Saturday. Hook Em Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! How Texas can Beat Alabama

Yeah, I think my takes are getting a little spicier day by day. All offseason, I maintained that Alabama was too good for Texas to beat. I've maintained that this game would be a barometer for Steve Sarkisian and his team to see where they were, but that their biggest focus needed to be on conference play and winning the Big 12. Sark said as much this week, when he "downplayed" the matchup between the Longhorns and his former boss, Nick Saban. When asked about the game, Sark brought up wanting to be in the Big 12 championship game in December and how this game had no bearing on that. The oddsmakers have deemed that Texas are 20 point underdogs to the Crimson Tide. So all hope should be lost right? Wrong. For all the talk about what is supposed to happen, nothing has actually happened. Quinn Ewers, Bijan Robinson, and Xavier Worthy will look to go out at DKR on Saturday and shock the world, to beat Bryce Young, Will Anderson and the #1 Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday. With former Alabama coaches such as Sark, Jeff Banks and Kyle Floood, and players like Agiye Hall, Keilan Robinson and Jahleel Billingsley wearing burnt orange, this sure seems to be one for the ages. Even Fox Noon Kickoff and College Gameday are attending the event in Austin so you know it's going to be a good time. The legend Lee Corso. Joel Klatt and Gus Johnson calling the game. The rematch from the 2009 National Championship game where Colt McCoy threw two passes and ripped the hearts out of every Longhorn fan nationwide. If I don't stop now I'll never stop but as I get closer to this game on Saturday. I can't help but to think that team in the burnt orange gon have something to say about it. #HookEm Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Texas Football vs. Bama Scouting Report

It's Alabama Week! The Alabama Crimson Tide have been the gold standard of college football for a decade plus. Since 2008, the Crimson Tide have not had a season where they won less than 10 games. That has also included a bunch of national championships, the first one coming against ... Colt McCoy and the Texas Longhorns. The last time Alabama won a National Championship was in 2020, and their offensive coordinator and play-caller was ... Steve Sarkisian. Not to mention current Texas Longhorn coaches, Jeff Banks and Kyle Flood also came from Tuscaloosa as well. Prior to Jimbo Fisher from Texas A&M and Kirby Smart from Georgia defeating Nick Saban last season, his assistants had not had much success against him. Sark looks to become the third former Nick Saban assistant to defeat him on Saturday. To do that, he's going to need huge contributions from his triplets in Quinn Ewers, Bijan Robinson and Xavier Worthy. Pieces like Ja'Tavion Sanders, Brenen Thompson and Casey Cain are going to have to be difference makers in the receiving game. Kelvin Banks is going to have to hold his own against arguably the best player in college football, Will Anderson. On the defensive side, Texas has to face off against the reigning Heisman Trophy winner in Bryce Young. They also have a very talented dual threat running back in Jahymir Gibbs who transferred over from Georgia Tech. Bryce is a wizard in the pocket with his pocket presence and his movement and bringing him down is going to be really tough. Can D'shawn Jamison provide a splash play similar to the one he did against Louisiana Monroe with the pick six in the third quarter? Can Demarvion Overshown continue to dominate off the edge in a hybrid Micah Parsons type role. Find out all of the answers to these questions and more with Locked on SEC host  @Locked On SEC  Chris Gordy. This has been the scouting report, Hook Em Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! While the usual suspects such as Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson scored, D'shawn Jamison contributed to two non-offensive touchdowns, and Xavier Worthy showed his explosiveness, it was the breakout game for Ja'tavion Sanders that may have stolen the show for the offense. On the defensive side, Texas looked amazing with the play of Barryn Sorrell and Demarvion Overshown. Keondre Coburn also had a dominant presence in the middle. Freshman such as Kelvin Banks, Cole Hutson and Jaylon Guilbeau showed the world they are ready to compete today! Texas - Louisiana Monroe Football Preview

The Texas Longhorns football team plays a game tomorrow. Not in 90 days, not in 60 days, but tomorrow. We've made it folks. All offseason, Texas fans had to deal with the stench that was left from the Longhorns going 5-7 in the first season of Steve Sarkisian's tenure at the 40. Coming into this season, there were major question marks personnel wise and the need for fresh blood on the coaching staff as well. With new electricity in the building on the coaching staff in the form of Brennan Marion, Tashard Choice and Gary Patterson alongside big-time offseason additions in Quinn Ewers, Agiye Hall, Isiah Neyor, Kelvin Banks, Justice Finkley and more, there is optimism in Austin that things may turn around for the Longhorns in 2022. The first game on the Texas schedule this season comes against the University of Louisiana Monroe Warhawks. The Longhorns should win this game pretty easily, however there will be some very interesting storylines to look out for in this game. Quinn Ewers will be starting in his first meaningful football game since 2020, how will he look at quarterback? 57 out of 85 scholarship players on this football team are freshman or sophomores. Depending on the score, when does Sark and his staff decide to start rotating in younger players on the depth chart to get some valuable reps? How does the defense look against an inferior opponent after not having a great showing in 2021? Will Sark open up the playbook against Louisiana Monroe or will he keep some things in his back pocket in preparation for the Alabama Crimson Tide? This is a Texas team that has aspirations of making the Big 12 championship game in December. Although it's cliche, this team truly has to take things one game at a time. That starts with taking care of business against an inferior opponent tomorrow in Louisiana Monroe. Will Texas cover the -38.5 points? How many points will Texas score? I'm not sure I have a definitive answer to either of those two questions. However, the only two numbers that truly matter are 1-0. Cheers to better days ahead at the 40 acres ladies and gentlemen. Our mental health is now officially in the hands of that team that wears burnt orange and white on Saturdays. Hook Em Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Do you smell that? No? Just me? Okay. Well I smell the beautiful smell of college football being back and your Texas Longhorns football team being two days away from taking the field against Louisiana Monroe. And then Alabama. And so on and so forth. Things didn't go Steve Sarkisian's way in 2021. He's looking to fix that in 2022, with the help of his three offensive superstars: Quinn Ewers, Bijan Robinson and Xavier Worthy. This team that went 5-7 last year has improved tremendously in terms of talent at all levels. Quarterback, Wide Receiver, Tight End, Running Back and Offensive Line all seem to be improved for the Texas Longhorns with additions like Kelvin Banks and Cole Hutson and the return of players like Jordan Whittington and Roschon Johnson. The defense was ranked in the triple digits last year which is not ideal. However, with additions to personnel between the recruiting class and the transfer portal, and new blood in the coaching room in the form of Gary Patterson, this defense should be much improved. So if the offense has improved and the defense has improved, then the Texas Longhorns should be very much improved as a whole. How many games will an improved Texas Longhorns football team win in 2022? You've come to the right place to find out. Kyle Umlang, the #1 Aggie Hater in the world, joins the show to help me pick who wins each game on the Texas schedule one by one this year. Bijan for Heisman? Worthy for Biletnikoff?

Texas has had their share of special runningbacks at the 40 acres over the years. Heisman trophy winners like Earl Campbell and Ricky Williams are the first to come to mind, but even players like Priest Holmes and Jamaal Charles are part of the reason that many (mostly in Austin) have dubbed The University of Texas (Running Back U). One player whose name will forever be etched in stone at the 40 is Bijan Robinson who has been dynamic since the day he came to Texas from Arizona. He grew up idolizing Reggie Bush, and when you watch him you see a lot of Reggie in his game. He has the power and speed combo which makes great runningbacks, but his ability to cut on a dime, a devastating spin move, and soft hands out of the backfield make him the most dangerous running back in America. Does Bijan Robinson have a chance to win the Heisman trophy this year? Our resident expert, John Garcia Jr. of Sports Illustrated stops by to discuss. Let's transition to the wide receiver position where we have seen the likes of Roy Williams, Limas Sweed, Jordan Shipley and company. Xavier Worthy, freshman All-American, is looking to add his name to that class. Although he introduced himself to the world against the Oklahoma Sooners, taking the very first offensive play of the game to the house, Texas fans saw they had a special playmaker in Worthy from the very first game of the schedule. Worthy had 981 yards last year and 12 touchdowns, and asserted himself as one of the best playmakers in the country. Coming into this year, Xavier Worthy is one of the wide receivers that is on the Biletnikoff watch, the award given to the best receiver in the country. Does X have a shot at the award? Regardless of they win them or not, you can expect fireworks from two of the best offensive players in the country in Bijan Robinson and Xavier Worthy. As we sit 9 days away from the Texas Football season, there are still a lot of questions to be answered. About this football team is a given, but also we have some key questions about key personnel and members of the coaching staff at the University of Texas. One of those key questions ... what are the expectations for Steve Sarkisian heading into his second season as the head coach at the 40 acres. John Garcia Jr., Director of Football Recruiting at Sports Illustrated and curator of the SI99, joins the show to discuss what we need to see as a collective in 2022 from Steve Sarkisian. We also talk about the Red River Rivalry being the biggest matchup on the schedule for the Longhorns and what the first iteration of Sarkisian and Venables of the Oklahoma Sooners should look like this season. Next we talk about the quarterback who Steve Sarkisian has attached his success too, Quinn Ewers. Everything we're saying about Quinn Ewers at this point is projection, because we have not seen him throw a meaningful pass since he was at Southlake Carroll. What will everyone be saying about the talented gunslinger at the conclusion of this season? In addition to that, we talk about newcomers that should have a huge impact on the 40 this season like Kelvin Banks, Cole Hutson, Savion Red, Ethan Burke, JT Sanders, Jahleel Billingsley and more. The expectations range for this Texas Football team. I have seen people say this will be a 4-8 football team (yes, i know) and I've also seen people say this football team will be 11-1 (yes, I know). I'm somewhere in the middle (kinda) with my projection being 9-3 but i guess i could live with 8-4. Either way, if the eyes of Texas are upon you, then the eyes of the world are on the university of Texas. HookEm Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! How Sark can make Quinn Ewers comfortable this season

Through conversations I have had with Longhorn Nation about Quinn Ewers, two themes continue to develop more than others. Arm talent and growing pains. We understand that they're are going to be a lot of splash plays in Austin Texas this year, but we also understand that there will be some growing pains as well when implementing a new quarterback who is essentially a true freshman. Throughout the course of the season, Quinn Ewers will naturally develop and get better at the position because of experience. Once he gets more comfortable, you will start to see the splash plays more and more, and the growing pains less and less. So what can Steve Sarkisian, the leader of this ship, do to make sure that Quinn Ewers can be comfortable early on? That's what we discuss on today's episode of Locked on Longhorns. To me, its simple. The threat of Bijan Robinson getting the ball is going to carry this offense early on. Whether it is through the run pass option, playaction passes or bootlegs, these simplify the reads for the quarterback by threatening the ball being given to arguably the best offensive weapon in the country. Also, I think Steve Sarkisian should dial up deep shots early and allow Quinn to take them. Maintaining early leads this year will also be a key to make sure Quinn Ewers is comfortable. Next we talk about a season that should represent hope for the longhorns this year. With games against the Alabama Crimson Tide, Baylor Bears, Oklahoma Sooners and Oklahoma State Cowboys on the schedule, we will find a lot out about Quinn Ewers development and where he is at certain points of the season. Last but not least, Keondre Coburn said Byron Murphy is the best defensive player on this team. He's been my breakout candidate since April. What will a strong season from the true sophomore on the interior defensive line who is looking to improve on a rough 2021 season. Hook Em Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Football is a team sport and nothing can be accomplished without the team. Nothing can be accomplished without your brothers. So it made perfect sense for me to bring on your favorite set of brothers to talk about Quinn Ewers and this Texas Football team this season. Jeremy and Clint Lochaby of @Texas Football Talk join me to discuss the massive bomb that Sark (really the SID) dropped yesterday, announcing that Quinn Ewers would be the starting quarterback for this football team. We talk about ultimately why this decision was made, and what Quinn Ewers brings to the table that maybe Hudson Card does not. Also we talk about expectations for the young gunslinger, who has drawn comparisons to the likes of Brett Favre, Tony Romo, and Patrick Mahomes. How many touchdowns will Quinn Ewers throw compared to interceptions this season? Football is a contact sport and that means that Hudson Card is one hit away from getting significant playing time this season. What does the decision to name Quinn as the starter mean for him, and possibly Maalik Murphy and Arch Manning moving forward at the 40 acres. If by that point you get tired of hearing all about the offense, then we mix in some defensive talk as well. What do the expectations for the defensive side of the ball look like this year? Steve -Sarkisian has had a dominant offseason by all accounts and that includes two very high ranking recruiting classes headlined by Kelvin Banks and Arch Manning. Who will stand out from the 2022 recruiting class this season on the field on offense and defense. Lastly, as the Texas team takes the field today for the second scrimmage, we talk about what it means for the team moving forward. Hook Em to you all. A breakfast edition of Locked on Longhorns.
