Gil's Arena Previews The 1st Round of The NBA Draft as Gilbert Arenas & The Gil's Arena Crew break down a HUGE night for the NBA as they welcome in the next class of future superstars. They highlight the biggest star of the night in Cooper Flagg as the Duke phenom looks to join the Dallas Mavericks as the #1 pick and react to NBA legends like Allen Iverson and Kendrick Perkins calling him a generational hooper before he even sets foot on an NBA Court. They also continue the conversation on Ace Bailey skipping pre-draft workouts and get real on how his decision to try and pick where he will play could cause him to slip in tonight's draft. Next, they react to The Boston Celtics continuing to purge their championship roster after trading Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday in back to back days to get under the NBA's 2nd Apron and debate if the C's should continue their teardown with another big move of trading Jaylen Brown or Derrick White or let this team try and compete until Jayson Tatum returns from his torn achilles. They then react to Kyrie Irving agreeing to a longterm extension to remain with the Dallas Mavericks as he rehabs from his torn ACL and debate if Nico Harrison will get the last laugh from the Luka Doncic trade as his team is set with a core of Cooper Flagg, Kyrie and Anthony Davis for the next few seasons, before examining the Kevin Durant trade from the perspective of the Phoenix Suns and discussing the team's next move to try and build around Devin Booker and Jalen Green. Finally, the Gil's Arena Crew crashes out on Stephen A Smith's list of Top 5 players for next season and gives their own breakdown of the best players in the NBA next season. Carl and Mike come back with more Hawks talk and agree in Onsi Saleh doing a good job in his first draft as the team's general manager as he was acquired Asa Newell with the 23rd overall pick and an unprotected 2026 unprotected first round pick. As they discuss, they agree the Hawks now have a nice core group of young players to build around even if the future of the team does not include Trae Young.
The Knicks are inactive while Kristaps Porzingis is traded to the Atlanta Hawks. Ahead of tonight's NBA Draft, the Nets have five first-round picks, and two Rutgers players are projected to be top-five selections. In baseball, the Mets' bullpen continues to struggle, blowing a 3-0 lead, while pitcher Sean Manaea has a setback with an elbow injury. The Yankees also lost in extra innings, and a debate over a potential no-hitter sparked a dispute between Shaun Morash and Mike Francesa. The hour ended with a mention of Aaron Rodgers' interview on his private life and a Golf.com video about Gio.
The offseason is officially here and the Big Dogs have got their suits on and are ready to take the reigns of every squad with a first round pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. Working together, Matt & Jordan combine forces to make their selections for how they feel each team SHOULD be drafting.(Apologies, there was a tech issue on Jordan's end and his audio did not record for the outro, enjoy a couple farts instead)
Gil's Arena Reacts To The 1st BIG MOVE Of The NBA Offseason as Gilbert Arenas & The Gil's Arena Crew react to the Boston Celtics tearing down their championship core and sending Jrue Holiday to the Portland Trailblazers in exchange for Anfernee Simons and 2nd Round Picks. They break down what this trade means for Boston as they know have to navigate next season without 2 key pieces on their roster in Holiday & Jayson Tatum and debate if the C's are still a threat in the NBA's Eastern Conference. They also break down Jrue's role on a young Portland Trailblazers squad and discuss if he's enough to turn the team into a contender this season. Next, they welcome Super Bowl Champion and host of FS1's Speak Keyshawn Johnson into the Arena where he gives his take on the breaking news that this will be Aaron Rodgers' final NFL season as the vet prepares to quarterback the Pittsburgh Steelers this season and gives an inside look at his legendary NFL Draft Party in 1996. He also takes us through Paul Pierce walking to 20 miles to work following the Boston Celtics' loss in the NBA Playoffs before breaking down his thoughts on the sale of the Los Angeles Lakers and what that means for Luka Doncic & LeBron James heading into next year. They then react to the OKC Thunder's championship parade and discuss how the small market finals overcame the narrative as Game 7 produced the most watched NBA Finals Game in 6 years. Next they react to Tyrese Haliburton's emotional reaction to his season ending Achilles tear and debate what's next for the Indiana Pacers before giving a post-mortem for the Phoenix Suns following the Kevin Durant trade and discussing the next move for Devin Booker in Phoenix. Finally, Gil reacts to Eddie Johnson & Draymond Green coming at him for his take on ring culture on First Take and offers a hostile response to both legendary hoopers. Well, that was unexpected. And awesome. In a year where Ohio State was supposed to dominate the second night of the draft (rounds 2-3) -- which will still happen to some degree -- the Buckeyes actually had more first rounders than anyone else with four. Most analysts only had wide receiver Emeka Egbuka and offensive tackle Josh Simmons projected as first rounders. Both of them did go in the opening round, and so did offensive lineman Donovan Jackson and defensive tackle Tyleik Williams. Ohio State has now produced 95 first-round draft picks all time, the most of any program. What will tonight look like? What else is going on in the world of OSU football? Jonah Booker and Dave Biddle discuss that and much more on the Friday 5ish.
