This week Podcast of Champions hosts Ryan Abraham and David Woods are licking their wounds after going a collective 1-7 picking Pac-12 games against the spread, with Dave coming in at a perfect 0-4. Each week the Conference of Champions makes less and less sense, with teams looking great one week and terrible the next. Both Ryan and Dave breakdown the four games in the Pac-12 that featured another beatdown for the Trojans in the Coliseum, another record-setting loss for the Arizona Wildcats and a Beavers squad that was flying high and has now come back down to Earth. The guys also preview and make their picks against the spread for week 7 with USC and Oregon State on their BYE weeks. This week Ryan and Dave picked 4 of the 5 games differently, so their could be some fireworks when we get the results this weekend. Today, we discuss the college football history of the Arizona Wildcats. This program has a propensity to be spectacular. One coach with a perfect record, one stunning upset over a Number 1 team, one Desert Swarm, one summersault, one ill-timed penalty to secure a stunning loss, one well-timed penalty to secure a stunning tie, two 5-0 seasons, one exceptional well-balanced team, one fierce linebacker, one record setting running back, one immovable force in the middle, one in-state rival, one 3-year stretch with nothing but shutouts, and of course, one live Bobcat. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jay-abramson/support
Arizona Wildcats football is back after a much-needed break. Will Jedd Fisch get his first win against his old team? Former Wildcat All-American Scooby Wright joins us to chat about Wildcat football past and present, and current Arizona running back/Chandler High School alum Drake Anderson stops by to discuss the team's mentality heading into the UCLA game. Also, thoughts about the men's basketball Red-Blue Game and the newly released women's basketball schedule.
This week the guys are joined by former Arizona Wildcat, former teammate of Duncan's, and current Atlanta Hawk, Solomon Hill. They talk about what makes the Heat organization so special, Solo's ability to be a trusted voice in any locker room, and the friendships he has made during his time in the NBA. Duncan and Solo then reflect on the Orlando bubble, making a run to the Finals, and Solo explains how the Hawks' run to the Eastern Conference Finals last year helped the young core in Atlanta grow. The guys then shift to talk about the pressure that comes with getting a “public payday” and how it changes things for a player when they earn a big contract. They have an incredible, honest conversation about how money is viewed in the NBA by fans, franchises, and between players. Lastly, the conversation turns to Solo's activity on Twitter (he might be the best tweeter in the NBA) and his role in pushing social justice initiatives forward. Before that conversation, Duncan and Davis discuss the Heat's first preseason game, tease a new segment, give some advice to fans who want to learn some high-level basketball lingo, and more.
