It's a numbers game on KKHI today as gas prices, arrests, deportations and polls all make Trump look like, well, Trump.  This is getting so good.    A famous singer complains about the White House posting an AI video of the president in action set to the singer's song.   Pro Football Focus has been the most respected football stat operation in America for years but it may have real trouble ahead.  Wait until you hear the Mahomes stat from Sunday's game that should just end the stat forever.    Texas Tech has pulled the plug on tortilla tossing at games.  But with the stupid rule the Big 12 has, and no separate rule in place at KU's stadium, why wouldn't KSU students bring thousands of tortillas this week and toss them all over the place after the Jayhawks' disgraceful scandal in Lubbock two weeks ago?    The World Series is set after a dramatic game seven in the American League.  Former KU guard Christian Braun hits the jackpot and our Final Final is a famous actor we like talking about the role of a lifetime he missed.

Syracuse football head coach Fran Brown is sticking with Rickie Collins as his starting quarterback out of the Orange's bye week against Pittsburgh.  Can Collins improve from generating nearly 19 points fewer against Power-Four competition for the Orange offense?  According to Pro Football Focus, Collins has a turnover-worthy play percentage of 7.5 percent this season, which means that 7.5 percent of his drop backs this season have resulted in plays were likely to end in a turnover. That is the worst rate in the country among quarterbacks who have at least 100 drop backs this season. Despite playing in just four games and only starting two, Collins is tied for 19th in the country with five interceptions, according to PFF. Brent Axe discusses that and how Fran Brown handled a question about his name coming up for bigger jobs (in this case Penn State) at a recent press conference.  Axe also chats with Chris Peak from Panther Lair to get a preview of the Pitt Panthers squad that comes to the JMA Dome on Saturday. Peak discusses how the Panthers made a significant quarterback change and how it has changed the trajectory of its season, the SU-Pitt series and what (if anything) SU can exploit in a matchup they come into as 10.5-point underdogs.  Music provided by Rumble Strip https://www.youtube.com/@UCJ3LCvPiy9YUP-SJntMs_9g  Soundcloud https://soundcloud.com/rumble_strip/it-could-always-be-worse Would like your original music or know of a great band we should feature on Syracuse Sports? Play Episode Listen Later Oct 14, 2025 69:19

Highlights: Terry shares a “moment of wisdom” about venting in emails: tone and humor are lost compared to spoken conversation. Discussion on Browns' offensive struggles against the Steelers: 82 snaps, Quinshon Judkins only played 33 despite being top offensive weapon. Browns ran only 17 times for 65 yards, despite game being close early; heavy reliance on passing (27 passes vs. 11 runs in first three quarters). Missed opportunities: Judkins absent on key goal-line plays; lack of creativity like play-action fakes. Terry suggests Kevin Stefanski looks “shell-shocked” by offensive failures; quotes Stefanski: “Before you start winning, you've got to stop losing.” Offensive line woes highlighted: aging starters (Teller, Bitonio, Pocic, Conklin all 30+); poor Pro Football Focus grades (best was 64.7). Listener email proposes 2026 offseason rebuild: draft tackles, replace veterans,. Receiver issues: Jerry Jeudy drops (7 in 6 games) and costly penalties; Fannin also had key drops despite flashes of talent. Gabriel sacked six times, hit 16 times; Browns threw 58 times including sacks—offensive imbalance and protection failures. Debate on ownership accountability: email argues Haslams should sell; Terry counters owners rarely sell, especially after stadium deal. Terry plugs new book: Why Can't This Team Find a Quarterback? covering Browns' QB struggles since 1999 and ownership dynamics. Mike Tomlin's reaction to Browns trading Joe Flacco to Bengals: “shocking”; Terry and David analyze implications and AFC North competitiveness. Browns' strategy likened to Guardians' “thread the needle” approach—trying to win while developing young players; trade rumors hinted. Positive draft notes: Judkins, Fannin, Schwesinger praised; Tyson Campbell trade seen as promising despite questionable usage vs. DK Metcalf. Special teams bright spot: rookie kicker Andre Szmyt solid after rough opener (3-for-3 in Pittsburgh). Guardians offseason priorities: extend José Ramírez again, pursue right-handed power bat, consider Stephen Kwan's future contract. Cavs preview: season opens Oct. 22; focus on pace, bench depth, unlocking Mobley and Hunter; injury concerns for Garland and Lonzo Ball. Faith column reflections: Terry shares story on visiting graves and human moments in sports. And a closing email from a listener who says baseball isn't the only sport without a clock and with lots of drama. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

The Seahawks put up 35 points on Sunday, but the interior of the offensive line did not grade out well according to Pro Football Focus? What goes into the grading metrics and how does a player like Anthony Bradford get a zero grade in the pass game? We contrast Bradford's performance with Grey Zabel on the opposite side. A mix of the quick game, moving the pocket and some elusiveness form Sam Darnold helped to make this offense shine and performances by AJ Barner and Tory Horton are helping contribute to this offensive success. The conversation shifts to the defensive side, where linebacker and secondary play were notably problematic. Missed tackles and lapses in coverage allowed the Buccaneers to convert multiple third-and-long situations. Up front, the pass rush wasn't effective and that leads to a discussion about potential moves the Seahawks could make. Pursuing Trey Hendrickson from the Bengals could bolster the defensive line, but would the cost be worth it? Are there some other potential trade options the Seahawks should consider? Why can't the Steelers or Vikings go over to Dublin until Friday? Mike told a story about his first Steelers-Vikings game, which are his two favorite teams. The guys think it's odd than an industry like the NFL didn't make sure that every international location had suitable facilities to allow the teams to practice well ahead of time in that city. Mike talked about teams dealing with giving away a home game in favor of playing internationally. Who is in more trouble – the Chiefs or the Ravens, one of which will fall to 1-3 this Sunday? The guys got Mike's reaction to Russell Wilson being benched in NY. How will the Steelers' comp picks be impacted by what has happened to some of their free agents?

Bengals Rumors Going Into Week 2, Shemar Stewart Shines, Zac Taylor Incompetence? NFL Power Rankings

Off The Bench is BACK!  In a gritty 17-16 victory over the Cleveland Browns on September 7, 2025, the Cincinnati Bengals leaned heavily on their defense to secure their first Week 1 win since 2021, despite a sluggish offensive showing. Rookie defensive end Shemar Stewart, the Bengals' first-round pick, made an immediate impact in his NFL debut, showcasing the athleticism that justified his high draft stock. Stewart helped generate a crucial red-zone sack by converging on Browns quarterback Joe Flacco alongside Trey Hendrickson, collapsing the pocket on a third-down play late in the fourth quarter to seal the win. His poise under pressure earned high praise, with Pro Football Focus awarding him a strong rookie grade for his disruptive presence, including a batted pass (later nullified by a flag). After overcoming a contentious holdout and fan skepticism during training camp—where he even accidentally clipped Burrow in practice—Stewart's performance flipped the narrative, proving his value on the edge. Quarterback Joe Burrow, returning from injury concerns, struggled mightily, completing just 14 of 23 passes for a career-low 113 yards and one touchdown. The offense managed only 141 total yards, with a dismal seven yards in the second half, marred by three-and-outs and early-season rust typical of Zac Taylor's teams. Yet Burrow remained optimistic postgame, noting, "We found a way to win. We didn't win any of these games last year, and so usually when you can win a game like this, that's a recipe for success." His leadership as a team captain alongside Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins underscored the Bengals' resilience. Head coach Zac Taylor, entering his seventh season with a historically poor 1-11 record in the first two weeks, celebrated the disciplined effort. "I'm proud of them. The best outcome of this game is 1-0. Forget about the stats," Taylor said, crediting new defensive coordinator Al Golden's unit for limiting Flacco to two interceptions and holding Cleveland to 16 points. Taylor highlighted the rookies' calmness, including Stewart, in a game that tested the team's depth amid injuries. This ugly win signals potential growth, blending Burrow's grit, Stewart's promise, and Taylor's steady hand for a playoff push. In a heartbreaker at Petco Park, the Cincinnati Reds fell 4-3 to the San Diego Padres in 10 innings on September 8, 2025, dealing a blow to their fading wild-card hopes. The Reds jumped to a 3-0 lead against Yu Darvish, powered by TJ Friedl's leadoff homer, Elly De La Cruz's RBI single, and Austin Hays' solo shot. Starter Nick Lodolo delivered a strong outing, but Jackson Merrill's two-run triple in the sixth tied it. The game stayed knotted until the 10th, where reliever Nick Martinez's throwing error on a bunt advanced automatic runner Jake Cronenworth to third. Fernando Tatis Jr. then lofted a sacrifice fly for the walk-off win, his seventh of the season. The loss drops Cincinnati to 72-72, while San Diego (79-65) clings to the NL's second wild-card spot, three games ahead of the Mets. Music from #InAudio: https://inaudio.org/ Track Name Holy (Trap).
