We're back on schedule with one last extra-long dive back into one of the most recognized DCOM franchises of all time: Its finally time to finish Descendants!Mal, Evie, Jay, Carlos, and pretty much every character you liked or didn't like from the previous two movies are back, and most of them don't have nearly as much to do. The alternate Disney character lore gets even more complex and contradictory, and everyone is walking away from this one with a boyfriend. If you enjoy watching these movies with us and listening to our breakdowns, please show some love to the pod and leave us a review (it's a great place to request a DCOM for us to watch next!!)Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/moviesurfingpod)

Hey Movie Surfers! As you know, we have been taking our usual unexpected post-Spooky Season hiatus to deal with the negative repercussions of being real people who can't live in the twisted fantastical realities of DCOMs 24/7. We want to thank you all for your patience and for continuing to listen to old episodes and share the show in our absence. We have missed making the show just as much as you have missed listening to it, and we can't wait to hit the ground running as we go into the winter and the New Year. This sequel follows twin witches Alex and Cameron (Tia and Tamera Mowry) as they try to juggle royal duties, college classes, and boys—all while trying to prevent the return of their evil uncle step-dad Thantos. It's almost time for Spooky Season, so we've decided to bridge the gap with a pseudo-spooky movie: Now You See It. This DCOM tells the story of an aspiring junior TV producer who may have accidentally booked an actual sorcerer on a kids' magic reality show. Now You See It is full of twists and turns and features the talents of heavy-hitters like Aly Michalka and Frank Langella. Tune in now to find out if this ambitious film lives up to the hype, and join us in two weeks for the beginning of our official Spooky Season coverage!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/moviesurfingpod)
Hey Movie Surfers! We're coming to you this week with another classic summer vacation DCOM: The Even Stevens Movie. It's the Even Stevens series finale, and it does not disappoint. We get to follow the wacky Stevens clan on what they THINK is a luxury vacation, but turns out to be a much wilder bonding experience than they bargained for. It's a goofy movie full of unexpected twists, and it's a pretty good time (if we do say so ourselves). Thanks for tuning in, and don't forget to send us your picks for our imminent Spooky Season coverage! In the meantime, enjoy The Even Stevens Movie, and you can join us in two weeks for our coverage of the underrated magical thriller, Now You See It. Hey there, Movie Surfers! Summer may be winding down, but it's only just begun for the stars of Teen Beach Movie. When Brady and Mack get sucked into a 1960's movie musical, they'll have to sing and dance their way back to the real world if there's any hope of saving their relationship. This DCOM was new to both of us, and we had a great time covering it, even if it left us with some troublesome tunes stuck in our heads. Thank you for making July our best month EVER! We are so grateful to all our listeners - new and old - and we hope you enjoy our coverage of Teen Beach Movie! Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/moviesurfingpod)
Hey Movie Surfers-long time no see! We are sorry for the delay, but we are so stoked to be back with a new episode this week! We’ve finally caved and decided to give the people what they want, so fasten your seatbelts for our coverage of High School Musical 2. The good news is that all your favorite characters have returned for the sequel. The bad news is that the East High gang is stuck working summer jobs and it’s kind of a bummer. Will Sharpay win yet another Star Dazzle Award? Will Ryan get the gay backstory we all desire? Will Troy and Gabriella EVER have their first kiss?! There’s only one way to find out! Tune in now, and don’t forget to subscribe to the show and share it with a friend! After all, we’re all in this together. Or something like that. This week, we are making our first foray into Lawrence Brothers territory with The Other Me (2000). In this wild sci-fi film, a young boy accidentally clones himself and discovers there is more to all of us than what meets the eye. He also has to tackle some classic movie goons and save his clone from being turned into a pile of sea monkey eggs in the process. Yes, really. As always, thanks for tuning in, and we hope you enjoy listening to this episode as much as we enjoyed recording it! Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/moviesurfingpod)
Big new, folks! This week officially marks ONE YEAR since we released our first episode! We can't believe we've been making this show for a whole year, but we are so grateful to everyone who has listened and supported us this long! To celebrate this milestone, we've decided to return to the magical land of Auradon to discuss Descendants 2. This sequel follows our favorite reformed villains as they struggle to fit into polite society while simultaneously trying to rescue young King Ben from a bumbling band of teenage pirates. It's yet another classic piece of Kenny Ortega cinema, and we think you'll enjoy it as much as we did! Thank you all SO MUCH for spending your quarantine time with us this past year. We appreciate every single one of you and can't wait to make many, many more episodes for you in the future! Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/moviesurfingpod)
Welcome back, Movie Surfers! As promised, this week we are discussing The Cheetah Girls 2! For anyone who may be unfamiliar, The Cheetah Girls 2 follows all our favorite characters from the first film (minus Toto) as they jet off to Barcelona in the hopes of winning an international amateur talent competition. Along the way, the girls find their devotion to the group tested by distractions like new friends, boys, tapas, and so much more. We have thoroughly enjoyed our time in Cheetah territory, but we are planning to branch out for our next episode, so if you have a movie suggestion, please send it our way! Thanks so much for listening, and we hope you enjoy your trip to Barcelona! Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/moviesurfingpod)
You asked and we answered. This week we are discussing one of the greatest DCOMs of all time, The Cheetah Girls. This cult classic tells the story of a group of teenage girls who find the strength of their friendship tested as they attempt to claw their way to stardom. We had such a blast revisiting this movie, and we hope you do, too! So slip into your comfiest matching track suit and prepare to enjoy the song stylings of the one-the only-The Cheetah Girls. We are entering a whole new era with this week's film, Descendants (2015). It's the most recent film we have covered so far, and it was a film neither of us had seen before. Descendants tells the story of the children of four of the most prolific Disney villains as they try to assimilate into fairytale life while simultaneously wrestling with their evil tendencies. It's a DCOM for a whole new generation, and we had many, many thoughts about it. Listen now and let us know if you're a Descendants fan or if you're only here for the OG movies. Remember to share and subscribe, and we will see you in two weeks for our next episode! Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/moviesurfingpod)
This week we are continuing our Black History Month coverage with a recap of 2000's The Color of Friendship. We both really enjoyed this movie and can honestly say we learned a lot from it! The Color of Friendship tells the (mostly) true story of Congressman Ron Dellums whose family hosted a white South African exchange student at the height of his fight against apartheid. It's a heavy but extremely informative story, and we are very glad Disney chose to make this film. *However,* since we are just a couple of white millennials who haven't experienced racial discrimination/systemic oppression, we would really love to hear what YOU guys think about this movie, so PLEASE feel free to share your thoughts on social media or via the suggestion box on our website! *A big trigger warning is in effect for this movie, as it does contain disturbing depictions and discussions of racial violence and discrimination. Hey Movie Surfers! This week, we are kicking off Black History Month with what is an arguably underrated classic: Up, Up and Away! This movie tells the story of a family of superheroes who must use their combined powers (or lack thereof) to defeat a network of bad guys posing as environmentalists (yes, that really is the plot). It's a funny, heartfelt movie, and Delaney loves it very much no matter what Ben thinks about it. Don't forget to subscribe wherever you're listening, and join us in two weeks when we cover another seminal classic: The Color of Friendship. Happy listening! Welcome back, Movie Surfers! We hope you all enjoyed the holidays and are coping well amidst the craziness of the last couple of weeks. This week we are covering a wholesome film from a simpler time, “Brink!” This movie tells the story of Andy “Brink” Brinker, a self-proclaimed “soul skater” who is struggling to juggle his obligations to his friends, his family, and his passion. This film was highly requested, and we had a great time discussing it! Give it a listen, and let us know what you think. The holidays are upon us, and we couldn't be more thrilled! In this week's episode we are covering 2000's The Ultimate Christmas Present. This feel-good Christmas movie tells the story of a teenage girl named Allie who almost ruins Christmas when she steals Santa's weather machine in the hopes of conjuring up a snow day in Los Angeles. Not to spoil anything, but we think it's safe to say that Ben is now the ultimate fan of The Ultimate Christmas Present, and perhaps you will be, too! Welcome back, Movie Surfers! This week, we are covering 2005's "Go Figure" (not to be confused with the other 2005 figure skating film, "Ice Princess"). "Go Figure" tells the story of aspiring Olymic figure skater, Katelin Kingsford. As crazy as it sounds, Katelin finds herself forced to join a girls' hockey team in order to train with a world-renowned (Russian) figure skating coach. Along the way, Katelin learns the importance of friendship, hard work, and the presence of a reliable toe pick. It's a quintessential DCOM, even if the plot largely depends upon a number of adults blatantly committing fraud. If you're enjoy the show, please remember to subscribe, share, and review! Happy listening, and we will see you in two weeks when we kick off our Holiday DCOM coverage! Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/moviesurfingpod)
Alright, we KNOW this isn't a DCOM, but we feel strongly that the world is in desperate need of a little Will Friedle content. This week, we are discussing "My Date with the President's Daughter (1998)," because we clearly haven't had enough of politics quite yet. For those who may be unfamiliar, "My Date with the President's Daughter" tells the story of an aspiring close-up magician named Duncan who somehow manages to land a date with Hallie Richmond, the President's daughter. It sounds innocent enough, but it turns into an absolutely WILD ride. Take a break from doom-scrolling and have a listen! Subscribe, share, review, and please send us your recommendations for holiday DCOMs! Well folks, we have finally arrived at the big boi. That’s right! This week we are talking about a Disney Channel cult classic, Halloweentown (1998). Halloweentown is quite possibly the best-loved spooky DCOM of all time, and it’s easy to see why. This movie has EVERYTHING: Debbie Reynolds, sweaty ghosts, teen witches, buzzkill moms, werewolf hairdressers, shadow creatures, and so much more. Join us for this ultra-nostalgic walk down memory lane, and try to remember the good old days when you could host a Halloween party without experiencing the crippling fear of death and disease. Spooky season continues this week with 2005's Twitches! This is one of Delaney's favorite Halloween DCOMs, and nothing anyone says will change her mind. Twitches tells the story of twin sisters who are separated at birth only to later discover that they are destined to use their magical powers to save their home kingdom from an evil force called the Darkness. It's a wild ride starring Disney Channel royalty, Tia and Tamera Mowry, and it will make your 10 year-old self wish you were a magical princess. In other news, we are excited to announce that the remainder of our October episodes are SPONSORED by "Candle with a Handle." Candle with a Handle offers mugs and teacups thrifted with love and turned into scented paraffin-soy wax candles. They make the most delightful, transportable candles, and they are offering our listeners an exclusive 10% discount on all of their fall-scented inventory. Spooky season continues this week with our coverage of Phantom of the Megaplex (2000) in which hard-working teen Pete Riley must join forces with his younger siblings to prevent a mysterious phantom from wreaking havoc on an unsuspecting movie theatre. It's officially spooky season, and we are diving right in with 1999's "Don't Look Under the Bed." Boogeymen, rejected imaginary friends, and schoolyard pranks abound in this nightmarish film (which Delaney has actively avoided watching for the last 20 years). Take a stroll with us down this frightening memory lane, and try not to get too scared in the process. Like, subscribe, and don't forget to tune in for all of our upcoming coverage of the greatest Halloween DCOMs. It's the most wonderful time of the year! Okay, okay. We know that technically this isn’t a DCOM. But we have decided to grandfather it in based upon the fact that Hannah Montana is unquestionably part of the Disney Channel Cinematic Universe. Honestly, if we have to give you a plot summary of this film, you’ve probably stumbled upon the wrong podcast. But, as far as Tennessee culture goes, this movie has EVERYTHING: Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus, Taylor Swift, and multiple cameos from Rascal Flatts. So sit back, relax, and join us as we journey through the fictional town of Crowley Corners and discover that life- and we cannot stress this enough- is a climb. We have something pretty wild for you guys this week! We have decided to release our never-before-heard pilot episode in which we discuss 2001's Motocrossed. We recorded this episode pre-quarantine as a sort of test-run for the show, so we were still working out the kinks. But it's such a quality film, we felt it was time to share the coverage with our listeners. If you're not familiar with Motocrossed, here's a quick summary: A teenage girl takes a hefty risk when she stands in for her injured brother in a motocross competition. We are so grateful to those of you who have been tuning in during quarantine, and we hope you enjoy this new/old content from deep inside the Movie Surfing vault! Quick housekeeping note: We have decided to (at least temporarily) shift to releasing new episodes every OTHER week as we begin to return to some semblance of our pre-quarantine lives. We've got two words for you: Milk. Tentacle. That's right! This week we are covering Cow Belles (2006) starring Alyson and AJ Michalka. Overall, this movie feels like an homage to unfettered nepotism, but we cannot deny: it has star power. If you love capitalism, pregnant cows, and copious amounts of yogurt, you will probably enjoy this episode. Probably. Maybe. Who knows? Anway! Give it a listen, and-as always-please remember to subscribe, share, and review! Happy milking!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/moviesurfingpod)
This week we are discussing what we believe to be an underrated DCOM, Jump In! (2007). The executives over at Disney clearly used a random sports generator to build this plot: Aspiring boxer Izzy Daniels surprises himself when he discovers a deep-seated love for competitive Double Dutch. This movie stars Corbin Bleu and Keke Palmer and overall boasts some really excellent performances. We hope you enjoy listening to this episode as much as we enjoyed making it, and if it's been a minute since you've watched Jump In!, we highly recommend revisiting it! Surprise! This week we decided to stay within the Camp Rock Cinematic Universe, so we are discussing Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam. This time around, Camp Rock's future is threatened by the very existence of the new camp across the lake, Camp Star. Will Mitchie be able to save the camp? Will Shane Grey ever get to make out with his girlfriend? Will Alyson Stoner FINALLY get the screen time she deserves? Listen now to find out! Aspiring songwriter Mitchie loves to pop and lock and jam and...wait, wrong movie. Oh well. This week's subject is a film that really doesn't need an introduction: Camp Rock.
