Dove joins the Armchair Expert to discuss the origins of bloomers, realizing she was a stimulus addict at a very young age, and her fear of offending the gooey duck community. “When we're younger, and we're hungry for these opportunities, there's always this tendency to feel like you have to compromise more, or that you need to let somebody else define your value or your worth.” On this episode of Entreprenista, we welcome back the talented Cheval, who was one of our very first guests on the podcast. When we initially connected with Cheval, she was selling bridal dresses as a head designer with her name being used for the collections. As a designer, she brought over 10 bridal product lines to market and dressed noteworthy female icons like Dove Cameron, Chrissy Teigen, and Carrie Underwood. Except, living this dream came with a lofty price when she signed away the right for her name to be trademarked, without first properly consulting legal counsel. After seeking to renegotiate this one-sided contract, her former employers served her with a lawsuit in federal court that forced her out of the trade she loved and prohibited her from using her own name in any business, commerce, or public social media page. Now, life has changed, business has changed, and Cheval has certainly evolved through, what she calls, her reckless optimism and turned it into a responsible optimism. In today's episode, she shares how that original contract is still currently being enforced and interpreted in ways that she never could've imagined. She discusses how she began picking up the pieces to move forward and allow her lesson learned to be of value to someone else. Learn about how this experience inspired the founding of her non-profit called A Girl You Might Know, which aims to foster a community and network that provides a safe and encouraging environment for artists to create without being subjected to unfair terms. And hear how she now finds herself in the shoemaking business, her secrets to resilience, why we should all honor our mistakes, and so much more! We talked about: Resilience and reinvention Overcoming setbacks and finding comfort in community both online and in everyday life Protecting yourself through education and awareness Case law and Understanding the contracts we sign The founding process of nonprofit organizations and foundations Clarifying the mission and character-building moments Creative experimentation in product development The mechanics of warehousing Pop-ups and receiving valuable feedback Approaching business and life with an abundance mindset Members of our Entreprenista League get access to live Office Hours with top founders that have been on our show! The MTV Video Music Awards are back and for the first time in history, only women are nominated in the show's Artist of the Year category. Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Doja Cat, Nicki Minaj, Karol G, and Shakira are contenders for the night's biggest prize. Well, this morning the VMAs announced its final round of presenters, which include A Boogie Wit da Hoodie, Ashante, Billy Porter, Chloe Bailey, Dove Cameron, Fat Joe, Halle Bailey, Nelly Furtado, Tiffany Haddish, Timberland, and Wyclef Jean. It's going to be a good show. It takes place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. It will be hosted by Nicki Minaj. Now, last year, she emceed alongside Lil Wayne and Jack Harlow. This year, she is solo. Because, like I said, it is definitely the year of women. Well, the show also will celebrate 50 years of hip hop with a star-studded, multi-generational finale performance. And by the way, Diddy will receive the Global Icon Award and perform at the VMAs for the first time since 2005. He will become the third recipient of the award, following the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Foo Fighters. It should be, like I said, a great show. Jussie Smollett's drawn-out legal saga has a new chapter. It began this week, as an Illinois appeals court will hear the oral arguments that the former Empire actor's convictions for staging a racist homophobic attack against himself in 2019 and then lying about it to the Chicago police should be just tossed out. If the appeal before the Chicago-based First District Appellate Court fails, Smollett would have to finish his 150-day stint in jail that his trial judge ordered during his 2022 sentencing. Smollett spent six days in jail before his release, pending the outcome of the appeal. There are a lot of things that they are appealing among the long list of arguments in the 76-page written appeal. But the main thing is his lawyers say he has already performed community service and forfeited a $10,000 bond as a part of the 2019 deal with the Cook County State's Attorney's Office to drop the initial charges. Yep, remember that part of it? They had dropped the charges, and then they came back. Who knows? In any case, Jussie will be back in court in Chicago. I know he will be really happy when this chapter of his life is over. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

In this episode, we sat down with the one and only designer and known bridesmaid from "Say Yes To The Dress". She shares more of her challenging story and career and how she came out on the other side. Cheval has become the rebrand, the new vision, and the new mission of what she is accomplishing. We loved hearing more of her story and how she manages her daily routines. About Cheval As the friendly designer and America's bridesmaid on TLC's, “Say Yes to the Dress,” she brought over 10 bridal product lines to market, dressed noteworthy female icons like Dove Cameron, Chrissy Teigen, and Carrie Underwood, and became one of the most sought-after luxury bridal designers in the world (VOGUE'S TOP TEN). In 2017, she entered the tech space by developing and launching a wedding focused emoji app, Holy Matrimoji, that landed in the AppStore's top 100 downloads on its debut. In 2018, she helped secure a licensing deal with Hearts on Fire diamonds becoming their brand ambassador. After 9 years of working under a very one-sided employment contract, her former employer sued her in federal court and gained control of what she believed were her personal social media accounts. She resigned in December of 2020 and under the current preliminary injunction, she is prevented from using her own birth name in any business or commerce or even to publicly identify herself. She is also not receiving commission for her designs that are still being sold, and she is restricted from identifying herself as a designer to the trade in which her former employer competes until August of 2027. Rather than waiting for luck to strike, she has decided to create her own. On August 8th, 2022, she personally, publicly, and professionally changed her name to C H E V A L and opened a new Instagram account, @sheischeval. The public support has inspired her next mission in launching a 501 (c) (3) non profit foundation that provides resources to better protect the interests of young women and creatives during the formative years of their career. She is currently writing a memoire and rebranding under SHE IS CHEVAL. “We're coming to a place in time where life itself is making us go inner world focused.” –Kristin HanggiThere's more than the hero's journey. Kristin Hanggi and I are talking about the heroine's journey and feminine productivity. Kristin is a multi passionate director, writer, producer, artist, and poet, who compares the hero's journey — or the outer world journey — and the heroine's journey — or the inner world journey. The hero's journey is an amazing framework, and when I first heard Kristin speak about the heroine's journey, there was no doubt in my mind, I needed to get her on the podcast. Right now we are living the heroine's journey individually and collectively. We need to heal our feminine and masculine. The creative path will take you to your stuck places. You need to stay in the process to evolve. It's not always comfortable and is often hard. We talk about overcoming limiting beliefs and thoughts of scarcity. Most importantly, Kristin shares the framework that helps navigate our sould's journey. We talk about: The role of mentors in the heroine's journeyThe Dark Night of the Soul and what comes afterSeparation from the feminine, losing connection to the earth and our bodiesThe outward quest for success and spiritual aridness and not feeling fulfilled Healing our relationships with our bodies and the earth and reconnecting to and learning to trust the original wisdom that lives inside Finding the integration or sacred marriage between the masculine and feminineABOUT KRISTINKristin Hanggi is a theater, television, and film director as well as a passionate multi-hyphenate — writer, producer, artist and poet. She is best known for directing and developing the international smash-hit Rock of Ages, which received five Tony Award nominations, including a nomination for Best Direction of a Musical. This week, Jason is joined by entrepreneur, fashion designer, and America's favorite bridal expert on TLC's Say Yes to the Dress, Cheval! Cheval's advanced and diverse experience in the bridal industry made her one of the most sought after luxury bridal designers in the world, earning her opportunities to dress female icons such as Carrie Underwood, Chrissy Teagan, and Dove Cameron. After a decade of working her way up in the industry, Cheval found herself in the legal hot seat after being sued by her employer to gain control of what she believed was her own brand and social media accounts, forcing her to give up much of her hard work she had put in throughout her career. She made the ultimate boss pivot and decided to utilize her entrepreneurial skills to create her own brand under the name Cheval, a powerhouse advocate for artists and creatives. Cheval gives insight to how much she identified as a wedding dress designer and looking at “former” wedding dress designer as a new chapter, how having your name with the signature line behind a design in bridal makes it a lot more special, why reputation is important, and why the secret sauce is the human connection. Cheval also reveals that Say Yes to the Dress and her former employer are separate from each other, the behind the scenes of her lawsuit, how she is able to utilize her talents in the shoe industry, and the non-profit organization she started, A Girl You Might Know Foundation, that supports young females & creatives during the formative times in their careers. Which element was the hardest to overcome? What does being head of design entail? Which shoes are the most successful? How much has gone into her legal battle? Cheval reveals all that and so much more in another episode you can't afford to miss! Be sure to follow the Trading Secrets Podcast on Instagram & join the Facebook

Schmigadoon is back on Apple TV! The second season takes us in a slightly different direction, and today Peter & Nathan explore the theology of the musicals being lovingly "spoofed" by "Schmicago" and wonder what it means that "every day can be a happy beginning." (By the way: if you missed our episode on Schmigadoon Season 1, you can listen here, or wherever you like to listen!) We talk about: – The power of parables, and how stories can (and can't) transform us. – The theology of the Broadway musicals of the 60s & 70s, steeped in sex & nihilism, and how Schmicago navigates – and ultimately rejects – that theology. – We explore the show's ending, and what kind of theology is implicit in the final number. You'll hear: Cecily Strong, Keegan-Michael Key, Kristen Chenoweth, Alan Cumming, Tituss Burgess, Dove Cameron, Aaron Tveit and the cast of Schmigadoon Season 2. Continue the conversation with Peter (@pgeinvan) and Nathan (@nathan_lerud) on Twitter, and follow the Gospel of Musical Theatre on Instagram or Twitter @gospelofmt.
Drew and Ross Mathews are serving the news sunny-side up, including stories like the study that found Spring and Summer are a lot of women's most confident seasons and the new TikTok trend of ecstatic dancing. “Schmigadoon!” star Dove Cameron is talking to Drew about growing up in the spotlight and how co-star Alan Cumming helped her through a breakup. This week, Kate has on a special guest that you may have known from the world of bridal design, but given an ongoing legal battle with her former employer, she can no longer publicly identify with her given name and was reintroduced to the world as Cheval in August 2022 (and her namesake line of glam footwear @sheischeval was introduced in October 2022). As the friendly designer and "America's bridesmaid" on TLC's, “Say Yes to the Dress,” she brought over 10 bridal product lines to market, dressed noteworthy female icons like Dove Cameron, Chrissy Teigen, and Carrie Underwood, and became one of the most sought-after luxury bridal designers in the world (VOGUE'S TOP TEN).
