In Aaron Sorkin's latest film, “The Social Reckoning,” the Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg deals with multiple federal investigations and a whistle-blower's revelations about the damage that the company was causing young people. It's a dark sequel to the 2010 film, “The Social Network,” and, this time around, Zuckerberg is played by Jeremy Strong, who's best known as Kendall Roy on “Succession” and as Roy Cohn in “The Apprentice.” Strong undergoes an unusually intense level of preparation to inhabit his roles; he tells David Remnick that he would send Sorkin e-mails, while in character as Zuckerberg, at night after shooting. [School of Movies 2026] This was a commissioned show for Sarah Montgomery, though it is a film we have promised to cover for years and needed the right time. Turns out sandwiching it between Shakespeare and the Rocky Saga is appropriately ideal. It was released the same year as The Empire Strikes Back and watching any one minute of it will convey to newcomers why this campy space opera could not possibly compete for the attention of an audience craving Star Wars. However, it still did well enough, especially in the UK where the many fans of Queen celebrated this, the first ever sci-fi blockbuster film underscored with rock music. It has subsequently gained a cult following and a revival of interest when forgotten star Sam J. Jones turned up as a parody of himself in Seth McFarlane's two Ted films. His life story is in fact just as compelling as the tale of a simple quarterback opposing the cruel emperor of the universe; Ming (the Merciless)! The Geeks contemplate the exciting future of digital interns who don't understand that the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act is, in fact, not a suggestion.The AI-agent discussion rolls into Meta's Muse, OpenAI's new agent tools, security boundaries, and the increasingly familiar problem of giving software enough permissions to accomplish a task and then discovering it has developed its own interpretation of “accomplish.” The episode also tackles Utah's attempt to apply age verification requirements to VPN users, New York's legal fight with prediction markets, Meta expanding Instagram into schools, and the continuing saga of AI-generated music and copyright. The late-90s teen horror boom, which included Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer had built its appeal on self-aware, meta-textual cleverness, characters who knew the rules of horror movies and still couldn't escape them.
