I have never come across a Helen Keller quote that I did not like. On last week's episode we looked at the benefits of laughter, it was a very fun episode to do. This week episode 39 has a much more serious tone to it with 6 great quotes from Helen Keller encouraging us to take life head on. Helen Keller had to overcome very serious challenges in life from a very young age, and it's understandable that her quotes would be very serious in nature in my opinion. I hope that you enjoy this week's episode, and please come back again.
This week on the My Quest For Quotes podcast we take a look at the benefits of laughter for our overall well being. The primary quote this week comes from Lord Byron, "Always laugh when you can. In episode number 035 we talk about money. Money is neither good nor bad, money is neutral, it all depends on your relationship to money. A great deal of good can be done with money, or a great deal of bad can be done with money. It's similar to that of a match. I could warm the house with a match or I could burn it down. What is your relationship to money? Let's talk about it.
This is episode number 34 of the My Quest For Quotes podcast. The title of this week’s episode is, Challenge Accepted During Black History Month we are looking at quotes that are related to Black History, but I’m trying to NOT consider the customary names that come up each year in February. We first looked at the artist who was ahead of his time, Otis Redding Jr. Then we looked at an example of, what I considered to be great parenting from my FaceBook friend Krischa Esquivel, author of “Losing Control, A Guide To Successful Non-Violent Parenting. Last week I asked the question, Is Gregg Popovich Right? Gregg Popovich, the head coach of the San Antonio Spurs declared that the U.S. is a racist country. Check out episode number 33 for more on that. This week is the final episode for Black History Month. I simply had to take this week’s quote from the recently released Marvel Comics movie, “Black Panther.” Black Panther is an absolutely great movie! Actually, using a quote from the movie is an excuse for me to talk about the movie especially seeing that it is Black History Month. The quote comes from King T’Challa aka The Black Panther played by Chadwick Boseman. He makes the same quote in two separate scenes in the movie. The quote is, “I accept your challenge.” Each time that he made this statement, the fate of the country that he loved, Wakanda, was at stake. And, each time his challenger, at least physically, was bigger and stronger than the king when stripped of his special powers. Yet, each time he accepted the challenge. To me, this is a great metaphor for us when we have to face the challenges of everyday life. And make no mistake about it life is full of challenges. For us, just like for the mythical character king T’Challa, even if we accept the challenge there is no guarantee of success. I hope that you would agree with me that the magic sauce is actually in the trying! Ok, let’s talk about the movie! Don’t worry, if you’re one of the few people that haven’t seen the movie yet, I’m not going to spoil the movie for you at all! First of all, I am not a Marvel Comic person at all. Second of all, I’m not really that much of a Marvel Comic movie person either. Until now, my favorite Marvel movie was The Avengers! Well, after the opening day of Black Panther, I have a new favorite Marvel movie! I absolutely loved everything about Black Panther. The pageantry, the plot, the plot twists, the acting, the directing, the cinematography I loved it all. To be honest I didn’t get caught up in any of the lead up to the movie, because again, I’m not much of a Marvel Movie person. If I’m remembering correctly, prior to Black Panther, I had never seen a Marvel movie at the theatre, ever. So, a good friend of mine texted me sometime after 8pm on opening night saying he was thinking about seeing the movie around 9:30, I said let me know if you do and I’ll meet you there. I knew I wasn’t going to take my wife to see a Marvel movie, so I was like why not! I didn’t know what to expect! All of the main characters were played perfectly by the actors, every actor landed the right roll. My favorite main character actually had the fewest scenes of all the other main characters. M’Baku, leader of the Jabari tribe, played by actor Winston Duke. Duke dominated every scene that he was in. You’ll be seeing more of him in the future. One of the things that hurts him in getting rolls is the fact that he is 6’5” tall. The other character that jumped off the screen was Okoye, the General of the Wakandan army played by Danai Gurira. She was electric! My immediate impression at the end of the movie, was that Black Panther wasn’t a great Marvel movie, it wasn’t a great Black movie, it was a great movie PERIOD! It has everything! Drama Intrigue Action Betrayal Family Loyalty Hope Honor Revenge Bravery A great movie indeed!
In this week's episode we continue with quotes related to Black History Month. The quote for episode number 33 actually comes from Gregg Popovich, the very successful NBA head coach of the San Antonio Spurs. Gregg Popovich is widely considered to be the best coach currently in the NBA. He made a statement last week that America is a racist country. We discuss whether that is true or not, and a potential alternative perspective. Thanks for listening!
Welcome to episode 032 of the My Quest For Quotes podcast. The title of this week's episode is, The Parenting Lotto." This episode is not dealing with a specific quote as we normally do, but it is based on an Instagram/Facebook post from my Facebook friend Krischa Esquivel. The post is a terrific example of good parenting. From what I know of Krischa Esquivel, I am convinced that her two kids have hit the Parenting Lotto! Krischa Esquivel is an author and writer, and she is the author of Losing Control, A Guide to Successful Non-violent Parenting." Krischa is also the Co-founder of M.I.O. (Mothers Inspiring Others). Krischa is on the front lines, making Black History right now! You can also check this video interview that Krischa and I did several years ago. Enjoy this week's episode and please come back again. Thanks.
Thank you for listening to the My Quest For Quotes podcast. Episode number 31 of the podcast is titled Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay. This week we are giving tribute to the late great Soul singer Otis Redding Jr. In the United States the month of February is Black History Month. All this month each episode of My Quest For Quotes will focus of someone that has had an impact of Black History. Although, we will try to focus on someone other than the usual individuals that we tend to think of when we think of Black History. Otis Redding's life was cut short in a tragic plane crash on December 26th, 1967 at the age of 26. Unfortunately, only one passenger survived the crash of Otis Redding's private plane. Otis Redding's light did not shine long, but is shine very bright. Thank you for listening, please subscribe to the show and come back soon.
I am currently re-reading a great book entitled, "The Brain Always Wins." The book talks all about what is necessary for good brain health, not to be confused with good mental health. One of the best habits that fosters good brain health is physical exercise. Exercise is not only good for your heart, it also fosters good brain health. What is good for your heart is also good for your brain. We talk about this and more on episode number 30 of My Quest For Quotes. Thank you for listening and please come back soon.
Many times in life a seemingly negative event can turn out to be just what the doctor ordered. In episode number 29 of the My Quest For Quotes podcast we look at a few of those examples. This week's quotes comes from 17th Century poet Anne Bradstreet, "If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant; if we did not sometimes taste adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome." Thanks for listening this week, and please come back again.
Thank you for listening to another episode of the My Quest For Quotes podcast. Welcome to episode number 28. This episode is being released on the birth date of the late great civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. It's only natural that this week's quote would come from Dr. King. "There is some good in the worst of us, and some evil in the best of us. When we discover this, we are less prone to hate our enemies." ~ MLK. Thank you again for listening, please come back.
Welcome to episode 027 of the My Quest For Quotes podcast. I am back from a very enjoyable Christmas Holiday pause. It is a great thing to be able to spend time with family. I hope that you had a great Holiday Season. The title of this week's episode is New Year's Resolution On Steroids. We talk about New Year's resolutions, and what i believe is a better way to approach them. In this episode we talk about a great quote from Neil Gaiman. Enjoy and please come back again.
Thank you for listening to the My Quest For Quotes podcast. The podcast will take a brief pause for the holiday season, and will resume on January 8th, 2018. Enjoy your time with family and friends and be safe.
Welcome to episode number 26 of the My Quest For Quotes podcast. On last week's episode we looked at 7 quotes on thankfulness, and this week's episode is a continuation of our look at thankfulness. I really believe that thankfulness can act as a super power in our lives. Thankfulness allows us to place more of an emphasis on what we do have instead of what we don't. Thank you for listening, and please come again.
Welcome to episode number 25 of the My Quest For Quotes podcast. In this week's episode we look at 7 quotes on thankfulness. I thought it would be fitting to focus on thankfulness this week, since this past week we celebrated Thanksgiving day in the United States. In episode number 3 we talked about something that really is synonymous with thankfulness, and that is gratitude. The title of that episode was, "Attitude Of Gratitude." I hope that you had a terrific Thanksgiving day, and that the rest of your holiday season be your best ever. Please come back soon.
Thank you for listening to the My Quest For Quotes podcast. On this week's episode we look at 25 great quotes on the value of time. Time is probably our most value asset, and it is important that we value our time and not waste our time. Of the 25 quotes that we consider, my favorite is number one, "The bad news is time flies, the good news is you're the pilot", Michael Altshuler. This idea empowers you as the controller of how your time is spent. I hope that you can use all or some of this 25 quotes to assist you in appreciating the value of your time. Time is the one thing that we can not get back, so we should spend it wisely. Thanks again for listening and please come back soon.
This week on the My Quest For Quotes podcast, we talk about fashion and how we should dress. I believe that your appearance is very important. In my experience, no matter where I go I get treated better if I am dressed well. I am not suggesting that I get treated badly when I'm not dressed well, but I can tell a difference if dressed well. I am a believer in the philosophy of dressing for success. Besides, dressing well generally makes you feel better feel better, and if we feel better we tend to do better. Take my challenge and dress well in a situation where you would normally down, and see if you can tell a difference in how you are treated. Thanks for listening, and please come back again next week.
In episode number 22 of the My Quest For Quotes podcast we look at 15 success quotes. Just what is success is a very subjective thing, ask 15 different people and you will probably get 15 different answers. We discuss a very interesting story that Jamie Foxx tells about Mike Tyson and happiness. For some to achieve happiness is to achieve success. I hope that you can use these 15 quotes to motivate you toward your vision of what success is. Thanks for listening and please come back again.
Denzel Washington is easily my favorite actor. This week on the My Quest For Quotes podcast we discuss 5 inspirational quotes from Denzel Washington. Before actually discussing the quotes, I briefly mention my favorite Denzel Washington role, and my favorite Denzel Washington movie. If you are a Denzel fan like me, I hope that you enjoy episode number 21 of the show. If you have a favorite Denzel quote, please share it with me at info@myquestforquotes.com It could also be a quote from one of his characters. Thank you so much for listening, please subscribe to the show and come back next week.
This week on the My Quest For Quotes podcast we discuss 6 great quotes from Matthew Kelly, the author of "The Rhythm Of Life." I think that my favorite is, "the stories you listen to form your life." Too often we listen to negative stories from outside sources, and from our very own negative thoughts. We really need to learn how to talk to ourselves, so that we can live into the best version of ourselves. A book that I am currently reading on this topic is, "What To Say When You Talk To Yourself" by Shad Helmstetter. Another theme that is touched on in this week's quotes, is the theme of choices, "everything is a choice, this is life's greatest truth, and it's hardest lesson, because it reminds us of our power" ~ Matthew Kelly. The choices that we make today have a direct impact on our tomorrow. I take a slightly different approach in the delivery of this week's episode, and I think that I will stick with this approach from now on. Thank you so much for visiting, and please subscribe to the podcast. Remember, quotes don't work unless you do.
This week on the My Quest For Quotes podcast, we look at my favorite six quotes from the late Arthur Ashe. Arthur Ashe was a great tennis player that I grew up rooting for as a young boy. He was not only a great professional tennis player, but he was also a great human being. Arthur Ashe was the first, and still the only, African American male tennis player to win the U.S. Open and Wimbledon. He was also the first African American man to be ranked as the number one tennis player in the world according to www.biography.com With the help of his father, Arthur Ashe was able to achieve some great accomplishments despite the death of his mother as age six. At least one of the six quotes we look at from Arthur Ashe, should be a great benefit to you in your journey. Thanks for listening, please subscribe to the show and come back next week.
This week on the My Quest For Quotes podcast we try a slightly different format on the show. Instead of focusing on one quote, we discuss 5 Jim Rohn quotes that you should know. Jim Rohn was widely recognized as a personal development legend. He possessed the unique ability to bring extraordinary insights to ordinary principles and events. I totally agree with this description of Jim Rohn from his website www.jimrohn.com. Of the 5 Jim Rohn quotes that we discuss my favorite is, “Work harder on yourself than you do on your job.” You should absolutely work hard on your job, but you will reap greater benefits if you work harder on yourself. I hope you enjoy this week’s episode, and please come back again. Thank you!
The quote for this week’s episode fits very well into what this podcast is all about, and that is striving to get better and grow everyday. Abraham Maslow encourages us to choose growth over and over, and to reject fear over and over, “One can choose to go back toward safety or forward toward growth. Growth must be chosen again and again; fear must be overcome again and again.” Maslow had a very difficult childhood that I believe helped in is development of his theory of “Self Actualization“. Simply put, we should strive to become the best that we can be. Thank you for listening, and please come again.
On this week’s episode we discuss a quote from the philosopher Plato, “The beginning is the most important part of the work.” Getting started gives that all important ingredient known as momentum. Whether you are considering going to the gym for a workout, starting a new business are growing as a person just getting starting is most of the battle. Thank you for visiting the website, and please come again.
“Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm”, Ralph Waldo Emmerson. As we look at examples of greatness, all of them were driven in part by enthusiasm, Albert Einstein, Martin Luther King, Bill Gates, Michael Jordon and Elon Musk. All of us as children were full of enthusiasm, and a love for learning new things. At some point along the way we may have lost that enthusiasm for a whole host of reasons. In this episode of the My Quest For Quotes podcast we discuss one of those reasons. One way that we can rekindle that enthusiasm is watch a little less TV, and read a few more books or listen to podcasts on topics that interest us. Hope you enjoy this episode. Please subscribe to the show and keep coming back.
In this week’s episode of the My Quest For Quotes podcast, we talk about the quote from Voltaire, “Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good.” My guess is that many individuals reject what is perfectly good, because it is not actually perfect. Don’t let yourself miss out on something or someone that could be a great benefit to you, because you are holding out for what is absolutely perfect. This week we added a new twist to the podcast. Instead of only looking at one quote of the week, we looked at one quote for each day of the workweek. Hoping that you will like this twist, that may become a regular part of the podcast.
This week’s quote comes from Winston Churchill, “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.” On this week’s show, we once again talk about the devastation that Hurricane Harvey visited upon the Southeast Texas area, including Houston and my hometown of Port Arthur, TX. Please donate, if you are able, to the American Red Cross by texting “HARVEY” to 90999 to donate $10 through your cell phone bill. JJ Watt, the star defensive end for the Houston Texans, started a crowdfunding effort to raise $200,00o for the victims of the storm, and at the recording of this episode he has raised more than $18 million dollars with a new goal of $20 million. You can donate the the fund at YouCaring.com/JJWatt. This week we also talk about the benefits of being generous to the giver.
The quote for this week is from an unknown author, “Everybody’s a self made man; but only the successful ones are ever willing to admit it.” Thanks for visiting the website for this week’s episode of the My Quest For Quotes podcast. In this episode we talk about taking responsibility for the results, or lack thereof in our lives. Taking ownership of our results in life, in my opinion, is very liberating. This episode is being published at the same time that Hurricane Harvey is devastating the Southeast Texas area. Please send your thoughts and prayers to the areas affected by the devastating flooding. If you are so inclined, text HARVEY to 90999 to make a $10 donation to the American Red Cross to help those in need. Thank you for visiting and listening to the My Quest For Quotes podcast.
This week on the My Quest For Quotes podcast we take a look at a Swedish proverb, “Fear less, hope more, eat less, chew more, whine less, breathe more, talk less, say more, hate less, love more, and good things will be yours.” Incorporating these qualities into our daily lives can serve to improve our lives for the better. The act alone of decreasing the amount of fear in our lives, can really propel us to higher heights. Fear can often paralyze us, and prevent us from pursuing our hopes and dreams. At the same time fear is actually very useful, our fear of falling for instances, keeps us from walking off of a cliff. We get into so much more in the episode. Thank you for finding your way to the My Quest For Quotes website. Please take a look around and enjoy the previous episodes as well. Please come back soon.
“Work, work, work, is the main thing” is this week’s quote from the 16th president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. Thank you for visiting the My Quest For Quotes website, and listening to episode 010. In order to be successful at anything is life, hard word has to be the main thing that we focus on. Nothing great is never accomplished without hard work. This week we discuss some of the difficulties that Abraham Lincoln dealt with in his adult life. Despite the tragic events in his life he was able to accomplish many great achievements. In many ways Lincoln was a very tragic figure to me, but he did not let tragedy define him. Hopefully Lincoln’s perseverance can be instructive for us today. Please subscribe to the show and continue to come back again and aga
Episode number 009 of the “My Quest For Quotes” podcast encourages us that it is never too late to achieve our dreams and goals. This week’s quote comes from George Eliot one of the leading novelist of the 19th century. The identity of Eliot actually comes with a twist as we’ll learn in this episode. This week’s quote is, “It’s never too late to be what you might have been.” George Eliot led a very interesting and radical life the the 1800’s. Eliot had to overcome certain obstacles just like we all do. Hopefully, we won’t let our obstacles stop us just the same as Eliot. Thanks for coming to the site, and please subscribe to the podcast.
Recently I had the privilege of seeing my new all time favorite movie, “Hidden Figures.” This week on the My Quest For Quotes podcast we talk about a great quote from this movie. There are so many great lines and scenes in this movie, that it was hard to choose just one. One of the characters in the movie, that’s based on a true story, tells us what he thinks is dangerous. Please enjoy this week’s episode, and do your best to avoid the danger from the quote we discuss. Also, if you haven’t seen the movie yet, it is a must see.
Welcome to episode number seven of the “My Quest For Quotes” podcast. This week we talk about morning routines. The title of this episode is, “Win the Morning Win the Day.” Many people believe that to win the morning you need a morning routine. I can’t be sure where I first heard the phrase, “win the morning win the day”, but I am fairly certain that I first heard it from Tim Ferriss author of “The Four Hour Workweek.” For him the ideal morning routine includes, making your bed, meditation, exercise, drinking tea and journaling. My favorite morning routine actually comes from the book, “Miracle Morning”, by Hal Elrod. The Miracle Morning routine includes, silence, affirmations, visualization, exercise, reading and scribe(journal). Hal uses the acronym S A V E R S for easy recall. Please enjoy this week’s episode and don’t forget to subscribe.
When someone truly believes in you, it is one of the greatest gifts that you will ever receive. Episode six of the My Quest For Quotes podcast discusses the quote from Jim Valvano concerning the great gift that his father gave to him, “My father gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person, he believed in me” – Jim Valvano. As I read this quote from Jim Valvano, many memories of my childhood rushed over me. I can not think of anyone who believed in my more than my father. Having someone that believes in you, is such a tremendous asset in achieving your life goals. Please enjoy this week’s episode, don’t forget to subscribe and please come back again and again.
In this week’s episode of the “My Quest For Quotes” podcast our quote comes from Sarah Caldwell, “Learn everything you can, anytime you can, from anyone you can – there will always come a time when you will be grateful you did.” We briefly talk about a related quote from Warren Buffett, “The more you learn, the more you earn.” As long as we are fortunate enough to remain here on the earth, we should consider ourselves to be continuous learners. There are so many avenues that we can take to learn more, the internet, Google, YouTube and of course books. In terms of books, I personally prefer audiobooks. What is your preference? Thank you so much for listening to this episode, and please don’t forget to subscribe, and continue to come back again and again.
This week’s episode of the “My Quest For Quotes” podcast, is based on a quote from Thomas A. Edison, “I have not failed, I’ve found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” Edison was a prolific inventor who lived during the late 1800’s and the early 1900’s. Just as Thomas Edison ran many experiments during his time as a scientist, we can become scientist in our personal lives. I first learned this concept from Tai Lopez, a successful businessman and social media expert. I experimented with taking cold showers, because research has shown certain benefits from taking cold showers, such as reduced stress, enhanced skin quality and improved mood. After two weeks of cold showers, my finger joints began to ache as though I had arthritis. Cold showers did not work for me, so I had to move on from that experiment. Listen to today’s episode and learn some other areas that I have run experiments. Please subscribe to this podcast, and keep coming back.
On this week’s episode of the My Quest For Quotes podcast we discuss a very important character trait to develop. That character trait is an attitude of gratitude. Our quote this week comes from Oprah Winfrey, “What you focus on expands, and when you focus on the goodness in your life, you create more of it. Opportunities, relationships, even money flowed my way when I learned to be grateful no matter what happened in my life.” What a great quote from Oprah Winfrey. If we could just focus more on thankfulness and gratitude, we would all be the better for it. Thanks for listening this week, please subscribe to the podcast and keep coming back again and again.
Welcome to episode number 002 of the “My Quest For Quotes” podcast. This week’s episode covers a quote from Mary Kay Ash, the late founder of Mary Kay Cosmetics. This week we talk about ignoring the limits that others put on us, and striving to stay hungry and foolish. Thank you for coming, and please do hit the subscribe button, and come back again and again.
Episode number one of the My Quest For Quotespodcast deals with a concept that is foundational to achieving most anything in life. The quote for this week’s episode is, “You must see it to be it”. If you can not picture or visualize yourself performing a certain task, chances are that you will not actually be able to do that task in real life. Henry Ford once said, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t–you’re right.” I hope you enjoy this week’s episode, and pleasesubscribe to the podcast and keep coming back.
Welcome to the My Quest For Quotes podcast. In this episode I give you an overview of my new podcast. Quotes, I believe, can provide inspiration in our daily lives. This podcast resides at the intersection of several things that I get very excited about, quotes, podcast, technology and media production. I started collecting quotes and listening to podcast several years ago, and both activities are a big part of my daily routine. Quotes and podcast are a great way to stay motivated and self education. As Jim Rohn says, “Education will make you a living, self education will make you a fortune.” Hope you enjoy this episode and come back soon.
