On this week's episode of The Atlantic Files, Rui Hachimura has been traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, Shannon Sharpe beefs with the whole Memphis Grizzlies team, Kyrie Irving tries to keep the Brooklyn Nets afloat, Dejounte Murray airs some grievances against the San Antonio Spurs, Stan Van Gundy makes some points about player health today, and the Atlantic is leading the East! That plus much more! Rui Hachimura was shipped away from the Washington Wizards after he voiced his feelings about wanting to play more for a bag of peanuts. Kendrick Nunn and a few third-round picks were all it took to get the Lakers an upgrade at the forward spot. The big question will be whether or not he sees more playing time and actually improves from it. In case you haven't hear about it yet, Shannon Sharpe got into a yelling match with Dillon Brooks and the Memphis Grizzlies when he was sitting courtside at one of their games. He kept saying that Brooks didn't want the smoke and by the way he acted, it sure seemed true. Sharpe is not the type of guy to mess around with. Dejounte Murray went on the All The Smoke Podcast and talked about his time with the San Antonio Spurs and his relationships with Coach Popovich and Tony Parker. Some of it was a surprise, but the parts about Parker seemed to fit the narrative from players that have played with him before. Then, Stan Van Gundy took to Twitter to ask about the current era's health issue and why medicine hasn't evolved enough to keep guys from getting hurt. He pointed out how there are many more small injuries holding guys out and how there are even some big ones that take people out for a whole season. Kevin Durant seemed to agree and we do too. Finally, the Atlantic Division is leading in the Eastern Conference. Are they the true kings of the East? Kyrie Irving is trying to keep the Brooklyn Nets afloat with Durant sidelined and the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers just keep on rising to the top. On this week's episode of The Atlantic Files Podcast, Kevin Durant sprains his MCL and will be out for at least a couple weeks, he also does an interview and says NBA fans are entitled, the first round of NBA All-Star voting returns came out, Gregg Popovich talks about the terrible defense of today's game, Joe Lacob hints at maybe trading one of the Golden State Warriors big three, and more! Kevin Durant will have to spend some time on the sidelines as he sprained his MCL and has been reported out for at least a few weeks. He will be re-evaluated after that time just in case the healing process doesn't go as planned. The scare comes from the fact that he missed six weeks with this same injury in seasons prior, but reports have said it's not as serious as before. Can the Nets stay afloat without their top player? Durant also gave an interview where he compared today's game with eras before and how the fans perceive the game today. He said that fans today are entitled because they consume it way more than the generations before them and they have started to take the game for granted. Do you agree with what he had to say? Then, the first round of NBA All-Star voting returns came out! There were a few surprises but the big names prevailed as usual when it came to the top vote-getters. The biggest issues came from the names that didn't appear on the list at all! Finally, there were quotes from Gregg Popovich and Joe Lacob. Coach Pop sarcastically talked about adding a four and five-point shot because nobody wants to play defense anyway. Then, Lacob hinted at trading away one of the original big three before it was too late. Who do you think will be the odd man out? The author of Hebrews gave believers a task: "Let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds ... , not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near" (10:24–25). One of the ways we, as the people of God, can stimulate and encourage one another is by sharing stories of God's faithfulness. Alice Popovich, a long-time member (and current office administrator) of Oakridge Bible Chapel, shares an abridged version of what God has been doing and is currently doing in her life.

The weather outside is frightful, but the sports world is so delightful. I'll have some shiny gifts under the tree, but some coal in a stocking or two as I spread some cheers and jeers over the next hour. On deck: (3:58) After a birthday shoutout and sending well wishes to those celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa during this holiday season, I begin the podcast with the shocking news of legendary Steelers RB, Franco Harris, passing away at the age of 72. He transitions just days before the 50th anniversary of the greatest play in NFL history (The Immaculate Reception), the docuseries 'A Football Life' that will air Friday night on the anniversary of the play, then have his number retired on Christmas Eve where the Raiders invade Pittsburgh, which are the two teams in the divisional playoff game 50 years prior that made this play famous. Week 16 has a few interesting matchups, including the Thursday night contest between the top two quarterbacks drafted in 2021 (Jaguars Trevor Lawrence and the Jets Zach Wilson) as both are fighting to position themselves in the AFC playoff hunt. I'll go through a laughable Christmas Day schedule, but highlight the key games that'll have postseason implications as we're down to the final couple of weeks of the year. I'll also get into where the NFL Sunday Ticket is moving to after almost three decades with DirecTV. (29:21) I make a brief mention of the NHL as it's relatively quiet. The Hurricanes have stormed to the top of the Metropolitan Division, tied with the Devils. Besides that, all is pretty mellow. (29:53) What's not mellow is the activity of the New York Mets this offseason. They shockingly sign Carlos Correa as his deal with the Giants bottomed out due to red flags regarding his medical past. There is SO much to unpack here. The amount owner Steve Cohen has spent this offseason, the payroll ballooning to over $380 million dollars, the pressure and expectation of this team, the bullseye on their back, which all culminates to one thing. They are the new Evil Empire. I'll touch on a few signings over the past few days (i.e. Seth Lugo, Noah Syndergaard, etc.) as I believe the free agent period will start to quiet down after an active past couple of weeks. (47:03) There's a new owner in the NBA circles as Mat Ishbia, a CEO of a mortgage lending company has purchased the Suns and Mercury for a record $4 billion dollars. We can say good riddance to erstwhile owner Robert Sarver and all of his baggage and filth over the past several years. What's going on with the Warriors? They'll limp home after a 1-5 road trip, where on the back end lost to the Knicks and Nets by 38 and 30, respectively. Is there something going on behind the scenes as they try to get their season on track? I'll debate the 2023 nominees for the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. We know Gregg Popovich, Dwyane Wade and Dirk Nowitzki are no-brainers. What about Tony Parker? Or Pau Gasol? (56:20) The Masters are telling the LIV golfers to come on down to Augusta in April. There's no surprise that they've elected for them to participate. What about the PGA Championship, the US Open and Open Championship? Will they follow suit? Toronto and Montreal based trio, American Lips, have just announced the release of their latest 3-song maxi-single Waste of Crime on Ancient Fashion Records. American Lips features Death From Above 1979 drummer Sebastien Grainger and prolific producer Adrian Popovich, also known for his time in legendary Canadian rock act Tricky Woo. In explaining their newest offering the bands' latest one-sheet asks you to ponder, “Ever wondered what it would sound like if The Art Of Noise produced a Plastic Bertrand record?” To clear up that question Popovich explains, “I spent a good chunk of 1988 listening to the Colors OST and the“Kiss”cassingle by The Art Of Noise and Tom Jones. This older kid Rob on my street who was into punk rock said “the Colors soundtrack is pretty cool but that Art Of Noise song is garbage!” As a nine-year-old, I'd yet to be called out on my questionable musical tastes. Rob made me a mixtape with songs by The Ramones, Misfits, Motorhead, The Buzzcocks and a bunch of other essentials. I'd never heard any punk music before and the impact it had on me was huge. Ffwd to 2022, when Sebastien unilaterally decided to add Fairlight sample horn arrangements to two new American Lips songs, the simultaneous feelings of glorious discovery and deep shame I felt in 1988 came flooding back”. Inspired by Wax Trax! Records, Shep Pettibone, Art Of Noise, and a hot cut from The Ghostbusters OST, American Lips shed the punky garage-wave of their 2017 debut LP “KissThe Void,” and take a hard-drive dumpster-dive, emerging with a kind of “sample-bank pop” -at once danceable, but stylistically hard to pin down (don't call it dance punk!). Double A-sides “Waste Of Crime” and “Labor Of Hate” are backed by extended dub remix“Labor Of Dub.” Fans of mid-80s Cabaret Voltaire, Ghostbusters OST, Decadent Dub Team, Rocket From The Crypt and Plastic Bertrand will rejoice in the exquisite peppering of influences in these new compositions.  WebSite: https://ancientfashionrecords.com/ D I S C O V E R Twitter: https://twitter.com/american_lips Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/americanlipsss Bandcamp: https://americanlips.bandcamp.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/americanlipsband Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/5srNG8oK8FdG7qe9jiH7p7?si=mkAMZTuzQnO2CWxt4nrmpQ Brought to you by AIXdspShop now and get up to 50% off on all plugins.Website: HEREPledge monthly with Patreon https://www.patreon.com/apologueShop Apologue products at http://apologue.ca

Nick Popovich, Hacker in Residence at PlexTrac, drops by to say hi to the Hacker Valley crew and give some insight into PlexTrac's purple teaming services. Starting his career in offensive security as a pen tester, Nick gained great insight into purple teaming at companies like Optiv before he joined PLexTrac's team of hackers. This week, Nick talks about PlexTrac's unique software integrations, practical purple team collaboration, and differentiating between his experiences in red teaming and pen testing in offensive cyber.   Timecoded Guide: [00:00] Getting involved in tech through the Army & continuing as a civilian  [07:02] Transitioning from security analyst into pen testing & offensive security [14:41] Explaining the difference between red teaming & pen testing [36:11] Collaborating red & blue to make the perfect purple team [43:16] Using PlexTrac for purple team engagements  [50:07] Avoiding burnout & disengaging from hacking after work   Sponsor Links: Thank you to our friends at Axonius and PlexTrac for sponsoring this episode! The Axonius solution correlates asset data from existing solutions to provide an always up-to-date inventory, uncover gaps, and automate action — giving IT and security teams the confidence to control complexity. Learn more at axonius.com/hackervalley PlexTrac, the Proactive Cybersecurity Management Platform, brings red and blue teams together for better collaboration and communication. Check them out at plextrac.com/hackervalley   What was that transition like for you from security analyst to pen tester? Nick describes his transition from being a security analyst who looked at pen testing reports to becoming a pen tester as nothing short of fascinating. After struggling to re-engineer the reports he was seeing at work as an analyst, Nick took his chances on becoming a practitioner through getting certified, expanding his education, and working for a small pen testing consulting company. Working in that boutique environment gave him an overall appreciation for the nuance and knowledge needed to be a successful pen tester.  “I've gotten lucky to see both sides of the coin, meaning that raw boutique with six folks where you're the entire pen testing practice. And also, I've been in a pen testing practice with dozens upon dozens of team members supporting me.”   People misunderstand purple teaming. Can you talk about what purple team collaboration really looks like? Many perceive purple teaming as the red team and the blue team just working together. In reality, Nick explains that an actual purple team requires a lot more than occasional proximity and communication— it requires strategy, established procedures, and set goals and outcomes. Instead of forcing proximity without the proper leadership or planning, a program like PlexTrac needs to be in place to further facilitate and create that complete purple team integration.   “Folks still have their day job. During a purple team engagement, the blue team still has to protect the fidelity of the environment, they have a day job they're doing. So, establish rules, establish a procedure, and then, really come up with outcomes that you want to see.”   How does red vs blue team collaboration translate into PlexTac's application? Purple team collaboration starts with having a clear plan and communication strategy. Enter PlexTrac, a program designed to be a place for collaboration. The best part of PlexTrac in Nick's opinion? They're the pane of glass to look through, not the replacement for other programs. Being able to integrate programs like SCYTHE into PlexTrac not only maximizes collaboration opportunities, but also avoids issues of conflicting technology.  “It's a place for collaboration. It's a place where the data lives and you work on it together. Whether you're starting your purple team journey, or you have an established purple team and you want to derive more value, a platform like PlexTrac can go a long way.”   What do you do outside of cybersecurity to avoid burnout? In his years of working with pen testers and practitioners, Nick has seen a lot of burnout and a lot of overworked cyber professionals. To avoid the burnout that feels all too common during the industry's current labor shortage, Nick hikes, plays pool, and tries to keep his screen time down. No matter what your hobby is, be it the media you consume, the content you create, or the games you enjoy, having an outlet outside of the industry will save you from burning out. “I'm not saying screens are bad. I'm just saying to find something that can disengage your mind from the hacks and the cracks, from the tech debt that your brain is incurring, is absolutely important. If you don't find a way to have balance, your brain is going to fry.” --------------- Links: Keep up with our guest Nick Popovich on LinkedIn and Twitter Learn more about PlexTrac on LinkedIn and the PlexTrac website Connect with Davin Jackson on LinkedIn and Twitter Watch the live recording of this show on our YouTube Continue the conversation by joining our Discord Hear more from Hacker Valley Media and Hacker Valley Blue

Spurscast: Preseason Opener in Houston In Spurscast episode 670, Spurscast host Paul Garcia and Project Spurs writer Jazz Tamir discuss:  The San Antonio Spurs' opening preseason loss in Houston Takeaways from the game Preseason Loss in Houston The San Antonio Spurs opened their preseason schedule Sunday with a 38-point loss in Houston. The game was close for the first 10.5 minutes, but just before the first quarter ended, the Rockets went up by double digits, and never looked back. One contributing factor for the Spurs' loss was their shooting from outside. The team shot 11/42 from distance, which allowed the Rockets to collect defensive boards and get out in transition. With the Spurs being unable to set up their halfcourt defense, the Rockets scored 30 or more points in every quarter of the game. “In general, the shooting was pretty poor," said Spurs Head Coach Gregg Popovich after the game. "And when you're going back in transition defense all the time, all kinds of bad things are going to happen. You just can't do it over and over and over again with the missed shots. That was the worst part of the game. The second thing was physicality. We let them go where they wanted to go, they were much more physical in that sense and that's got to be the biggest improvement we make overall.” Devin Vassell led the team with 13 points in one half of play, while Zach Collins scored 11 points, Malaki Branham scored 10 points in just two quarters, and Jeremy Sochan showed his potential on defense with three blocks in just 17 minutes. One of the players who really stood out was Isaiah Roby. Roby finished with 12 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 block in 18 minutes. “He's got a lot of skills," said Popovich of Roby. "He's a good ball handler, he could rebound, he's playing defense, he's trying to do everything the way we want to do it, but I thought that Isaiah Roby did a good job tonight at both ends of the floor.” Learn more about your ad choices.
