New Horizon is a seven day Christian festival that takes place every year on the Ulster University campus in Coleraine, set on the picturesque north coast of Northern Ireland. It exists to provide a space and time in which thousands of people of all ages can be taught from the bible, be inspired through worship and story, develop a missional heart, and engage with relevant and challenging issues. The event has been running in NI since 1989 and we are very much looking forward to seeing and hearing what God has in store for us in the years and decades to come.

NH Explore 10 things Christians Say by New Horizon NI
Through personal testimonies from the global church, this seminar will explore how the light of the gospel has brought joy even in places of challenge and darkness. Millions of our brothers and sisters around the world face extreme persecution for following Jesus. Considering this alongside other topics of war, displacement and gender-based violence, we will see examples of God redeeming suffering and the gift of God-given joy will be presented. Voices from the global church will tell their stories. There will also be opportunity for discussion on what the church in Ireland can learn from experiences of Christians across the world.
Most of us will have had moments when we have been bewildered by what happens to us and made to wonder if God is really there, and if so, does he actually care? Prayers are unanswered, suffering seems unjust, and God seem inactive, silent or even absent. Hopes are dashed and dreams unfulfilled. Our faith takes a battering and we are simply hanging on. Without offering trite solutions, or pretending that there are any quick-fix solutions, Tony and Jilly Horsfall shared some responses that enable us to move forward to a deeper relationship with God even in the face of disappointment.
"I delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For He has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of His righteousness." On the final morning of New Horizon 2023, Tony Horsfall shared the climax of his teaching on Isaiah 61.

Are the poor and disadvantaged under-represented, or even absent, from our churches? Is the church seen as a charitable service rather than a family to those in need? Discover how marginalisation creates a barrier to building relationships and sharing the gospel. Let's explore together how we can overcome barriers by reconsidering our approach to this mission.
When Archbishop Ben Kwashi's plane was delayed, Bishop Ken Clarke stepped in to share during the Tuesday evening celebration at NH2023. He brought a powerful challenge for us to be a church that prioritises the Great Commission. "Whoever we are, if we are a disciple of Jesus, whatever we are facing, not least in this kingdom task of sharing the good news, He is with us. Paul said, 'I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.'"

For many people outside West Belfast it is unknown. It is also a place where an evangelical expression of church is largely, although not completely unknown. In the past the Presbyterian Church had a number of congregations there, but the last closed in 1993. Yet the constituency of West Belfast is home to around 95,000 people! Last year a new four year development post was created to reach back into West Belfast, with the hand of friendship, service and grace. David Moore shares about this project.

How do we speak to God when we face difficult situations, whether it be Covid, Ukraine or something else? Lament in the Bible offers one way for Christians both to express honestly to God how we feel about our difficulties, and to reaffirm trust in God as relevant even to these situations. In this seminar we will explore the importance of lament in the Bible, looking at what it is, where it is found, and how it is relevant for us. We will also ask whether there is anything that we cannot say to God as part of our relationship with him. William Ford teaches Old Testament and Hebrew at Belfast Bible College. He has a particular interest in how we understand theologically difficult passages in the Bible.
Leaders aspire to be instruments of change. However leadership is not simply about the change that is brought about in or through an organisation or a church; the journey of leadership itself is a crucible of change through which the leader is transformed. This seminar will aim to explore some of the ways leaders can expect to be changed as they lead. The seminar will be of particular relevance to leaders of churches and other Christian ministries, but will also be open to Christians who are leading in other spheres of influence. Alan Wilson teaches in Bible colleges in both Northern Ireland and the Republic. He is host of “The Leadership Journey Podcast” and author of “The Crucible of Leadership”. He is married to Pauline, a counsellor and retreat leader.
70% of adults are confident they can spot misinformation online but only 20% do so accurately when tested (Ofcom, 2022). In this information age, vast quantities of data are at our fingertips, but conspiracy theories, fake news and ideologies abound and debate is often reduced to soundbites. Christians are called to be watchful, alert to deceit and firmly established in the truth. Yet we sometimes seem to be blown around by every idea and too easily duped. This seminar will search for wisdom to discern what is true, to test stories we hear and live faithfully by the true story of the gospel. Based in Lisburn with wife, Gar-Ling, and two teenaged children, Paul Coulter is a medic, pastor, author and theologian. Supporting leaders in Living Leadership and doing apologetics the Centre for Christianity in Society, he loves walking and history.

Almost 1000 Ukrainians recently arrived and many more on their way. The nations are no long in far off countries, but seeking sanctuary in our towns and villages. Surely God's people will rise to be the ones who will share welcome, friendship and hope for the future with those who so desperately need it. Join this seminar to learn who our new neighbours are and how we as churches and individuals can get to know and serve them. Nathaniel Jennings is OMF's Area Representative in Ireland. He is particularly excited to see how local churches in Ireland are going to be enriched and increasingly reflect the coming kingdom as they strive to become more diverse and intercultural.
Friday Morning Bible Teaching - Renewal of the missional mind with John Risbridger by New Horizon NI
In this seminar we are going to look together at how sharing Jesus isn't rocket science and is a normal thing for us to do. We'll look together at how God calls us to a family of believers where we can support each other as we seek to invite people to get to know Jesus for themselves. So if you are looking forward to freshers or even nearing the end of your time in Uni or just somewhere inbetween, come along with your excitement, apprehensions or even guilt and let's draw near to God together and dwell on how he is SO worthy to be shared! Elin works for CUI in the West of the Republic of Ireland. Jesus says, ‘My sheep know my voice”. In any relationship it's so important that we listen as well as speak. More than ever before we need to be a people who are wholeheartedly listening to God and seeking His heart and mind on our world. His word is a key way in which we engage with Him to hear what He's saying, not just generally, but in the here and now. In this seminar we will think about how we can still our hearts and open our minds to God's word in a way that leads to living encounter. One of our Main Stage speakers for this week, Ali is rector of Christ Church, Kilkeel and serves on the leadership team of New Wine Ireland. Before training for ordained ministry she worked with Youth For Christ in France and Kingdom Faith Ministries in England as a Bible Teacher and Pastor. Did you know that today there are over 40 million people trapped in modern slavery – more than at any other point in history? As we seek to live out the Micah call to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with God, what does it look like to meet the immediate needs of those experiencing oppression and violence whilst also reforming the systems that perpetuate this injustice? In this seminar we will be looking at real examples of where IJM are working on the ground to see freedom, and looking at how we can take action to humbly bring greater justice and mercy in our spheres of influence. Hannah is International Justice Mission's national director in Ireland. She is passionate about championing the cause for people living in poverty and the church's call to seek justice.
We have probably all heard horror stories of leadership abuses and seen tragic cases of leaders burning out and dropping out. It is clear that we have a problem with our leadership cultures in the Christian subculture. We cannot simply put this down to a few ‘bad apples'. We must think seriously about how we can develop leadership which is healthy for both the leader and the led and sustainable for the long haul. This seminar will explore practical ideas for creating a positive leadership culture in which leaders commit to godly conduct and those they lead commit to care well for them. Based in Lisburn with wife, Gar-Ling, and two teenaged children, Paul is a medic, pastor, author and theologian. Supporting leaders in Living Leadership and doing apologetics with the Centre for Christianity in Society, he loves walking and history.
