It's Super Bowl week and it's our favourite pod of the year! We chat about a bunch of big game stuff including (reluctantly..) deflated balls, bets, Half time, how to party and what to look out for. You even get a prediction out of us... We'll be watching the Big game on Channel 4 that night and we're joined by the man who'll be presenting the whole thing on the night - Nat Coombs who joins us to let us know what to expect on the night from the C4 team. Remember we have THE party to watch the big Game - http://bloomsburylive.com/superbowl - come and join us! & we have The Draft Day Competition - Just Share, RT or like THIS http://t.co/blLY8DOpyj
What a weekend, one of the greatest games in living memory (of course we are referring to the fish tossing....) and the Hawks beating the Pack and the Patriots dumping on Indy. It's Tom vs Russy in the big one people - lets all salute!
As we get down to the final four in the race for this season's Super Bowl we're joined by two long term friends of the pod to discuss the match ups that we basked in this weekend. Will Gavin from Tuesday Morning Football and Adam Goldstein (cop his new book - this is Fandom!) join us to recap all the talking points. We here Inie is back next week so stay tuned for that! Don't forget - The only Place to watch the Super Bowl - http://bloomsburylive.com/superbowl - Yes!!!!!
It's playoff time and what better way to celebrate than with 2 amazing guests! We welcome back Jamie Cutteridge from Any Given Sunday Night & @UKNFL to talk about all the weekends incidents and to preview next weeks match ups. To celebrate yet another incredible "Football Life" documentary this week we're joined by Greg Frith from NFL Films to talk about his "Rose Bowl 2006" Documentary featuring the greatest game of College Football ever played between USC & Texas, Snoop Dogg & a pre (and technically post) Mcconaissance Matthew Mcconaughey. Don't forget our Super Bowl Party on Feb 1st @ Bloomsbury Lanes in London - tickets available from http://bloomsburylive.com/superbowl
We invite London's greatest DJ and turn up specialist Rob Pursey to talk about 2014's music, what we liked, what we didn't and why..Great times (not too much NFL chat so if you want to keep it there just skip to the next episode)
With Inie away this week we ask back one of our favourite guests, Die Hard Clevelander Joe Cohen who helps us understand why Johnny Football just hasn't really happened and what it means for his beloved Browns moving forward. As well as going though all the week 16 winners, losers and stories we celebrate what has been a great week for the Jags (if missing out on Mariota or Winston is considered a win..) - two of their greatest ever players Keenan McCardell and Jimmy Smith are featured on this weeks " A Football Life" and 7 time Emmy Award winner and producer of the film from NFL Films Paul Monusky joins us to tell us more about the making of this truly wonderful film. One for the sports weepers out there. Have a great Xmas!
We stay true to our pre season pact of not podding again Johnny started his first NFL game and return to the airwaves with the usual mix of NFL chat and fun
So there we have it, that's another season in the books. Many congrats to the Seattle Seahawks as we are sure you all know by now trounced the Broncos on Sunday Night. In the last NLD40 of the season we recap the game, not just the action itself but of course the Super Bowl Ads that we liked and didn't and give you the verdict on the halftime show. Thanks to everyone that came to our Superbowl Party - you made it a really special night and capped off an amazing season.
It's Superbowl week so we decided to treat you to something a little bit special. Not only did we drop our NFL Jams mix this week we decided to bring on two very special guests from the world of Hip Hop to help us preview the big game. Coming off the back of a Grammy nominated 2013 where he made beats for Drake, Chance the Rapper, J Cole, Pusha T (errr basically all of our favourite rappers..), we speak to life long Seahawks fan and super producer Jake One about his love for the Hawks, why we should route for them and the unique place this team has taken within a city that's desperate for a major sports win. We also invite back onto NLD40, Rob Pursey - London's greatest DJ who tells us what he'll be playing at our Super Bowl Party, his take on the winners and losers at the Grammys and what music we need to be picking up throughout 2014'. Don't worry folks - we get into big NFL talk as well as Hip Hop so we're covering it all this week - see you all on Sunday night!
..."the best podcast in the game...the best podcast in the game..." - we could repeat that for ages of course but have to shout out Richard Sherman who topped off what was an incredible night of NFL action with the best soundbite of the season so far. It's SUPERBOWL time and we now know who's going to be there - The Broncos will play the Seahawks and in a special NLDN40 recorded straight after the games we talk about all the hows, whys and whats of the action we'd just seen and then look forward to what should be an epic match up in two weeks time which you have to come and watch with us at our Super Bowl Party, of course you do....
So that's the division games in the books leaving us with 4 teams, well come to mention it, THE four teams... We talk about how it all came to pass and welcome back our old mucker Jamie Cutteridge from Any Given Sunday Night as well as welcoming on Colm from Overtime Ireland to go back over some game tape. Don't forget - Super Bowl Party tickets on sale now - see u there peeps...
It was Wildcard Weekend and it's safe to say it was one that will go down in History. The Colts 28 point comeback against the Chiefs was the game of the season so far and one that Chiefs fans will want to forget in a hurry. To ease the pain we invited one of the key Chiefs from their last side to win a playoff game onto the pod, JJ Birden to talk about the game and the similarities between himself and TY Hylton and what it takes to compete in the NFL as a lil' guy. We round up all the other Wild Card reflection as well and look forward to what should be an epic Division Weekend, starting 2014 off right!
We bring you the 31st and last NLDN40 of the 2013 and what a couple of day's it's been. We bring you all the lowlights from Black...err sorry African American Monday in the NFL where we said goodbye to some of our least favourite coaches. We also wrap up all the playoffs spots and talk about the matches we can expect to see all next weekend. To mark the end of Channel 4's extremely successful return to live coverage of the NFL we welcome on one of our favourite guys in the biz and presenter on the C4 show Nat Coombs to reflect on the show this season and to talk about the channel's upcoming Super Bowl coverage schedule. Everyone that's listened in 2013 we salute you!
Wishing all you lot a happy Festivus and whilst we don't spend the whole of this pod airing our grievances we do spend 45 minutes or so talking about week 16 and how complicated the playoff picture looks right now. We also talk some christmas chat and provide everyone with the soundtrack for "Driving home for Christmas"..
A bit of a different NLDN40 this week as we saw Jameis Winston this weekend be crowned the new Heisman trophy winner and the new name to watch out for in College Football. We invite onto the pod one of our favourite College Football writers, Michael Weinreb from Sportsonearth.com to talk all things Jameis as well as running through some of the upcoming bowl game match ups and who to look out next season in the 2014 NFL draft. We stay on the college tip and talk about some Youngstown Boys, the incredible new ESPN documentary about Ohio State with our resident Ohio Native and great mate Joe Cohen who also delivers his damning verdict at the end of another miserable season of Cleveland Browns fandom. Don't worry folks we squeeze in all the relevant NFL chat and give you some more info on our SuperBowl party on 2nd Feb. Classic NLD40 people - enjoy!
Snow, snow and more snow was upon us in week 14 and it helped make for what will go down in history as THE HOUR which occurred between around 8:45 and 9:45pm on Sunday night. If you didn't see it we'll help you relive it all, well as best as we possibly can, well some of us will, Inie wasn't that impressed with the snow as you'll be able to tell with his mini rant to open the pod. We saw records tumble, 88 TD's and the last 2 minutes of a game that will never be equalled. This was too much for two people so we invited back our boy Jamie Cutteridge from Any Given Sunday Night for this one..
As we reach our 50th edition of NLD40 we give thanks to the world and all the U.N.I.T.Y that exists within it. We talk about a crazy week 13, an unbelievable end to the Iron Bowl and which NFL players we would adopt if we got the opportunity..
We say this all the time, well most of the time, but #BANANAS week in the NFL that was. We go in hard at length on what had to be the game of the season as Tom Brady's Pat's came back to win an improbable one against Peyton's Broncos in Sunday's late games. We cover all the games that mattered this week and talk about why we do respect the Saints even if Twitter doesn't think we do, Mark Sanchez's cornrows and the party that's taking place at 5-6 in the AFC. We breakdown the playoff picture and preview what should be another great Thanksgiving. We give thanks to you all pod listeners.
We get off our sick beds this week to deliver all that was good, good GOOD about week 11 in the NFL. The most anticipated match up of the season was perhaps usurped by the NFL's longest and muddiest game in memory. We talk winners, losers and well everything in between...It's the NFL - you have to love it...
We're all over the place this week as we not only come to you a day later but thanks to the Bucs and our own Jags we find ourselves starting from the bottom and celebrating the fact that every team in the NFL now has a win this season. We make the most of the opportunity to talk some MNF as well as all the other week 10 stuff that went down this Sunday including the Tavon Show, The Panthers continuing to look good and the week's Matt Flynn update. We're also continue to celebrate our golden age of Sports documentaries and talk about some of the gold we've induced over the past couple of weeks.
We're at the halfway point of the season and after looking pretty bum this week on paper - it turned into a cracker of a week and we're here to break down all the triple box busting action. We unfortunately have to cover some pretty unfortunate off field news as Rookies get hazed and stressed out guys get sick but alongside that we cover off some amazing action and also do that think - "if the playoffs were today..." Alas no Inie today but we get our "Wooooooo" from one of our favourite people, Jamie Cutteridge from @UKNFL who steps in and seamlessly fills the vacant pair of Zubaz pants.
Part 2 of the NFL in London in 2013 as we're sure you all know saw the Jacksonville Jaguars host the SF 49ers at Wembley yesterday. Granted it turned out to be the blow out that most of us expected but it followed what was a great week for the sport in this country. We talk about all the great things about this week and recap all the goings on - both inside and outside the stadium. We talk about the match ups for the three games in 2014 as well as the rest of the week 8 news including a truly bananas finish in Detroit..
It's coming home....again.....This week sees Football coming home as the Jacksonville Jaguars come home to face the San Francisco 49ers. We'll be talking about the big game, talking about why the Jags being 17 point underdogs isn't necessarily a bad thing and also talking about all the fun things NFL fans in the capital can do this week. We'll also be breaking down all the key week 7 games and news of the RBI's (real bad injuries...) as well as reviewing the Peyton vs Luck duel and celebrating KC being the NFL's only unbeaten team...Enjoy this week - it'll be great again!
Week 6 in the NFL has been and gone (well nearly) and it was all about two New England Patriots QB's - one from the present Tom Brady with a well, Tom Brady classic and one from the past, Scott Zolak with what will now go down as a Scott Zolak classic - we break down this epic Pats victory against the Saints and all the other week 6 games that mattered as well as giving you ideas on what to spend your Jags covering winnings on. We of course talk about the fact that London has 3 games next season and why it matters to have the Oakland Raiders in our city for a competitive game.
It's week 5 already people and we go all in in celebration of another bananas week in the best league in the world. We break down one of the games of the century in Dallas last night as well as reviewing all the games that mattered from yesterday including the remaining unbeaten teams. We invite Wade Mcelwain from NFL in London on the pod to talk about some betting and life down at the Hippodrome in London and we also reveal THE reason for you to get off the fence and become a Jacksonville Jags fan for this week at least.
It's been a truly amazing week in the best city in the world. The Vikings and Steelers took part in what turned into a really great game and we use the pod this week to break it all down. We welcome back one of our favourite guests, Jamie Cutteridge from @UKNFL and look back over the past week in the capital and celebrate how this has to have been the best International Series games to date. We catch up with M-O-M & general G.O.D Adrian Peterson & some of his fellow Vikings to get their take on being in London this week and as yesterday also saw the end of one of the greatest TV S shows of all time we had to chat Breaking Bad at the end, warning this comes with spoilers so if you don't want to know then peace out with 15 mins to go. Incredible week, it really was.
Welcome to Episode 40 of errmmm....North London 40....and what an episode it is this week. We talk about all the #BUMBACLAATUPSETS that took place across week three, all the unexpected losses and those teams we didn't expect to be 3-0 or inversely 0-3. We talk a lot about what should be a great week in London as the International Series returns to our shores and how after this week one of the Vikings or the Steelers will no longer be winless. We also welcome one of our favourite guests back to the pod to talk us through the shocker that was the Trent Richardson trade and what it means to the Browns and all you Browns fans in London of which there seems to be tonnes - see you all at Wembley this Sunday!
After a week of overreactions and a delayed pod Inie and James are back on Mondays with a round up of Week 2 in the NFL. Some overreactions are still kicking around but we go through the key games and moments and ask - "are these guys actually any good?". We break down a brilliant NFL week and share news of what could be the spot to watch NFL in London, we reflect on the performance of Johnny Football and seeing as it was leaked this morning have to give 10 minutes of shine to Drake at the end as well - as always good North London 40 times!
We're a couple of days later this week thanks to Inie's exam schedule but the good news is the extra couple of days gives us a full chance to cover all the NFL week 1 OVERREACTIONS in full detail, from the Eagles being amazing, the Jets being OK and the Pats being done - we go through all the NFL Week 1 stuff you want to hear about. We also preview this week's top games and take the opportunity to talk about the Monday night games in more detail, much more because we don't normally cover them at all...the NFL 2013 season has begun....
The NFL is baaaaaaack! It starts again this Thursday and what better way to celebrate than with a big 2013 season preview pod with one of our favourite and regular guests, Jamie Cutteridge from @UKNFL and AnyGivenSundayNight. We go through all the teams - who to watch, who not to watch - make some picks and hopefully guide you through the season. We unfortunately decided to give Inie a kids microphone (we stole it from T-Pain) for some of this show so there's a muffled Inie for some sections of this pod (don't worry he's fine..) and it shouldn't spoil a cracking preview pod - let's go!
It's that time of year people - Fantasy Football drafts for the 2013 season start this weekend so we of course decided to do out annual fantasy football draft special. We talk keepers, sleepers, who to avoid and of course who not to avoid. We're joined by a couple of our favourite Londoners - Joe Cohen from the London Blitz & also Wade McElwain from NFL in London who stop by to give us some of their fantasy pearls of Wisdom.
In the midst of this (hopefully) long and hot summer we drop a new North London 40 previewing the upcoming NFL International Series taking place at Wembley this Autumn. We're honoured to be joined by Jared Allen & Kevin Williams of the Minnesota Vikings, Ramon Foster of the Pittsburgh Steelers & Uche Nwareri of the Jacksonville Jaguars who all share their thoughts on the upcoming Wembley games and fill us in on their preparations for the upcoming season that starts in just over 50 days time. Seeing as there isn't that much NFL too actually talk about Inie and James spend the rest of the pod talking about what is going on with their round of of the London Festival Summer so far and their pick of what should be THE summer Jams for the rest of 2013. An officially Turned up show.
The last week or so has been the most religious time we have experienced so far in our North London 40 lives with the uniting of Tim Tebow and the New England Patriots alongside Kanye West's Yeezus being released today. To celebrate these too miracles we had to do a NLDN40 special and talk about these 2 events at length. We invite on London's greatest Hip Hop DJ Rob Pursey to help us talk about Yeezus and well...whether it's any good or not....
We all know there isn't much NFL going on right now so Inie and James decided to pod on the NBA Finals that start tonight. We don't profess to being NBA (or NFL of course) experts so we enlisted one and brought back Sky Sports uber pundit and BritBall OG Martin Henlan to the podcast to help us review the playoffs and preview the much anticipated Miami Heat and SA Spurs finals. In the midst of a very random week we talk about very random headline stealing appearances from the likes of Justin Bieber, Florida's Chain and Papoose as well as some other random NLDN banter - wooooo!
We had a lengthy post draft pod planned but then were hit with the mega news that Tim Tebow had been cut by the Jets as we were about to record. We of course cover the news about the chosen one at length as well as recapping all the drama, thrills and spills of last weeks NFL draft. We also welcome some UK NFL royalty onto NLDN40 with a chat with Tony Allen of the London Warriors to help us shed light on Lawrence Okoye and the other Brits who made NFL teams this week.
To herald the start of the NBA playoffs this weekend Inie and James come with their first ever Basketball edition of North London 40 and welcome aboard a couple of real heavyweight guests to help them breakdown what should be an incredible two months of playoff action. The lads are also joined by one of their favourite pundits of any sport right now, ex English Olympian Baller Martin Henlan from the Sky Sports NBA team who talks playoffs as well as previewing some of the exciting things happening in London from a B-Ball perspective over the next few. A really fun first foray into B-Ball..How did we do?
As we gear up for the start of the new Football season on this side of the pond, Inie and James welcome Sam Tuckey and Rob Hardy from the defending UK Champions the London Blitz to talk about their upcoming European home opener against the Copenhagen Towers. The lads also welcome London Blitz assistant coach and unanimously acclaimed favourite guest of North London 40, Joe Cohen to talk some more Blitz, some Browns and a little NCAA tournament wrap up. It's not all sports this week as Inie and James kill some time at the end, bemoaning but providing no solution to the current lack of comedy amongst the crop of this weeks titanic American TV.
After a five week hiatus Inie and James have finally recovered from their Super Bowl hangovers and are back to fill yall in on what's been happening in the last few crazy days of NFL Free agency. The boys recruit NFL.com's own Marc Sessler to drop some expert knowledge on the Free agency winners, losers and non participants. We also find time to talk a little music and TV revealing which GM in Free Agency has "Frank Underwooded" the game.
As we place another season in the books The North London 40 boys, Inie Banigo and James Hamlin are back to go through all the important talking points of last nights big game (don't worry no spoilers!) In part two of a two parter this week, James and Inie have the pleasure to be joined Sports presenter Arlo White, a veteran of 5 BBC Superbowl Commentaries. Arlo, now based in the States, discusses the growth of the sport here and it's parallels with soccer in the United States. He gives us his Superbowl pick, the importance of all the things that happen around the big game and what it's like being a cricket fan in the United States. We're also joined by Jamie Cutteridge of @UKNFL, he breaks down this past season from Bountygate to Fail Mary and more. He also gives us his favourite prop bets for the game on Sunday. http://jameshamlin.podomatic.com/
In part one of a 2 parter this week (part 2 drops on Wednesday) James and Inie have the pleasure to be joined not only by a Super Bowl Ring holder but also a member of the BBC's punditry team this weekend - ex NFL linebacker Rocky Boiman. Rocky talks about what it's like to be a player in Super Bowl week, talks about his plans for the radio presentation this week and oh did we mention he's ex Notre Dame so we has to talk about...you know what... We're also joined by our first ever guest and one of our favourite NFL talkers, Joe Cohen from the London Blitz - we talk about his picks for the Super Bowl and of course talk about what next season brings for his beloved Cleveland Browns.

James Hamlin and Inie Banigo break down all the drama from two epic conference championship games and welcome a slightly hungover Wade Mcelwaine & Ryan Burr from NFLinLondon.com to help preview what should be an amazing SuperBowl XLV...SUPERBOWL!!!!
This could perhaps have been the greatest weekend of playoff football in living memory and James and Inie recap all the best bits for you in this very special edition of North London 40.
