What do Robin Williams, Michelle Pfeiffer and Mark Olver have in common? Somehow they've all played the role of inspirational teacher at some point. The 90s trope of older grizzled teacher goes to a school of kids who are rough around the edges and shows them the way is one very close to our hearts. So like most comedians we thought why not make that a podcast! In February 2020, Lycett briefly changed his name by deed poll to Hugo Boss as part of a protest against the fashion brand of the same name.

In today's episode we spoke with the incredible Angela Barnes about her comedic influences and inspirations. Angela gave Riki some advice that would be useful for any new comedian. Angela was worries she would give us some "uncool" comedians but it turned out that she came up with some extremely hilarious people that Riki had never heard of before. I usually speak in the 3rd person for these but I have to say this was my favourite ending so far because it really shows what Mark means when he says comedians love comedy. In today's episode Mark gets to finally feel like he's in his comfort zone by doing the thing he's probably done more than anyone else... compèring. To help Riki learn more about it he's gotten the help of the great compère and host Thanyia Moore. Compèring is an important part of any comics toolkit and it can definitely seem intimidating at times. Check out the episode to get some tips on compèring and whether it's for you. Thanyia is an actress, comedian, writer and presenter from London. In 2018 she joined the likes of Katherine Ryan, Andi Osho, Sarah Millican, Miss London Hughes, and Desiree Birch when she was crowned Funny Women Champion, Beating over 400 women in the process. She has been performing comedy since 2012 and is affectionately known as one of the hardest working comedians on the circuit. She is one of the only females in the UK who works both the mainstream and Black comedy scenes simultaneously. This position was cemented when she reached the semi-finals of the BBC New Comedy Award in 2018.
