Delighted to welcome fellow Comedy Improvisation Performer, Writer, Actress & regular "Comedy Store Player", Ruth Bratt to The Good Listening To Show 'Clearing'.Ruth is the 1st 'new recruit' of "The Comedy Store Players" in the last 30 years of their close to 40 year history.  Ruth was 'Passed the Golden Baton' to be in the show by Comedy Store Player Co-Founder Neil Mullarkey, who recorded a "Good Listening To Show" LIVE with me at the Bath Theatre Royal a few months ago.You can also Watch/Listen to Neil's LIVE episode here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5Ye4tXFI4kJust before doing this interview, Ruth Bratt had very recently completed a mammoth 50 hour Improv Marathon (which she does at least once a year - which we talk about) followed by a glass or three afterwards to celebrate! She is also, rather profoundly,  a survivor of having had the extraordinary experience (last Summer) of an unexpected brain haemorrhage, whilst performing live on stage, with "Showstopper: The Musical", in Edinburgh.  This obviously took her months from which to recover - and delighted to say that Ruth is here in the Clearing , very much restored & the 'right way up', made of Sterling stuff indeed! She is a real trooper. A proven performer, who admits to being addicted to improv. A successful co-writer of TV comedy. An amateur potter, an occasional painter, a reliable person who prefers to push herself rather than feel cosy in any normal comfort zone. You can now find Ruth Bratt most Sundays at the Comedy Store, where as a recently signed up member, she is happy to be live and vulnerable. Ruth is proud to be a collaborator, who is inspired by the twinkle in another actor's eyes. And to think, at Nottingham University she thought she fancied becoming a Human Rights Lawyer - until a drama tutor in a small college in North America almost randomly repositioned her career prospects!Ruth would like to remembered simply as being both ‘fun and kind.'On the basis of this interview, that is an odds-on certainty!Tune in next week for more stories of 'Distinction & Genius' from The Good Listening To Show 'Clearing'. We're smack bang in the middle of Men's Month 2023 and this edition is a walk down memory lane, when our Drunk Women took the show to a sell-out crowd at the Edinburgh Fringe, only for poor Hannah to be struck down by the dreaded Covid and so, was forced to head home. But, in her place we recruited the finest sub detective in all the land in the form of actor, comedian and super sleuth, Ruth Bratt! By this time, Ruth was very at home in her role on the force and it didn't take this week's guest too long to get to grips with the ways of Taylor and Catie either, as comedian Christopher Hall lit up the stage and got stuck right in with the drinking and solving. Chris started off the show by recounting a time of teenaged rebellion which ultimately cost him a career as a clarinettist and proves he probably couldn't make it as a wrestler. The team then solve a crime which proves that murder is more of a crowd pleaser than the royal family, and a ‘mum look' can scare the bejesus out of the most hardened criminal. We then hear from a member of the audience with a cautionary tale should you be confronted with someone trained in the way of the samurai. This episode is a splash of pure sunshine, with the veteran of 1000 full-length improvised musicals in Olivier Award-winning “Showstopper!”, Ruth Bratt. She's a supernaturally brilliant improviser and a sparkling human being, who is a) ambitiously lazy and b) feeds off the carrion of her own heart. We talk about her work with some of the biggest names in her craft; entering a waking dream state during 50-hour long improv marathon shows; getting down to the last two for Dobby in “Peep Show”; and the big choice that won her a role in “People Just Do Nothing”.30mins of extras exclusively available to members of the Insiders Club include a fascinating dissection of insider impro/v terms, including “shelving”, “deepening”, “edits, taps and swipes” as well as the “circle of ideas”, not to mention Ruth's experiences of the “horror” of early standup…Catch up with Ruth:www.curtisbrown.co.uk/client/ruth-brattTW: @ruthbrattIG: @brattbombEverything Stu's up to:Discover Stu's comedy about the climate crisis, for everyone from activists to CEOs, at www.stuartgoldsmith.com/climate“The funny side of climate change (no, really!)” - The TimesFind everything else you need at linktr.ee/stuartgoldsmithOr join the mailing list at:www.comedianscomedian.comStu also offers remote and in-person talks to business, distilling insights from over 400 comics on cultivating resilience and the ability to bounce back, to all levels from C-suite to team members.“There's perfect and there's perfect; and that was perfect.” David Cooper, Chief People Officer Circle Health Group Hosted on Acast. Oh, what a night.... well, it was the final show at this year's Edinburgh Fringe, and thank goodness the brilliant comic, Thenjiwe was there to share it with us!As this was the last night without our very own Hannah George, it was also the last occasion our newest, brightest member of the force, Ruth Bratt acted as stand in.The team would like to give a heartfelt thanks to Ruth for stepping in at incredibly short notice, and for being such amazing member of the gang. The only way we can better this is to get Ruth back on one of the live shows with Taylor, Catie AND Hannah all in attendance. Thank you so much Ruth, you are officially the chief of police and a drunk woman who can indeed solve crimes. We were also blessed that guest, Thenjiwe, was not only being an incredible detective, but also proved she had the Monopoly when it comes to crime solving skills, which helped an enormous amount with getting to the bottom of a story which was more than a trunk than a case. We finally heard from a member of the audience, whose criminal story was a bunch of pants - and we mean that in the nicest possible way. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Sooz opens the show with the time she was the meat in a crime sandwich - and a solid lesson in living one's best life, even if you've only got £40 left in the bank. The team then drape themselves over a criminal tale, involving one of the world's most notorious literary figures. XXXMusic by Anne Chmelewsky:https://www.annechmelewsky.comArt work by Lucy Moore: https://www.lucymooreedinburgh.comNominated for best comedy podcast at the British Podcast Awards in 2019, Birthday Girls' House Party is back! Acclaimed sketch trio Beattie Edmondson (the funny one), Camille Ucan (the funny one) and Rose Johnson (the funny one) have combined their two loves into one podcast: house parties and chatting sh*t.Each episode is based on a certain party theme – for example ‘beach party’, ‘Victorian’, ‘baby shower’, ‘pirate’, and loads of other examples – and the girls basically get together with celebs and invite them to share in the riotous fun and craziness. Past guests include the likes of James Acaster, Ed Gamble, Felicity Ward, Lou Sanders, Adam Riches, Suzi Ruffell, Rose Matafeo and many more, and the new run will see names of equal esteem line up to get messy with the potty hosts. So… get ready for a bunch of exciting themes, a lot of oversharing, and some amazing party pals. Think cocktails with Tom Allen, adventures into space with Mae Martin, and a film night with Brett Goldstein – plus LOADS more. Join the girls for fun, games, legends and dicks.Beattie: “Really looking forward to being bullied on a weekly basis by these two ar*eholes.”Camille: “I'm stupidly excited that our podcast is returning because it means Beattie and Rose have to talk to me on a regular basis.”Rose: “I can’t wait to get recording again and have even more of my embarrassing secrets revealed to the world by my two best friends.”Enquiries: hello@keepitlightmedia.com
