Welcome to Dimensional Slip, intermittent interludes in “MOTHER,” She Wrote's journey - where we speak with guests from a multitude of backgrounds and delve deeper into the themes, media, and fandom that make up the tapestry of the EarthBound experience.  In this episode, Cat and Jess cross over with Sarah Rhea Werner, creator of the sci-fi audio drama, Girl in Space, and the voice actor bringing our Ana to life. We unpack the parallels between Sarah and Ana's lives and upbringing; offering deep, personal insight into a character at the heart of EarthBound Beginnings' story, and the struggle of being "brave". We also discuss all-ages science fiction and a book close to Sarah and Cat's hearts that share's many parallels with MOTHER: Madeline L'Engle's A Wrinkle in Time. If you're missing our regularly scheduled audio drama, we've got something to tide your over! Stay tuned to the end of our interview to hear the first episode of Girl in Space! For literally thousands of years, readers have enjoyed stories in the form of printed books. Like me, you probably have lots of novels, poetry books, or collections of short stories lying around your house or office. One of the most interesting developments in fiction is taking place in the world of audio—specifically, podcasting. Of course, audio drama has been around since the invention of the radio, so it's nothing new. But with the popularity of podcasting since the mid-2000s, listeners can now access a huge library of audio fiction. My guest today is Sarah Rhea Werner. She is a writer, professional speaker, and executive producer of Girl In Space, a multiple award-winning sci-fi mystery podcast, the host of the excellent Write Now podcast, and the executive producer of the fantasy audio drama Omen. Sarah's Girl in Space podcast in particular has blown up, with nearly 2,000 ratings on Apple Podcasts. In our conversation, Sarah shares her story behind creating the podcast, how sci-fi reflects cultures, and how to know if you're successful as a writer and creator. Hint: the answer is not so simple. Looks like it’s going to be shorter shows for the next couple weeks. Long story short, my boys being in a summer camp program has totally messed with my daily home schedule and I just don’t have the time for longer shows for a couple weeks. But I did give you a little teaser for an upcoming feature. -Summer Camp-Because of the boys current schedule for their summer camp program, my daily routine has been thrown off a bit. In simplest terms, when I should be sleeping, I’m picking up the boys from school. Also, because of them being in school and hyped up from their day, they don’t want to take a nap when they get home, which means that I can’t take a nap either. Plus, I’ve still got all of my regular house duties. Having to take the boys to school and pick them up in only a couple hours span really puts a pinch on that stuff. I know it’s only for a couple weeks, but it wears on you after a bit.Upcoming FeatureGirl In SpaceAs mentioned by Emily Prokop in ep 150, I have recently been binge listening to the Girl In Space podcast. After all of this summer camp craziness is over, expect a full feature.*Special NoteI mentioned there being a jackass of the week. After recording an extensive rant on the subject, I decided to cut the entire thing from the episode. It’s available for Patreon supporters if you care to listen to me getting political and frustrated all at once. I really just felt like it got way off from where I had originally meant for the subject to go, and ultimately, it was not what this show is supposed to be about. I want you to have fun and enjoy yourselves listening to me make fun of dad life and stupid crime, not get into political discussions.Join the Facebook Group Oddballs: Friends of The Odd Dad Outhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/odddadoutDonate on Patreonhttp://patreon.com/join/odddadoutFollow Along on Social athttps://www.twitter.com/odddadout/https://www.facebook.com/odddadout/https://www.instagram.com/odddadout/

But, Considering we are both passionate about podcasting and are podcast editors, I should have expected we would have spent so much time talking shop. What can I say? You put a couple of podcast editors together and all we can talk about is plugins and breath noises. We gripe about people who want the "podcast franchise" handed to them. Also, we discuss some of our favorite podcasters. What would happen if Apple made a podcast creation app? The difference between Apple vs Android users in podcasting, and why I can't go to the She Podcasts Live conference. #girlinspaceremix Orbiting a distant sun is an abandoned science vessel with a single crewmember. She's been adrift and alone for a very long time, but everything is about to change. This is a collaboration between ourselves and the Girl In Space podcast, a re-imagining of the very first episode. If you are familiar with the story then please enjoy the shifts we made in tone and atmosphere. If you haven't listened to this amazing story yet, please do so immediately. We talk with the creator, Sarah R. Werner, about building an audience, seizing the mantle of writer and are even given a glimpse into the mysteries of X. https://www.girlinspacepodcast.com/episodes/ SFX and Music Contributors SFXDiagnostic buttonsbtn006.wav by junggle of Freesound.orgButtons Sci-Fi (Multi One Shot) by xDimebagx of Freesound.org TurbulenceIn-Cabin Lifoff.flac by qubodup of Freesound.org Background Steampunky Ambiencedronesounds robot motor by Eelke of Freesound.orgCoagula Science! 9 – Rumble!
