Wondery.fm/WIIT_ColdS3Sheree Warren left her job in Salt Lake City on a mild October evening in 1985. She told a coworker she was headed to meet her estranged husband, Charles Warren, at a car dealership. But she never made it, Sheree vanished. When her car mysteriously surfaced weeks later, hundreds of miles away in Las Vegas, no one could say how it got there. When a young mother disappears under unexplained circumstances, police always turn suspicious eyes towards the husband. She also had a boyfriend, a former cop named Cary Hartmann, who lived a sinister double life.Season three follows two suspects– men who both raised suspicion for investigators. But with two strong persons of interest with competing facts and evidence, it muddied the murder investigation. Texas a known for being tough on crime and those who commit it. Or at least the ones who get caught. There are 10s of 1000s of unsolved homicides in Texas and nearly as many open missing persons cases. Every week, Gone Cold Podcast - Texas True Crime presents in-depth accounts of unsolved murders and missing persons cases throughout the lone star state, concentrating on lesser known cases that the media has long left behind. Cases like the recently solved 1974 abduction and murder of Fort Worth High School student Carla Walker and the 1968 Massacre at Loma Alta, where the entire Arellano family was slaughtered by a depraved killer, to the 2008 Port Aransas Killing of Christopher Tiensch, a whistleblower whose choice to do the right thing might have cost him his life. This is a preview of Gone Cold's coverage of the 1994 sexual assault and murder of 16-year-old Trellis “Tree” Sykes, an all-star track and basketball player at her high school, located in the most impoverished and crime-ridden neighborhood in Houston – Sunnyside. When the perpetrator of a series of heinous and ultra-violent sexual assaults was apprehended years after Tree's slaying, it was thought to be the break detectives needed. But the Trellis “Tree” Sykes case remains unsolved. Dave is not only an investigative journalist for KSL but a writer, and photographer. Dave and Celene Beth talk about the parallels in the Powell & Daybell cases, as well as advocacy work within the true crime community. Have you listened to the Cold Podcast? Its a true crime podcast that is well researched. It talks about the story behind the crime and the emotions the wife was going through. Marriage isn't easy, but when you are married to a narcissist, it can be difficult to know truth from abuse. When someone makes you feel you aren't good enough, you begin to believe it. When someone manipulates the situation it becomes difficult to sort the truth. The story inside the Cold podcast happens every day. Many women make it but many don't. This episode is one womans story. If you are in an abusive situation, get help. Your life matters..

Susan Powell went missing in the early Winter of 2009, and disappeared without a trace. Amongst many suspicious circumstances in this case, she left behind two young boys who she loved dearly. Several Theories Try to Explain This Mysterious Noise (16:37)Guest: Glen MacPherson, Director of the World Hum Map and Database ProjectAll around the world, people claim to hear a persistent low humming noise that's sometimes known as the World Hum. Not everyone can hear it. Just some people. The noise usually follows them wherever they go. Glen Macpherson built a steel box to see if he could block out the humming. But even inside of it, the noise was there. MacPherson is not a conspiracy theorist –though there are plenty of those chasing down the world hum. MacPherson's take is more scientific. He's a high school science and math teacher and director of the World Hum Map and Database Project which is trying to solve the mystery of the Hum. (Originally aired June 4, 2019) Rock-Eating River Worms (36:02)Guest: Dan Distel, Research Professor of Marine Science and Director Of The Ocean Genome Legacy Center at Northeastern UniversityThere's a worm-like clam that's recently made a come-back to Brooklyn piers and is causing millions of dollars of damage. The shipworm bores into and digests wood, making little tunnels that permanently weaken the structure. (51:10)Guest: Richard Gunderman, MD, Ph.D., Chancellor's Professor of Radiology, Pediatrics, Medical Education, Philosophy, Liberal Arts, Philanthropy, and Medical Humanities and Health Studies, Indiana UniversitySome physicians are worried this flu season could be particularly bad. Australia just went through one of its worst flu seasons, and that can sometimes inform what our flu season in the US will be like. But nothing comes close to the flu pandemic a century ago that killed 50 million people worldwide. Could a pandemic like that happen again? (Originally aired November 28, 2018) War Games Play Pivotal Role in Military Strategy and International Relations (1:13:06)Guest: David Shlapak, Senior Defense Researcher at the RAND CorporationBefore a country launches an actual military strike, it will often conduct military exercises –war games, they're sometimes called –as a form of sabre rattling to warn an enemy. Iran is doing that right now on its border with Turkey –an apparent response to Turkey's airstrikes inside Syria. At the start of the summer, the US military participated in a military practice exercise in the Arctic Circle –in full view of Russia. Vincent From Gone Cold Podcast - Take a walk down Fascination Street with me as I get to know Vincent Strange. Vincent is the host of the super successful podcast: GONE COLD PODCAST - Texas True Crime. In this episode we chat about how Vincent got into podcasts and eventually into podcasting. We also talk about what drew him to the true crime genre, and why he chose to focus on unsolved cases in The Lone Star State. This is an amazingly well put together show with interviews and insight from some of the players involved in each case; including interviews from the victims' families, friends, and even officers and agents that worked these cases.
