Hello Epic listeners! This week, we'd like to introduce you to another action-packed audio drama on the Realm network that we think you'll enjoy -- The Leviathan Chronicles! The Leviathan Chronicles | Season 1, Episode 1: Evil Undertow A highly advanced Chinese submarine, the Hei Ten Shi, is on a mysterious mission to deliver an otherworldly cargo to the Marianas Trench, the deepest part of the Earth's ocean. The Chinese vessel suffers damage while maneuvering through the tight oceanic canyons. Because the vessel is now sinking rapidly, it enters a race against time to reach its destination, deliver its cargo and rise to the surface. But before it can release the cargo that is weighing it down, the Chinese vessel is intercepted by an American submarine, the USS Dakota, on a routine patrol to Pearl Harbor. The Chinese submarine dives to over 21,000 feet to avoid engagement. But before the Chinese can escape, the cargo "activates" sending out strange pulses of radiation that cause both the American and Chinese submarines to have massive system failures. As the Hei Ten Shi separates the main components of its ship, the Dakota fears an attack and launches its torpedoes destroying a large part of the Hei Ten Shi. One year later, a CIA operative named Whitt Roberts is called to meet with Jason Sterling. Sterling is part of the Blackdoor Group, a highly clandestine arm of the CIA that acts in complete autonomy from the rest of the US Government and its laws. Whitt has been called upon to investigate the disappearance of the Dakota, but Jason Sterling seems to know more than he is letting on. Whitt explains that a powerful signal was sent out from the Marianas Trench. But what is even more unusual is that the signal appears to have been answered from a source in outer space. Jason tells Whitt that he wants him to abandon his search for the Dakota and focus on a new target...in New York City. Before the year was over I wanted to squeeze in one more episode, and I'm really happy with who I was able to get! My guest today is someone whose work I only recently discovered a few years ago, but he's been honing his craft for many many years before that. My guest today is Christof Laputka, the creator of The Leviathan Chronicles. A story that has captivated thousands of listeners across the world, and inspired countless other creators to enter the world of audio drama. But the journey Christof has taken to get to where he is today is a unique one. He sacrificed a stable, lucrative career to chase his dreams and make the world of leviathan a reality. And in this episode we'll explore what kept him going despite hard economic times, creative insecurities, and even tragic personal loss… Enjoy the show! This week we’re traveling to a hidden city in the darkest, deepest reaches of the Pacific Ocean to a Utopian society. Brought to us by Christof Laputka this is The Leviathan Chronicles. An audio drama that although has never been completed is in my top five I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. The Leviathan Chronicles tells the stories of Immortal beings trapped in a civil war and how a young genetic scientist named Macallan Orsel is trapped between who she was led to believe she was and who she truly is. She must navigate the water per say to find who and what she really is and decide how she is going to better society as we know it and the society of immortals that she comes to learn about. If you enjoy this episode please take a moment to follow The Leviathan Chronicles on social media and subscribe to them wherever you’re listening to Podcast Junkie. [Featured Image is "Pillars of Creation" by roald92 on DeviantART] Guest Host K.C. Wayland - creator of the amazing and award-winning "We're Alive" audio drama series - returns to the Big Chair at the Roundtable for a landmark story workshopping event. We've brainstormed, short stories, novels, and even songs on the RTP, but we've never workshopped an audio drama series script before... until now! Our Guest Writer for this episode - the mighty Bryan Lincoln - offers up a bold new scifi concept for an audio drama series featuring relativistic space travel and the evolution of the human species amid the stars. With the fabulous Christof Laputka - creator of the exceptional "Leviathan Chronicles" - as my co-host, we launch into an utterly unique brainstorming session, exploring not only the world and story of Bryan's idea, but also considerations of soundscapes and audio signatures. It's a RTP episode unlike any other, but one thing remains the same... at the end, there's a mountain of Literary Gold for everyone! Few people have impacted the world of audio theater in recent years like this week's Guest Host, K.C. Wayland. Back in 2009, while the most of the world was just waking up to podcasting and the notion of audiobooks (and "Walking Dead" was still a year and a half from its debut), KC was writing and producing the award winning "We're Alive" audio drama series, a tale of survival set against the backdrop of a zombie apocalypse. The superior production, performance, and storytelling of "We're Alive" raised the bar on audio entertainment and inspired a renaissance of tales told through the "theater of the mind". That alone would make this a spectacular 20(ish) minutes, but wait... there's more. My co-host for this episode is none other than the creator of the remarkable "Leviathan Chronicles" audio drama, Christof Laputka! With these two storytelling maestros together in the virtual RTP studio, you KNOW this is going to be a fabulous discussion. Tune in as we explore the distinctions between literary and audio storytelling, crafting action scenes in audio drama, killing characters, sensory challenges in audio drama, and more.
