The 60th Adelaide Fringe will officially open with Tindo Utpurndee (sunset ceremony) and a celebration of Aboriginal culture in Rymill Park/Mullawirraburka. Karl Telfer joined Nikki Marcel on Festival City to explain the ceremony recognises and honours the living customs of First Nations people, pays respect to the spirit of the land and give thanks to elders past, present and emerging.

With his new service StuffHire, Adelaide entrepreneur Tristan McAvoy hopes to help us all save waste and money by linking us to people willing to hire us tools, equipment, camping gear—whatever it may be—that would be too expensive to buy outright. Dyson Stringer Cloher is a supergroup of three of Australia’s most accomplished and dynamic songwriters: Jen Cloher, Mia Dyson and Liz Stringer. Kurdish novelist, journalist and asylum-seeker Behrouz Boochani has arrived in New Zealand after being released from detention on Manus Island. This time last year, Boochani spoke to The Wire‘s Annie Hastwell from Manus about his book No Friend But the Mountains, his fascinating and heart-wrenching story, translated to English from laboriously tapped-out WhatsApp messages in Farsi. No Friend But the Mountains details Boochani’s five years of incarceration on Manus Island after fleeing Iran to seek asylum in Australia and was this year awarded the Victorian Prize for Literature.Support the show.

White Ribbon Day is the international day for the eradication of violence against women, and people everywhere are speaking up. Australian singer-songwriter Carus Thompson, inspired by current issues, has tackled this topic in his new single Ship To Come In. Almost a year ago, the Federal Government committed to developing a package of legislative reforms that would further protect freedom of religion under Australian law and in the community.
