In episode 15 ACEFIELD RETRO returns with MIKE BELCASTER AND A VERY SPECIAL GUEST MATT FROM EXTRA COOLER to discuss the JULY 1st NITRO & the BASH AT THE BEACH PPV live from DAYTONA baby! We pull the engine, get it started, and point the time machine towards 1996. As usual, we thumb through the newsletter as it happened in real-time fresh off the fingertips of good ol' Dave Meltzer onto what had to be a typewriter or an early word processing computer. Titan Sports OFFICIALLY filed both a LAWSUIT and a request for a restraining order against Turner Broadcasting, World Championship Wrestling, and Eric Bischoff largely as a result of WCW's top angle involving Kevin Nash and Scott Hall invading WCW. Vince trying to angle himself as the little engine that could and the Mom & Pop shop being targeted. We touch on more drama with ULTIMATE WARRIOR on the WWF side. Who would have guessed that it would not work out with the always interesting Ultimate Warrior?! FINALLY, what was the reaction in the newsletter to HOGAN'S HEEL TURN? WAS THAT ALWAYS THE PLAN?! As always, this episode is sure to be an incredible time with the main homie Belly to Belcaster and our fellow POD FOUNDATION brethren, Matt from Extra Cooler Who knows how many DQ finishes will force us to take SHOTS OF NOSTALGIA live on air?! We will continue to take the temperature of the wrestling world's events in 1996. We place it and compare it to 2022's wrestling landscape as well. Amazing conversation! Michael Stuart Ani joins us for Season 1 (2021) of Birdsong. Michael has been a student of plant wisdom for fifty years. As a young man, the Lakota sage, John Fire Lame Deer, guided Michael through his first peyote ceremony and then sent him south to Mexico in search of the steps of the Ghost Dance. These steps led Michael to the Sierra Mazateca of Oaxaca, famous for its sacred mushrooms. From the end of the 1960's era through to the 1970's, Ani lived in the most remote part of the region. He became the only outsider who was ever allowed to collect Desheto, the sacred mushroom species of the deep tropical cloud forest of Chicon Nindo. He was instrumental in fighting the epidemics among the Yanomami people in the rainforests of Venezuela. He also helped to create a school to teach local indigenous people to be healthcare officers in the emerging Alto Orinoco Biosphere Reserve. His work in Venezuela was subsequently featured in the 1994 documentary, Yanomami, Keepers of the Flame, which won the US Environmental Film Festival's Best Documentary of the Year. Keepers of the Flame also became the feature film at the 1994 Brazilian Earth Summit. In 2002, Ani focused his attention back on the Northern States of the Americas and worked to restore some of the very last genetically pure Bison to the Brule, Lakota tribes on the Rosebud reservation in South Dakota. While on Rosebud, Ani responded to the requests of tribal elder Leonard Crow Dog and brought an eyeglass clinic to the reservation. Because of his efforts in South America and Mexico, and his work to build a ceremony house for renowned healer Grandpa Roy Stone, the Amazonia Foundation was honored by being included as an organization under the umbrella of the National Congress of American Indians. Michael has fulfilled his promise to Desheto by writing the book, “The Ghost Dance; an untold history of the Americas”. His catchprase “TALKING PLANTS” refers to a small group of fungi and plants that he believes have developed the ability to communicate with both humans and animals. Michael feels that these plants are key to survival in an uncertain future. “Operational Real Estate” is an asset class with the easiest-to-negotiate owners in the world. 15-20% of the market is made up of multinational syndications. The remaining 80-85% consists of Mom & Pop operators — people who overlook how sought after their property is — meaning you get high rental yield properties at a bargain price. Speaking of sought after, “Operational Real Estate” has never-ending demand. In fact, its demand increases during recessions. And the best part? Investors see a fully passive double digit annualized return — 10%+. And by the way, these are only a fraction of the benefits of “Operational Real Estate.” In today's episode, Chris Larsen, host of the Next Level Income Podcast, reveals the easiest way you can invest in “Operational Real Estate.” He also shares a sneaky way to add an extra 100 “clients” to your business — without owning or running said business. Listen now! Show Highlights Include: Why listening to Dave Ramsey's ramblings about financial security robs you of financial freedom (4:20) How to generate 100 clients who pay you a $1,500 a month (without owning or running said business) (5:16) Watch the moolah pile up in your bank account when you stumble upon a “demographic driven business” (and achieve 50% profit margins) (7:23) Add an extra 0 to the end of your back account this upcoming recession with a business model which taps into humans' “MMFB” trait (15:40) How to make customers cheer with glee by only accepting credit cards (it's not for convenience or the speed of the credit card either) (16:56) [Investors] Achieve double digit annualized cash flows by washing a Toyota Camry (23:22) Why purchasing “operational real estate” with no idea how to operate it sabotages your ability to sell it for a profit later on (26:29) If you liked the episode, leave me a review on whichever app you listen to podcasts on. We had the pleasure of interviewing EVAN GIIA about her journey in music and upcoming performance at M3F Fest over Zoom video!M3F Fest, North America's most celebrated non-profit music festival, has announced the lineup for the highly-anticipated 2023 edition at Margaret T. Hance Park in downtown Phoenix, Arizona from March 3-4. M3F donates 100% of festival proceeds to charity with a record $1.2 million donated last year and $4.4 million donated since 2004.Beyond the lineup, M3F has also announced the launch of its new M3F Fund. Expanding on their current charity focus, the festival has opened up funding to the public by offering an open application to non-profit or 501(c)(3) organizations that have clear objectives and a measurable way to assess progress. All organizations must submit a detailed plan of the requested amount of funding and how it will be allocated and a project timeline. The festival prioritizes funding related to the four primary pillars of its organization, which are Community, Education, Arts, and Environment. This expanded approach also provides more transparency to attendees with an updated process that requires organizations to provide a more detailed list of how they intend to use the funds, following up throughout the year to check in on where donations went to and creating a short video that details how the money was spent once. Attendees also play a key role in the M3F Fund. When fans buy a ticket to have a great time with their friends, they are also giving back to the community around them.M3F's lineup will once again bring together an eclectic group of artists across the worlds of indie, pop, R&B, electronic, and more. This includes the beloved Grammy-nominated vocalist Maggie Rogers, forward-thinking English beatmaker and producer Jamie xx, French electronic duo Polo & Pan, Detroit singer Quinn XCII, and the off-kilter sounds of the multi-talented Toro y Moi.Additional highlights include and German disco & house producer Purple Disco Machine, Mom + Pop signee Ashe, Nashville indie-rockers COIN, Connecticut pop and electronic singer Chelsea Cutler, the addicting sounds of Canadian indie favorites Peach Pit, Australian electronic producer Hayden James, Brit Awards “Best Dance Act” winner Becky Hill, and much more.Originally spawned as a team-building exercise for its producers, Wespac Construction, the festival acts as a philanthropic flagship for the City of Phoenix. The 2022 edition of M3F raised 1.2 million for charity, which doubled the amount of their previous edition in 2020. This included donations to organizations like the Music Therapy Program from Phoenix Children's Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, Backline, Artist Advocacy Foundation, United Way, Arizona Helping Hands, Saving Amy, and more.M3F also partnered with Tonic to put on a block party in Phoenix to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The event was free and featured music from Whethan, Surf Mesa, and thom.ko. This partnership with Tonic will see them donate $1 from every can sold in the state of Arizona during October to the Wendt Family Breast Cancer Program at St. Joseph's. Donations will ensure community members have access to the best breast cancer care possible, allowing more patients to receive life-saving treatment.Beyond music and charity, M3F also focuses its attention on sustainability with over 80% of waste being recycled each year. Guests can also enjoy an amazing variety of food and beverage offerings, art installations, and activities with more details to be announced ahead of M3F.Tickets for M3F are now on sale and can be purchased through their official website. We want to hear from you! We had the pleasure of interviewing Ashe over Zoom video!California-based, RIAA Platinum-certified singer-songwriter Ashe releases her sophomore album Rae via Mom + Pop along with the video for latest single “omw.” Fourteen tracks in length, and created with close friends and collaborators Leroy Clampitt, Steph Jones, Casey Smith, Noah Conrad, John Ryan and Afterhrs, Rae ushers in a new era of confidence for the artist. Additionally, Ashe has announced her 2023 global “Fun While It Lasted Tour”, with venues to be revealed next week.On the new album, Ashe shares, “Since my debut is called Ashlyn and Rae is my middle name, it seemed like the only name for my sophomore album. I've inevitably created a trilogy. Rae reminds me of California sunshine, but it also has a Western grit. Every day, you're in the middle of your life from being born to dying. I'm in the middle of my life. Rae marks the next era.”Rae kicks off with first single, “Another Man's Jeans”, which cuts right to the chase in conversation with an ex. Wild guitar licks wrap around handclaps as horns pipe up in the background before she declares, “I don't want to talk about the fights in your mustang, let's just think about the nights drinking rosé-colored champagne.”Later on, she is joined by her life-long hero and fashion icon, Diane Keaton for the beautiful and soothing “Love Is Letting Go”, her dusky delivery coasts over embers of acoustic guitar and a soft beat on “Hope You're Not Happy.” Ominous percussion simmers, she takes aim at prehistoric industry sexism on “Angry Woman.” With its psychedelic Floyd-inspired title, “Shower With My Clothes On” bottles anxiety inside of minor chords and a dynamic delivery. The upbeat piano, buoyant tambourine and seventies-style groove of “omw” embodies her confidence. Rae concludes on “Fun While It Lasted.” Written on a slightly out of tune piano in Big Bear, California, she ponders the end of the previous chapter and the beginning of the next.Ashe will embark on her global headline, “Fun While It Lasted Tour.” The 39-date tour spans across North America, Europe, United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. See full dates below. Ashe has partnered with PLUS1 and a portion of all tour proceeds will go to supporting organizations working for equity, access, and dignity for all.Ashe's breakthrough debut, Ashlyn spawned multiple global hits, including “Moral Of The Story” and “Till Forever Falls Apart” - with FINNEAS - which was named one of the best songs of 2021 by the Los Angeles Times and surpassed 145 million streams on Spotify. Her meteoric rise includes amassing over 1.8 billion streams, 230 million video views, 8.9 million monthly Spotify listeners and a 4 million combined social media reach. We want to hear from you! Do you have a BLACK thumb and kill every houseplant that you bring into the house? Decorating with house plants is one of my top 5 secrets for elevating the look of your home in a weekend. Want to know the other four? https://bit.ly/5homesecrets But if you kill every house plant you bring in to the house would it be better to buy fake plants? NO! Start small with your pocket book so you can take risks and grow in confidence as a plant parent. Starting small means shopping smart. Here are FIVE places you can shop for house plants on a budget: 1. IKEA: Skip the fake plants and head straight toward the LARGE plants. These are beautiful, thrive for long periods of time and cost a fraction of the price at a nursery. 2. Hardware stores (& Walmart) in the 'I'm barely living, highly discounted' plant section: Skip the full-priced plant retail section and find the plant stand in the back corner of the store that has all of the deeply discounted plants. These ones are barely surviving and look like it. They need some TLC, but their needs means you'll do research. Your research will help them come out of their growth slump. 3. Local grocery stores: Sometimes a small offering, but take a look the next time you're shopping. Though the variety is limited the prices are competitive. 4. Mom & Pop nurseries: Skip the BIG, flashy, fancy nurseries that advertise from all corners of the universe. The fancy buildings, the cafes inside, the billboard directing the way - all of those are indicators that the prices are going to be high. Search out the local, corner mom and pop plant stand. Maybe it's on Facebook Marketplace or maybe it's in the gravel parking lot of your local grocery station. Their variety won't compare to the big-name nurseries but the prices can't be beat. 5. Your own home: Dividing plants when they get too big for their pot is a great way to get more plants from what you already have. Propagate plant shoots by cutting a small section and placing it in water to let it take root. Once roots form you are ready to plant it in a new pot. // Links mentioned in show: // Facebook Community: https://bit.ly/design101group Email: figandfarmathome@gmail.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/figandfarm/ Happy planting! xo, dani

Beach Bunny - “Entropy” from the 2022 album Emotional Creature on Mom + Pop. From TikTok buzzband to their sophomore album Emotional Creature, Chicago-based band Beach Bunny have earned a devoted following, including producer Butch Vig and actor Bob Odenkirk, who even appears in one of their music videos. A huge part of their appeal is the confessional and, ultimately, relatable lyrics from frontwoman Lili Trifilio. On today's Song of the Day, she tells Stereogum, she took inspiration from the Jonas Brothers for this infectious, polished pop song. Reflecting on her journey as a musician, she continues, "As a young kid I was watching Hannah Montana thinking that was the most unrealistic expectation of all time. But now here I am and all of it happened organically; it just goes very slowly over many, many years. If you want to do something in a creative field, make it a passion project and try it for a few years. You'll learn what you want to do, or you'll get to go on a journey. Embark on your journeys! Don't settle! I mean it! Oh, and don't date toxic boys. Or I guess, if you do, at least you'll have songs to write about them." FKJ - Greener (feat. Santana) from the 2022 album V I N C E N T on Mom + Pop. How do you get legendary guitar virtuoso Carlos Santana to perform on one of your songs? Well, according to multi-instrumentalist FKJ (that's short for French Kiwi Juice, but his real name is Vincent Fenton), you just need to ask nicely. As he explains in a press release, "I told him I would listen to the radio as a young boy, in the days before Spotify, waiting for his song 'Smooth' to come on so I could tape it, and that he plays his instrument like it has its own language and it speaks to me. I just didn't think he'd end up saying he'd be happy to play on my track." Santana himself had this to say about their soulful jam: “It is a joy to collaborate and share music with my brother Vincent (FKJ) on ‘Greener.' Together we have painted a canvas of color, texture and musicality that we know will bring you courage and a deep awareness of your own light and life. Once that happens, there's no division, separation, or fear. It's just joy.” Read the full post on KEXP.org Support the show: https://www.kexp.org/donate See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In the latest episode of Hospitality Hangout, Michael Schatzberg “The Restaurant Guy” and Jimmy Frischling “ The Finance Guy” were on the road at the Restaurant Franchising & Innovation Summit in Nashville. Schatzberg and Frischling chat with Laura Rea Dickey, CEO of Dickey's Barbecue Restaurants, Inc., Josh Goodman, Founder & CEO, of PourMyBeer, Cherryh Cansler, Editor of FastCasual.com and VP of Events at Networld Media Group, and Josh Halpern, CEO at Big Chicken, about the summit and latest innovations in technology being highlighted at RFIS. Dickey, stops by and talks about being back in person at the Restaurant Franchising & Innovation Summit, being a presenter at the summit and how data is driving the restaurant industry. She talks about the importance of being able to pull data, clean it, and present it back in a way that is simple and actionable. She says, “If you can do that with your data, then you're not drowning in that data lake, you could really use that data to drive the business forward.” She shares that Dickey's built and launched its own proprietary data analytics platform 10 years ago. Dickey shares that because of their in-house technology, the restaurant's management is able to run their own POS, loyalty initiatives and scale the business, which now has 550 locations. PourMyBeer, Founder & CEO, Josh Goodman, stops by for his second time on the podcast. He chats with Frischling and Schatzberg about how the other attendees and operators are reacting to the self-serve revolution that PourMyBeer is leading. Goodman talks about partnering with Coca-Cola. He says that by implementing the technology developed by PourMyBeer within the European market, at places like amusement parks, Coca-Cola has seen gains between 140% to 180% in both increased revenue and traction. Goodman shares that whether the company is collaborating with a Mom & Pop shop or at the enterprise level, technology is paramount. He says, “Your technology has to evolve.” He adds, “That's really where we've been focusing our energies, is getting our technology aligned with the various point of sale systems through direct integrations with them, because it all comes down to checks and balances.”Cansler checks in to chat about moderating the summit's session, ‘Getting into the Self-Service Game'. She talks about how operators are eager to enter the self-service space but have questions regarding things such as, how to determine which system is best for their business, what set-up costs look like and ROI. She says, “We're going to let each panelist tell their story about why they've entered self-service, how they're using it, whether it is a kiosk, or a beverage wall, how much it costs, ROI. Everybody wants it, but is it cost effective?” Cansler talks about the overall success of RFIS, adding that over 350 guests are attending this year. Cansler adds, “It's our biggest year yet, even before COVID”. She says that the talk of the summit has been all about innovation, from ‘what's new', to ‘what's going on', to ‘what does the future hold'. Regarding the future, Cansler gives a sneak peek into details for the upcoming Fast Casual Executive Summit, happening this October, in Indianapolis.Big Chicken, CEO, Josh Halpern, talks about his summit session, ‘Executive Perspectives: Inspiration for Today's Restaurant Leaders'. He shares his insights on the importance of working together to mitigate each other's pain points. He says, “We learned there's five pain points; driving traffic, driving check size, being innovative, having well engaged staff and a capable supply chain”. He adds, “So if we work together to mitigate those pain points as an entire community, to make sure the guest has a great experience, franchisees are profitable and suppliers have what they need, beautiful things could happen fast.” To hear more from all of the guests that stopped by Hospitality Hangout at the Restaurant Franchising & Innovation Summit, tune into this episode of Hospitality Hangout on Spotify.

No matter where you are in your career, you'll benefit from listening to 3Q. 3Q provides a window into the careers of some of the best in the music business. Every episode is an insider's view of the realities of life as a music executive. Topics include issues of empowerment, uncertainty, trust, finances, etc; issues that will impact you both personally and professionally. The executives we interview represent every aspect of the industry including but not limited to A&R, Marketing, Music Supervision, Artist Management, Promotion, and more. The best part? Every executive answers the same three questions and 3Q never takes more than 15 minutes of your time. About Suzanna: Suzanna Slavin is SVP of A&R at independent record label Mom+Pop. She began her career at the label as an intern in 2013, eventually landing a full-time job in January 2014. Working alongside Founder and Co-President, Michael Goldstone as his Executive Assistant/A&R scout, she began to research and pitch viable new talent while building a presence in the industry by attending shows and seeking out prospective signings. As her career progressed, she began to do A&R coordination across the roster. In 2016 Suzanna was promoted to A&R Manager. At that time, she had brought forth Australian producer and multi-instrumentalist, Tash Sultana and played a vital role in their signing. In the years to come, Suzanna was instrumental in the signings of French producer FKJ and GRAMMY-nominated electronic artist, Tycho. In 2019, Suzanna stepped into her role as Director of A&R and a year later was promoted to VP of A&R. She now serves as SVP of A&R since January 2022. In the last couple of years, she was involved in competitive signings such as Chicago-based band Beach Bunny and indie-R&B artist Evann McIntosh.

RJ Curtis, former past president of Country Radio Seminar (CRS) joins us in the studio. After being forced to take a year off due to the pandemic and having to go virtual, the Country Radio Broadcasters Association announces the return of in-person CRS which will be held on Feb. 23-25, 2022. RJ talks about what potential attendees should know about this year's event. The upcoming conference will focus on all aspects of the Country Radio business, providing information on how to be successful in this ever changing world. Whether you're a corporate radio conglomerate, an independent “Mom & Pop” radio station, a DSP, or internet radio, this conference is designed to help you make it thru the challenges and emerging trends in country radio and how they might impact artists and industry members. We also discuss the newly announced Lisa McKay Women In Radio Scholarship Program, a scholarship for young, female broadcasters created in honor of the late Lisa McKay, a radio veteran who fiercely championed young female broadcasters. Even if you're not into Country Music, this is still a vital, and informative topic of discussion regarding terrestrial radio, and how they're working to co-exist with satellite and other platforms. RJ Curtis is a 41-year Country radio/Music Row executive whose career has impacted nearly every aspect of the format. His resume features 30 years in major market radio (Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Antonio), where he served as Program Director, Operations Manager, Music Director, and on-air talent for iconic radio brands such as KNIX/Phoenix, KCYY/San Antonio and KZLA/Los Angeles, as well as the nationally syndicated “After Midnite” show. Curtis later spent 13 years providing insight, analysis, and commentary on the Country music industry while writing and reporting for Radio & Records Magazine, Billboard, Country Aircheck, and All Access Music Group. His experience includes time in the record industry, too, with Arista Nashville, as Dir./Regional Promotion. A 20-year CRB Board member and the organization's past President, VP, Secretary, and Treasurer, Curtis transitioned to his current role as CRB Executive Director in 2018. He has served on the Board of Directors of both ACM and CMA and has served on the St. Jude Children's Hospital Radio Advisory Board since 2015. Hi! In this episode of Chinese Food Fight Club, we check in with Lydia and Leo Lee, the mom-and-pop team behind Cantonese barbecue restaurant RiceBox in downtown Los Angeles. Lydia and Leo Lee opened RiceBox in 2018 and quickly turned their tiny restaurant into a game-changing standard-bearer for contemporary Cantonese barbecue, including what Los Angeles magazine named as the city's best char siu in 2020. The success of RiceBox involves a family recipe from a Hong Kong restaurant that Lydia's grandfather owned. But the restaurant's ascension is also largely due to Leo's cooking experience and creativity, which has led to innovations like merging Cantonese roast pork with porchetta. Leo was born and raised in Mexicali, Mexico, where his parents had a Chinese restaurant. He then graduated from The Culinary Institute of America in New York and worked at the Patina Restaurant Group in LA before opening RiceBox with Lydia, who grew up in Hong Kong and Vancouver. The Lees are also new parents, who had their son, Ari, during the pandemic. Chinese Food Fight Club is a multimedia platform and consultancy inspired by a dining club created by Andy Wang and Danica Lo at Legend in New York City in 2011. Our mission is to connect the Chinese-American community with other Asian communities while amplifying the stories of Asian and Asian-American creators, chefs, artists, activists, policy-makers, technologists, entrepreneurs, and small businesses. You can find us elsewhere on the internet at Instagram and you can watch these episodes on YouTube. In the first episode of the Real Slice, Michael and Siler sit down with Christal Spata of Valeo's Pizza in Kenosha, WI. Valeo's has been a fixture and pillar of the community for over 50 years, and is one of the original three pizzerias that opened in Kenosha, WI over half a century ago. The pizzeria is housed in an unremarkable building tucked away in a residential section of the city. Owner and Chief Leadership Development Officer, Christal Spata, explains their pizzeria, “We're not much. We are a carryout/delivery place – we have no dine-in, just a little lobby to come get it. 1,600 square feet – we're a tight organization. I can't tell you how many times I've driven down the road and passed the place – like, it is a Mom & Pop, hole-in-the-wall establishment. And I'm going ‘Dang it; I just passed my own business again!' But I do, because it is just this hidden gem that is just the heart of Kenosha.”
