It's 1983, and projects abound for the three former Beatles at the start of the new year. Ringo Starr was in the process of finalizing a brand new solo LP release, with the hopes that a consistent producer and collaborator (former Eagle Joe Walsh) would reverse his fortunes and allow him to once again score a hit record. While Ringo revved up, George was revving down, with the single I Really Love You marking Harrison's last release before a self-proclaimed indefinite musical hiatus. As George and Ringo planned for the future, McCartney found himself again ensconced in the "now", recording a brand new music video for his smash-hit recording partnership with the biggest pop star on the planet - Michael Jackson. Macca was also hard at work filming and recording for his planned solo film Give My regards to Broadstreet - which just so happened to feature new music from both Paul and Ringo, playing together once more... The North Wing of The Danny Lane Music Museum is dedicated to Northern Soul. Northern Soul is its own genre of music that grew out of the underground rhythm and soul scene of the late 1960s at venues such as the Twisted Wheel in Manchester, England (UK). This music and the associated dances and fashions quickly spread to other UK dancehalls and nightclubs like the Chateau Impney (Droitwich), Catacombs (Wolverhampton), the Highland Rooms at Blackpool Mecca, Golden Torch (Stoke-on-Trent) and Wigan Casino. The Northern part of the name refers to where in the UK the popularity first grew. It all started in Northern England and the English Midlands in the late 1960s, based on a particular style of black American soul music. A large proportion of Northern soul's original audience came from within the 1960s mod subculture. Northern soul reached the peak of its popularity in the mid- to late-1970s. At this time, there were soul clubs in virtually every major town in the Midlands and the North of England. The three venues regarded as the most important in this decade were the Golden Torch in Tunstall, Stoke-on-Trent (1971 to 1972), Blackpool Mecca (1971 to 1979) and Wigan Casino (1973 to 1981). In the book Last Night a DJ Saved My Life: the history of the DJ, the authors describe Northern soul as "a genre built from failures", stating: "...Northern Soul was the music made by hundreds of singers and bands who were copying the Detroit sound of Motown pop. Most of the records were complete failures in their own time and place... but in Northern England from the end of the 1960s through to its heyday in the middle 1970s, were exhumed and exalted." On this special episode I read mindfulness writings from my Facebook page accompanied by brain rubbing music! The intro/outro music is I Really Love You by Dee Dee Sharp cory-allen.com/theastralhustle @_coryallen Cory Allen Facebook http://www.cory-allen.com/review
An intense feeling of deep affection and personal attachment for another person...that's Love. An even greater love is the Love of Christ. HIS love is a gentle continuous flowing river of compassion, deep affection and concern, and it is because of His Love and attachment to us that we can love one another. Robert E. Person's desire is to share this message with an all new musical installment focused on the divine love of God. Multi-award winning inspirational jazz vocalist Robert E. Person has released his fourth indie album LOVE DIVINE. This magnificently orchestrated and divinely written project includes a special remake of the hit "I Really Love You", written by one of Gospel music's favorite songwriters Dr. Norman Hutchins. "I Really Love You" is Robert's second and current radio single that is climbing up the Gospel radio charts. Listen to "I Really Love You" Robert engaged several outstanding songwriters for LOVE DIVINE. Rising Nashville songwriter Glyne Griffith and producer/musician Melvin "Maestro" Lightford contributed the worship ballad "Just Because" in which Robert eloquently provided his signature soothing vocal sound. The first radio single from LOVE DIVINE, “Testify”, was written by Ayesha Daniels and arranged by Robert and extraordinary Jazz pianist and producer Allyn Johnson.
In the United States, Do You Want To Know a Secret was the first top ten song to feature Harrison as a lead singer, reaching number 2 on the Billboard chart in 1964 as a single released by Vee-Jay, VJ 587. The Beatles' version was never released as a single in the UK, where a cover version by Billy J. Kramer with the Dakotas hit number one in the NME chart. Lennon said he based the song on Wishing Well, from Walt Disney's 1937 animated feature film Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs. Indeed, the opening lines of the lyrics are taken from this film song. However, the melody of DYWTKAS appears to owe more to "I Really Love You", a song released by The Stereos in 1961. This record, issued on Cub Records, a subsidiary of MGM Records, reached number 29 on the Billboard Top 40 chart. The lead singer on I Really Love You was Ronnie Collins. This song was covered by the le George Harrison in his 1982 studio album Gone Troppo, so indeed it appears to have been well known to the Beatles. Lennon later said that he gave "Do You Want to Know a Secret" to Harrison to sing because "it only had three notes and he wasn't the best singer in the world". So George did pretty well with these 3 notes..... The song was recorded during a ten-hour session on 11 February 1963 along with nine other songs for Please Please Me. Take 8 was best — being a superimposition take of the harmony vocal and two drum sticks being tapped together (You can hear them from 1:09 to 1:20.), onto take six. Here, we used take 7 and Take 8 to create a stunning true stereo version.
