Suzi Quatro has been rocking out live for 7 decades. Since she was a teenager with her sisters in The Pleasure Seekers in the mid-60's she has been on stage, singing, playing her bass and proving that she rocks hard, no matter what box you may try to put her in. Suzi's new album Freedom is available for purchase and download and it's a rocker from start to finish. The title track is the lead single and she discusses how she and her son wrote that one and how she immediately knew it was a new anthem for her. They bring back that old Detroit raunchy-rock riffing with Suzi's unique voice on songs like Here's Ya Boots, Nobody Held My Hand and Shakedown and she even teams up with fellow Detroiter Alice Cooper on the MC5 classic Kick Out The Jams (and yes, Suzi says the expletive after Kick Out The Jams). Hear not only about how she made this record, one of her best in years, but about her long career, about moving to England in 1971 alone, touring the world, making fun of nerdy interviewers, being a mom and being her unstoppable, determined self. Of course we ask a Happy Days question but are so glad she didn't keep reprising Leather Tuscadero so we could get more of the real Suzi Quatro over the last 50 years.

Teddie Dahlin was born in Norway and graduated from Business School in Gothenburg, Sweden with a degree in International Marketing and Economics. She has worked as a freelance music journalist for several magazines in the UK, most notably Vive le Rock, and she's written 5 published books. In 2012, after a bad experience with a UK publisher, Teddie established New Haven Publishing to put out her book, A Vicious Love Story: Remembering the Real Sid Vicious, which is her account of being the 16-year-old translator for the Sex Pistols during a leg of their 1977 Scandinavian Tour. It was New Haven's first book. A Vicious Love Story takes us through Teddie's unique encounter with Sid Vicious and the Sex Pistols, including a fascinating cast of characters surrounding the band, such as Neon Leon, Eileen Polk, Peter Gravelle, Kenny Gordon, and Howie Pyro. I've read A Vicious Love Story and can tell you I was thoroughly engrossed by Teddie's description of what it was like for her at such a young age to be tossed into the middle of a fairly wild scene with such dynamic punk rockers, especially as she became quite close to Sid Vicious.Since 2012, New Haven Publishing has grown substantially, now representing 200 authors with a catalogue of 250 books that are heavily anchored in the music and entertainment industry. New Haven also has several imprints: Phoenix Press Kids books, Viking Press Comics, Portland Press Novels, and in the United States, New Haven Publishing US. For the record, Teddie and I have known one another for several years as I've had the privilege of interviewing numerous New Haven Publishing authors, including Tim Quinn, Jimmy Ryan, Jon Kremer, and the one and only Suzi Quatro.https://www.newhavenpublishingltd.com/

Suzi's been writing and performing music since she was in her teens and is widely considered to be one of the most influential rock bassists and singers of her generation.Suzi has sold over 55 million records, putting out such hits as 48 Crash, Devil Gate Drive, The Wild One, She's In Love With You, If You Can't Give Me Love, and her duet with Chris Norman, Stumblin' In.Suzi's also well-known for playing Leather Tuscadero on the hit TV Series, Happy Days, as well as for her various other TV appearances.Suzi turned her bestselling autobiography, Unzipped, into her one woman show, which premiered at London's Hippodrome in 2007.A prolific poet and writer, Suzi has published such books of poetry as Through My Eyes, Through My Heart, Through My Words, and Through My Thoughts. Her first novel, The Hurricane, was released in 2017, and she recently published her latest novel, Grave Undertakings.  I've read Grave Undertakings and can tell you it's a fantastic dive into the minds of a college psychology class, and what happens when the small group of students and their professor analyze themselves and one another revealing their own inner lives and sensibilities. This is the rare work of fiction that I believe should be taught in psychology classes everywhere.Aside from her wonderful writing, Suzi continues to tour and release new albums.

Today's guest was bound to happen. Meet Tex Mosely from Neverland Ranch Davidians. Tex and his band were suggested to me a couple of years ago by my friend Ian. I reached out and we tried to get everything to mesh but just couldn't make it work. A few years later, here we are.  Tex talks about growing up in Philly and having music all around him. His uncle was a professional bass player. Tex started playing guitar and even took lessons from jazz legend, Pat Martino! He began his life in music in Philly, but he eventually found his way to LA. He joined up with The Slaves and found favor with Concrete Blonde, one of my favorite bands. But after a while, rock and roll and substance abuse took its toll on him. But he found help, love, and safety back with his family in Philly.  After his recovery, Tex moved back to LA and joined a band called Neighborhood Bullys. They had such a good sound that they ended up being Suzi Quatro's band for her album In The Spotlight. But there's one odd thing about that recording and I'll let Tex tell that story. Tex's latest band is Neverland Ranch Davidians. It started off as a lo-fi project and wound up being his singing debut. He tells how he met the other band members, Max Hagen and Will Bentley and how he came up with the band name. Their sophomore release is out soon and it's an amalgamation of all Tex's influences (except maybe Pat Martino). It's called Shout It On The Mountain and that title tells it all. It's a rock album. That's it. Tex is a blast to talk with and shares great stories from his early days through the making of the new album. Pre-order it on Heavy Medication Records, buy the debut, and follow Neverland Ranch Davidians on the socials. You can't miss them. Tread Perilously continues a witchy October with The Paul Lynde Halloween Special. When neighborhood kids harass Paul Lynde about his plans to celebrate Halloween, he flees to the home of his housekeeper's sister. But he soon learns both are witches with remarkable resemblances to Witchiepoo and The Wicked Witch of the West. As it turns out, they want him to be a spokesman for witches. In return, he'll get three wishes granted and a private concert from KISS. The latter aspect is not negotiable. What wishes will Paul get granted? Will KISS let Peter sing "Beth"? And will guest stars Billy Barty, Florence Henderson, and Betty White make a mark on the proceedings? Erik and Justin try to deal with a variety special making a stab at an ongoing narrative. They also conjure the Osmonds back into existence. The previous on-screen persona of Betty White is explored. Bruce Vilanch returns as Erik reads out a very long list of writers. The Pinky Tuscadero phenomenon gets explained ... including the unlikely connection to Suzi Quatro. The pair take a closer look at KISS and give "Beth" a review. Erik decries the industry for not giving Margaret Hamilton a true starring role and the long delayed Alien: Romulus chat finally occurs.

The Smokie Legend: How Chris Norman Became Rock Royalty

Ever wondered why Chris Norman left Smokie? What he's doing now or if the band wrote their own songs? Tune in for all of these answers and more. As you know, Chris is a British singer-songwriter renowned for his iconic voice and role as the lead vocalist of the band Smokie. Born in 1950, Chris was exposed to music from an early age, influenced by the rise of rock ‘n' roll in the 50s and early 60s. Inspired by legends like Elvis Presley, Little Richard, and The Beatles, he developed a passion for music that would shape his career. In the late '60s, Chris teamed up with school friends Alan Silson, Terry Uttley, and Ron Kelly to form a band initially known as The Yen and later Kindness. Their musical journey took a turn when they became Smokie in the early 70s, after being discovered by producers Mike Chapman and Nicky Chinn. Smokie quickly rose to international fame with their distinctive blend of soft rock and pop. Their first major hit was "If You Think You Know How to Love Me" in 75, followed by chart-topping tracks like "Living Next Door to Alice," "Lay Back in the Arms of Someone," and "Oh Carol." Norman's raspy, emotive voice became the hallmark of Smokie's sound. With their catchy melodies and accessible rock style, Smokie became one of the most successful British bands of the 70s. The band's music was characterised by its heartfelt lyrics and warm harmonies with Chris' vocals often drawing comparisons to Rod Stewart. In 1982 Chris Norman decided to leave the band to pursue a solo career. While his departure marked the end of an era for Smokie, he quickly found his footing as a solo artist. He initially gained fame outside the UK, particularly in Germany, where he found a loyal fan base. His first major solo success came in 78 when he recorded the hit "Stumblin' In," a duet with Suzi Quatro. It was his 1986 single "Midnight Lady" that truly cemented his solo career. Hugely popular in Europe, he continued to release successful albums throughout the 80s and 90s. His solo work took on a more polished pop-rock sound, with hints of folk and country influences, which appealed to a broad audience. Tracks like "Some Hearts Are Diamonds" and "Broken Heroes" became fan favoruites. Chris' solo career continued to flourish into the 2000s, with regular album releases and extensive touring. Despite his departure from Smokie, he maintained a good relationship with his former bandmates and occasionally reunited with them for special performances. While Smokie continued with new vocalists, Chris Norman remained the voice most associated with the band's biggest hits. In 1995, Norman was honored with an award for “International Video Star of the Year” by CMT Europe. Over the years, he has experimented with different styles, blending rock, pop, folk, and country in his solo work, showcasing his versatility as an artist. Today Chris continues to tour extensively across Europe and other regions, performing both Smokie classics and his solo hits. His live performances draw large audiences, captivated by his timeless voice and charismatic stage presence. Chris Norman's career has spanned over five decades and as he continues to perform and record new music, he delights fans both old and new. From his time as the lead singer of Smokie to his successful solo career, Chris Norman remains a beloved figure in the global music scene, with a legacy that continues to grow.
