Our goal is for listeners to see it our way, and learn about journeys through life with low vision and blindness. This podcast hopes to raise awareness, and help listeners understand how we go about our daily lives, during and after vision loss. FBC Adult Comprehensive students Kelly, Athena, Jim sit down with Phil Pangrazio, former CEO at Ability360. This episode focuses on navigating the healthcare landscape. Students discuss their personal experiences using technology and apps to support managing healthcare information, the importance of self-advocacy, communication, mindset and being solutions focused.
Matthew chats with FBC staff Cody Alvarez, Manager of Youth and Family Services, and Kellie Brown, Itinerant Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments about a new high school program at FBC called Digital Citizenship. Kellie asks Digital Citizenship participants to share why it is critical to be a good Digital Citizen and tips on digital safety.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. NDEAM is a national campaign that raises awareness about disability employment issues and celebrates the many and varied contributions of America's workers with disabilities. This month the See it Our Way Podcast will feature two episodes featuring FBC’s Employment Services Coordinator, Brooke Beatty and Creative Services Manager, Chloe Ranshaw. This episode highlights some resources and best practices for job seekers.
Matthew chats with College Prep Program Coordinator and FBC’s own Spencer Churchill, COMS, cTVI about the importance and focuses of FBC’s College Prep summer transition program. Spencer also shares the various pathways students take with the support of Vocational Rehabilitation. In this episode we are also introduced to College Prep participants Jordana, incoming Yavapai College freshman who plans to study Education, and Drew, incoming ASU freshman who plans to study Business. Jordana and Drew share their experience in the program and reflect on their proudest moments in high school.
Matthew meets with FBC’s Teen to Work summer program students Divinne, Lizbeth, Samantha and Program Coordinator, Shaylyn. The students share experiences and stories of growth in the 6 week program. Shaylyn speaks about how the program shifted to an online model because of COVID.
This episode has two parts, first, student James shares his experience traveling to Indiana to visit his family for the first time since losing his vision, and also during COVID times. Next we hear from student Debbie, the first Adult Comprehensive student to graduate virtually. Debbie, her cohort of students and instructors reflect on Debbie’s transformation throughout the program and her future endeavors.
This summer FBC had an opportunity to work with our Elementary, Middle and High School SHARP program on a virtual platform. We used a Project Based Learning approach to create newsletters, podcasts and documentaries. We are proud to share this podcast put together by middle school students Zoe and Amairani with the support of their teacher Kelly Wilson. The podcast group welcomes new FBC student Norma as Debbie graduates from the comprehensive program. In addition to adjusting to low vision, Norma is working on perfecting her English language while in program.
