Hi Parents! Preparing your teen for college goes far beyond academics, especially if they struggle with anxiety, executive functioning, or are neurodivergent. In this episode, I'm joined by Dr. Tara Williams, executive functioning coach and professor, to talk about how parents can support their teens in building the real-life skills they need to succeed in college and beyond. From time management and organization to emotional regulation and independence, we unpack what true college readiness actually looks like. We also dive into how to help your teen develop self-advocacy skills, so they can communicate their needs, ask for help, and navigate challenges with confidence. If you've ever felt stuck between wanting to support your teen and not wanting to do everything for them, this conversation will help you find that balance. Dr. Tara shares practical, realistic ways to start building these skills at home, especially for anxious or neurodivergent teens who may need more guidance and support. Whether your teen is a few years away from college or already starting to think about the transition, this episode will give you tools to help them become more independent, confident and prepared for what's next, without adding more pressure or overwhelm.

This week on Sustainability Now!, your host, Justin Mog, talks sustainable youth development with Lynn Rippy, Founder, President & CEO of Blueprint502 - Formerly YouthBuild Louisville (https://blueprint502.org). Lynn has worked for 50 years in youth development, helping open the Louisville Office of Youth Development prior to her work with YouthBuild. We discuss some of the many initiatives and programs that Blueprint502 has underway, including:
 1. The Smoketown Community Center - opened June 2025, as a hub for summer learning, connection, and opportunity, with offices and event areas available for rent. - Hosts after-school Summer Program and TECH-nique's TECH BOSS Summer Program. - Home to Smoketown Next Generation program, an ongoing after-school initiative held M-Th 4-7pm, focused on youth development, safety, and violence prevention. - Operates a Kid's Café program M-F 3:30-5pm, providing meals to youth ages 11 to 17. 2. Milestones Achieved - Through SummerWorks in 2025, 2,358 young people registered for services, with 1,271 receiving direct support and 212 placed into sponsored jobs. The SummerWorks platform continues to expand, now connecting 262 private employers with more than 4,700 job opportunities. - YouthBuild Louisville celebrated 28 graduates who completed the program and moved forward with stronger skills and clearer career pathways. - Urban Conservation Corps program supported 15 members through successful program completion, while workforce-focused training continued to grow: 30 participants earned certifications through the Brownfields Job Training program, 17 individuals became Certified Apartment Maintenance Technicians, and 139 people received industry-recognized certifications through our HazMat training. 3. Crisis to Stability: The Rapid Growth of a Housing Program - Housing Now Program provides safe, supportive, and empowering environments for young adults who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Three core components—Transitional Housing, Rapid Rehousing, and Supportive Services. Impact has scaled significantly: 124 served in 2024; 221 in 2025; and on track to serve over 250 more families this year. How You Can Help: a. Become a "Home Starter" Sponsor: Companies and organizations can sponsor "Move-In Kits" for Rapid Rehousing participants. This provides essential household items, furniture, and kitchen supplies to help a young adult turn a new apartment into a true home. b. Mentorship & Professional Coaching: lead workshops on financial literacy, resume building, or mock interviews to help our residents achieve employment stability. c. Direct Financial Support: Directly toward rental deposits, short-term financial assistance, and individualized case management that prevents a crisis from becoming a setback. d. Property Partnerships: Local property managers/landlords partnering with Rapid Rehousing program 4. Strengthening Neighborhoods: Work at Alberta O. Jones Park; annual Back-to-School Backpack Drive and entrepreneurship career fair at Meyzeek; 3 on 3 basketball tournament at Shelby Park. As we continue to look ahead to Summer Programs, we are introducing you to a new friend of Regent, Dr. Warren Kinghorn, psychiatrist and theologian at Duke University. In this sensitive and insightful conversation, Warren reflects on his many years practising medicine as a Christian psychiatrist. He considers the intersection of psychiatry, theology, and human experience, emphasizing the importance of understanding people as whole persons on a journey rather than machines or clusters of symptoms.  He points us to the reality of human interdependence as a gift, and our common humanity as wayfarers, persons on a journey, seeking to discern what we need in the particularities of our lives in community with others. Warren will be joining us at Regent from July 6-10 to teach “Christian Faith and Mental Healthcare.” We hope to see you here!(TW) Warren discusses difficult issues, such as suicidality and euthanasia, as well as other mental health challenges.Warren's BioDr. Warren Kinghorn is Professor of Psychiatry at Duke University School of Medicine, Esther Colliflower Professor of the Practice of Pastoral and Moral Theology, and co-director of the Theology, Medicine, and Culture Initiative at Duke Divinity School, and a staff psychiatrist at the Durham VA Medical Center. He is the author of Wayfaring: A Christian Approach to Mental Health Care (Eerdmans, 2024) and co-author with Abraham Nussbaum of Prescribing Together: A Relational Guide to Psychopharmacology (American Psychiatric Association Publishing, 2021). She shares her reflections on the good life and how biblical principles from the gospel can transform our understanding of flourishing here and now. She shares her lived experience and perspectives on the depth and breadth of salvation, love, shalom, and spiritual formation. Lisa offers reflections on the particular pitfalls of "false gospels," the expansiveness of agape love, and the delusions of the false self. Lisa shares her insights and takeaways from the Scriptures, the writings of Dallas Willard, and other key theologians and spiritual writers in ways that have touched and formed her own life.Lisa's BioElizabeth (Lisa) Sung, PhD, is a systematic theologian and spiritual director. She served as Visiting Associate Professor of Theology at Regent College from 2022 to 2025, and continues to teach courses for Regent as a Faculty Teaching Fellow. Artist talks expose participants to what life is like as a professional ballet dancer. The location? You'll want to hear where this program takes place -- it's an environment that enhances creativity in a way most studios can't match! The Young Dancer Intensive is designed for younger students, balancing quality training with fun activities outside the studio. What sets it apart? It's one of the only programs like it that offers housing where parents and kids can stay together, providing comfort and support for younger dancers taking their first step into intensive training.  Learn more about these ballet summer intensives on their website: https://coloradoballet.org/Academy-Summer-Programs Links: Read Ballet School Summer & Year-Round Reviews  https://reviews.ballethelpdesk.com/ Buy Corrections Journals Support Ballet Help Desk Instagram: @BalletHelpDesk Facebook: BalletHelpDesk TikTok:  Music from #Uppbeat: https://uppbeat.io/t/ian-aisling/new-future License code: MGAW5PAHYEYDQZCI Takeaways: The Choreographic Workshop lets students experience what it's like to be a professional ballet dancer. The programs focus on building stamina, artistry, and technical skills. Students are encouraged to ask questions about their future careers. They discuss the current situation in Lebanon and the exciting summer plans at the church, focusing on how people are finding hope in Christ amidst ongoing challenges.Key Discussion Points:Current Situation in Lebanon: Despite a tough season marked by conflict and despair since September 2024, a ceasefire has led to a somewhat improved situation with a decline in shelling and airstrikes. Local elections are taking place, signaling a sense of change and hope on the horizon, though true hope is emphasized to be found only in Christ.Summer Plans at Hope Evangelical Church:Couples Conference: This conference will focus on strengthening family and marriage relationships for both married and engaged couples. The importance of this event is highlighted by the increasing social acceptance of divorce and the church's role in recentering families on the Gospel. Bashir shares a testimony of the church's ministry successfully helping a couple reconcile and stop divorce proceedings.Children's Camps:Sunday School Kids Camp: A three-day camp for 80-100 (or more) Sunday school children, featuring Bible lessons, fun activities like inflatables and songs, and an outing day.HOPE Educational Program Camps: Separate camps are planned for students in the morning and afternoon programs of the HOPE Educational Program.Children at Risk Program Camp: Another camp will be held for children in the Children at Risk program. The hosts emphasize the significant impact these camps have on children's lives, providing a safe and fun environment to learn about the Gospel and find hope amidst difficult circumstances. Elio shares a personal testimony of accepting Christ and meeting his wife at a summer camp when he was 16 years old.Teenagers Conference: A conference specifically for teenagers is being prepared, with many teens saving money to attend. Tuesday was the start of the new fiscal year and schools across the country were expecting to receive funding already allocated by Congress, to the tune of nearly $7 billion for summer programs, after school programs and teacher training. Instead, on Monday, the Education Department sent an email to state education agencies notifying them that the money would not be coming. Greg and Holly explore what this could mean for kids in Utah with Superintendent of the Granite School District, Ben Horsley.

This blogcast explores “Everything Is Yours" written and read by Brian Rhude. In this blog post, reflects on the Suscipe prayer that reminds us that all that we possess is a gift from God and we have the ability to return it so he can do with it as he wills. Among the many great things that St. Ignatius gave the Church including the Society itself, which has produced many great Saints, and the Spiritual Exercises, Ignatius also gave us a prayer called the Suscipe. As short and simple of a prayer as the Suscipe is, it is equally as powerful. Essential to Ignatius' spirituality is the fact that all human beings are creatures created by God and are in need of his great mercy and love and that everything we experience in our lives is a gift from God. The Suscipe is, in my estimation, the perfect product of this essential factor of Ignatius' spirituality. Ignatius' prayer goes like this: Take, Lord, and receive all my liberty, my memory, my understanding, and my entire will, All I have and call my own.You have given all to me.To you, Lord, I return it.Everything is yours; do with it what you will.Give me only your love and your grace, that is enough for me.As creatures, everything that we are and everything that we have is from God, our creator. Our liberty, memory, understanding, will, possessions, gifts, and talents — every good thing in our lives is a gift from God. The problem is that we, as humans, tend to think that we have done all the good things in our lives. While we certainly have to cooperate with God's grace, all things are still reliant on his grace. Everything in this world will eventually pass away. Our good looks, quick wit, great intellect, ability to play an instrument, cook great food, or hit a golf ball 350 yards will pass away at some point in our lives. What do we do when we can no longer rely on our physical or mental ability? We can certainly shrivel up into a proverbial ball and pout that our life is over. But life in Christ leads us another direction, the direction of the Suscipe. This direction points us to grace and the necessity of grace in our lives. Even when all the other good things in our lives are gone, God's grace will remain. God's grace will sustain us when nothing else can and will be there when everything else fades away. Let's have the courage to rely solely on God's grace which is all that we need. Author:Brian Rhude is the Project Coordinator for the Catholic Apostolate Center where he works in developing Center programming, assists in updating and creating new resources on the Center's website, collaborates on the development of social media content, and provides other services and collaborates including participation at and facilitation of various events and conferences.
