Topics are spicy with the soap opera at Deel, where legal drama's juicier than a reality TV reunion. Plus, they geek out over Indeed's search boxes making a comeback and some fancy new premium service—because job hunting needed more flair. Switching gears, they clown on Indeed's latest job-seeker gadgets, throw shade at LinkedIn's “innovations,” and size up Adzuna's AI job search bot like it's a contender in a tech cage match. We go beyond resume tweaks and LinkedIn updates to explore the emotional toll of job hunting, the psychology of rejection, and the surprising ways job seekers are breaking through—often by going around the front door entirely. Melissa also shares how some of her clients landed roles at major firms, even in one of the toughest markets we've seen.We also dig into the myths that might be holding you back—like why a flawless resume can actually hurt your chances, or how a mindful pause helped Melissa shift her own career path. If you've been feeling stuck, discouraged, or just unsure of what to do next, this episode offers a fresh perspective—and practical tools—to help you finally move forward. Drawing on a metaphor between almost walking into a wasp swarm, and the unpredictable economic climate, Camille encourages her listeners not to panic but be aware of market shifts. She emphasizes the importance of being open to and adapting to change by finding alternative paths. Even though the February jobs report shows some increase in unemployment and slight decrease in job growth, these shifts are not cause for alarm and should be used as opportunities to prepare. The episode explores the evolving landscape of remote and hybrid work. While hybrid models are gaining strength, fully remote work is becoming a little more challenging to find. However, with the demand for skilled remote workers persisting, companies are continuing to hire workers who are adaptable to remote setups. Camille advises being strategic in job searching and the use of specialized job boards. Expanding their networking efforts will help to stay competitive in this increasingly complex market. Finally, Camille offers actionable steps to help prepare for potential changes, such as filling experience gaps, embracing new technologies like AI, and exploring contract, freelance, or part-time work. Remember, Over the last 14 years, I have done everything I can to help as many hashtag#jobseekers as possible via Power Point presentations, documents , speaking engagements and now LinkedIn presentations that LinkedIn promotes for me. I also, whenever possible, scroll down my feed and every time I see a person that is hashtag#opentowork, I drop an invite to my next hashtag#LinkedInLive event or if I am not having one my hashtag#YouTube page that has hundreds of videos and audio events. I know that I have helped thousands of people in some way to get out of the canyon called hashtag#Unemployment and back into the job world. I could've charged a lot of money to a lot of people over the years because my stuff works and it works fast if you are someone that goes and attacks challenges. I don't charge people a lot of money because they need their money to eat and pay their rent and provide for their family when they are unemployed because they don't know when that nightmare will end. That is why I don't make it a giant moneymaking endeavor. I do this from the heart because I never forget how bad it felt to be unemployed and how awful every day was until I knew what my next job was. That said, I cannot believe when someone is offered free help from someone who has been doing it for as long as I have that they would ignore my invite and not come to the event. All I will say is here is an invite to my next event and if you are a hashtag#jobseeker you should come because something I say will help you to get in next great opportunity. Send us a textIn this episode of Teachers in Transition, Vanessa Jackson explores the themes of creativity, resilience, and unconventional problem-solving using cars as a metaphor for teamwork and thinking outside the box.Vanessa also discusses the reality of career success, highlighting that it's rarely a straight path. She emphasizes the importance of adapting to change, recognizing one's value, and making small but impactful adjustments. Drawing from her recent car-buying experience, she relates how many job seekers - especially career changers - struggle with being overlooked because employers focus on surface-level qualities instead of long-term potential. She shares a few clever life hacks—like using a tension rod to keep grocery bags upright and a binder clip to keep phone chargers in place—illustrating how small, strategic changes can have a big impact. Finally, she reviews in detail the Build Phase of career transition, guiding educators through essential steps like crafting a resume, optimizing LinkedIn, building a network, and organizing a job search. Buckle up, job nerds—Chad Sowash and Joel Cheesman are back with J.T. O'Donnell, serving up the week's employment chaos with a side of snark. Joann's 800 fabric havens are kaput after 80 years—no buyer, 19,000 pink slips. Buy or Sell: Mercor's 21-year-old Thiel babies nabbed $100M, hit a $2B valuation ... Joel's screaming "SELL" ‘cause remote work's deader than disco. Perfect's $23M AI dream promises hires while you nap; J.T.'s all "BUY" for their 44-person squad surfing the consolidation wave. Loxo's $115M talent tech flex? Joel's like, "SELL—big hype, but the founder's greener than a lime Slurpee." Indeed yanked search fields from its homepage, forcing logins—Alex Chukovski's jazzed, but Chad's cackling, “Monster 2.0, meet your doom!” And Musk's AI grading federal job essays? J.T.'s rolling her eyes—unions are raging, and it's sketchier than a back-alley job board. Laugh, cry, and listen up! When the decision is right, you can relax and enjoy the ride. When the decision is wrong, you can look forward to losing 2 times base salary plus the hidden but significant costs of morale problems, customer chagrin, lower productivity, and missed opportunities. Today, we’re going to discuss the advantages of psychological or executive assessment for key people when it is added to traditional hiring methods and other best practices. Asking for Good: Fundraisers help you launch your Nonprofit Career
Professor David Rhode, author of Passion Isn't Enough: a practical guide for nonprofit leaders, uses the foundation for nonprofit success outlined in his book to advise job seekers. David has coached hundreds of nonprofit CEOs to grow their organizational capacity and scale. He knows that finding the right people and putting them in the right positions is essential. HIs insights will deepen your understanding of the sector overall and help job seekers artfully navigate the interview process. Listen in as we discuss: Key distinctions between larger and smaller nonprofits. Job seekers should be aware of the advantages and pitfalls to both. No matter the organization's size, job seekers want to show hiring managers that they are passionate, able to problem solve, reliable and can provide strong references. Nonprofit hiring managers may not be seasoned in hiring. Job seekers can use the interview process to clarify the role including having a clear sense of what success looks like and how their performance will be evaluated. Future fundraisers: David reminds us that many of us are already fundraising be it a bake sale or running a 5k for a cause. Leverage non-professional fundraising experience to showcase and hone your skills. Looking ahead, the nonprofit sector will need those with skills in social media and AI. Most nonprofit careers are not easily mapped from the outset, get started on the journey and build from there. About the Guest: David Rhode founded Dot Dot Org where he mentors nonprofit CEOs and helps nonprofit organizations grow their capacity and impact. David is a nonprofit founder; he scaled and ran the global organization for almost 15 years. David's career began in the for profit sector at blue chip companies like Procter and Gamble, H.J. Heinz and others. David is the author of "Passion Isn't Enough: A Practical Guide for Nonprofit Leaders". He is a Wharton MBA and currently teaches non profit branding and nonprofit consulting at the University of Pennsylvania.
