A weekly conversation between brothers about stuff. Should be good. Eventually.
This week’s topics include:-Snowboarding-Physical Education-Taxes-The way McDonald’s pays-Jake’s vacation plans-Selling stuff on Facebook
Jake and Larry start by discussing TV, like Justified and Lego Masters. This digresses somehow into the Lockpicking Lawyer on Youtube and then those door to door magazine sales people. Why not just start a cult?Larry goes off for a while on his job search woes and how silly corporate America is.Jake tries a new meal delivery service. Larry went to an Olive Garden and suddenly his privilege is on full display.
Jake starts the podcast by trying to trigger Larry, but Larry successfully pretty much almost doesn’t take the bait.Jake had to report to jury duty and has some stories to tell.He also gives us a quick update on some school stuff here on America’s Number 1 Teaching Podcast.Larry has a lot of really boring and probing questions about Jake’s productivity setup. Jake pretty much just does things that sort of work for him and doesn’t worry about it, which is less than helpful for Larry, though maybe he should not be such a dweeb about “getting things done.”We chat about TV’s The Good Place, which ended and we pretty much spoil it so if you’re sensitive to that kind of thing I hope you read the show notes because we full on spoil it. Larry thinks the show’s cosmology ended up being surprisingly bold at the end.
We’re back. Again.Jake is trying a meal delivery service and has thoughts.Jake also dives into the difficulties of getting peers to help you out.Larry has a story about how his neighbor threatened to kill (or at least seriously maim) him and his dog. Larry really hopes this dude’s truck breaks. Forever.Jake got summoned for Jury Duty. The Kansas City Chiefs are in the Super Bowl and it’s super nice.Larry has thoughts about Miss Americana. Jake wants to talk about the unrivaled joy that is The Fast and The Furious franchise. Finally we delve a bit into the Tom Clancy universe.

We keep talking about Disney movies for some reason.Jake's homework for Larry from last week was to watch Koyaanisqatsi, which is basically B-Roll set to music. Larry is convinced that Hans Zimmer was HEAVILY influenced by the score. It's a weird nerdy movie, but it looks great!A discussion of creativity ensues. I think Jake is skeptical of Larry's theory that creativity can be for anybody.Larry has a lot (too much) to say about Good Reads and the stupid reviews they have about a dinosaur book. He rants for a while about group think. Sorry for beating a dead horse.Podcasting is discussed. Larry is going to try to listen more to the Giant Bomb universe in order to test his theory about how podcasts get good once you get to know somebody. Everybody should listen to 5 episodes of Roderick on the Line just to understand life.
We still do this! Sometimes!Larry has an idea for a series of self help books.Jake saw a bad play and Larry’s Equus joke falls flat.Jake makes food and Larry has some unsolicited (but good!) advice about cooking.Larry has some questions about cooking at home vs. eating out.OK, Boomers, right?Jake saw Jimmy Eat World in Concert. Larry wants to read a book for once.
This week Jake takes naps and discusses his new car. Larry asks a question about grocery shopping because we're basically an episode of Seinfeld I guess. Larry and Jake agree about how much QDOBA sucks and don't even get Larry started on Moe's (even though to be honest Chipotle's quality has decreased over the years and it's super expensive).Larry's been swimming in his own thoughts about news consumption lately and has to ask somebody about it so he asks Jake. What even is the point and what should somebody do about the constant outrage out there? Who knows?Jake and Larry agree to watch some TV and talk about it next time.
It's Jake's turn this week to talk about car-buying woes.We then talk about Jake's attempt at putting things on the internet and improving himself in the process. Then settle in because Larry tells a long and tortured story about becoming a part of a neighborhood (or a neighboring neighborhood) because you're out walking your dog. It gets complicated quick. We then switch gears and talk about the show Instant Hotel on Netflix.Next week we'll talk about Chernobyl, which you should absolutely watch.
We’re back and maybe going to be more consistent now. Possibly? We start off on America’s Number 1 Teaching Podcast (TM) with a discussion of Jake’s summer and his work trip to Dallas. Mullets are discussed. This episode was almost titled “You’re Hurting Those Who Believe in Dumbledore.” We talk about our vacations, because this is a podcast where two brothers have a chat and we want to know. I don’t care if you’re bored.Homework for next time is to watch Instant Hotel on Netflix. We’re also going to talk about Larry’s dog adventures (TM).

It does not go well, though we do find out that Jake’s style icon is Jim from “The Office.”Next week Jake wants Larry to think about a cool vacation and Larry wants Jake to watch the film “Warrior.”
Sometimes people steal things. We talk about that.Larry goes on a REALLY LONG rant about how crappy it is to buy a car and change your cell phone plan and just generally get along anymore in this world of get rich quick and charge a lot for not that much.We talk about last week’s homework. Jake enneagram is a Type 2. We have a chat about how relevant enneagrams are. Listen to the audiobook Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman. - JakeTake an enneagram test. - LarryGhost of You by My Chemical RomanceHelena by My Chemical Romance - Super cringy, but good if your 16 in the early 2000s.Enneagram testEnneagram descriptions

The kids are doing some weird stuff these days.We transition extremely gracefully to a discussion of facial hair and then into what our family would like for Christmas. Great radio is made.Larry asks Jake if he has any big dreams or plans for the next few years. From there we talk about cruises and the relative merits of vacations. People's hipster attitudes about everything are talked about. We talk about last weeks homework and then Jake wants Larry to play a PC game with him (sigh) and Larry wants Jake to entertain a few episodes of "The Good Place" since he watches a lot of similar shows.
This week we start by talking about Red Dead Redemption 2. It snowed by Jake so we briefly touch on that. Larry quit his job. Jake says Larry can “Cardi B it.” We then talk about what it must be like for kids these days to live in a world of constant distraction and a need for a constant stream of dopamine via electronic means. From there America’s Number 1 Teaching Podcast delves into some teacher talk. Jake has a new grading scale and he saw some really bad improv. Then we revisit our argument from the last show about the iPhone vs Android divide. Nothing is accomplished. Larry is kind of a dick about it. Jake gets wound up.Homework is assigned. Jake has to get a budget and Larry has to edit and print a picture.
Jake is super busy and doesn’t have time to play CODBO3. Larry thinks “battle royal” is a stupid reinvention of the term “death match” and has decided to be snotty about it. Whatever. Jake had parent teacher conferences. A boring discussion of switching phone providers sparks Larry to ask some questions about why Jake hasn’t switched to the iPhone. Larry asks these questions in that way that’s apparently prejudicial because Jake has the same response that Larry’s wife does every time he asks why one might do it a certain way. Whatever. At about 9 minutes in Larry edited out a really BORING conversation about politics that led into a discussion of the word sanguine. Super exciting stuff this week.Larry tries to get Jake to explain his advice to high school students in an effort to better figure out his own life. But kids in high school are dumb.Jake then explains the app Tik ToK to Larry and Larry just doesn’t get it. It's mostly not as interesting as he thought it might be, but the employee did mumble about the adult stuff in the back. The movie "Annihilation" is discussed, "The Post" is mentioned and Jake recommends the new Mr. Rogers doc. This leads to a brief discussion about how cynical we've all become that we don't believe that good people even exist anymore. Jake talks about scholars bowl. He's actually read part of a book. Then, as he describes his in-laws land, Larry implores and demands that Jake go hunting with his father-in-law, or at least shoot a bow.
