This week we discuss the giant cargo ship that took out the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Maryland. Something doesn't seem kosherand we needed to work through some theorys. Squatters are taking over LeBrons neighborhood. P. Diddy got raided by the Feds. Cern came up as part of the April 8th eclipse, just to add to the weirdness. Bingo cards were updaed, cajoined twins got married, and some how we got on the topic of preegaculation. Yep, this is Whiskey Hell. The noise keeps coming this week with one of our good homies, all-around chiller and gifted producer, Devault. He's currently been releasing some of his most inspired music to date, working with the likes of Zhu, DJ Snake, and RL Grime to boot. We break the ice with Devault by recounting his world-changing entry into the scene with Holy Ship!, how his brother's controller and the game DJ Hero created his love for electronic music, the process of convincing his parents that music was his career calling, the influence of DJ AM, going back to his musical roots to create his best music yet, the art of turning a live show into a transformative theatrical experience, getting some sauce from guys like Zhu & Snake, plus, how he played college lacrosse at Arizona State. We'd love to hear your stories and thoughts on purity culture so as always feel free to reach out to us @theholyship.podcast or email us at theholyship.podcast@gmail.com!

Welcome to our introduction episode of Holy Ship! We are so excited you're joining us. We are by no means experts in relationships, but something we wished we had growing up was the space in which to have meaningful, Christ-centered discussions surrounding various topics on maintaining relationships. We will be covering all the topics surrounding relationships, not shying away from the awkward and uncomfortable topics. This is our way of opening a dialogue that many Christians, especially within church, tend to avoid. Because we are women discussions will be oriented for a female audience, but we believe many principals discussed apply to all.Make sure to follow us @theholyship.podcast and if you have any questions or concerns you can email us at theholyship.podcast@gmail.com.

Together with American Songwriter, we had the pleasure of interviewing Flamingosis over Zoom video! Electronic and future funk producer Flamingosis unveils a feel-good animated video for his latest single ‘Daymaker’. 'Daymaker’ will be part of a wider album project coming later this year. Animated by Nick Parente, ‘Daymaker’ leads with a vocal sample from Flamingosis’ father, who was a world-renowned professional frisbee player back in the 1970s-1980s. His father and uncle coined the term "Flamingosis" as a frisbee move, hence the moniker and the creative vision behind the animated video. Set in the midst of summer, ‘Daymaker’ takes the viewer on a unique visual journey through the city - from the viewpoint of the frisbee - to experience the best aspects of a perfect summer day. Following a retro 70s style-vibe, ‘Daymaker’ is filled with both charming and heartwarming moments that will immediately capture those well-known feelings of Summertime nostalgia. Flamingosis mentions his single Daymaker is, “Probably one of my favorite tracks that I have ever made. I hope it makes someone’s day better after listening to it. The video is a reflection of everything in my life that has inspired the Flamingosis project. Frisbee, flamingos, the shore, funk and soul music, cartoons/anime and living life. I wanted all of that incorporated into a music video. Big thank you to Nick Parente and his whole team of animators for their hard work in bringing the vision to life.” ‘Daymaker’ marks the second release from Flamingosis this year following his August single ‘Wild Summer.’ Also paying homage to his family heritage, the music video for ‘Wild Summer’ features exclusive footage of his father and uncle from their pro-frisbee days. ‘Wild Summer’ has become a fan-favorite and in heavy rotation via Spotify, racking in hundreds of thousands of streams to date. Flamingosis' (real name Aaron Velasquez) progressive future-funk style of electronic music has amassed him nearly 100 million lifetime streams across platforms, with over 100K followers across social media channels. He has performed and collaborated with many notable artists in the electronic space such as Big Gigantic, GRiZ, Gramatik, Madeon, Emancipator, Tokimonsta, Matoma, Yung Bae, Elliot Lipp and Pure Colors, and appeared on major festival lineups including Austin City Limits, Electric Forest, Okeechobee, Holy Ship!, Shambhala and more. Closing out the year with his latest track ‘Daymaker’, Flamingosis has solidified himself as an exciting artist to watch in 2021.We want to hear from you! “You know the phrase, ‘this is a sinking ship’? Well, Els Visser knows what it’s like first hand to be in a sinking ship ... yes we’re serious. The positivity, perseverance, and bravery that Els showed is the energy that we all need in the year of 2020 that sometimes feels like a sinking ship. We were absolutely floored to hear the heroic story of survival when a hole was torn in the bottom of her boat ... in the middle of the night ... in the middle of a storm ... in the middle of an ocean. Equally impressive is her ability to emotionally heal from the traumatic experience after the physical wounds had healed and earn her degree to become a doctor. Not long afterwards, she decided to put her MD on pause to pursue the top level of professional triathlon. What did we learn from our chat about Els Visser? Don’t put her in a box!" Eddy Sato has known he needed to be part of the show since his mother took him to see KISS in 1979. Since learning the ropes as a member of the University of Southern California's Program Board, Eddy has worked in concert production from multiple angles to fully develop a "win-win" approach to production. He has served as a Touring Carpenter for Stevie Nicks and David Bowie and has worked as a touring Production Manager for M.I.A, Japanese mega-act B'z and the inaugural Oddball Comedy Festival tour. He has worked on the Venue side as the Crew Chief at the Wiltern Theater and as the Director of Production for the Los Angeles Forum. He has also worked as a Production Rep, Stage Manager and Site Supervisor for LiveNation at multiple events across Southern California, Las Vegas and Hawaii. His freelance history includes positions for Goldenvoice, HARD events & Holy Ship, SAS Productions, and NComppass International. Currently, he works as the Director of Production for Redrock Entertainment Services, a LiveNation Global Projects company. This week, Eden tells a story that’s quite similar to that of Cinderella, except instead of a shoe, it’s a pair of jeans and the owner goes to jail instead of becoming a princess. All right, it’s nothing like Cinderella. Later, Nicole tells the story of a ship whose owner might to want you to drink, but definitely wants you to find true love! These are the stories of Laura Salmon and The Delta Queen.

Subset on The DJ Sessions presented by Covert Bat Productions 5/17/20 About Subset - You can never be completely sure what you're in for when you see Subset perform - even he isn't too certain what to expect. Honing his craft over the past six years in the demanding and eclectic New York City scene, Subset has soaked up the variety of music NYC has to offer and developed his unique sound by finding ways to weave all of these loose threads together. From his weekly bass music party at Webster Hall (BASSment Saturdays) to his renegade sets at festivals around the country to massive sets at Holy Ship!, Camp Bisco, and Burning Man, Subset knows just what to play to set the perfect tone, no matter the setting. Subset has made his name and built a following in an unconventional manner. The usual formula for DJs is to lock themselves away in their studios and become antisocial while their hone their craft. Subset decided to flip the status quo and go hyper-social instead. He has spent the last six years building communities and developing close, personal relationships with those who enjoy his music. BASSment Saturdays, the legendary bass music weekly Subset hosts and curates at Webster Hall, has become a home and a family for electronic music fans all around the Northeast. Some fans travel hours to be there every week, not necessarily for the headliners, but for the family and the vibes that inhabit that space. Subset has also been an integral member of the Holy Ship! community known as Shipfam. For years, he has thrown countless preparties, afterparties, renegade sets, and meetups. In 2015, HARD recognized his aptitude for curation and event planning, and tapped him to curate his own stage at all Holy Ship! official preparties. In 2016, HARD recognized the demand that he had built over the last four years, and gave him sets on both Holy Ships. As his reach expands, Subset is seeking to use his platform to continue and expand his curation, launching a monthly livestream series based out of TPA Studios in Manhattan as well as collaborating on new monthly parties around the US. Subset is also diving into the studio on the heels of his wildly successful collaborative remix of Destructo & Bot's SHIPFAM anthem. Expect more projects and a lot more new music in 2016! Hi! Thanks for listening :) This is the recording of my third of three sets aboard HARD's HOLY SHIP! earlier this year. I've enjoyed listening back to these so I figured that I should release them publicly. My set start times were a bit earlier, so as you'll see, I played fairly dark & groovy for the most part. Feel free to contact me at any of the links listed below to let me know what you think :) -CG CameronGraham.me facebook.com/CameronGrahamMusic twitter.com/_CameronGraham instagram.com/_CameronGraham beatport.com/CameronGraham contact@CameronGraham.me
This month we’re excited to showcase Dischetto, our guest at this Saturday’s Subdrive party, resident of NYC’s Webster Hall Saturdays: GOTHAM, and @nesthq ’s resident head of techno. Her artist name, Dischetto, is a portmanteau of ‘dischetto’ and ‘tech’, resulting in the name: Dischetto-tech (pronounced: dis-ketto-tek), an homage to techno’s early roots in Detroit and Chicago ghetto-tech. With strong roots in and inspiration from classic electronica a la Kraftwerk, Nitzer Ebb, Depeche Mode, and Dopplereffekt, she specializes in all things electro, techno, and EBM. Her skills as a selector and curator have seen her play gigs from LA, NYC, Holy Ship in Miami as well as playing alongside names such as Boys Noize, Zombie Nation, Mija, Tchami, Moon Boots, and Bixel Boys. Her Subdrive podcast showcases her range in taste and style from straight banging techno, funky house, wobbly acid basslines, and more. Episode 5. Mike and Tim take turns telling road stories, Holy Ship! and the ultimate shame story.
Rob and Seth get a lesson on many kinds of music from Britain to San Francisco in the 60s, 70s and 80s from the legendary Pete Sears. Sears tells stories from throughout the first half of his career - from his early days with the rockabilly group The Spitfires up until he became one of the four finalists to replace Brent Mydland in The Grateful Dead. Hear about his days splitting time between working on seminal Rod Stewart records in England and discovering the world of San Francisco Bay Area music. His work with the brilliant-yet-volatile Paul Kantner and Grace Slick is explored. We hear his account of an infamous cancellation, and the ensuing chaos at the 1978 Lorelei Festival during which Pete's treasured bass ("Dragon," a sibling of sorts, of Garcia's iconic "Tiger" guitar), was among the equipment destroyed or stolen by the crowd - although Sears' bass DID survive, and would be returned to his some three and a half decades later. Time did not permit for his more recent years to be discussed much, so he will have to return to the show sometime. Episode also includes Seth's updates from his work on the high seas with Holy Ship and Rob's reports on his experiences at Atlanta's "Holiday Hootenanny" and the Umphrey's McGee New Year's run in Chicago. Agata Alexander is a director and editor best known for her unique music videos and music festival recaps. She has an ongoing relationship with HARD festivals and events which allows her to take the genre in new, creatively insane and hilarious directions. A genre often known for music heavy montages, Agata writes her own skits bringing a short film/narrative style that is simply unique to her. Utilizing Hollywood cinematographers, her approach and overall production quality level far surpass anyone else in the scene. In addition to these short film recaps, Agata utilizes her connections in the EDM world by directing music videos for the heavy hitters; most notably Dillon Francis, Bloody Beetroots and Destructo. I first met Agata working for her as a cinematographer at one of HARD’s events Holy Ship, a music festival that takes place on a cruise ship in the Caribbean. It is a fitting place to begin a professional relationship, I assure you. Agata’s charisma and trust stand out as she gives freedom to her DPs but instills a distinct aesthetic within the crew; one focused on beauty with a hint of debauchery. Whether she likes it or not, her approach and style raises eyebrows both for the concepts on display as well as the fact that they are coming from a female. Instinctive or carefully calculated, Agata cannot shy away from the reality that her work sparks conversation about feminism, misogyny, chauvinism and the male/female gaze.
