Both songs adorned their debut Rituals EP in 2021. They inspired tastemaker praise with “Supernatural.” Of the latter, The Line of Best Fit urged, “think Panic! at the Disco meets Michael Jackson's ‘Thriller' – it's fun, funky and spooky,” and WONDERLAND. attested, “the L.A.-based duo are redefining pop one theatrical rock melody at a time.” Carrying this momentum into 2022, “Young Beast” generated 1.7 million Spotify streams, and they teamed up with Punctual for the fan favorite “Castles.” In the end, World's First Cinema present an escape worthy of the big screen, and you'll never want the credits to roll.www.caughtonthemike.com

We had the pleasure of interviewing CLAY over Zoom video!Alt-pop artist CLAY (she/they) has released her new single and music video “Fade Away.” Written after a break-up, the restorative track speaks on trusting time to absorb the memories of a former lover, alleviating the emotional stress that comes with the process. Using nature as the antidote to her broken heart, the visual sees CLAY in a getaway car as she drives to the beach to release her emotions and commit to herself again. On the release, CLAY shares, “Just like the accompanying video, this song is meant to be played full blast in the car on a sunny afternoon when you finally are ready to move on. In this song, I am letting love fade into the sky, into the ocean, into the elements of nature that I have always trusted wholeheartedly. Nature, the god I worship, whose feet I bow to. We had the pleasure of interviewing Caroline Romano over Zoom video!Nashville-based alt-pop sensation Caroline Romano returns with her new single, "girl in a china shop," out on all streaming platforms now.“girl in a china shop” is an emotional rollercoaster of a song. Caroline juxtaposes the song's explosive, untempered chorus with stripped-back, reflective verses. It's a delicate balancing act that only an artist as meticulous as Caroline can pull off.“I often feel like I break everything I touch. I've come to view myself as one major juxtaposition,” says Caroline. “One thing I've learned is that as life moves on, things get broken in the process. Whether it's relationships, or my own heart, I've come to realize that it's all too easy to shatter either one by my own hand. At times it's left me feeling uncomfortable in my own skin and with my own footing. ‘girl in a china shop is my attempt at acknowledging that, in a way that summarizes the chaotic feeling that is navigating myself and other's emotions.”At just 22-years-old, the Nashville-based singer and songwriter has repeatedly demonstrated her ability to create anthems that capture the highs and lows of young adulthood. We had the pleasure of interviewing Wowashwow over Zoom video!Rising hip-hop artist and female powerhouse, Wowashwow, has released her sophomore album, The Algorithm. This body of work is a testament to Wowashwow's ability to blend her punk rock heritage, eccentric indie hip-hop vibes, freestyle rap finesse, and a fearless approach to "obliterating the pop formula." The result is a genre-fluid experience that defies categorization. Produced by Sam J Garfield, The Algorithm challenges the premeditated and quantified nature of algorithms that govern online society and social media-crazed humankind, and it seeks to shatter the rules and bring back the magic and essence of art, music, and creativity. With the visual surrealism of Missy Elliot, the untamable energy of Tina Turner meets Mick Jagger, and the genre-fluidity reminiscent of Radiohead; our South Jersey/Philly raised visionary is presenting a body of work so profoundly groundbreaking, that it is fragmenting the current set of rules and obliterating the mundane nature of it all. The Algorithm loosely tells the story of a character from another dimension visiting planet Earth, providing a unique perspective on their experience navigating between worlds. It's a manifesto of authenticity and empathy, reminding us that we are all aliens in a world controlled by the algorithm. The question arises: Who will be the first to crack the code?MORE INFO: At age six, Wowashwow was writing her first original songs which quickly led to an early career as the lead guitarist and singer of punk rock band, “Rise from Ashes.” This newfound fame evolved into a tour where she opened for The Ramones' drummer, Marky Ramone, and recorded her first album under the direction of the iconic rock legend, Steve Albini. At age 18, Wowashwow moved to NYC and discovered the underground hip hop and ballroom scene, heavily influencing her approach to songwriting, stage performance and overall lifestyle. Now hailing from Los Angeles, she's played over 15 shows in two years, opened for Snoop Dog and Travis Barker, appeared at the Soul Train Awards 2022, charted #115 on the Hot300 List and has been featured in Earmilk, iHeart Radio's Arena Podcast, and has been on regular radio rotation on 101.5 FM (Los Angeles). On top of releasing her own music, Wowashwow hopped onto Love Bailey's track “Hornatia” late last year, with PAPER Magazine referring to her vocals as “commanding” and “hypnotic.” Following its release, “Hornatia” was an official selection short for the Cannes Film Festival. Pam Ross has created a style of music all her own. She blends her influences of rock, americana, and country into something fans are calling Pam Music. Pam was born in Pittsburgh, PA but lived most of her life in Houston, TX where she launched her music career. She first exposed the world to her originalsongs through open mic venues. After quickly gaining a reputation as an energic performer and soulful songwriter, Pam began touring throughout Texas.Pam later moved to Nashville and became recognized as one of the up-and-coming songwriters to watch. She performed numerous times at the renowned BlueBird Cafe and other local clubs in the Nashville area. Roger Sovine, then A&R president of BMI, took an interest in her career and began booking her inBMI showcases. Her lucky break came when she met with country songwriting legend and senior director of A&R at Mercury Records, Gary Harrison. He wasimpressed with Pam's songwriting and vocal power and offered her a record deal. While Gary may have been impressed with Pam's music, her americana style didn't really fit into country music. She was told they could change her musicto make it fit into the country genre of the day. Pam chose to decline the offer. She later said, “It would have been living a lie. I have a lot ofrespect for country music and changing who I am just to become famous wasn't the right thing to do. You have to be true to yourself and your music. Walkingaway was heartbreaking but ultimately the right thing to do at the time. Ironically, as time has passed and country music has changed, a lot of my songsnow fit into the genre and I would definitely accept a record deal in Nashville.” Pam moved to Fuquay Varina, NC in June of 2020 during the pandemic. In June 2022, she gathered up some incredible musicians and began recording ten songsat Goodluck Studio in Chapel Hill. Her album, When Therapy Fails, was released in November of 2022. The video for her first single, Fire In the Hole, has received multiple music video awards. In April, 2023 she signed on with MTS Artist Management, Promotions,& Records. Her fourth single, Falling Off the Merry Go Round, debuted at #18 on the UK iTunes / iChart and hit # 15 on the Mainstream Indie Chart. Beloware just a few of the reviews Pam has been receiving about her music.Iggy Magazine called her “…gifted…one of the most impressive artists we know.” Sarah Wagner of Earmilk wrote, “Ross' distinctive vocal style has often been compared to the likes of Adele, Amy Winehouse, and Etta James, giving hersongs an emotional depth and raw vulnerability that resonates with listeners.”"Music has the power to transcend time, resonate with our emotions, and spark conversations on pressing social issues. Few artists have the ability towield that power in a profound and impactful manner like Pam Ross.” Skope Magazine.www.pamrossmusic.com
On this episode of Headliners, Greg is joined by AIRPORTS!!!ABOUT AIRPORTS:On a unique path to carve his own sound and legacy - Brisbane based singer, writer and Platinum producer Aaron Lee, aka AIRPORTS, takes an innovative approach to his music. Combining punk with drum n bass & EDM, he creates a sound which shimmers with hifi sonics and pop sensibilities, giving listeners something that they won't have heard before.Without skimping on relatable and well-crafted lyricism, this Australian one man army takes listeners on a journey into his own self-awareness, overcoming battles such as loss and life threatening illnesses, forming deeper connections with his fans. His latest single “NEED U HERE” demonstrates the songwriters desire to speak about raw, real and personal experiences. Touching on loss and everything that comes with it, the emotion-fueled track covers loss of a loved one, as well as loss of true self and identity, allowing listeners to connect with his lyrics on a multitude of levels. “NEED U HERE” is the perfect example of the artist tastefully blending two sonic worlds. Aaron shares, “Musically, I've always loved bands like Pendulum and how they blended rock with drum n bass. I'm more of a pop punk singer and have wanted to play with the idea of that over drum n bass in a similar but fresh vein.” Garnering acclaim from tastemaker media outlets such as Wonderland, Popdust, Earmilk, Live Nation's Ones To Watch and Culture Collide, as well as spins from leading radio stations including George FM, ZM, Triple J & Kiiss FM, AIRPORTS exclusive and unparalleled sound is proving to be something that everyone wants to be a part of. We had the pleasure of interviewing BOY2K over Zoom video!Just in time for Pride Month, celebrated electro pop duo BOY2K releases their revelatory debut EP. Combining the groove of modern dance music with the irresistible songcraft of acts like Sofi Tukker, PNAU, Empire of The Sun, Scissor Sisters and AR/CO, Y2K Is Dead is both a confetti-gun call-to-arms and a celebration of the radical and connective power of dance music.BOY2K's mission is to make “Music For The People,” that is, music that celebrates the power of community. A community built in mutual support, love, acceptance and music that begs the listener to get up and move! The members of BOY2K has been noted as an “artist to watch” by such publications as Billboard, Earmilk, Gaytimes, NYLON, and OUT! Magazine have been featured on tracks with global dance acts including Adventure Club and BLEM. Together, the duo combines years of experience and diverse perspectives that make for an electrifying sound. In addition to their upcoming debut release, BOY2K is diving headfirst into the Web3 space and are currently collaborating with several outlets to develop next level projects in the NFT music space.“‘Y2K Is Dead' is something of a memoir of our new best friend-ship. A collection of sonic ideas that have inspired us during this first year together as a "boy band." We are queer guys who laugh at everything together, love warehouse parties, techno sunrises and who value being honest about our feelings and encouraging each other (and our community) to think critically about the world. We hope that people see the humor of our friendship, as well as the real inspiration that we get from working together. It's also amazing that at this stage, we've been able to share that inspiration and ethos with so many like-minded artists, both on the music (Tom Ferry, Conor James) and visuals (Lisa TV, Pedro Lollett). Building community is the purpose of our music and we're grateful that EP has already done that for us in spades!' -BOY2KWe want to hear from you! A weekly magazine-style radio show featuring the voices and stories of Asians and Pacific Islanders from all corners of our community. The show is produced by a collective of media makers, deejays, and activists. SURRIJA Our guest tonight is no stranger to your ears. She is most recently known for being the voice of Opera Evelyn in the song “Opera Fight” in Everything Everywhere All at Once that premiered in 2022. Tonight we're talking about music, diving deep and doing the work, and everything Surrija. SURRIJA (self-titled album) is an electro art pop rebirth that plays with asymmetry, textures, glitch, electronic treatment of intense classical training, and holding complex emotions in one place. The album features drummer Matt Chamberlain (David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Fiona Apple, Sean Watkins, Tori Amos, Perfume Genius), co-produced by Surrija, Sophocles, and Maxwell Gualtieri. After a break from music, she spent four years developing this record and wanted to make music that more closely reflected her feral tendencies. The result is unhinged and off-kilter. Earmilk claims “is simply on a different wavelength … chilling and seductive..”. Classical piano training, degree in choral conducting, singer-songwriter/folk roots, and theatre work all made for a unique sum in this album. “I'm made of a lot of genres and it was always audible. In the end I still think I'm best at putting my hands on the instrument, being tactile, hearing organics. Electronic experimentations of this landed me squarely in this new sound.” Surrija is about finding voice and is a strong genre pivot from her previous songwriter roots. We had the pleasure of interviewing The Moss over Zoom video! The Moss has quickly earned a rapturous fanbase with their euphoric live show and the recent release of their Insomnia EP on S-Curve / Hollywood Records. Earning acclaim from Under The Radar, The Alternative, LADYGUNN, Earmilk, Atwood, Ones To Watch and much more, the band just wrapped up a nearly sold out western U.S. headline tour.Hailed for bringing their youthful exuberance and alternative-rock swagger to the studio and the stage, EP title track “Insomnia” has become a breakout single for the band following major support from key Alternative radio outlets which has led to their first Alternative radio chart debut. The song has just cracked the Alternative Radio Top 20 at #18 with over 7M streams and has landed on many new playlists including Spotify (ALT NOW), Apple (ALT CTRL) + Amazon Music (Alternative Hits). “Insomnia is a bittersweet song about passing the point in a relationship where you can't sleep at night when you are away from them,” says frontman Tyke James.Originating on the shores of Oahu as teenage buddies, Tyke James (vocals/guitar) and Addison Sharp (guitar) traded in beaches for the Great Salt Lake joining forces with Willie Fowler (drums) Caiden Jackson (bass) to form The Moss. The band's blazing success has landed them on a number of festivals this past year including Life Is Beautiful and The Festival at Sandpoint as well as landing on Pandora's Artists to Watch in 2023. Their unique blend of indie surf-pop, grunge-rock and '60s-blues quickly caught on as the band actively curated a community of inclusivity and environmentalism. No matter how listeners choose to interact with The Moss's music, the band just hopes they feel something. It's that kinetic relationship between band and audience that makes their live performances – including a pitch-perfect recent set for Audiotree – so compelling. “No matter what we do, we want to make sure the songs are fun to play live,” says Fowler. “We pride ourselves on being a band people want to see live.”We want to hear from you! Drake, which received platinum awards worldwide, reaching the #1 spot in over 70 countries on iTunes and Shazam and amassing over 1 billion streams. Danelle Sandoval's new musical chapter begins with her upcoming single "Cold" which is her most vulnerable to date. She confides, "I've always been curious about how relationships can just flip a switch and how intimacy can be so difficult for everyone, when most of us just wanna feel close to each other. I've definitely been on both sides of a relationship where I was either the one being cold or my partner was. This song represents the latter."Danelle Sandoval is a Filipino-American artist based in Los Angeles, CA. After posting a YouTube cover of “Tuesday” by ILoveMakonnen ft. Drake, the song was remixed and went on to receive platinum awards worldwide while reaching the #1 spot in over 70 countries on iTunes and Shazam. The viral hit has amassed over 1 billion streams online. We had the pleasure of interviewing Devon Cole Zoom video!Toronto-based alt-pop singer and songwriter Devon Cole is back with her new single, “Call U After Rehab,” out now on Arista Records.Following her hit singles like “W.I.T.C.H.” and “Hey Cowboy,” “Call U After Rehab” exemplifies Devon's softer side. “'Call U After Rehab' is my most vulnerable release yet,” says Devon. “It's a love song about pausing a relationship in order to take care of myself. I was putting off my issues for a while and finding any way to justify my bad habits. Deciding to say goodbye to my closest comforts, to give myself the space and time to heal, felt like ripping off a bandaid that had been there for ages. And this release kind of feels the same, in some ways. I hope people can relate by interpreting the rehab idea however they want to."Catchily packaging social truths in repeat worthy pop bops, 24-year-old Devon Cole has quietly emerged as an enigmatic and engaging force to be reckoned with over the past year. Her buzzing smash “W.I.T.C.H.” (Woman in Total Control of Herself) has eclipsed 70 million streams and counting. Following this success, she maintained her momentum with the endlessly catchy sex-positive anthem “Hey Cowboy.” Since signing to Arista Records in 2022, Devon has reached the precipice of a major breakthrough. She's already amassed millions of streams across her repertoire, received critical acclaim from tastemakers Billboard, BUSTLE and EARMILK, and recently nabbed a 2023 Juno Award nomination for ‘Breakthrough Artist of the Year' and a 2023 Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Award nomination for Favorite Breakout Artist. At age six, my guest Wowashwow was writing her first original songs which led to an early career as the lead guitarist and singer of a punk rock band. This led to a tour where she opened for The Ramones' drummer, Marky Ramone, and recorded her first album under the direction of punk rock icon, Steve Albini. At age 18, Wowashwow moved to NYC and discovered the underground hip-hop and ballroom scene. This would heavily influence her approach to songwriting, stage performance, and overall lifestyle. An activist in the Cannabis industry, she has been breaking the stigma of cannabis consumption, promoting her vision through music, social media, and popular podcasts including the OG Podcast, Blunt Blowin' Mama, and now The Unstarving Musician. Now based in Los Angeles, she's opened for Snoop Dog and Travis Barker, appeared at the Soul Train Awards 2022, charted #115 on the Hot300 List, and has been featured in SXSW Pop, Earmilk, Divine Magazine, Shoutout Atlanta, Artist on the Rise, Upcoming 100, Rap Fiesta, and on Dash Radio for We Found New Music. In this conversation we talk about the origins of the name Wowashwow, the humor in her music, her latest single Class Enrollment and forthcoming album The Algorithm, effects of social algorithms on indie music artists, self-improvement through self-competition, transitioning from punk to hip hop, vulnerability and connecting with her audience, cannabis advocacy, and fashion inspirations Speaking with her was a delight and a lot of fun. We had the pleasure of interviewing XTIE over Zoom video! The vulnerability XTIE showcases through her songwriting on “Skin” emulates a message worth embracing. ““Skin” is a very important song that contributes to my artistic journey, and because of that I've chosen to partner with a Nonprofit [Body Banter] to further bring out the social initiative. In the past, I've never shown my skin condition in interviews, but I've recently freed myself from my body image issues after being mocked about my skin condition and looking “underweight” during my teenage years. The production of “Skin” explores very relevant and important topics for today's young people: body image disorders, the link between social media and body image, as well as physical and mental health. XTIE's high register resounds on a confessional bridge before the hook's affirmation; “Fighting all of my insecurities. Stop judging me by looking at my skin. I just wanna lift up my chin. Telling me there's a world to win.”Through the power of performing arts, XTIE and Emily have incorporated their own experiences of having body image issues into this video, since it's a very unique perspective that can truly resonate with. This is showcased through the choreography style; using moves to emulate things like having habits affecting body language, squinting in the mirror when trying on clothes to "block out" eczema, excessive picking, etc.Hailing from Hong Kong, XTIE is an independent artist that self-produces, writes, arranges, and performs her own songs. It is a pleasure to welcome singer-songwriter Jane. to The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast as the third guest of 2023! Paraj Jain, the writer, producer, and singer behind Jane., was raised between India and the United States to an Indian father and a half-Black mother. The multiracial artist grew up bouncing between homes, unable to see himself reflected in media and unsure where he fits in. Now, through the latest iteration of his music project, Jane., a play on his last name, the musician is ready to introduce himself as he fully embraces his own identity, unpacking his lived experiences and further establishing his musical vision leading with honesty and spiritually, meeting himself exactly where he is. Jane.'s debut LP, What a Wonderful Time To Be Barely Alive, arrived in 2021 and is a project that he describes as “made emotionally and almost physically in the clouds, and free from everything, unbound to anything.” The album caught the attention of several tastemakers, including American Pancake, EARMILK, and Mundane Magazine, who all praised it. Spotify also placed the LP on its Fresh Finds Indie Playlist. Last year, he joined the indie pop duo EXES on tour, followed by a string of dates supporting indie pop superstar Suki Waterhouse. We had the pleasure of interviewing Jessica Lowndes over Zoom video!Canadian multi-hyphenate and CW 90210 star Jessica Lowndes has released her visual album, “ELEMENTAL.” Using the four basic elements of nature—earth, water, air, and fire— Jessica explores the journey of love, loss, redemption and self-forgiveness, in this spicy back-and-forth tale. The narrative is told via 7 chapters and is her directorial debut.Jessica has always created her own path with her ground-breaking acting, captivating sounds, and songwriting talents. She is an internationally renowned music, TV, and film star. With everything shut down, there was no better time to finish the visual LP "ELEMENTAL," which the multihyphenate started working on during the pandemic. The 30-minute visual album tells Jessica's vivacious tale via 7 chapters. She uses the four basic elements of nature—earth, water, air, and fire—to represent the many emotions in the stories she recounts. As she explores the journey of love, loss, redemption, and self-forgiveness, Jessica's production has developed into a spicey back-and-forth. Jessica uses her considerable storytelling abilities to sort through the weight of searching for love, romantic uncertainty and rediscovering self, throughout the entire project. In the first single from the album, Jessica is a wanderer looking for love in "Hunter," and she follows the path of the celestial bodies to guide her on the journey while holding onto hope. She mentions someone warning her about who she gives her heart to, and now she is in love with a man she describes as a thief in the night, and the singer is being hunted by her lover. In the second single, the element of earth is highlighted in "Bitter End" because we see her going through an earthquake in her relationship. The third single, "Lost Love," Jessica expresses her deep feelings for a man she now refers to as "her one and only." She is torn between whether she is truly in love with this man and whether they are reuniting due to loneliness. In "Chasing Ghosts," Lowndes explores a haunting melody, dark and moody cinematic production, and leans into her iconic climactic builds. Charging with electricity, "Chasing Ghosts" is musical lightning in a bottle. The song features vibrant synths, quick drum lines, and rich bass. Her singles released in 2022 have been featured by The Hype Magazine, EARMILK, EXTRA, Ok Magazine, E! Online, Us Weekly and KTLA-TV in Los Angeles. We want to hear from you! Creative outputs, Putting music together through trial and error, and a necessary departure. Seth Applebaum (Ghost Funk Orchestra) “Ghost Funk Orchestra is the brainchild of composer/multi-instrumentalist Seth Applebaum. What started as a one-man recording project has now evolved into a 10-piece powerhouse live band. It's a sonic kaleidoscope that defies genre specification, but draws heavy influence from the worlds of soul, psych rock, salsa, and beyond. Their unique blend of genres has attracted praise from the likes of Bandcamp, KUTX, Brooklyn Vegan, Earmilk, and more. Local NY blog Post-Trash described their sound as a ‘psych odyssey of traditional sounds delivered in a non-traditional fashion.' Bandcamp's Editorial Director J. Edward Keyes praised the band's ability to ‘leave no funk-adjacent genre unexplored.' Now, coming off of their highly regarded 2019 release ‘A Song For Paul,' GFO is hard at work preparing their follow-up LP, to be released in fall 2020 on Karma Chief.” Excerpt from https://www.coleminerecords.com/collections/ghost-funk-orchestra Ghost Funk Orchestra: Bandcamp: https://ghostfunkorchestra.bandcamp.com Instagram: @ghostfunkorchestra Website: https://www.ghostfunkorchestra.com Merch: https://ghostfunkorchestra.bandcamp.com/merch Records: https://www.coleminerecords.com/collections/ghost-funk-orchestra The Vineyard: Instagram: @thevineyardpodcast Website: https://www.thevineyardpodcast.com Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSn17dSz8kST_j_EH00O4MQ/videos
In the season premiere Greg talks life, love, the universe, and all things music with the BI-con and alt pop princess BEXX!!!bexx is a seriously exciting new talent in the UK pop scene. Her eclectic, euphoric alt-pop sound unabashedly draws from influences within 80's synth-pop, pop-punk, classic rock, and current artists like Rina Sawayama and Lady Gaga. Her latest single “Prettier” (out September 2) is a furious emotional gut punch, exploring self-hatred, body image, and objectification.bexx says: “I wrote Prettier from a place of deep sadness and deep anger. It is my furious rebuttal to everyone who has made me feel less than because of the way I look - and writing it was deeply cathartic. I want Prettier to be an anthem for anyone who has had enough of feeling like they don't measure up to society's narrow standard of beauty.”In a radical departure from previous releases, Prettier sees bexx explores elements of punk rock and hyperpop whilst still embracing her alt-pop sensibilites. With instrumentation that sounds just as furious as the lyrics, Prettier is inspired by classic bands like AC/DC and Motorhead as well as current heavy artists like Cassyette, Nova Twins and pop acts like Gaga and Rina Sawayama. The release is accompanied by a remix (out Sep 14) from rising hyperpop artist and producer Tobre, who brings a fresh dose of unhinged ferocity to his take on Prettier. Tobre says: “Much of my production is inspired by the abrasive and energising sounds of melodic punk rock and metal, so I wanted to play with that to take the ferocity and chaos of Prettier to another level. The remix is a blend of my usual take on hyperpop production and sound design, mixed with distorted guitars and real drum samples.”bexx will also host a launch party for Prettier at iconic London LGBTQ+ venue The Glory on September 1. This will see the premiere of the new track, plus support from exciting new queer artists. Genre-bending pop-rock artist FEAR OF MARKO and bubblegum pop atist Tobre, who has also remixed Prettier, will both perform on the night. In 2022, bexx has headlined Nottinghamshire Pride and supported the likes of Fickle Friends and Deco on tour. With support from Wonderland, Earmilk, BBC Introducing and Rolling Stone, bexx is rapidly headed towards an exciting future, and it's one you'll want to be a part of.bexx on InstagramTwitterFacebookTikTokYouTubeSUPPORT THIS SHOW

We had the pleasure of interviewing Bestfriend over Zoom video!Canadian bedroom pop duo Bestfriend are back. After their wildly successful EP, places i've lived, the duo announce a sister EP, places i've left, and share the lead single "Someplace Else," a dreamy bedroom pop bop. Nostalgic, romantic, and sugary sweet, "Someplace Else" is all about crushing on someone, and frankly, "It might be the most purely happy song we have ever written, really," the band notes. Leading listeners into a dreamy soundscape of lush, atmospheric synths and layers upon layers of rich harmonies, Bestfriend's latest single is the perfect prologue to their forthcoming EP, due out this summer. Written and produced entirely by the duo and mixed by Grammy-nominated Travis Ference (Ariana Grande, Tori Kelly, Imagine Dragons), places i've left leaves us where their debut EP places i've lived left us: lovestruck, yearning, and filled with a sun-drenched, bittersweet nostalgia. Bestfriend's debut EP, places i've lived, came out last October, to reach critical acclaim from Under The Radar, Line of Best Fit, Earmilk, DIVA, and more. A love letter to all of the experiences and people from Bestfriend's young adult lives, places i've lived is heavily inspired by storytelling songwriters like Lorde, The National, Big Thief and Julia Jacklin, with production inspired by Bleachers, FINNEAS, The 1975, Rina Sawayama. Created remotely, with Stacy on the west coast and Kaelan in the east, Stacy would write songs, create rough demos and send them to Kaelan who would then produce it from there, passing it back and forth between each other to add/detract elements. Since its release, duo have been featured on Spotify's Lorem, Bedroom Pop, and my life is a movie playlists, amassing over 1,500,000 streams within the first 4 months of release. We had the pleasure of interviewing Star2 over Zoom video!Star2 is an Asian-American singer, songwriter and rapper who seamlessly blends pop, R&B and hip-hop for an enthralling immersion of sound. Raised in inauspicious circumstances, Star2 takes influence from overcoming his life struggles, creating music that is bold, high-spirited and soulful. "Run Away", Star2's staggering new “conscious rap” release, documents the crushing social and environmental catastrophes that plague our world and consume us with alarm and despair, including the horrific invasion in Ukraine. Woven in his sobering retrospective is his personal sorrow and anguish growing up without a mother and father in a refugee camp in South East Asia – fleeing genocide and ethnic cleansing of his Ka-ren people by the brutal Burmese Army and Myanmar Military Regime. Part religious testimony, part philosopher's insight, Star2 directs us to consider what the rest of the world is facing and how they are suffering – also how people are in misery and anguish because of homelessness, poverty, violence, and war. The video asks everyone to “Pray for peace in our world.” Star2 implores: “pray for my Ka-ren people who continue to experience genocide, for the Ukranian people, and for everyone suffering injustice – pray for peace.” The song was produced by Chico Bennett (Madonna, The Killers, Prince, Lady Gaga) and Star2 has received acclaim from the likes of Allhiphop, Notion, Earmilk and many more.
