Former Penguin Tyler Kennedy joined the show. TK reacted to the news of Sidney Crosby being out for ‘at least' a month as the Penguins pursue a playoff spot. Tyler expects Evgeni Malkin to step up, even at 39-years-old, like he has done in the past without Sid. He thinks Kyle Dubas will be aggressive as the trade deadline approaches. Dubas made another trade TK liked yesterday, moving on from one defenseman to acquire another. Tyler said it's very good that Geno got this time off because he's at the age where that is necessary in the middle of the season. Tyler admitted he would give Jack Hughes a standing ovation tomorrow night if he was at the game. TK told us a wild story about an injury he suffered off-the-ice during his career that he had to slyly lie about.
The big breaking news of the day is Sidney Crosby being out for ‘at least' 4 weeks after the lower-body injury suffered last week in the Olympics. Does this ruin the Penguins' season? Historically, Evgeni Malkin has stepped up big when Crosby has been absent, but can he do that at 39? One of our biggest fans, and a massive Penguins fan, told us he was ‘spiraling' with this news. For as fun as this season has been and as fun as the US winning a gold medal was – was it all worth it? The guys don't think we should just accept the fact that the Olympics could very well cost the Penguins a playoff spot. Was Sidney Crosby really that close to playing in the Gold Medal game? It's Tuesday afternoon, and there's a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio set, which means the boys were back in the studio to recap the week that was. On today's episode, the guys discussed Team Canada vs. Team Czechia, Connor McDavid's success at the games, the State of the Nation survey results, and much more.We kicked off the Tuesday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about the Winter Games and what everyone's biggest takeaway was for Canada. Given that the standard in Canada for hockey is gold or bust, it's hard not to be disappointed with how things ended, especially given how dominant our boys were despite the loss. Either way, any excuses the fellas could come up with were all punctuated with the fact that the team lost the most important game of the tournament.Changing gears, we looked ahead to the Oilers' first game back in their stretch drive and how these three games in California could end up among the most important of the year. Given that these are three Pacific Division opponents, finding ways to get points from those them is crucial for setting them up down the stretch. From there, the boys spoke about Brett Kulak being traded from Pittsburgh to Colorado, and how Kyle Dubas just keeps adding assets to his arsenal for whenever they decide to rebuild. Finally, we wrapped up the episode of ONR with another round of Liam's Tenable game. With none of the other boys coming up with anything new, the guys went for another round of Liam's grouping game. Think you know how all of these topics fit together and where they rank? Props to Liam for coming up with a game, as the usual quizmaster didn't have the time to get one done for today. Did the quizmaster have to step in? Did Baggedmilk get his questions right? You'll have to listen to find out for sure.SHOUTOUT TO OUR SPONSORS!!
On this episode of Canucks Talk with Jamie Dodd and Thomas Drance, Matt Bradley joins to share his experience representing Team Italy at the Olympics and what it meant to compete against hockey's elite. The conversation shifts to Vancouver's mounting injuries, trade value questions, and whether the Canucks can replicate the asset management success of teams like Pittsburgh under Kyle Dubas. Jannik Hansen weighs in on keeping veterans engaged during a rebuild and the long-term consequences if this reset stretches to five years. Plus, the big question: is Elias Pettersson the face of the franchise — or should the Canucks explore trading him for maximum value?
