Are you starting to get excited, Pirates fans? The report from Jeff Passan the other day had us wondering if the Pirates would actually follow up on their lofty off-season expectations. The mood was pretty dire – questioning if it would be any different than the off-season's we are used to. Poni said he has heard it will be the ‘best off-season under Bob Nutting.' Well, we'll see about that. The Fan vs The Fans. Former Penguin Tyler Kennedy joined the show. The guys asked TK why he doesn't go on the Morning Show, but he's present on the others. Tyler said the weirdest guy he played hockey with was Brent Burns – sighting the extensive reptile collection and the quirky things he'd do. How many players are more superstitious than Sidney Crosby? There are reports that Evgeni Malkin will have a sit-down with Kyle Dubas to discuss future options, which could mean more Geno in a Penguins uniform.

Ben Ennis and Brent Gunning open Monday's show by breaking down the Maple Leafs' disappointing loss to the Blackhawks on Saturday night. They highlight their main takeaways from the 3-2 defeat and any possible positives, before speculating about Craig Berube's job security heading into the holidays. They compare the processes of the Brad Treliving and Kyle Dubas eras, assess Joseph Woll's return, consider whether adding Troy Stecher will help, reflect on the David Kämpf move to Vancouver, and discuss whether these changes amount to little more than rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. After the break, they celebrate the Roughriders' Grey Cup win and react to MGK's halftime performance. They then evaluate the Raptors' strong start at three games above .500 and their potential as an Eastern Conference playoff threat. The hour wraps with a look at the possibility of the Chiefs missing the playoffs. The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliates.

This is an interesting time for Kyle Dubas and the Penguins. Kyle Dubas said that the goalies that played best in camp and preseason would be the guys. Sergei Murashov played as the best guy, but was sent to the minors. Joe feels like we've been robbed of seeing him play.

Is Aaron Rodgers already having buyer's remorse about choosing the Steelers? With injuries at QB in both Minnesota and Cincinnati, Rodgers could be stuck with a bad offense. Poni thinks the Week 2 performance and loss, filled with multiple gaffes, could already create some cracks in the armor. Can Mike Tomlin save this thing? HOCKEY TALK! Kyle Dubas responded to the rumors of Sidney Crosby – or his agent – tossing out the idea of a future trade. Dubas said if he placates Crosby right here and now, that doesn't help his team in the future. The guys think Dubas has already tried things ‘Sid's way' and they didn't work, so now they are facing a rebuild. PG columnist Jason Mackey joined the show. Jason feels more confident than ever that the Ben Cherington era will be over in Pittsburgh as the Pirates skid to the finish. What does the future look like for this team? Jason still thinks Paul Skenes wants to win here. Jason doesn't expect the payroll to go much higher in 2026 – maybe around $90M.

It seems like there is a better chance now than ever before than the Penguins could trade Sidney Crosby. This time the messaging is coming from his agent and nothing from a writer or reporter. How would you feel about this? The guys think Crosby has given so much to the Penguins on and off the ice that it should be his prerogative to get moved. What does the future of this team look like with Kyle Dubas in charge? Poni tried to get a big guest on the show. Former Penguin Tyler Kennedy joined the show. Tyler doesn't think Sidney Crosby had any push in his agent mentioning a trade is always on the table. TK said Sid has way too much respect for the city and organization. Tyler thinks it's a scary strategy to rebuild from the studs and he's not sure if that is the smartest move by the Penguins. Chris asked about the relationship Crosby has with Evgeni Malkin and if Geno leaves, could that open up the door for Sid to do the same thing? If the Penguins are way out of the playoff race going into the trade deadline, will a move be made? TK said there is nothing worse than being on a losing team in the NHL.

It's been very quiet with the Penguins. TK thinks Gavin McKenna is "a game changer." But it would be a rough season if the Penguins get rid of Bryan Rust or Rickard Rakell. Kyle Dubas thinks Evgeni Malkin might be the most underrated player in NHL history.

The State of the Penguins. Chris' big question is – how long will the bad times last? The Penguins are the gold-standard franchise in town in the 21st century, with 3 Stanley Cup wins, including the back-to-back run just under a decade ago. For nearly 2 full decades, the Penguins were, at worst, in the mix of things. Chris called the Penguins a ‘blue blood' of the league for the better part of 20 years. Chris described the decent as steady, but silent, including the shakeup in ownership. Chris thinks the initial part of the Kyle Dubas tenure has been disappointing, but he likes the idea of a rebuild and a team loaded with picks. And as long as they have Sidney Crosby, it could expedite that process. What happens if they don't land Gavin McKenna?
NHL analyst Frankie Corrado on Gavin McKenna heading to Penn St., Kyle Dubas' plan for the Penguins this summer, the Leafs will look to improve "in-season" and PTO's.

At least one NFL insider gets the sense TJ Watt will get more money than Myles Garrett. Is that good business by the Steelers? Chris said the idea of ‘keeping up with the Joneses' doesn't apply to the Cleveland Browns. It would be different if Watt helped win a lot of big games, but he has zero playoff wins in his career and he's done very little individually in those games. We got into the debates that have happened between Steelers & Browns fans over their top defensive players. Chris noted he thinks the deal the Browns gave Garrett was a mistake too, but that organization is used to that. We can acknowledge that Watt has been the better player than Garrett, but it doesn't mean you should pay for his future. We dove a little bit more into the TJ Watt contract standoff. NHL reporter Sean Gentille from The Athletic joined the show. The Penguins have picks 11 and 12 in the opening round of the NHL Draft tonight and Sean isn't sure if it's in their best interest to move up. Sean said being in the first 9 picks would be ideal. He mentioned that it could turn into a crapshoot like it normally does. Sean noted that the Islanders are a team to watch tonight. Sean looked at what Kyle Dubas has on his plate heading into the weekend and what type of players the Pens could be looking for. With free agency looming, Dubas has plenty in front of him. We also witnessed Mark Kaboly boot Sean off the air – a first in our history.

Chris thinks it's crazy for any of us in Pittsburgh to be talking about championships right now, even if it's a good radio topic. It's hard enough for us to ask for a playoff win. Chris thinks it's a cruel question to ask people right now. Chris feels like the Penguins are the closest team to actually winning a title. They still have Sidney Crosby and even though it's unknown what we get from Kyle Dubas, there seems to be a plan in place. The economics of baseball really work against the Pirates as well as the poor ownership. Bucco Auction House check-in.
